Peace and bliss result from Satsang

World peace arises from spiritual knowledge and practice. Knowledge alone is insufficient; it must be applied. The Vedas provide this practical wisdom through three paths: action, devotion, and knowledge. True knowledge reveals the world as one family. Protecting this family requires rising above divisions. Health and inner peace are foundations, cultivated through yoga and meditation. Saints distribute this knowledge. By accepting and living it, individual well-being fosters global peace. Satsang, or holy company, transforms the mind toward truth. Teaching these principles in family and society spreads peace. Ultimately, peace within creates peace in the world.

"Sab ke pās knowledge bhī hotā hai, lekin khālī knowledge hī rahe jātā hai. It does not come in practical life."

"Yogaścitta-vṛtti-nirodhaḥ. Yoga begins when our consciousness is controlled, restrained from its various modifications."

Part 1: A Satsaṅg on World Peace So, Swāmījī, His Holiness Mahāmaṇḍaleśwar Śrī Harichandrapurījī Mahārāj, in America, in New York. His big ashram is here, as well as his temple. There are many holy pūjās and worships, and many people are coming every day, doing prayers, meditations, and satsaṅgs. And Swāmījī is giving food to hundreds, thousands of people, for which they don’t charge anything. Food for the people—anyone can come, eat, etc. For many years he was moving around America, and now he has made another beautiful, beautiful temple here in Queens near Long Island. His Holiness is the Senior Mahāmaṇḍaleśvar of the Mahānirvāṇī Akhāṛā, and we have a very close friendship with Gurujī. We all enjoy the Kumbha Melā, we learn many things from each other, and whenever I come to the USA, I come to Mahāmaṇḍaleśvarjī’s. We have satsaṅgs here. We have many beautiful satsaṅgs. Today, on the 7th of March, 2018, in the name of the Śrī Svāmī Madhavānand World Peace Council, we organized an event at the United Nations Building, Headquarters, New York. We had a daytime conference there, and now we have satsaṅg, as well as, of course, we are talking about world peace. So, I would like to give the mic to His Holiness Śrī Haricandra Purījī Mahārāj to give us the message to the world on how to bring world peace. What can we do, we all humans, to bring peace to the world? So, Mahābandheśvarjī, the mic is yours. Thank you. Turn down the volume. Śāntiḥ, Śāntiḥ, Śāntiḥ. He Śrīmat Paramahaṁsa Parivrājak Ācārya Śrotriya Brahmaniṣṭha 1008 Svāmī Maheśvarānandajī Mahārāja Jagadguru, āp sāvī devotees, devotees? Yes, Sāvī devotees, Bhagavān Śaṅkar Kailāśpatī Mahādev kī chhatr chhāyā, Sarve bhavantu sukhinaḥ, Sarve santu nirāmayāḥ, Sarve bhadrāṇi paśyantu, Mā kaścid duḥkhabhāg bhavet, and Vasudhaiva kuṭumbakam. We do not have good English, then we have Hindi. All are good. Hindi is the first language, and then came English. No, they understand very much. And not only that, there are other Hindi speakers around the world, Swāmījī. Swāmījī, Mahārāj, Svāmī Maheśvarānandajī Mahārāj, jīneke dvārā ye viśva śānti kā āyojan sārī viśva mẽ kiyā jā rahā hai, yeh ham sab kī lie gaurav kī bāt hai. Aise mahāpuruṣon ke dvārā itnā puruṣārth, you know that I have a big, big ashram in Rajasthan, Oṁ. Thousands of work, the wish for world peace. Hum sab log Mahārāj kā sahāyog kareṁ ismeṁ. Because the knowledge that they have, they have practiced that knowledge. Sab ke pās knowledge bhī hotā hai, lekin khālī knowledge hī rahe jātā hai. It does not come in practical life. So this is the knowledge that is being given to you by this world, the knowledge that is being given to you, the brotherhood that is being given to each other, the family that is present in our culture, that the whole world is our family. The world is a family: brothers, mothers, everything. All these high-level thoughts will become like a family when they come into us. And the way we protect our family, help each other in all ways, in happiness and sorrow, in the same way, in this world, we rise above all these castes and religions and understand how to be happy. Like there is a medicine, a medicine that removes a disease, whether it is a disease of any corner of the world that makes it happy, in the same way, the knowledge of