Meditation

Meditation is the spontaneous state of oneness with the Self, not a practice of concentration. The soul searches for its destination within. Coming home to oneself after daily duties is meditation. It cannot be forced, just as sleep cannot be forced by trying. Concentration on objects or thoughts is merely preparation. True meditation is like the unknowable moment of falling asleep, a natural arrival. The dream state reveals one's personal reality, which can be consciously mastered through training. Maintaining a single technique is essential, as changing methods creates disturbance. The guided practice is concentration, a step toward the distant goal of spontaneous meditation.

"Meditation is that which you cannot practice. But it comes from itself."

"The dream is your reality."

Oṃ Śāntiḥ, Śāntiḥ, Śāntiḥ. Śrī Dīp Nārāyaṇa Bhagavān Kī Jaya, Śrī Dīp Devīśvara Mahādeva Kī Jaya, Satguru Svāmī Madhavānandajī Bhagavān Kī Jaya. Blessed self, all dears, welcome. It is a very beautiful evening, and we have many subjects. We know that we all have different meanings, and it should be so. But the soul, the jīva, is the same. To know, and how we should know. There are many different situations and many choices. Every human has their individual choice. We have to come to our self-destination. I told before that in the evening, at the time of sunset, the bird comes to the nest. So we have different obligations, we have duty, and we are working. We have friends, we have different professions, but finally, when we come home, we should all come into one house as one family. Then we need to be there in that one house as a single family. One should not separate. Though you will separate, it will not be something different. From birth, or even from the mother’s womb. Mother is talking with the embryo. And when the father comes to know, he is also very happy and talking. But the jīva, the soul, is searching for the destination. To oneness, to God. God is within us, in each and every creature. There is the light of God which we spoke of this morning and yesterday. The best way is that when you come home, after being with your family members and all, you come to thyself, and that’s called meditation. Meditation is that which you cannot practice. But it comes from itself. If you are doing the meditation and making some kind of examples or some subject, though you are thinking sometimes about the trees, the ocean, or sunset or sunrise, this is not meditation. This is just trying to concentrate. According to yoga, it’s called Yama and Niyama, Āsana, Prāṇāyāma, Pratyāhāra, Dhāraṇā, and Samādhi. Samādhi is different. Dhāraṇā is like meditation, but what does that mean? That we should become one with ourselves. When you meditate, you are one with thyself. But if someone talks to you, then it is different. Therefore, we should know that we just try, that’s all. It’s a concentration, awareness. First, become aware, then take your intellect to what you are doing. But you should know what I want to know. It is said that meditation is like sleeping. When we are tired, we go to sleep. We just lie down, have a pillow, make ourselves comfortable, and close our eyes. Sleep will come, but if you are telling, "Now I will sleep, I should sleep. I have to sleep on the left or the right? No, right is not good. I will sleep left. I have to go tomorrow early morning, so did I pack my luggage?" etc., etc. Then you cannot sleep. Similarly, this person who was asking the question, "What is meditation? How do you do it?" Definitely, every teacher has different ideas. So, the needs, your sleep, you have to bring. So rest is called concentration, that you are concentrating; it is not meditation. So meditation is the way to the Self, but don’t change every day. That’s called your vṛtti. The vṛtti means your thoughts. And so, when you have thoughts, you can’t meditate. There was one man meditating in the park, meditating alone. So one man came for walking in the park, so he was walking, walking in the park for two hours, but he sees one man, he is sitting there, eyes are closed, sitting. That man who was walking in the park, he sees that man and he was thinking, this man... He must be sad. He is very sad. He is not working, not walking. Definitely, he is very sad. He feels lonely. He has no one. He is lonely. So, the person who was walking in the park thought, "I should go to that man and keep him company, make him, make him." So he went there and he said, "Meditation." Again he said, then he said, "Hello, friend." He said, "Yes, please." He said, "Well, I came to you because I thought that you are unhappy. So I thought you were lonely, so I wanted to come to you and keep you a little company." So he said, "Yes, friend, I was one with myself, but since you are here, now I am lonely." Because now I am not anymore with myself, so I am lonely. Similarly, meditation is not easy. You have to concentrate and become one with thyself. And it’s not easy if you want to meditate. When you sit for meditation, I have said, "I will meditate, I will not think." After two minutes, I will not think. So, it is said, but you are thinking now that I will not think. This is only concentration. It is not a meditation. It’s very difficult, but in one way, it’s very easy. You just sleep, and you go to your other lokas, the dreams. Now, the dream, that is also disturbing. So, are you one with thyself? First, do you know when you sleep? It means you want to sleep. When to the bed? But you don’t know when the sleep came. When did you cross the border? Now I am awakened, and I go to sleep. So, do you know in which second you went to sleep? So, it means you don’t know, so you are still alone in your thoughts. So, first know how to sleep; otherwise, it’s only concentration. So, of course, you are concentrating, driving your car, but you have all the four directions. The front vision, the side, and the back. The driver should be alert to all four directions, but at the same time, steering the car, also knowing if the diesel is enough and the oil is enough, etc., etc. So you are alert. So first become alert, but you can only relax when the car stops. So you have to stop your car. So, you have to stop all your, what we call, the different kinds of thoughts. That’s because you have so much disturbance in your body. So, come to oneness. It’s okay. You said, "I know when I slept." It’s not easy when you will see that I’m not sleeping. Then your concentration goes in another direction, so learn how to sleep. And when did you sleep? It is like seconds. And that is the meditation. But when