Sri Alakhpuriji and the Himalayas

A spiritual discourse on the sacredness of the Earth and the Himalayas.

"Our Earth is a living planet, a Living Earth. If God incarnates, if God comes on this earth, God performs His miraculous things here."

"That place is indescribable... Between these beautiful, mighty mountains is a beautiful valley where Ālakpurījī is always residing."

Swami Maheshvarananda delivers a talk, venerating the Earth as a living, holy creation and detailing the profound spirituality of the Himalayas. He describes the region as the abode of divine incarnations like Śiva and great Siddhas such as Ālakpurījī, sharing anecdotes from pilgrimages and emphasizing the need for inner purity to experience this divine reality. The discourse concludes with a blessing for the journey.

Oṃ tryambakaṃ yajāmahe sugandhiṃ poṣṭivardhanam. Śānti, śānti... on this earth, our beautiful planet. It is known as a living planet, and there are 8.4 million different creatures. Some have disappeared, but new ones have come. On this planet, there are numerous miraculous things. On this mother earth, there are many holy places. I would say there are no unholy places, so the whole earth is miraculous. Perhaps some people do negative activities, but this is what people are doing, not the earth. The God, Viśvakarmā, designed this earth and all of creation. The ocean, the water—from the ocean comes the earth. It is designed for the balance of this Earth: mountains, rivers, deserts, forests, etc. It has been balanced in such a way that this earth is floating on the ocean. And we humans are trying to destroy the balance of the Earth. We dig many mines in the earth, which damages it. We dig for gold, for precious stones, for different metals, coal, and oil. And what have we not done? Now we are digging tunnels through mountains. We destroy the forests, and now we are also damaging the mountains. In many places, mountains have disappeared. This is due to human thinking—making bridges, highways, and big buildings. All of this comes from the earth. But still, this Mother Earth is balancing. We are in the lap of Mother Earth. Our Earth is not just a planet; a planet is different. Our Earth is a living planet, a Living Earth. If God incarnates, if God comes on this earth, God performs His miraculous things here. And what we call God, they are the great, great saints. All becomes one. One drop of water makes a creek flow, and from the creek into a river, it merges again into the ocean. Similarly, our Jīvātmā one day merges into the Paramātmā. On this earth, the most holy mountain is known as the Himalayas. The Himalayas are one of the youngest mountains, though of course they are many, many centuries old. There are many great siddhas, yogīs, holy saints—whatever we call them—or God itself. Scientists declared a few years ago that the first human was born or appeared in the Himalayas, in the place they call Tibet. In Tibet, there is the Kailāśa Mountain. Kailāśa is the name of Śiva, and it is Śiva's place. Śiva manifested himself for the first time there. That is called Swayambhū. Swayambhū means that no one created him; he manifested himself. What you produce through your body is your Swayambhū. From there, it is called the great. Great saints are still there. One saint said, "Now there is no cave remaining, because all the great saints have occupied all the caves." So the Himalaya said, "I have more place for that." It melted the glaciers, and many caves emerged again. So, the Himalayas are miraculous, and there are many, many great saints. Among the many divine incarnations and saints, from the time of the Satya Yuga, there was Ālakpurījī. In the name of Ālakpurījī, a divine river called Alaknandā is flowing. Many devotees, bhaktas, or great saints were disciples of Ālakpurījī. You can only know this if you go there and meditate, or if you perform anuṣṭhāna, make prayers and saṅkalpas. You will see how many saints are the disciples of Ālakpurījī. They became like Ālakpurījī itself. Meditate in the morning around three to four o'clock, meditate only on Ālakpurījī and our Devpurījīs, and just let it be. If you are lucky, if you have good, pure energy within you, you will have many darśans in your meditation—many visions of those saints. They are the disciples of Ālakpurījī. In the whole Himalayas, there is a vibration of that great Siddha, the great Ālakpurījī. Those who came there received initiation. Once we were about 12–14 people, the next time we were about 70–80 people, and this year we were about 300 plus 100 others who were working for us, and we had about 65 horses. We call them mules—neither horse nor donkey, but they are very strong. They carried our luggage, our food, going and coming. They call them muli. I said, no, no, they are not muli; I gave them the name karma yogīs. They are great karma yogīs. Yes, they carry luggage and everything. You can see and feel that these karma yogīs are inhaling the breath, the energy, the sound from where Ālakpurījī was. Like that, there are many, many yogīs. Some are called