Kriya Anusthan

The purpose of Kriyā Anuṣṭhāna is threefold: physical purification, mental and intellectual purification, and spiritual clarity. You possess the technique, but you must practice it yourself. Do not depend solely on blessings; you must do the work. Follow the techniques without constant change. This practice purifies body, mind, and karma to foster spiritual development. Everything needed is within you; laziness and guilt are also within you. The practice involves Cakra Śodhana with eleven mantras, a number representing continuity. This anuṣṭhāna is a preparation, beginning with training the physical body to be motionless. Do not stop at zero; the universe is zero, and entering it leads to the infinite. Your practice must be done by you, without doubt, greed, or attachment.

"God said, 'I gave you everything.'"

"Therefore, do not stop at zero."

Hari Om. Anuṣṭhāna, Kriyā Anuṣṭhāna—many of you have been doing it for nearly five weeks, two weeks in Hungary and three weeks here. For many, this is the first week of this Kriyā Anuṣṭhāna. The purpose of the Kriyā Anuṣṭhāna is threefold. First, it is for physical purification, which means moving toward good health. The second step is mental and intellectual purification, which is also reflected in our body as good health. The third point is the clarity of our path and the development of spirituality. So, physical, mental, social, and then spiritual. In all this, purification is needed. You have the technique, but you have to practice yourself. You have a car, but the car has to be driven; you have to drive the car. Similarly, if we want to progress further on our spiritual path, then we have to do the work. Do not think that through the blessing of Gurujī everything will be okay. It is not like that. Yes, Gurujī will help us. It will be His blessings, and He will guide our techniques of practice. But you have to practice; you have to do it yourself. So, whether practicing āsanas and prāṇāyāmas—we have many yoga teachers here for training, and many yoga teachers are giving instructions and teachings for the new teachers—everyone has some different techniques or ways of teaching. That is okay for a certain time. But when we are seriously practicing, then there are two points. Be sure: you have to walk; you have to do it yourself. And the second point: follow the techniques. Do not change them again and again. So, our anuṣṭhāna is for the purification of the body and the purification of our mind, our awareness, our intellect, and the purification of karmas, so that we can develop toward spirituality. But once again, I am saying it is you who have to do it. Do not depend, because God said, "I gave you everything." One man goes to God and said, "God, I am so poor, I am very poor." God said, "You are not poor. Why are you crying, 'Poor, poor, poor'? I gave you everything. I gave you two very good eyes to see. So you do not need any instruction. You see good or bad. You have good organs. You have your two good hands, your legs, a good brain. I gave you everything. Why do you not utilize it?" It all depends even on the doctor. The doctor will give you only medicine. But you have to take the medicine. So, in this way, when we go further in your anuṣṭhāna meditation, self-inquiry meditation of our yoga and life, everything is within you. Techniques are within you, laziness is within you, the guilt is in you. Whatever you want to achieve, it is within us, so God said. Your whole body is full of the treasure that you can say is the best of the best, and no one can steal it, because if someone steals from you, they cannot use anything. If someone takes your hand off, cuts your hand, they cannot use anything. So it is with you. And there is a lot of pollution collecting in our life. And God said, "I know everything. Time to time, I am warning you, but you cannot." When someone dies, for example, we cry or we weep, we are sad. Sometimes we are very, very sad, but God is not cruel. God is not cruel. It is in us: our laziness, our ego, our proudness—naše lenost, naše ego, naše pýcha. And Cakra Śodhana, the eleven mantras, which have great meaning. Eleven is a very spiritual number. We do not put zero; we put nine. It means one hundred and eight, so zero is not counted. We do not count zero. We count nine, ten, eleven, but no zero. So one and zero eight is nine, and nine will remain. Always nine. You can count nine times a hundred times nine, and the end result will be only nine. That is a fact. The zero, you know who put the zero in? A name I have forgotten, but an Indian ṛṣi. Otherwise, we were counting with the line: one, two, three, four, etc. So the mathematical problem was solved by zero. And zero, everything is zero. Our earth, our globe is zero. The whole universe is zero. All the energy is flowing, is going through like a zero. Every cell is zero. Water is zero. A fine to fine drop of water is like a zero. Therefore, someone in India we are writing one thousand eight. Your Holiness, one thousand eight. And one writes only one hundred eight. In reality, it is nine. One thousand eight is also zero; it is not counted—two zeros. Similarly, the eleventh number. Where there is zero, there is the end. Minus, plus. Zero. So the one, the eleven, means the continuity. That is why we take eleven. When you begin something, do not end at the number ten, or twenty, or fourteen. 