Awareness of being a Human

The universe arises from a singular, limitless consciousness. From its vibration, light manifests, followed by creation and duality. Humans are gifted with intellect to discern divine qualities from negative ones. True human nature is compassion, mercy, and love. Education begins with parents, imparting spiritual and ethical knowledge now often lost. Yoga is the science to unite the individual soul with the Supreme. The soul carries karma from all actions. To cleanse karma and attain a long, healthy life, follow Ayurveda and a sattvic, vegetarian diet. This is non-violence, the highest principle. Discipline in practice is essential. Yoga balances and harmonizes, leading to spiritual awakening.

"One gram of practice is worth more than a ton of theory."

"Non-violence is the highest principle. If you follow Ahimsa, your spirituality will grow."

Part 1: A Special Evening with Vishwaguru Swāmī Maheśvarānanda Dear friends, I would like to begin by wishing you all a special evening. Before we start, I kindly ask you to turn off your mobile phones, as we have a live stream. Please don’t forget to do so. Thank you very much. When we started the Yoga Expo in Varaždin in 2012—our first festival of healthy living through yoga—we hoped that one day we might host and welcome His Holiness Vishwaguru Swāmī Maheśvarānandajī, the author of the system Yoga in Daily Life. Today, that wish has finally come true, and with great joy we welcome Vishwagurujī here. We invite him to the stage. Welcome! We will welcome Viśvagurujī with a traditional flower offering. I would also like to welcome the esteemed Ambassador of the Republic of India to the Republic of Croatia, His Excellency Sandeep Kumar. I welcome Mahātma Ganeśa, Vivek Purī, the leading figure of Yoga in Daily Life in Croatia. I welcome all of you who have come to Varaždin from cities across Croatia—Zagreb, Karlovac, from the coast—and our guests from Slovenia and Málaga. His Excellency Sandeep Kumar is an honoured and dear guest in our city and county. He is working diligently to bring Croatia and India closer in many ways. Regarding yoga, we have collaborated closely with the Embassy of India in organizing the International Day of Yoga and in organizing this Yoga Expo, which began yesterday. This lecture is the crowning event of the Expo. We now invite His Excellency to address us with a few words. The floor is yours. Ambassador Sandeep Kumar: Good evening. I am very happy to be in Varaždin. I speak a little Croatian, but next time I will speak proper Croatian. The president of Yoga in Daily Life mentioned that I have been working hard to promote the relationship between India and Croatia. But more than me, it is the commitment of all of you, the passion with which you embrace Indian philosophy, the Indian way of life, yoga systems, and Āyurveda, that gives me the courage and passion to work with you to take our relationship forward. Your devotion to accepting and adopting the philosophy of India, the healthy way of life and Āyurveda, gives me the courage to become even more involved. We have been doing many events throughout Croatia, not just in Zagreb, because Croatia is not just Zagreb. Wherever we have been, there has been so much understanding, openness, and acceptance that it makes me feel very humbled. This also reflects the spirit of tolerance, integration, and peaceful coexistence in Croatia. Based on your commitment and the fact that you are the best ambassadors of India in Croatia, I stand here today to express my commitment that I am very willing to take our relationship forward in a more qualitative manner in every possible way. The Embassy is very willing to accept your proposals, to give you full collaboration, and we will definitely show results on the ground. We will listen and accept your proposals, and I am sure that very soon we will have new positive results in the field. Vukovar and India, forward together! Finally, on my behalf and on behalf of all of you, I would like to express our supreme happiness that Viśvagurujī has chosen to be here with us today. We can only grow in his presence, learn from him, and make our consciousness reach the highest levels. A very warm welcome. Thank you very much. Hvala lijepo. Host: Although Vishwagurujī has been a regular guest in Croatia since 1984, this is the first time Varaždin has had the official opportunity to see him in person. I will briefly introduce the portrait of Viśvagurujī, who will, after this lecture, hold a weekend seminar in Rijeka, where we expect several hundred participants