bābās, bābājīs. Bābājī is different, but the Siddha is above the Bābājī. Our Dev Ālakpurījī is Śiva. Because he became Śiva, he purified Śiva, he manifested Śiva in himself. And he also made Devapurījī as Śiva. And now I am on the way, so that we will all become Śiva. All through Ālakpurījī's blessings, not my blessings. So with you, I will also be. Yes, that's it. That place is indescribable. When all are sleeping, when all the saṃsāra is sleeping, then you wake up, get up from your bed, and you see no one walking here and there. Then you concentrate on Ālakpurījī's Guffā (cave). There is the beautiful sound of the flowing Alaknandā. On every side, there are high mountains, high hills. Between these beautiful, mighty mountains is a beautiful valley where Ālakpurījī is always residing. They can go anytime, anywhere. Perhaps Ālakpurījī is here sitting and saying, "Ah, Maheśvara, don't talk like that." But you know, when a little child does something, the parents are not angry. So I say to Ālakpurījī, until you make me that, I will always be very naughty. And I will not come alone; I will come with all the bhaktas. Like diamonds, all the stones will become diamonds when sparkling. It awakens within. But when our heart is not pure, our intellect is not pure, our thinking is not pure, our nourishment is not pure, and you are making duality, that is also not good. Then you are nowhere. But when you completely become, you merge into that river. Even water that comes from anywhere will merge into that river, and it will be called the Alaknanda, or the Gaṅgā, or the Yamunā, etc. So whenever we can, we should go there where Ālakpurījī was walking, where Devpurījī was walking. Now they are in the air. Yes, they are only in visions for us. For the last 14 years, our dear Dr. Śānti, Swāmī Śānti, was wandering and wandering in the Himālaya to find our paramparā. It is like this story or something, as in this bhajan: "Mokku kaha tu dhunde bande, me to tere paas me. Pal bhar ke dhundo ke..." O my one, where are you searching for me? I am in you. "Mokko kaha dhundi bandi, me to tere pas me." So, I am with you. "Beled vagyok. Khojogad a pal bar me." Within no time, I will see you. You will see me, but purity is required. So many people sitting here also have the blink. Talking about me is good, and talking about her is very bad, and about her texture is very good, and about him is very bad. This kind of person is split. So, lemon will always curdle the milk; it will spoil it. So we, with the Self, must become one. You are not a Hungarian. If you are Hungarian, okay, and that Hungarian also is not all. They are in the puszta, the Puszta, and there are horses. Only the Puszta Hungarians can ride two horses by themselves—one leg on this horse and one leg on that horse. Yes, Hungarians have long legs. Where the horse goes like this, like this, no one can do this. Even what you call in Mexico, the cowboys, they also cannot ride like this. So this is the specialty of the Hungarian. Well, anyhow, therefore, no one can purify your inner self. Your mind, what you are thinking, nobody knows. Sometimes, what they call spies—they are thinking, drinking coffee, and this and that, very nice, laughing and this—but constantly have their ears and their eyes on the Vivek Purīs. And when he will go away, they will also very quickly make them move somewhere. So we don't know what we are thinking. In some ways, it is good because your thinking is hidden, which is very good. But if we knew all that you are thinking and what I am thinking, it would be a little bit difficult. So we have to purify ourselves with our eating, with our sleeping, with our behaviors, with our relations, etc. Don't go to a person who doesn't like you, and don't go to another one who likes that. So you are mixing these qualities, and what happens? With lemon and milk, what happens then? Neither lemon nor milk remains. What remains? Paneer. So you remain only paneer when you are dwelling with two people. That's it. So, Siddhas are great. Let's go to Ālakpurījī's kingdom. There are kilometers and kilometers long glaciers, called the Ālakpurī glaciers. Now, I think 60% of the glaciers have melted, but it is very long, and the other side goes very far. Now it is the Tibet or China border. From there, it is a straight walking path to Mount Kailāśa. So Kailāśa, Badrinātha, Kedāranātha, all of these, the Kuberas, the Svargārohiṇīs, all are there in the Himalayas. The Himalaya is very long, but this part where Ālakpurījī is there is very divine. So let's go there. But you have to think positive. Still, I see there is someone twisting inside. You know the stone and iron? You know, coming, sparkling. Yes. So, there are here. I see here, yeah. They are looking down now. Don't look down, look here, please. What is he saying? I will look at the side, okay? Anyhow, let's see. Let's go on our journey to the Himalayas today with us, through our webcast. Dīp Nand Bhagavān Kī, Ālak Purījī Mahādev, Devādhi Dev, Devīśwar Mahādev, Dīp Nand Bhagavān Kī, Satguru Swāmī Madhvānandyā Bhagavān. Oṃ Śānti.