the great men, the knowledge of the whole world, the knowledge of world peace, in the Sanātana Vedic Dharma, the name is the Veda. The Vedas are the holy books of our Sanātana Dharma. They have three divisions. Karma Kāṇḍa, you do your karma. And second is Upāsanā Kāṇḍa, you do the meditation, chanting, bhajan, anything. And last is the Jñāna Kāṇḍa. You have everything properly, then God gives you the blessing. That blessing gives you the power. Knowledge is everything for you, and you give this world to all people. You are everywhere, everything, and always with you. You are not alone. You pray, you have good knowledge, then you understand that. So, Bhagavān kī jo śakti hai, uske upāsanā karne ke bādh hī hum viśvakalyāṇa kar sakte haiṁ. Bhagavān ko aur dharma ko, soul, your body, very important for you to understand before you die. The knowledge the Guru gives is for you. Swāmījī always practices for you, ki yeh sansār mein, yeh viśv mein, yeh world mein, aap achitrato se rahen. Doosro ko, this time present, everybody have the heat that they are totally physically, everybody hospital, too much medicine, heat, that but you have the practically this exercise, yoga, dhyāna, karma. You are doing the preaching in this world that yoga, then maybe people are doing it nicely, physically strong, and physically strong, then you have no problem. Big problem is your health is not good, then everything is loose. This world knows nothing you have. And you have the knowledge, and you give this world, from family to family, country to country, state to state, then maybe people will always go nicely, with not too much headache and not too much problem. In this world, in this world, whatever is being done by you is done by the saints, by the sanyāsīs. Their knowledge is distributed, given to you, and you accept it, explain it, and you understand it. And when you understand it, then your well-being... And with your well-being, the word of the world, the word of the world... Mahāprabhudīp Karatā Mahāprabhudīp Karatā He Kevalam Mahāprabhudīp Karatā He Kevalam Mahāprabhudīp Karatā He Kevalam... And for that, your gathering, this satsaṅg, this unity, as much unity as you have, you can give to each other. Those who do not understand are explained to again and again, so this practice of again and again, this practice. Will give you complete knowledge one day, and when you do good to the world, then the world will do good to you too. Kahi bhi aap good karma karte hain, toh uska jo aapko achchā miltā hai. Isliye ye satsaṅg Swāmījī Mahārāj nahīn, Sant Rāṣṭra Saṅgh yānī United Nations mein jo program rakhe hain, uskā release sāre viśva mein hotā hai, jo kuch bolte hain vo sārā anchor caltā hai TV ke dvārā pracār prasār, and that is such a good tool that people pray to it as soon as they sit at home. So it is the duty of all of you, that we all, wherever we are—these big temples are built, ashrams are built, temples are built—it is the duty of all of us that we adopt the path of world peace along with the Sanātana tradition. Mahāprabhudip Karata, Mahāprabhudip Karata He Kevalam. Without fear, without half, just like that, our Vedic tradition’s knowledge, which is its medicine, which is meditation, and how much more of Āyurveda, Kapila’s countless, which Vyāsa Jī has said in the Brahma Sūtra, all of that... All the knowledge that is there, these are very deep knowledge. To understand them, you should live with your good gurus, understand them, and give them to the world. Then the world will be blessed. That is why his name is Sarve Bhavantu Sukhinah. That is, if you want to see all happiness, then try to give happiness to everyone, practice and understand how to be blessed. Aaj ke vartamān mein log aur ūrte siddhe cihna dikhā ke sikhā kar ke bhaṭkāte haiṁ, vo bhaṭkāv na ho kar ke dīp aur gambhīr jñān āpke andar hogā, to āp chalāī mān nahīṁ hoṅgī, aur sārā viśva mein āp apnā jisī prakār se Mahārāj kī dev hī śikṣyā kā, Jo dho jāye haiṁ, sab jāgo āpke lehrāye kī. To hum bhī Bhagavān se prathānā karte hain, Mahārāj Dhīrgāyu Ho, Long Life Ho, Svast Ho, Prasanna Ho Aur Isvishu Ke Kalyāṇ Ke Liye Jo Yojanā Inu Ne Banāī Hai Lakhon, Millions of People Follow Karte Hain Swāmījī Ko Aur Swāmījī Kī Great Tovitār Dharāyain. Jo