The value of Satsang

The great mantra Hari Om reveals the unity of sound, form, and the divine. The syllable Om contains the three tattvas of Brahmā, Viṣṇu, and Śiva. Viṣṇu resides upon the thousand-headed Śeṣanāga, who supports the earth. From primordial emptiness arose the resonance of Om, from which the deities manifested. Human pride in science ignores how extraction destabilizes the earth, which rests precariously. Spiritual practice is essential, yet ego and vice can persist even after millennia of austerity, as shown in a parable. The story of the ṛṣis Viśvāmitra and Vasiṣṭha demonstrates that a single minute of true satsaṅg holds more power than 72,000 years of solitary sādhanā. All philosophies distill to the law of karma: actions return as their own fruit. Therefore, purify consciousness through diligent practice and righteous living, avoiding harm to all beings.

"Are you blind? You don’t see the judgment? For one minute of satsaṅg, the whole earth raised up, and when it was 72,000 sādhanās, that was not moving."

"If you give pleasant to all... you will get the sukha. If you are giving troubles to others, you will also get a trouble."

This is the great mantra that is recited by chanting: Hari Om, Hari Om, Hari Om. This is the great mantra that is recited by chanting Hari Om. Hari Om, Hari Om… Om is Hari, and Hari is the Om. Many people listen and say "Hari Om." Is it that he is in such a hurry? What Swāmījī is talking about is that he is in a great hurry. But Swāmījī is very "hurry, hurry." Hari is the name of Bhagavān Viṣṇu. Hari je jméno Bhagavana Viṣṇua. And Om, Om is Hari. Auṃ is Hari, and Hari is the Auṃ, so Viṣṇu is one with the Auṃ. And Auṃ is that Viṣṇu. That Nāda, Rūpa, Parabrahma—the resonance, the Nāda: Akāra, Ukāra, Makāra. These are the three alphabets in the mantra Auṃ. And in this Auṃ are these three tattvas. It is called the Brahma Tattva, Śiva Tattva, and Viṣṇu Tattva. Or Śiva Tattva, Viṣṇu Tattva, and Brahmā Tattva. It doesn’t matter if you put it on this side or that side. Of course, it is billions, trillions of years that the Earth was not outside. Earth was in the water, under the water. In the Vāhara Purāṇa, you can see and read that an incarnation of God came in the form of the Vāhara (Boar). And with his teeth, he brought the whole earth up, and that’s what we call the globe. Since that time, the earth is fluttering on the water. It is not easy; it can go down, but it has been brought up. Oh man, don’t be proud of your science. Oh man, don’t be proud of your knowledge and your activities, that you are destroying the culture, the nature. How much we have drilled out from the earth. Different materials: the stones, the coal, the gas, the oil, the gold, silver, etc. What will remain in the earth? We don’t know. Suddenly, it will sink into the ocean. So it is that Viṣṇu Bhagavān, Viṣṇu, is residing on the Śeṣanāga. Nāgadeva we call. Nagdev. Nagdev, dev means God. So snake is also God. And that snake has a thousand heads. Śeṣanāga means a thousand-headed snake, and he is coiled, and on that, Viṣṇu is residing. That is Hari. And beginning this from that resonance, Nāda, there was nothing. No water, no air, many things. Śūnyākāśa. And this śūnya ākāśa, it means only the space, nothing there. And from that comes the nāda, and that is Auṃ. Auṃ kārbindu sa yuktam nityadhāyanti yogina kāmdham mokṣadam cheva OM KARAYE NAMO NAMAHA. From that comes the fire, the flame, the light. And out of that flame, light appears: Śiva and Viṣṇu and Brahmā. So Śiva ordered Bhagavān Viṣṇu to have a tapasyā, and that tapasyā that was sweating off Viṣṇu became the ocean, and Śeṣanāga was there. Now Śeṣanāga is holding the earth on his head. Bhagavān Vara, also Viṣṇu, they are all. So Bhagavān brought the earth out, and then the Śeṣanāga is now holding our earth. That was a story Mahāprabhujī Gurujī used to tell, that in the time of