from all over Europe. This Croatian tour will conclude with an evening lecture in Zagreb on Sunday. His Holiness Vishwaguru Paramahaṁsarī Swami Maheśvarānanda was born in 1945 in Rajasthan, India. At a very young age, he was initiated into the sannyās order. In 1970, he came to Europe, where he became profoundly aware of the problems of modern Western society. Inspired by this, he began to initiate and develop the holistic system Yoga in Daily Life, now renowned worldwide for changing lives for the better. Vishwagurujī also initiated peace prayers and peace conferences around the world. Interestingly, the first peace prayer was organized and held in Croatia, in Umag. In 2005, we also had the first peace summit in Croatia, in Zagreb. For his humanitarian work, his work for world peace, and his work for environmental protection, he is recognized by state officials, scientists, and religious leaders of all faiths. Vishwagurujī is the spiritual successor of one of the oldest spiritual lineages in India, the Om Śrī Siddha Pīṭh Alagpurījī Paramparā. He holds the titles of Doctor of Science, Professor of Yoga, and the highest spiritual title, Viśvaguru. Vishwagurujī often says that one gram of practice is worth more than a ton of theory. So, if you have not yet started practicing yoga, we believe today’s lecture will be a very good initiative for you to begin, bringing immense joy, personal growth, and spiritual growth. Health. Swāmī Maheśvarānanda: Now you know my whole life story. Simply, you can call me just Swamiji, that’s all. But thank you. At least I remember my birthday. Gagana Sadraśyam, Tasmāsyādi Lakṣyam, Ekam Nityam, Vimalāchalam, Sarvadiśākṣibhūtam, Bhavātītam, Trigunarahitam, Satgurutam Namāmyam, Om Śānti, Śānti,... Ravavatu. Salutation to the Cosmic Light, Lord of our Hearts, Omniscient and omnipresent in His holy presence. Good evening, my dear brothers and sisters. His Excellency, the Ambassador of India—I was surprised that he already speaks the Croatian language. I have been traveling since 1978, but I always have a translator, so I admire our Ambassador very much. He has been promoting the ancient culture of India, its non-duality, yoga, dance, Āyurveda, and spirituality, harmonizing and balancing relations between India and Croatia. I am proud of our ambassador, and you should also be proud to have such a great personality. We respect him and welcome him. Thank you. Dear ones, I am here in this theatre for the first time. I am sitting here, admiring the design of this beautiful hall. So, if the talk is long—how do you call it—if it is boring, then you can look at these designs. This ceiling reminds me that after Self-Realization, when we navigate up to the Brahmalokas, there will be lokas like these. I am very happy to be here on my fourth visit to this city. Thank you. Also, we have among us some dignitaries. This is Mrs. Elizabeth Dolnic, director of the Varaždin County Tourism Board. Dear sister, thank you, welcome. Also, Mrs. Jasna, director of the Croatian National Theatre in the city of Varaždin. There is also Mr. [name not specified]. That’s very important. I welcome him, and I hope he will bring good pictures of all of you, so that Croatians will admire how many people practice yoga in their lives. And then it needs protection, it needs a balance, and that is our dear friend, Rādhā. So we are all in a safe place. And his dear wife, Śraddhā, she is a head organizer. We thank her very much. Yoga in Daily Life in this beautiful city was first introduced by one of our sisters and brothers. The couple is called—what is your name? Tell me, stand up. Thank you, Durgā Purī. So they brought the light of yoga into their lives in this city. Now we have here our dear sister Swāmī Ānandipurī and Mahāmaṇḍaleśvara. This is a very high title in India, according to the Ādiguru Śaṅkarācārya, of the Akhāḍās Mahā Nirvāṇī Akhāḍās. If you know Bhagavān Kapil Muni, he is the Guru, the Satguru of the Mahā Nirvāṇī Akhāḍās. It is Kapil Muni, so from that Akhāḍā he got the title of Mahāmaṇḍaleśvar Swāmī Vivek Purī. Swāmī Vivek Purī, I have known him for decades. He was a student. From the time he met me, it changed his entire feelings and path. Dear ones, there are so many dignitaries sitting here. We call all of us the children of one God, and there are no differences. Titles do not mean anything. In Kali Yuga, we need... Otherwise, God has no title. We don’t say Professor Rāma or Director Kṛṣṇa, or engineer Jesus. No gods have any title. Kṛṣṇa, Hanumān, Rāma, Jesus, etc. A short name is the best name. And for the translator, it’s