unkā knowledge hai, jo unkā yoga hai, jo unkā Kumbha Melā kā ās hai, they are all for the well-being of the world. That is why Swāmījī is the guru of the world, and because he is the guru of the world, this knowledge goes to every nation. Even in this state, and even after so much happens, it still goes. It means that they want the whole world to be in bliss, in peace, and after that, divine knowledge and happiness. And may everyone’s life be bright in the future, and may we also be blessed with this. We pray to God that you all also remain happy in this way, remain peaceful, remain in bliss, and there is no end. There is no end. So, what else can I say? Do you have any questions? No, no one has any questions. Oh, yes. No, everybody is tired, and the food is ready, and they are eating now. Great, the weather is very bad for you people, you know, that is the hard work you do. That means you have the connection with the Swāmījī’s power, or Swāmījī takes everybody here, and you enjoy that. Śivaśakti Pīṭh, this is the Hindu Sanātana Vedic temple. They also have world peace, and everybody, bless you. Narasiṃha, peace, love, and happiness. Thank you so much. Jai! Oṁ Śāntiḥ Śāntiḥ... So, Dayā Purī, come, the floor is yours. Praṇām Viṣṇu Jī, Praṇām Your Holiness Hariśānt Purī Jī Mahārāj. Thank you. Dear brothers and sisters, thank you for coming to this event, to have this conference in God, near the Gurujī, that’s it, good. This morning we chanted mantras. Oṁ Guru Brahma, Guru Viṣṇu, Guru Devo Maheśvarāha, Guru Sākṣā Paraṁ Brahma, Śāstra Śrī Vyodhanamaha. Dear friends, this evening we are extremely happy. We have a rare opportunity that we can hear, that we can see with our eyes, hear with our ears, and feel with our heart that Guru who is Viṣṇu, who is Maheśvara, who is Sākṣāt Parabrahma. This evening, the divine light, you can see, is manifested through two great saints, through His Holiness Parīś Chandra Purījī Mahārāj, through our dear Master Viśvagurujī Paramparāsvāmī Maheśvarānandajī. We cannot hear, we cannot see the divine, unmanifested Paramātmā, but Paramātmā is manifested through holy saints, and we can hear their advice, we can see them, and their appearance in this world helps us to cross the ocean of this saṃsāra. Now, our topic is peace, yoga and peace, or what yoga can do for peace. So, what can our śāstras say about it? But, do we have a right to say our śāstras are not millions? Yes, we have a right. Why? Because in the śāstras is universal knowledge, knowledge for everyone. So, first what comes to mind is from Patañjali’s Yoga Sūtras. Part 2: The Essence of Yoga and Satsaṅg for World Peace Yogaścitta-vṛtti-nirodhaḥ. This is how our Gurujī, our Viśvagurujī, explains it: yoga begins when our citta (consciousness) is controlled, restrained from its various vṛttis (modifications). Alternatively, through the practice of yoga, we can achieve that very control. Different circumstances, these vṛttis, will arise in our mind. Is there any religion or any culture that would not benefit from the control of these vṛttis? No. Every spiritual leader, every society, every country would benefit from a person who is able to control the citta-vṛttis and not be influenced by different disturbances from within. Then, we can simply open the Bhagavad Gītā and read what Śrī Kṛṣṇa advised Arjuna: "May you do your work as worship, as worship to the Divine." How do we worship? With full concentration and with love. "Mahāprabhujī kī Karatā, Mahāprabhujī kī Karatā..." A person who performs work as yoga is described in the Bhagavad Gītā, and this person always has in the background the qualities of Dhyāna Yoga, Rādhya, Viveka, Ṣaṭsampatti, Ananuṣṭhāna, and Rāja Yoga meditation. As our universal Devoship, Mahāprabhujī, advises: do your meditation, in the morning and in the night. Swāmījī said to stand close to our beloved Gurujī, and we remember what Gurujī said: peace and bliss result from satsaṅg. Satsaṅg is being in the company where truth is spoken. If we imagine a white cloth dipped in red water, it becomes red. If we dip a white cloth in blue water, it becomes blue. So, if we are in good company, our mind will become good also, and we will maintain those good qualities within us. If