Bhagavān Rāma, at that time, those ṛṣis, many, many ṛṣis, were doing tapasyā. And that ṛṣi at that time was the ṛṣi Viśvāmitra and Vasiṣṭha. Viśvāmitra was a very great tapasvī, with many siddhis, and on the other side was Vasiṣṭha. The Vasiṣṭha Muni was the guru of the god Rāma. Now, there is a Kulguru and Ādhyātmik, spiritual guru. So, Kulguru was Vasiṣṭha Muni, and Viśvāmitra was the spiritual guru. But still, though there were thousands of years of sādhanā, there is still some kind of feeling that "I would like to be." It was not easy to tell Mahāṛṣi. Viśvāmitra would like to have the title Maharṣi. Viśvāmitra wanted to get the title of Maharṣi, the great ṛṣi. And who would give him the title? That king, Bhagavān Rāma’s father. And it will be declared by Vasiṣṭhamuni. So Vāśiṣṭha Muni, Viśvāmitra asked several times, "Can you bestow upon me the title of the Maharṣi?" But the Vāśiṣṭha Muni did not give. What happened? Viśvāmitra, he stole the Kāmadhenu. That which came out of the churning of the ocean was the cow. Yeah. And it is said also that he killed the son of Vasiṣṭhamuni. He did many negative things, though that ṛṣi did so much tapasyā for thousands of years. But he had ego and anger. So much tapasyā, but it’s not easy to remove those qualities which we have, what we call the vikāras, and vikāra destroys everything. Therefore, it is said: once and anek janma dhoe man ko cithāī ho to aisī ho, Phatade man viṣaya se khātāī ho to aisī ho, ar amar ho jisko khāne se mitāī ho to aisī ho. So, many, many lives and lives we try to purify those black spots in our consciousness. It’s not easy. Then what about us? We are not even like a mosquito. So one day, it was what we call a beautiful full moon night, and that moon night has a special name, the night where we cook the milk rice kheer, Cādar Pūrṇimā. Cādar Pūrṇimā means now winter will come. So the Vasiṣṭha Muni, he was invited by some other ṛṣis for evening satsaṅg, and he invited Vasiṣṭhamuni and his wife Arundhatī. Viśvāmitra got the news. The spies are always among us, so many, and especially when I tell, "Don’t tell this," they don’t tell. They said, "Don’t tell anyone." But there are people, they say, "No, I didn’t tell anyone." But with the camera, I told the whole world. So humans cannot digest in the stomach. There was one person. His nature was this. Every day, he should make someone very sad and very unhappy, troublesome. One day, he couldn’t find anyone that he could make very sad and restless, so he was. He couldn’t sleep, thinking, "Today I didn’t destroy someone’s psyche." At 2:30 in the night, he couldn’t sleep, so he took the telephone and dialed any numbers. And it was ringing, and he said, "Friend, I’m warning you. This morning, the police will come and they will take you to prison. I’m warning you, it’s your choice what you want to do now," and he hung up. And at that time, I was not taking telephone calls, so now he’s sleeping till 10 o’clock. So there are these people, they can’t digest anyhow. So what do they do? They gaze only on one point. So now my cameraman is gazing at me. Oh, I look so happy. It’s very great. Anyhow, Viśvāmitra decided to kill the Vasiṣṭhamuni. He knew that after the satsaṅg, at midnight, he would go back to his hut. So Viśvāmitra was with the arrow, heart and arrow, waiting in the forest. There was only a footpath through the forest. Midnight, beautiful night. Śarad Pūrṇimā is the most beautiful moonlight, and everything is beautiful. And so they were coming and walking, and now Viśvāmitra is stretching his heart. And the wife of Vasiṣṭhamuni, Arundhatī, she said, "My Lord, how beautiful is the moon and moonlight today." And he said, "Viśvāmitra Vāśīkara, this is this couple." Dark, only moonlight. And Vasiṣṭha Muni says, "Hā Devī, yes Devī, God is. Yes, God is. This Śarad Pūrṇimā, the full moonlight, is so pleasant and so divine. Like the Maharṣi Viśvāmitra," he threw away the arrow and bow. And he came and he bowed down, "Vasiṣṭ Muni, forgive me. I did so many bad things to you only because I want to hear from your mouth, ‘Mahāṛṣi Viśvāmitra.’ Only I want to hear it in my, this year, from your mouth. Forgive me. I took your Kāmadhenu, I killed your son, and I was ready to kill you now. Forgive me. I give you 72,000 years of my tapasyā. All my sādhanās, the fruits of all my sādhanās, from 72,000 years. Forgive me." The Vasiṣṭ Muni said, "I give you for one minute fruits of my satsaṅg." And Viśvāmitra again, "72,000 years, you don’t know how hard it was. I gave you everything, and you give me only one minute satsaṅg? That’s not justice. I want justice. Is one minute of satsaṅg equal to 72,000 years of tapasyā?" So he said, "Then let’s go and ask someone." They asked Brahmā. Brahmā said, "I can’t answer this." They asked him some others. Then they went to Śiva. Śiva said, "This I cannot give you the answer. You can only ask Viṣṇu." Viṣṇu said, "I can’t answer this. It’s not in my power." Then who? "I want justice. 72,000 years of Sādhanā. 72,000 years of Sādhanā." So then Vasiṣṭa Muni said, "Who can give the judgment? My each and every blood cell is burning." Bhagavān Viṣṇu said, "Go to the Śeṣa Nāga." The Śeṣa Nāga can give you the result, so Vasiṣṭha Muni and Viśvāmitra went to the Nāga Loka. They went under the ocean where the Śeṣa Nāga is coiled, and he’s a thousand-headed snake. Both ṛṣis went there, and Śeṣa Nāga said, "Oh, ṛṣis, what a great day, how fortunate I am. Your darśan is rare. My life became successful. I am very, very blessed. Ṛṣis, what can I do for you? You know, on my head is the whole earth. Ages and ages, I’m bearing this load of the earth." Viśvāmitra said, "We came with one request. We have one question. No one can answer this. No Brahmā, no Viṣṇu, no Śiva. They sent me to you." Said, "Yes, Ṛṣis. What can I do for you?" Viśvāmitra said, "72,000 years of sādhanā and one minute of satsaṅg. A palbhar," he said, only palbhar, it means eyes closed and open. But I’d give you one minute, all of you. So Śeṣanāga said, "Yes, Viśvāmitrājī, what is your question?" He said, "72,000 years of sādhanā. Is one minute of satsaṅg compared? Please answer." Śeṣanāga said, "Oh, holy shit. What a great. 72,000 years, and I am ages and ages in this tapasyā. The Viśvāmitra Ṛṣi, I request you, take your 72,000 years of tapasyā, tell Mother Earth, ‘Just for a while, remain without my head.’ Because my neck is hurting so much. I can get released a little bit. Mother Earth, go a little up." 72,000 sādhanā years, Earth was not moving at all. Earth said, Śeṣanāga said, "What is your question?" "Oh, Śeṣanāgjī, if one minute of satsaṅg can be more than 72,000 years of sādhanā, then Mother Earth, please lift up a little." The earth came out, and what does Nāgajī say is doing? Sarvahitāsana. Viśvāmitra said, "Please give the result, judgment." "Are you blind? You don’t see the judgment? For one minute of satsaṅg, the whole earth raised up, and when it was 72,000 sādhanās, that was not moving." Therefore, bhakti, bhakti-hīna paśu samāna—those who have no bhakti, they are like a paśu, an animal. So there are many miracles. So when Śeṣanāga has a little bit of a sore neck—not very much, but a little he moves—an earthquake takes place. So all the earthquakes are because of the movement of the Śeṣanāga. That is the kingdom of the Nāgas. That’s it. So sādhanā, practice, that’s very, very important. So even when every god has their duty, Śeṣanāga’s duty, Jaldev cannot do. The raining. Bůh deště. You know, day before yesterday, the children gave a very beautiful theater about Kṛṣṇa. And they were all the shepherds, they were suffering in the rain. So who lifted up the mountain? Kṛṣṇa. With which finger? The small fingers, and he lifted the whole mountain with his one finger. So that is Indra, but