easier to introduce. So, our title is that we are simply human. There are 8.4 million different creatures created by one creator. And that one is called Swayambhū. Anant, endless, beyond our imagination. We are limited ones, and that one is limitless. Śūnyākāśa, a void space, dark blue, dark nothing, nothing and nothing and nothing. That is where consciousness, the cosmic consciousness, is resting. That is not dormant. Awareness, consciousness, life is always life. But all is just on one level, just one. No movements at that time. Now it is said, which in the Bible also you say, "thou shalt be seen." This word is coming from the Vedas, which is taken in the Bible. Why? Because the Bible is not very late in this yuga. What we are talking about is also from this yuga. All holy scriptures, no matter from which religion, are rooted in one. One seed sprouts and comes out as one sprout. And there are two petals, two leaves, and then come many branches, etc. So, in the Vedas it is said, "Eko’haṁ bahusyāmi"—I am one, now I will multiply. Who is that one? How will he do it? Is it he or she? This is already a complication. Who is God? Male or female? This is already fighting in the house. Husband said, "I am," and wife said, "I am." In spirituality, in divinity, in holiness, there is no duality of genders. There is only one, and that is Ātmā. So, relax. Don’t fight for emancipation. Yes, we are all equal. So, ahaṁ ko bhavasyāmi? I am one, who is that? And that is called the universal, the Swayambhū, who has no father, no mother, no husband, no wife. How is it beginning? The Veda said, "Nāda Rūpa Parabrahma." If you want to know the Supreme One, the Highest One, Brahman, then it’s resonance, the sound: OM. From that resonance, from that vibration, within no time in the whole universe, the endless awakes or manifests the light. And from that light appears Svayambhū, Śiva. Śiva is a Sṛṣṭi Hara, and Śiva is a Saṃhāra Hara. He is the creator, and he is the liberator. He has created, and one day it will all be dissolved. Then begins Brahma, Viṣṇu, etc.—8.4 million different creations, divided into different categories: Jalchar, thalchar, and nabachar—the creatures in the water, on the earth, and in space. As soon as the creation begins, there are two qualities awakening: Devī Śakti and Āsurī Śakti, the divine powers and the satanic power, where begins the life and the death, positive and negative, which are still accompanying us from this all. Everyone has enemies, everyone, because on a cosmic level, the parliament, the cosmic parliament, they begin to create something. So it is said, "Where should we send this vibration, this soul—not the ātmā, the soul?" How will they again come to that eternal one? Direct them to one beautiful place, what we call the earth, which is called the mortal world. So what will happen? They will come, and they will come. They will come, and they will come. It was a long, many, many years or centuries, then said Agnidev, all five elements: the sky or the ether, the earth, the fire, the water, and air. So, the Agni, the fire, is manifesting at the point of our navel. Fire. What does that mean? That I will awake the hunger. So, when we are hungry, it’s burning in the stomach. We need something to calm down that fire. So, the question came. Someone who was observing very carefully, a very wise one, was thinking to put the questions. Like His Excellency, you know, he’s noticing everything. What will they eat? Otherwise, all are coming and lying like stones and rocks. So Agni Devī, the fire. Fire wants to have something to eat. Jīva jīva bhakṣate, life will eat life. Animals will eat animals. Then Dharmarāja said, the king of justice, "That’s not good. Whoever will eat another creature will have such karma, so he will not come out of the cycle of birth and death." 8.4 million, this circle which is going round and round. There they put the law of karma. Karma means action. Where there is action, there will be reaction. So how will they come again to that Supreme? Then they create one more, and that’s called human. Human: God gave the most powerful tool to the human, and that’s intellect. With this intellect the human begins to understand what is the pain, what is the coming and going, etc. Now, God gave us freedom. Do what you want. But you should know that you have to pay back the karmas. For animals, no. The animal life is just to come through, suffer those karmas, those sins. But humans can come out of the cycle of death and birth. Humans are born as protectors, not as distractors. In the morning, when