we are in bad company, slowly, slowly, we will bring our good qualities down. This education comes first from the family, and then from regular education in school. I also remember our dear Gurujī, Śrī Madhav Prabhujī. Many times, we read and we learn with one sentence, again and again. Then, bhaktas come to Mahāprabhujī, and he gives satsaṅg in the form of bhajans. Thus, bhajans appear as teaching. And when they were ready to leave, Mahāprabhujī said to them—very often mentioned in living America—"Nothing belongs to you. Hold to the truth and take from God." If we teach our children these qualities from the beginning, in family and in school also, the world will have more peace. One of the last golden teachings Mahāprabhujī gave was: "Dear brothers and sisters, wake up, remember your duty, and fulfill your dharma." Śrī Dīp Nārāyaṇ, Bhagavān, Ṛkhi Jai, Mahārāj, Mahārāj... Ṛkhi Jai. Yesterday she arrived from San Francisco. The floor is yours, Meera. Good evening, everyone. This afternoon, Īśvagurujī asked us to think about saying a few words about Holī Gurujī. I met Īśvagurujī in 2011, so I did not have the opportunity to meet Holī Gurujī in person. But I have heard many stories from bhaktas around the world, stories about him at the satsaṅg. There seem to me to always be three things that everyone says about Hare Gurujī. The first is how much he loved to sing, and bhajans in particular, and how he seemed to have an amazing ability to communicate and teach in a way that was accessible to everyone. Another thing everyone seems to say about him was that he had the most amazing light in his eyes; that when you looked at him, there was just a brightness that radiated—a joy, a purity. Maybe in the same way that was said at the conference today: when you see Viśvagurujī, his smile just lights you up inside, and you feel welcome and at home. The other thing that everyone also seems to say about Halī Gurujī is how devoted he was. Whenever you saw him, he always had his mālā, and he was meditating and repeating his mantras. I’ve actually thought about this quite a lot recently. I am doing a women’s Bible study at the moment, and we have been talking a lot about the Ten Commandments in the Old Testament, in particular about the Sabbath. One of the Ten Commandments is that God told Moses to tell the Israelites: "For six days you work, but on the seventh day, you, your family, the livestock that you own that may help you make your living, the people who may help you in your home—everyone has a rest for a day." We’ve been discussing why stress a day of grace, why emphasize a Sabbath. I think what we’ve just been talking about is that when there is prosperity, and maybe especially in the modern world today, when there is convenience and ease of life, it is very easy to forget God, and then it may be very easy to forget one another. So, as I live my daily life, how can I not forget that? How do I stay on that path? Even though I have not met him, Holy Gurujī has come to mind. With his mālā, always repeating his mantras, meditating, always keeping God foremost, his devotion was always out in front. And maybe in some way, that is how he remembers God. As I was listening to everyone speak today at the World Peace Conference, everyone used their own words. "Mahāprabhujī kī kṛpā, Mahāprabhujī kī kṛpā." Something I think I will now go back to California and think about is: how can I enjoy my everyday, how can I stay devoted, and how can I contribute and help? Thank you, Meera. This is Parash. She’s from Brazil. This one? Okay. Thank you, everybody. I’m going to be brief. Thank you so much, Swamiji. Thank you, brothers and sisters. I’m so happy, so pleased to be here today. What a wonderful day here in New York, at the United Nations. I’m just so happy and so thankful. Since I met Swamiji, my life has been very... I’m very happy. There is bliss. Thank you so much, Swāmījī. I am very thankful. Thank you. Thank you, Parās. She is a long-time disciple, serving in the lines, traveling through the whole world. But whenever she is, whenever she has time—as a passenger on the aeroplane—she is sitting, making her mantra, and her mālā is always in her hand. So, thank you very much. We are continuing this