40, etc. Because 40 is 40, that is all. So it is only four, but in front of the four, when you put a zero, we said it is a 40, still 40. But then when you come to one, then it goes continuous. So, eleven is a continuity, according to this, the Jyotiṣ, or this is called the five, eleven. Fifteen, twenty-one, twenty-five, fifty-one, etc. So it means continuity. Now, when we make this our cakra śodhana, where we put on every cakra eleven numbers, so that you continue. And when you practice eleven rounds, it is going to continue your sādhanā. Then it is automatically going into your consciousness. That chakra is activated very much. And that is going through the physical level, the mental or astral level, awareness or concentration, as well as the continuity of our sādhanā. Therefore, this anuṣṭhāna, what we are doing, there are some techniques, they are very, very good techniques, but due to your physical capacity, it is minimized. Otherwise, all these techniques which you have there, you are also doing aniloma prāṇāyāma on certain chakras. So you have just five minutes, ten minutes, five minutes. This anuṣṭhāna ought to be 18 hours, and 6 hours you have for different things. So now, for 18 hours when you sit, because of your physical discomfort, it will affect your psychic. You will cry, you will give up. So this kind of anuṣṭhāna, what we have, is a preparation, a preparation for many, many years. First is our physical body training. We call it sukhāsana. Sukhāsana means comfortable posture. And then kāya sthairyam. Kāya is the body. Sthairyam is motionless. Now, it can happen that a person like Devpurījī is sleeping because he is motionless. Kāyā Sthairyam. But then, Laya Samādhi. Not māyā, layā. Māyā samādhi is also there. The māyā samādhi is in the bank, which is sitting on the counter. And he has to give money to the customers, millions. So there is... he should not mix, miss. Very good concentration. That is called māyā samādhi. Who is sitting on the counter? That person said, "For him or her, money is like a newspaper." They do not touch inside. It is just for them; it is just a paper. And then when they go to the bathroom, they clean with the soap so much because you never know which kind of infections come with the different kind of money. So they said they are only counting, they do not take it as money. So, when you have this anuṣṭhān kriyā, then after a while, I have one bhakta, he is not here today; after three to four minutes of pranayama, he goes into pranayama samādhi. Prāṇāyāma Samādhi. And he is doing like this. Really, he is so in deep samādhi. So when you are in the zero, zero can make you a millionaire, and zero can make you bankrupt. One bhakta was living with one master. There are two aims one has: either to get something from Gurujī, get some blessings, and second is spiritual. So one man was living with one master for ten, fifteen years. He is coming, working, doing karma yoga. He is married, has children. He goes home at midnight, sometimes at three o'clock, etc. But he was living mostly near service, doing the karma yoga at the āśram. One day Gurujī asked him, "Do you have any wish?" He said, "Nothing. I do only Seva, Karuṇā. The rest is in your hands." After a few more months, Gurujī said, "How is your family, this, that?" You know, Gurujī, how is my family? Do you want something? No. One day on Guru Pūrṇimā, Master said, "Have you any wish?" He said, "No, Gurujī. It is your blessing." You know that I am not working anywhere. I am all in your seva, and your family situation is, of course, different. They survive. So Gurujī said, "Bring me one piece of paper and pencil." So he brought paper and a pencil. Gurujī wrote one and gave this paper to him. "Do not lose this paper. You will get one rupee per day. How? That is in your kishmat. So your family will get one rupee." That time you were getting one rupee for one month's work. At that time, money had no value. No, that time money had a value, sorry. Now money has no value. More or less, we are all millionaires, and Italians were billionaires. Every Italian, but now they dream about it. Some do not even have 10,000 euros. Well, it was good. Next Guru Purnima came. Guruji said, "Have you any wish? How is it at home?" "Yes, Guruji, Guruji, it is slowly, slowly. Expenditure is getting expensive." So Gurujī said, "Do you have that paper with you?" He said, "Yes, Gurujī." Not only paper, even I have a pencil. So Gurujī, on one, in front of the one, he wrote one zero. "You will get every day ten rupees." How it will come, I do not know. Well, he is getting every day ten rupees. The family was happy, had enough. Next Guru Pūrṇimā came, the third one. Gurujī asked, "How is your family?" "You are only here," he said. "Yes, Guruji, they are all happy, okay." But now he said, "But," he said, "Guruji, all who come to our ashram, people from far distance, everyone comes to my house, your house," he said. "They know me because I am living with you in your sevā. Some people come first to my house, also go to my house, and of course my wife and children, they are serving them, giving tea, giving this, that. It is okay, Gurujī, it is also seva, but expenditure is..." Expanding, have you that paper with you? Yes, Gurudev, hold this, and I give you the paper. He wrote one zero more, about a hundred rupees. One year you work, or two years, then you get so much. Now he opened a restaurant like Tilak and a little factory like Muktanand. So, that bhakta reduced the hours for seva in the ashram and was looking after his business more. After one day, he came after twenty days. Gurujī said, "You did not come for 5 days, 10 days." Gurujī, I was in your seva. There are so many people who come and go. I have one shop, a factory, just so that the children