The ancient science of Yoga

A spiritual discourse on the science of yoga, human consciousness, and self-realization.

"Yoga is a science of body, mind, and soul. It is the science of the human body."

"Yoga is the best for your life. You can do it for your health, for concentration, for some diseases, for happiness—many things."

A spiritual teacher addresses an audience, explaining yoga as a holistic science for human development. He discusses the uniqueness of human consciousness, tells a parable about faith and surrender to God, and outlines the Vedic concept of creation. The talk delves into yogic anatomy, including the 72,000 nerves, the three primary nāḍīs (Iḍā, Piṅgalā, Suṣumṇā), and the journey of the Kuṇḍalinī energy through the cakras. He clarifies misconceptions about Haṭha Yoga, demonstrates simple energy and circulation exercises for the hands, and encourages integrating practice into daily life.

Yoga is a science of body, mind, and soul. It is the science of the human body. As some from Europe say, "Health is not everything, but everything is nothing without health." To enjoy our life—meaning to be comfortable, relaxed, with no tensions or stress—and to have the feelings, and to know that I am human. If you believe in God, it's okay. If you don't believe in God, it's okay. But we know as humans. Other creatures do not know. They know they live. They have fear, and they have food. That's all. They have love. They have children. All is good. But we, as humans, we know that we are human, and we feel happiness, good health, learning, knowledge, everything. We feel what is mercy. We feel what is goodness to be with someone good. We feel that someone is not good for us, so we have both ways. Whatever we do, any kind of movement, even that will be counted in our consciousness, and one day we will know what it was there. If you believe there is a sin. Or perhaps we believe about the sin now with this. We can say that animals do not get into that sin or abuse, but we are in it. Other creatures go through that destiny; it does not matter from what kind of destiny it is. But we humans have given freedom to ourselves. Therefore, God gave us everything, and He said, "I gave you everything, and you know everything." So, now you know your path, where you will go. But if you need my help, I will be there. We said about God, so if you ask me to be honest, I will say I have not seen God. Though I am a God devotee, I know everything I am talking about, it is that, but still I didn't see. Maybe your country is so big, so God has more peace in this country. You are only on the coast. When we look from the satellite at night, there is only one country which is completely dark. A little on the coast is only light, no? So it means peaceful. Animals are peaceful. God is here, also peaceful on anything ever. So, how should we know God? But we feel God, we have God. How do we realize that? And we are the children of God, all creatures. So, when we are children of God, then God is within us. Everything is there. There is one story, some nice story. People like to see, sometimes, about God. I want to talk about this cakras and kuṇḍalinī, you know. But I, the people who know about cakra and kuṇḍalinī, they will like to listen a little more. But my brothers, this they told me that they didn't practice yoga very long, so I would like to make them more clear. So that is a subject for you to be my good friend. So the story is between a believer and a non-believer. That non-believer, the people who don't believe in God, but you... We will see that mostly they are very nice people. They are very helpful. Anytime you need some help, these atheists, they will come and help you. So don't say that non-believers are not good people. We don't say this. Sometimes people are fighting: my religion, your religion, their religion. No, so there is more confusion, but those who don't believe anything, he or she is very clean for helping. Maybe they believe in God, but not that kind of God which we are thinking. So people said so. Stories about that one, he said, at least, but he's, he's, uh, what we call when you like something very much, you like it, it's your hobby, your hobby. And the hobby of this person is climbing on the rocks. Why not? Everyone has something. So he's going to the Himālayas, high mountains about six thousand meters, now have 1,700 meters still left. He was climbing or holding onto the rock. Suddenly, what happens? He lost his legs or his feet from the rock. So he's hanging here, he's going there or this. He can't touch his, even the toes. When someone has a difficult situation, then maybe someone who doesn't believe will think that God, as a god, may be so he looked down, no more chance. There is no—let's think, people are talking about God, so let us try if there is a God. So, God, if you are believing here, or if you are existing here, and I know that Indians are talking a lot about God, and the Himālaya is a holy mountain, so God, if you are there, please help me. And God, if you will appear and help me, then really, I will... trust in you, and I will give all my belongings to you, and I will go everywhere and say, "There's a God, there's a God." So please, God, if you can... I don't know why God comes in such a situation. Otherwise, we are worshipping, God is not coming. He is from... from a far distance, He is taking care of us, and it's okay. On the other side of the rock, God appears. And that man, the climber, he said, "Hi, guy, are you God?" He said, "Yes." "Then, please, can you help me?" He said, "Yes, I will help you. Do you believe in me?" God said. He said, "Yes, I believe in you." "So will you really believe in me?" "Yes, I believe, but please, my fingers and my hands are burning already." God said, "Don't worry." He said, "What do you mean, 'don't worry'? I am suffering." He said, "That I know." Okay, God asked him, "Do you believe in me?" He said, "Yes." "Will you do everything I ask you?" He said, "Yes." "Then are you sure you believe in me? You will do whatever I tell you?" He said, "Yes, everything." So God said, "My son, then release your hands." And that man said, "I am not so stupid like you." He said, "Now I know that you don't believe in me." So, till where we come to that point, have you the trust in it or not? And so the humans are happy with everything, but a certain situation comes. That is our test, that we are in confidence with your friends, your colleagues, your partners, your parents, or others. What is the last point? Many friends, one day we will not be there. So this is how the humans are in that situation. There is a yes, and there is a no, and this is the one point in the human. Okay, second, in creation, this earth, there is water, earth, and a space that different creatures are existing, living in water, on the earth, and in the space flying, that we have written in some holy scriptures, in Vedas. That's all I'll tell you. That ask me, "Are you sure?" I'm not sure. But I trust, I believe, that it is said in many, many ages from the holy books, and from this, there are 8.4 million different creatures on this globe. 