you go to sleep, you become unconscious. You are dividing, and what is happening? Immediately. But you don’t know. When you are going, the dream. So you are sleeping here in Cherkasy, but you have shopping in Kyiv. But you are sleeping here, so how did you wake there? And how will it quickly come back? And dream. So you came there to your friend. And you come to a friend’s house, you knock on the door, your friend is not there, you write a message, and you go to a restaurant. So now, are you in the restaurant, or are you sleeping? Or are you awakened? So, that is, and how quickly you can come from there to here. Without knowing any time, you are immediately here. And it’s very interesting. In one room, four people are sleeping. And all four have different dreams, and you are not crossing the dreams. So, how will you do? You cannot coordinate with each other. Similarly, other meditations are different. My dream is my dream, and you are beside me sleeping. It’s your dream. So what is the dream? The dream is your reality. It is your reality, and the dream is so true, so you are dreaming everything inside, and sometimes you are talking. So, like this, this is the meditation, so one goes in that direction in the meditation. And so, finally, you will see all different yogīs have different destinations. So, first you must pray that you can relax. That you know the dream. How did you fall into the dream? Sorry, don’t sleep. And you were waiting that I will see, I will sleep, I want to sleep. I see the watch. I will sleep. You are not sleeping. I will sleep. Gone. So, how did you fall into sleep? That is the first step of your meditation, and then the dreams. Dream is your reality. You will dream from your grandfather. Or you dream of your great-grandmother, or you will dream of a cat that was there when you were little, or you had a horse. So it is your dream; it’s a reality. Now, how can you master your dream? Let’s do the training until I come next year. So, when you have a nice dream, a very nice dream, now you open your eyes, and then close your eyes. And now, dream this. Continue the same dream. Next day, or after a long time from training, you see your dream. You wake up, go to the bathroom, come back, sleep, and have the same dream. Then, on the third level, you get up, take your clothes, warm up, take your shoes, and go outside for a walk. Again, come back and put your clothes away. And the dream was the same. So there was one lady in the Czech Republic. And so, in my training of these dreams, she was very careful and learning. So, in her coat, a beautiful button fell and was lost somewhere. And she said, "I lost my good button. There is no button in the coat." And she sleeps. But thinking, "My button, button..." and she got up, half conscious, half asleep. She’s walking around the house block, and she found a button. She came and put the button on the coat. And she sleeps. She doesn’t know. But in the morning, when she woke up, the button was on the coat. She knew, "I am doing consciously." At that time, you are at the highest level of consciousness in meditation. So, you have to concentrate on yourself; otherwise, every day, different this and different that, and you are lost in it. So, that lady held out a button and put it on the coat. So, therefore, the dream is your reality, and sometimes you don’t know. There are some dreams mixed, so that is many different kinds of dreams; it’s called all the different problems of the everyday. So, giving too many instructions for the meditation, you create more disturbances. So always do the same techniques of meditation. And that we have our self-inquiry meditation. So we will do a little meditation now, but I will tell you, this is only concentration. Meditation is very far. That will, you will do it. You should know that you sleep, and I am sleeping beside you, but it is your dream, and my dream is different. But others, what we have, we are trying to concentrate, okay? Okay, so make yourself comfortable. Relax. Place your hands on your thighs, on your knees. Look around this room, see whatever you want to see, then close your eyes. Do not open your eyes, because there will be nothing new in this room. So don’t be restless. Just take that object for your meditation. Make yourself comfortable. Adjust your body comfortably, from the toes till the top of the head, and from the top of the head till the toes. Relax. Relax the whole body. Be one with thyself. Your body is motionless, your body is comfortable. You are one with thyself. Relax your elbows, relax your palms, the shoulders, the whole body. Know that your eyes are gently closed, your jaw, don’t bite your teeth, let your tongue be relaxed, feel your breath, natural, gentle breath, and you feel that your stomach on the inhalation is expanding and expanding. At the time of the exhalation, your astral energy, your breath, it is like light out of the body. Emotionlessness of the body. Feel your aura, the light, and the energy a few centimeters out of your body. And bring your awareness to your breath. I know that I am inhaling. And I know that I am exhaling. Just feel the breath. Be one with thyself. Just be one with thyself. Relax. Try to follow your concentration in the navel. From that center point, energy is distributed to the whole body. If you have a mantra, mentally repeat your mantra. Feel the motionlessness of the body. Your body is completely motionless. Relax. Relax. If you want to concentrate on some symbols, then concentrate on Gurudeva. If you want to concentrate on some symbol, then concentrate on Gurudeva. Ārakpurījī, Devpurījī, Prabhujī, or Gurujī. Now, concentrate and imagine in your forehead, Cittākāśa. At the center of thy brows, in the dark space, what you see inside, just observe that. Prostu Spasmini Hayati Satsaṅg. If you want some symbol, then see the tiny candle flame’s light. In a dark, darkish way, a beautiful flame. If not a flame, then a color point, or some light curtains. Gurujī. Now bring your awareness to the whole body. Your breath, movements of the stomach with the breath, your being here. Feel your breath, a deep inhale. Three times Oṃ chanting. Move your palms, move your fingers, close your fist, open your palms, close your fist, and open your palms. Now, fold your palms and rub them. Place your palms on your face, rub them, and move your palms from the forehead. Open your eyes, bend forward, and feel and touch your forehead to the ground. Feel the circulation towards your face muscles, towards your head. Place your hands on the floor, and slowly move your hands and your body up.
