Bhajan evening from Vep

Bhajan Sandhyā is the evening of devotional union. Bhajan means to meditate, chant, sing, and adore the Supreme. It is the call to sing the divine glory. Sandhyā means uniting, merging. It is the juncture between night and day, a binding like Rakshabandhan. Evening prayer is also Sandhyā. The great teacher told of a holy one who wakes sleeping swans, transforming crows with So’ham, turning iron to gold. He is the Param Guru. A bhajan arose from deep longing. Its composer was sent away from his Guru. He hid among railway wagons. He prayed just to see the divine form. From that separation, the song was born. Then the call comes: Wake up, brothers! Rise from the sleep of ignorance. Shed attachments and desires, realize the highest knowledge of Gurudev.

“Please give me your darśan; please, just once, let me see your divine appearance. I am longing for it.”

“My brothers, wake up. Wake up from the sleep of your avidyā. Open your eyes. Do not be lazy. Give up your attachment, give up your desires and longings, and understand what Gurudev means — the highest knowledge.”

Filming location: Vép, Hungary

Bhajan: the word means to meditate, chant, sing, and pray. It means to concentrate, adore, and worship Bhagavān or Gurudeva. Therefore, it is a call: bhaj govindam, bhaj govindam, bhaj govindam — Ādi Śaṅkarācārya’s morning prayer. And jan means human. So, bhajan — O human, O people, O bhaktas, sing the glory of the Supreme. Sandhyā means uniting, merging, coming together. It signifies a connection, the juncture between night and day. Morning is also Sandhyā. The dawn rises, and the darkness goes. So, singing the glory of the Supreme, the Gurudeva — one can explain bhajans, but you know many bhajans. Thus, we have Bhajan Sandhyā. And it is said that today is a Bhajan Sandhyā with Bhagavān Rāma and Bhagavān Kṛṣṇa, with Sandhyā, with Gurudev, with all our brothers and sisters. That binding together — Lakṣabandhan — that is also Sandhyā. So let us this evening enjoy the Sandhyā. Prayer is also Sandhyā. Even the animals and the birds sing the glory of God morning and evening. Mahāprabhujī spoke about Śrī Devpurījī, describing his beauty, his purity, his spotlessness. He told how even Mahāprabhujī described how Śrī Devpurījī woke this sleeping swan, transforming him from a crow into a beautiful swan with the mantra of So’ham. He is that paras who changes iron into gold. He is the Param Guru, the highest of the highest. Om Śrī Devīśvara Mahādeva Kī Jai, Śrī Dīp Nārāyaṇa Bhagavān Kī Jai, Śrī Sattva Guru Deva Kī Jai. Brahmānandam Paramasukham Kevalam Jñānamūrti. Ekam Nityam Vimalam Acalam Sarvātītam Sākṣi Bhūtam Sata Gurudāṁ Namāhamyāṁ. Param Guru Swāmījī, Māra Jannamā Sutāryo, Āchā Tuvānī Jagame, Marīharī Purī Jī There is one bhajan; we do not know by whom it was composed. Its writer felt such a deep longing, praying to meet his Gurudev, to see his Gurudev, because he had been sent away from his Guru. He hid himself at the train station behind the wagons. Swamiji said he was praying, “Please give me your darśan; please, just once, let me see your divine appearance. I am longing for it.” Swamiji said that Śrī Ācāramjī hid among the wagons in the railway station and prayed that he might see the form of God. He wrote this bhajan with an intense longing, for he was forbidden to meet his Gurudeva. A viraha, a vāgya, vāgyakozhās, Gurudeva darśanyādi irānt, hogy találkozz Gurudevvel. Śrī Dīp Nārāyaṇa Bhagavān Kīche, Śrī Śrī Devīśvara Mahādeva Kīche, Śrī Svāmī Madhavānandajī Bhagavān Kīche, Śrī Sattva Gurudeva Kīche. Śrī Śrī Devīśvaramadeva Kī Jai. And here our beloved Holy Gurujī, Śrī Svāmī Madhavānandajī, said: “My brothers, my brothers, wake up. Wake up from the sleep of your avidyā. Open your eyes. Do not be lazy. Give up your attachment, give up your desires and longings, and understand what Gurudev means — the highest knowledge.” Śrī Dīp Nārāyaṇa Bhagavān Kī Jai, Śrī Śrī Devīśvarānanda Mahādeva Kī Jai.