talk of our Śrī Svāmī Madhavānand World Peace Council, and very soon we will complete. Jyoti from London. I didn’t have too much time to prepare, so I opened Leela Amrit, and the first story that I read inspired me immediately, of course. On February 17th, 1966, Holy Gurujī was planning to return home from a long tour by train, from where he had journeyed to different towns to hold satsaṅg and spread the divine teachings of Mahāprabhujī, when he heard Mahāprabhujī’s voice. These words were a command for him, so he postponed his journey. The next morning, the newspapers reported that the train in which he had intended to journey was involved in an accident. In prayer, he thanked Mahāprabhujī, who always held his protecting hand over him. I reflected on this and thought back to the lesson Swāmījī shared with us earlier. Swamiji is our captain, our pilot, and we are his co-pilots, listening as he guides us, protects us, and tells us which button to press at the right moments to make sure we journey safely to our destination. As Holy Gurujī said, our master’s words are our commands. So it’s up to us to understand that we should not argue with or ignore Guru Vākya. Instead, we should choose to listen to the words of our Master in order to avoid mistakes. Thank you, Jyoti. Now we have here from Slovenia, a long-year disciple and a pillar of the yoga daily life in Slovenia, our dear Durgā. Praṇām, Swāmījī. Praṇām, Your Holiness. What to say? I would like to say that I am really proud and happy that I was at the United Nations with you, Swamiji, and this really means a lot to me. When we were traveling to America, I was thinking: what is the connection between yoga and peace? When we came to America, the first thing that came to my mind was when I saw this in New York—these so friendly people. First, I saw that when you give something good to others and when you are kind to others, this will come back to you. Be kind and help someone. This spreads; these other people will help someone else. And in this way, peace can be shared and can go further. I am really impressed how people in New York are kind. Next, what came to my mind, what touched me, was yesterday when you were speaking about inner peace. You said that when you have burning desires, it burns inside you and you don’t have peace. And when you accept where you are, what you have, and you say to yourself—you said, Swāmījī, if I remember, "let it be as it is, accept it as it is"—then you will find peace in yourself. And then peace outside, in the family and in the society, will come. I would also share one thing that touched me when we came to New York with my husband. We went to those two strawberry fields where there is this memorial point of Vitas. One man was nicely singing the song "Let It Be." When one of the Beatles had troubles in his life, Mother Mary came to him and she said to him, "Let it be, let it be, let it be." This is what I wanted to share with you, Swāmījī. Thank you, Nirghā Devī. You have learned about how to bring peace in the world. Each and everyone’s thoughts, each and everyone’s target, and each and everyone’s own knowledge on how to bring peace. Peace is within ourselves, and we can only bring this peace from our heart. We are above caste, creed, religion, etc. But we shall think of all creatures, vegetation, and all other innocent animals and humans. God has given the knowledge, the strength, and the power which He gave to us. So it is said: God sent us as a protector, not a distractor. Love each and every entity. If not more, then at least that is as much as we love ourselves. Thank you very much. And now we are closing this with a ceremony. Our Sri Swami Madhavananda World Peace Council here at the United Nations wishes you all the best and a good journey back. With this, I will give the mic to our dear Sugata Purī to close the ceremony. Thank you. With the mantra. Yes, Swāmījī. Since our conference started with the peace mantra, it is nice that it is concluded with the peace mantra also. So let us all together chant now the peace mantra: Bholśanātan Dharma, Dīp Nārāyaṇ Bhagavān, Devādhi Deva, Deveśvara Mahādeva, Alakhpurījī Mahādeva, Satguru Svāmī Madhavān, Bhagavān, Harī Candra Mahārāja, Kī Jaya Om.