you wake up, first, what should you think, as we, as humans? If you believe, then God, or some other deity, or your guru, or your parents, or your husband or wife, or your dear child. This is the first thought that will keep in your heart, awakening that love. Love nowadays is misunderstood. Everybody says, "I love you, I love you." It has become a rabies. Otherwise, we say love is God and God is love. But not this physical planet. That is divine thought. That’s God. So in Indian culture, when children wake up, first, they greet the parents, and the parents bless them. They said, "Bless you." But if you said, "Good morning," they will also say, "Good morning." Very rare people will say here, "Bless you, my child." Blessing is the most powerful, powerful energy which you can transfer to others. Bless anyone you can bless through your thinking. Second, awaken your awareness when you wake up: I am a human. Make an experiment. In the morning, when you wake up: I am human. Now, when we become aware as a human, we will not do anything bad. If someone is cruel, we will say, "Oh God, this is not a human." Second, third... Third, what makes me human? Not only the physical body, but our inner qualities: compassion, mercy, kindness, humbleness, love, forgiveness, accepting, understanding. Feeling the sorrows, the pain of others, to protect all. This is a human quality, and what is the devil quality? Jealousy, anger, hate, conflict, etc. That is the Āsurī Śakti. The other is devī śaktis. So that human’s consciousness, the human’s qualities, human’s awareness will develop them towards the higher levels or lower levels, utthāna or patana. Utthāna is the achievement. Patañjali is destruction. Now, how to awake these qualities which make me human, which awaken my human qualities? First, because God gave us that kind of intellect, we should develop it. That knowledge, that education, we can mostly get only in the lap of our parents. The parents who can give us that education, the social behavior, the kindness, the humbleness. When you go to the kindergarten, your children are gone out of your hands. And the school, college, university, etc. This is all for our belly, to earn money and earn food, eating. Of course, we are developing the science, but whatever is developed, you could read all of this in the Vedas or in yogic knowledge. So that education, that is learning from the parents; all your school teachers, they are spiritual. Unfortunately, nowadays in the whole world, the ethical and spiritual education is deleted from the schools and universities, et cetera. The human becomes the enemy of the human, not only the stranger, but also family to family. We become day by day individual. Well, yoga. Yoga can save our life. God can direct our soul towards the Ātmā. The Ātmā is one. Your and my Ātmā are one. The Ātmā is the Supreme. But the mixer of the ātmā and anātmā is the soul. Part 2: The Path of Yoga, Ayurveda, and Ahimsa The soul creates and carries karma. Whatever you eat, drink, speak, or do—all is counted as karma. Whether you believe it or not, your belief does not change the reality. That karma is karma. Action is action. Even breathing in and out is karma. We are here to overcome or cleanse all our karmas, and for that, we have been given the human body. To overcome all karmas, we require a long life. This is a mortal world, yet there are Yogīs and Ṛṣis still living for thousands of years. In our paramparā, Alak Purījī is living; he is from Satya Yuga. His name is the river called the Alaknandā. We will tell you about that next time. So, how does one live long? The first aspect is nourishment: what you eat, what kind of food you consume. We incur karma through that. Jīv, jīv, bhakṣate—living beings eat living beings. Animals must eat animals, but for humans, it is not so. In the Bible, it is written that ill people used to go to Jesus, and he healed them. He said, "You are ill because you don’t eat what you should eat." The grains growing in the field, the bees’ honey, milk, nuts, and fruits which fall from the trees—eat these. That is sāttvic nourishment. We should not even harm or destroy a plant. Swami Vivekānanda, and many other spiritual organizers, have spoken on this. Someone once gave Swami Vivekānanda a garland of beautiful flowers for his neck. He said, "These flowers would be more beautiful on their own plant, and they would last longer. Now you have destroyed them; it is only temporary, and then the flower is finished." This means we should not take flowers from plants. But we have forgotten everything. Nourishment