can have their life. So I was busy, Gurudeva. This little shop cannot survive, and with that, we cannot survive. Have you that paper in your pocket? Yes, Gurudeva, here it is. Gurujī again, all one, zero more. A thousand. And next Guru Pūrṇimā, again he came and put one zero more: ten thousand per day. Then he was coming, going, doing seva. He brought some prasād. And Guruji said, "You are coming less and less." Yes, Gurudev, I have bought ten taxis and hired about fifty workers. This is all your Māyā, Gurudev, not mine. But somehow, income tax is too high. Gurujī said income tax will be finished one day. Have you the paper with you? Gurudev, this is in the golden pocket. So that no humidity goes in, humidity. Give me. Gurujī wrote again, zero. 100,000 per day. Now he is at home. He is the richest person in this whole area. Everyone goes to Gurujī. Everyone, when they come to Gurujī, they just have the paper in their hands and are walking. And they said, "Gurujī, your bhakta is not here in the seva. Can we be in your seva?" Gurujī said, "There is no problem. Work in the garden, take care of the cows. Clean the cows' house. Clean the rooms when bhaktas come, give the meetings, etc." Now, Guru Pūrṇimā is coming. So that bhakta, he was famous with the zero, so he brought big flowers, a bunch, and some sweets. His servants were carrying a nice shawl for Gurujī, and he made a praṇām and gave a donation of ten rupees. Gurujī said, "You came only twice this year. Do you have some problems? Have you family problems? Are you ill? Or your bhakti became less?" No, Gurudeva, no, Gurudeva, no. Never, never, never. Always. Śvāsau śvās āpākā sumirana. Śvāsau śvās āpākā sumirana malvīkṣep vāvarṇa harlījo. Malvīkṣep he jo Śrī Dīpā Dayā la haja sunā. Dīpā Dayā kar kira pā satsaṅg dī jokā pā. He, jo Śrī Dīpā Dā Prabhu Dīpā Dā Guru Swāmī Madhavānandjī Bhagavān, Swas Swas Āpkā Swamūran Gurujī, mere malvik sep avaran har lenā. Please remove all impurities, greediness, etc. from my heart. I need only Satsaṅg, Gurudev, nothing else. But there are few factories, few taxis, some buses, and people are coming and forcing me to make one factory more and one business more. All these people come and advise me on how to spend money there or invest the money. Gurudev, I need only satsaṅg. So Gurujī said, "Gurujī said, you have the paper, Gurudeva, that is in the heart, the upper part of my heart, and that same pencil, you know Gurujī, because this is a holy pencil, this is a miracle, Gurujī." So Gurujī said, "Okay." So he thought he would get one more zero. So Gurujī made a cross on the one. Only zero, zero, zero. There is no one. Finished. Within one year, the whole property, everything, companies fell, this fell, that fell, everything, and he would only go and have a satsaṅg. He was bankrupt. In his bank account and every account, he had a zero. Gurujī said, "Now you will have enough time. Do your sādhanā anuṣṭhāna." Therefore, do not stop at zero. There will remain still. If you cut one, there is still number one. It is there. Eleven, so zero. The whole universe is zero, and when you will enter into the zero, then you are in anant, in Brahman. In that Brahma Loka, then, is one. So, in our Cakra Śodhanam, all the cakras from the foot sole till the head, the top of the head, we have this sādhanā. What we are doing, Anuṣṭhān, all cakras, our consciousness, our awareness, our emotion. Our spirituality, everything is purified and proceeding on the higher level, but only and only you can do. You have to practice. If you have a little doubt in your heart, then you are out. Therefore, no doubt and good things, clean things, no greed. No emotion, no attachment. It should be very clear in the mirror. That is called crystal clear. Do your sādhanā. That will lead you to your destination. But Gurudev is that light which will never let you fall into the darkness. But practice you have to do. You have to get up. You have to go yourself to the bathroom. You should wash yourself because the laziness from the night, if you go to the cold water, everything will awake in the body, and you can do your mantra. Nidrā, sleep, is gone. Old sleep. Go to that house in which there is no bhakti. Sleep, nidrā, uṣā, go! Oh sleep, go in that house in which there is no bhakti. Therefore, it is said there are two who cannot sleep. Lucky are they that they too cannot sleep. One is an ill person, where there is a lot of pain. The whole night, they remember God and wait for the doctor, thinking, "Please, doctor, come quickly," always looking at the watch. That pain, who has a pain, cannot sleep. Second, a yogī. So, rogī or yogī. Who is ill cannot sleep, and who is the yogī cannot, does not want to sleep. Mīrābāī said, daytime she cannot eat, and at night she cannot sleep. There is a bhajan from Mīrābāī. Gajarāṇjī is always singing his favorite bhajans. So, therefore, this anuṣṭhāna, what you are doing is a very beautiful technique, a very scientific technique, and I try to make it as comfortable as possible for you. We need the space so that you can have your anuṣṭhāna. So you must have a space of about three cubic meters. And then, second person, and we were 600 people. And it was 800 people. In the beginning, it was nearly 1,100 people. We have to spread ourselves in the whole strilky. So we made a nice, comfortable place that you can practice. Therefore, all the best. And enjoy your sādhanā. I wish you all the best. Deep Nāmā. Bhagavān Devpurījī Samādhi Satguru Swāmīmādhavānandajī. Bhagavān Satya Sanātana Dharma. Om Śānti. Viśva Guru Mahāmandir. Viśva Guru Mahāmandir....