even Indra, the ocean is more stronger than this, that’s called Sāgara, the ocean. There are so many stories of, that’s called Purāṇa. Purāṇa means ancient, old. And these are, when you read, there are eight Purāṇas. And there are some other sub-Purāṇas; they are, in all, 108 Purāṇas. And Mukhi Purāṇas are eight. Of those Mukhi Purāṇas, the main ones are eight. The four Vedas, the six Śāstras, and the Purāṇas, and the Purāṇas. Śuk diyā śuk hotā hai, duk diyā duk hotā hai, ye bāt hai. So, four Vedas, eighteen Purāṇas, and six philosophies of India, the essence of them all, our Gurujī used to say, is only two words: śuk diya, śuk ho the. If you give pleasant to all, if you make happy all, if you love all, you are not torturing anyone, then suk diya, sukha hothe. If you give the sukha, you will get the sukha. If you give good words, they will give you also good words. And the second sentence of the word said, "If you are giving troubles to others, you will also get a trouble." So all what they are asking the question, and they are torturing and killing the animals, and eating the animals, and eating the chickens, and eating the eggs. And this egg is not vegetarian. And then all those who ask about the different questions about eating meat, eating eggs, and closing a chicken, so when we take the egg, it’s not, it’s like a power, something. Yeah, that’s it. Yeah. It’s the menstruation of the women, of the chicken. So this is not eatable. The eggs are not eatable. And the master of Paramahaṃsa Yogananda, he writes in one of his books, "Who eats one egg, for ten days you cannot meditate." It takes a whole month, and if you are using every day, forget the meditation, go in the garden and work. Hari Om Dasat. So this is, this is so, Ānanda. And sādhanā is something, you see, let’s say how hard life had Mother Maria, and how hard life had Jesus, how hard had Kṛṣṇa’s life and Rāma’s life, all so who are we? Therefore, be careful and do the sādhanā, purify, clear everything. That’s it. So many Purāṇas, and one Purāṇa is called the Garuḍa Purāṇa, and the Garuḍa Purāṇa is mostly for the ancestors. Yes, how the soul is going, and it awakens the vairāgya. If there’s no vairāgya, then the soul will be suffering, and then it’s hanging in the pitṛloka. So there are mantras from the Garuḍa Purāṇa, and that Garuḍa Purāṇa can liberate you. Ancestors. But some paṇḍits have to give so many sacrifices. It’s not easy. You get nothing free. It means, "What, free?" Sādhānā, tapasyā, pūjā, yajña, many, many things. We have on every altar pūjās every morning and evening. And Sunday, especially in the church, you have pūjā. Yes, that pūjā has great meanings. It influences your ancestors, you also, etc. So the human life is a perfect life. Prepare thyself to come to the Brahmaloka, Mokṣa Loka. Don’t think that you become a sannyāsī and now you are Brahmajñānī. No. Many sādhus, okay, we have saṃskāras, saṃskāra we had, we have Rudrākṣa, and we are Brahmajñānī, okay. Enjoy. Yes, that does not bring you to Brahmajñāna. You will be that mouse under the earth. From time to time, you will take the air. Who would suffer? minkni cerega yahu sarp? Therefore, sādhanā and yoga, so yoga is great. Tomorrow we will do again. Who is going tomorrow morning? Oh, God, will we have a lecture again? Okay, good. We will have the first lecture, and then you can go, okay? I’ll liberate you at 12 o’clock. So the Maṅgīlāl jī seat? What did Maṅgīlāl jī say? There is a bhajan of Maṅgilāl jī, right? "Sādo bhai mat karo tum mādo"? Yes? You have the bhajan? Maṅgilāl jī’s bhajan. Sādo bhai, kyun karo the mādo? Sā bhajan mai jodo. Okay, now, now, Umāpurī will sing good. We will try. There’s no cable on this mic, okay? So, wish you all the best and very nice good night. Śrīdīp Nayal Bhagavān Kī Jai, Dev Puruṣa Mahādevan Kī Jai, Mādhav Kṛṣṇa Bhagavān Kī Jai, Sab Ṛṣi Munī Mahātmā Kī Jai, Om Śānti Śānti...