possesses three qualities. This is where Ayurveda comes in. You know Ayurveda: Āyur means life, and Veda means knowledge. The knowledge of life means how to live a healthy and long life, not necessarily a wealthy one. I did not say wealth; wealth came afterward. Now it is all money, money. Health, good health, came first. Someone said health is not everything, but everything is nothing without health. And health is the kind where we are perfectly healthy physically, emotionally, intellectually, socially, and mentally. When it is said what a creature should eat, every animal still keeps its discipline, its principle. All animals living freely in the forest live according to their principle. But there is one—I would not say animal—but humans, who have lost their principles and eat whatever they find. That is why humans are more ill, more unhappy, more fearful, more destructive, and very ill. In ancient times, humans were healthy. There was hardly a hospital. Now we have that science, medicine, to change our diet, yet so many hospitals exist with no empty places. Why are so many people ill? Many, many illnesses. Why? Because the way of living is wrong. One said, "Do we live for eating, or do we eat for living?" We shall eat for living a healthy, happy, and long life. But our condition now is that we live for eating. Many, many diseases arise because this is not nourishment for humans. Āyurveda is from Satya Yuga. God Dhanvantari brought the Amṛta Kalaśa. The time Ayurveda began is now written as maybe 5,000 or 6,000 years ago, but do not limit Ayurveda to 5,000 or 20,000 years. It is from ages. Similarly, when the resonance began in the universe—the vibration, the light—Swayambhu Śiva appeared. At that time, Śiva manifested himself in mudrā, or in the posture of meditation. He remained in meditation for yugas, centuries, until he opened his eyes and looked around. So, yoga—the author of yoga is God Śiva. Śiva gave the science of yoga. It is the science of body, mind, and soul. Through the practice of yoga, it is said, after Patañjali Ṛṣi, yoga begins with discipline. Atha means just now. Do not think, "Tomorrow I will not eat meat," but then you go home and eat, saying you will not eat tomorrow. No, you will never give it up that way. Just now, decide: "I will not eat any creatures because of my food. I do not want to kill anyone." My dear, can you imagine if someone catches your head and cuts your neck? Or someone cuts your hand? Or you are alive and someone puts a knife in your stomach? Or, as if someone puts a hook in your mouth and pulls you up? Pain. You are not dying just once. That animal which is killed is dying every second. And that pain is a curse for us. If we cause anyone pain—physical, emotional, intellectual, or social—then this is a curse automatically. Read carefully the Bhagavad Gītā, read carefully the Bible, read the Upaniṣads, read those holy scriptures of the great saints. It should not happen to anyone like this. Animals will do it, but humans should never do it. Therefore, let us come to the vegetarian diet. You will be less ill, you will have brilliant memory, you will live healthy, you will be happy, and you will have no more sin. Of course, I do not want to force you. It is your choice. But my duty is to tell you what happens to ourselves when we eat meat. Meat was not produced in the supermarket. About ten years ago in Washington D.C., I gave a lecture on how they kill animals and how animals are suffering. Afterwards, one lady stood up crying. She said, "I thought meat is in the supermarket." I said no, it is from a slaughterhouse, and animals are killed. There are so many things you do not know. But if you stand beside and take your own dog or your own cat and kill them—similarly, for any animals—give them freedom. Bless them. Love them. Do not eat them. Feed them. Be free. Yoga has many branches. If you really want to practice yoga, then I am not telling you; Patañjali says discipline. Not practicing tomorrow, the day after tomorrow, and then you forget. You can practice yoga only if you have discipline. Practicing ātā-yogānu-śaṣṇam, yogā-citta-vṛtti-nirodhāḥ. Therefore, the vṛttis, the ways of thinking, we have to control. Then we can practice yoga, or through practicing yoga, we can change our negative thoughts into positive ones. So, first we have to change the way of thinking so we can practice yoga, or by practicing yoga we will change that way of thinking. Patañjali divided yoga into Haṭha yoga, Karma yoga, Bhakti yoga, Rāja yoga, and Jñāna yoga. But all yoga is one. Yoga means joining, union. The entire universe, the space—in this space there are three principles, and that is called yoga. It means balance, harmonizing, and uniting. That union is yoga: the union of the ātmā to Paramātmā, or jīvātmā to ātmā. Otherwise, we live, we will die, again we will come, but we do not know where we will come. This is not a principle of a religion. Dharma and religion are different. Religion is nowadays what we call my religion, your religion, that, this, that. But dharma is only one. And that is said: Dharma rakṣita rakṣitaḥ—if you protect dharma, dharma will protect you. And that is called sanātana dharma. What is sanātana dharma? Let us say one example. Today, a woman becomes pregnant. The embryo develops in her body. That development of the embryo, all organs, all limbs of the body—that which is developing is Sanātana. The seed grows; it becomes a beautiful tree, the leaves, the branches, the blooms, the fruits, all through the four seasons. This is the Sanātana. That is why Bhagavān Kṛṣṇa said, "I dwell in each and every entity’s heart. All creatures are My Ātmā." That is called Sanātana Dharma. So, follow human Dharma. Follow animal Dharma. Fire has fire dharma. If fire does not give heat, we will not call it fire. Nowadays there is an artificial candle with a little bulb, and it is burning, but it is not hot. So it is not real fire. Fire is fire. Water is water. Water has its dharma. Similarly, we humans should know we should eat healthy food. Āyurveda is the first medical system. All allopathic medicine that is developing is from Āyurveda. Āyurveda is the science of our life, to live healthy and happy. So, the first mantra for Āyurveda is: the first wealth is good health. If we are healthy, everything is good. If we are not healthy, we are suffering. Thanks to the Government of India, now they have developed again and brought the system, the message into the world again about Āyurveda. There was a great saint, Maharishi Mahesh Yogī. He sent his disciples around the world and began to bring the system of Āyurveda. And, of course, many great saints came around the world and brought the yoga message. Thanks to the respected Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi—I know him, and from his family side also—he brought this into the United Nations; he cleared the International Day of Yoga. You can imagine, every country in the world said, "Yes, yes, we are for this." All were voting. So again, we see this wave of yoga came into the world. Otherwise, many people, different religious people here, said yoga is a work of the satans. In Croatia, we had a lot of problems. A lot of problems. I am facing a lot of problems. Because of the yoga? Because of the religions? Yoga is not a religion, and all religions are the branches of yoga, because yoga is the first. Even what we call Hinduism was not called that at that time. Christianity, Judaism, Islam—they are all from these last few hundred thousand years. But yoga is the beginning. Āyurveda is sattvic food. Sattva, rajas, and tamas guṇas. Jaisā khāy anveśa Rahiman—what you eat, like that will be your mind. Jaisā kare saṅge veśa lāge raṅg—in which communities or society you are, like that you will have your qualities. If you live with alcoholics, you will also become alcoholic. As you drink water, you will become like water. What kind of liquid you drink, like that you speak. Āyurveda will save our life and keep us healthy. Thanks to India, again they are producing a huge amount of quality herbs, which had already disappeared. In Croatia, there are a lot of herbs, valuable herbs you have here, but we do not know the knowledge. I think we should bring some Āyurvedic Vaidyas here to Croatia. Or I will ask His Excellency to send some of our students to India to study Āyurveda. We have universities, and he knows better than I. He can give you support, instructions, ideas. That will be a great thing for Croatia, so they can also utilize the herbs growing in Croatia. I will take the responsibility of yoga, and His Excellency will take the responsibility of the Āyurveda. Of course, he has many other duties. My dear, nourishment is Āyurveda. Change your diet. Just eat for living. Reduce your diet and come to the vegetarian. Practice, practice, practice. Āsanas, prāṇāyāmas, concentration, and meditation are the way. But meditation without mantra is a statue without a soul. Therefore, meditation with mantra will lead our consciousness in the right direction. Āyurveda is the path for us now. Āyurveda is the solution, and yoga will clean our karmas and lead us to consciousness, to God. But begin with practicing. Each posture, practice consciously. Do not torture your body. Every movement awakens some energy in our chakras. Not only these eight chakras from Mūlādhāra to Sahasrāra, but we have many, many chakras according to yogic anatomy. We have seventy-two thousand nerves in our body, and where each nerve changes or branches, there are chakras. If we write the letter Y, then there are one, two, three, four, five, six, and seven chakras on it. The bottom of the Y, then the line we are putting—these are two. Then where there is a branch, there is three, four, and on the top, five, six, and seven chakras. Each chakra is activated when we practice proper postures of yoga. That will create good health, concentration, and development towards spirituality. Kundalini and Chakras are not like what the books are writing. Some people think Kundalini awakens and your whole body shakes. If you feel something along your spine, some say it is like ants walking. In that case, I would tell you: put your shirt in the laundry and wash yourself with neem soap. Do you know what neem soap is? Who does not know? Hand up, please. One, two—I am proud of you. Except two, all know what is Nīm soap. Your Excellency, you are giving good health treatment to the Croatians. All know the NIMHO, but they also give you a good economy. Or, if there is something in the spinal column moving, then go to the psychiatry doctor, not to the yogī. Kundalini, when it is awakening, is the awakening of wisdom. That is not Kuṇḍalinī. When Kuṇḍalinī is awakened, it is an awakening of wisdom, an awakening of balance, an awakening of spiritual consciousness. There is no movement in the body. It is not in the physical body; it is in the astral body. So, practicing yoga systematically—we do have many yoga teachers in Croatia, and not only the Yoga in Daily Life teachers, but there are many other teachers also teaching this system. So, where you feel that the teaching is correct... I am not only supporting Yoga in Daily Life, but all yoga is yoga. Yoga in Daily Life means practice every day. This is a scientific system, but other teachings of posture are also correct. In yoga, there is no competition, no challenge; it is not acrobatic. A yoga practitioner must have complete, full dress. Do not practice in your bikini, or do not practice in your little socks, because when you practice āsanas or prāṇāyāmas, you are creating energy in the body. Cotton cloth, or what we call khādī, protects your energy due to that bio-feedback, because that energy actually stays circulating in your body. So, you should have long sleeves and a long shirt. We are not making demonstrations to show a beautiful body. Tell me, which body is not beautiful? Everything is beautiful. Then why do you want to show your body? So we say, yes, every body is a beautiful body. Therefore, follow the yogic principle. Or, go to the Himalayas where it is minus 20–25 degrees, and there you practice energy techniques without dress—no problem. You will become a yogī quickly. It means you will get a new life next life. In the last 46 years I have been here, we have researched that you have to have proper dress made of natural material. We will have in Rijeka, in detail, the diet. There is a principle for humans, and that is called Ahiṃsā Paramodharma. Do you know, Your Excellency? We say in India, Ahiṃsā paramodharma: non-violence is the highest principle. If you follow Ahiṃsā, your spirituality will grow. Ahiṃsā paramodharma. As you said, we had how many years of peace activities? I am happy the United Nations has declared the International Day of Peace. And you know human rights? Eighty percent of human rights are from the Upaniṣads. So it is all coming from yoga, from the ṛṣis. So, chant with me once: Ahiṃsā, Paramo Dharma, Ahiṃsā, Paramo Dharma, Ahiṃsā, Paramo Dharma, Ahiṃsā, Paramo Dharma. Do not harm anyone—physically, mentally, emotionally, socially. Do not harm anyone. That is Gandhiji’s principle: Ahiṃsā Paramo Dharma. So, do not cause pain to anyone. Even Jesus—if he wanted, he could have run away or fought against them. But he accepted, and he said, "Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do." That is it. That was the Ahiṃsā principle. So, Ahiṃsā means non-violence is the highest principle. I wish you all the best, and we will repeat one mantra. You all know it. Who does not know, just hear: Asato mā sat gamaya, tamaso mā jyotir gamaya, mṛtyor mā amṛtaṁ gamaya. Śāntiḥ, śāntiḥ, śāntiḥ. Vipnayan Bhagavān kī jaya, Bhārat Mātā kī jaya, Vipnayan Bhagavān kī jaya.