8.4 million. Now, please don't ask me, "Did you count?" I cannot. Can you count? No. So, therefore, we have to believe you are near the beach. You know, in the water, how many creatures are there? How many? Different kinds. We know the water, and now we are filtering water very fine. There is also some living, and still water itself is alive. So, 8.4 million different creatures, and from there, one is the human. One is a human. All are going through different situations, but now the human is here to become as itself, to know that I am the Self. You can say that I am God, but the quality is not there. We have to clean. We have to clean something still. So our consciousness, our different feelings, etc., etc., so we are human in that way. We have immense fear, anger, hate, jealousy, etc. We have great love, happiness, joy, confidence, everything. We have both sides, both with us. This is the point. Now, a very little glimpse of this I will tell you. The cakras appeared. How did it come? That's a miracle. Did it fly? Thank you. It is that there is a thing called the Vedas, the scriptures or the holy literatures, which are called the Vedas. Maybe you know what the Veda is, or maybe you don't know. Why not? You don't know. The Vedas are very, very old, and all that is written in the Vedas—everything written in the Vedas in the Sanskrit language—is about seven thousand years old, which was written, but the knowing is from ages. And there was first it was written, the literature about how many lakhs, what we... Said two and a half lakh, they count one lakh, ten hundred thousand is one lakh, so like this we can say 250,000 years, and there was the first literature written in the Sanskrit language. And that literature is existing, and that is called that Vālmīki Ṛṣi Yogī, you can say Yogī. Vālmīki Ṛṣi wrote this holy book called Rāmāyaṇa. There are twenty-four incarnations of God, and God, we call in every age, appears as God, or when there is a very, very terrible situation. So it's called Nimitta God and Nitya God. Nimit is for this purpose, and Nitya is the holy sense. So now I can tell you, do you want to be holy? Yeah, this is a chance, okay? If you want to become holy, don't run away. It's okay, but would you like to be a heavy, holy? Yes. But you know, you are holy. You are human. Everything, but only we have different qualities, different, that we still cannot be holy. But we are like a holy. So the god Rāma, before Kṛṣṇa, and that was written, this Rāmāyaṇa, book is called Rāmāyaṇa, you can buy anywhere, and written very, very best. He wrote completely in the Sanskrit language, and the Sanskrit language is nearly the mother of all languages. Chapter finished. I turned the chapter. The Vedas, speaking, or it was, when it was not written, that is called Śruti and Smṛti. These are two words. What is Śruti and Smṛti? So, the Śruti, you know what I am talking about, and you are listening. That's all. You speak to this little child, and this child is listening to us. And so we heard, we heard from the master. Master begins from the mother first. God is the mother, if you believe or not, but it is. First is called mother, then the father, then etc. So, "Mātṛ Devo Bhava, Mātṛ Devo Bhava." The mother is the first God. Then Pitṛ Devo Bhava, then comes the father. Chapter finished. So, Śruti, I am talking and you are listening. Now, after that, the second point is called the Smṛti. And Smṛti is the memory. So at that time, they had such a memory—unbelievable, unbelievable. And now we are in this time, we have science, we have learned many things, very great things, but unfortunately we lost our memory. Here you are sitting, very great people. Do you, maybe—it is stupid that I am asking—but maybe, is there here someone who knows 50 telephone numbers by memory without looking anywhere? Fifty? Because I have heard that Australians, they are very, very smart, so when we don't know... 50, 25, that could be, but we have with us, we have that memory with us. So if it's not here, then I have here, okay? You open your telephone number, and I'm keeping with me. So our memory is not here, and therefore śruti, smṛti, śrotah. Śrotah is the... Speaking so that Vedas was then after they wrote it, and this is a big subject for me, but I give you only the seeds on it. That time, in that time, the whole Europe was under snow or ice, half, more than half. The whole Himālaya was in the glaciers. So and so and... So now, in that Vedas, what we are saying? There is a written one word, very nice: "I am only one, and now I will multiply." Who said? Where it is? How it will be? When you are only the one, etc.? The creation, which is what we call 8.4 millions and different creatures, are not anymore. Existing on this earth, but the new came out different, so it's more or less all is there. But at that time, this point—what Vedas, the ṛṣis, yogīs—they go through their meditations long. There it is said, there is only the One word called śūnyakāś, śūnya, an empty space, empty space, śūnya, void, nothing, no one is there, nothing. That is called the space, śūnyakāś, emptiness. Anything, how can we describe that? Can we go and approach it? No. And who can approach? There's no one. One, but still it is said, for example, horizon. In Australia, there's a lot of horizons, yes. Now you want to go to touch the horizon. I couldn't, even with an aeroplane, I couldn't reach the horizon. So what is the horizon? The answer is, only for can be horizon is. That is as far as you go. That far is more for others. Far as far as you come close, that is more far. So that is a space nowhere, there nowhere and there. I will be making it very short. From these three comes sound. This sound now, the creation is in our earth. On our body, on our anything, so the first is the sound. And sound, it is said, this resonance is the supreme. So what you call God, whatever you call it, is only that resonance, nothing. There from this resonance, coming the light, fire, elements, etc., etc., beginning. And that is called Śiva. Śiva has no father, no mother, no brother, no sisters. He himself manifests through these five elements: the space, fire, air, water, and earth. From this, that is the whole Śiva. And therefore, how should we know the form of Śiva, so there is no form of Śiva. Therefore, we are worshiping the Śiva liṅgam, and the Śiva liṅgam means the entire All is there. I am within, and I am out. I am there. That is this. We are coming slowly, slowly, yeah? The human body. So I put it on it, little, little thoughts from this all. Now, the Kuṇḍalinī is coming. There is one book that the Australian always takes away. We have the Yoga in Daily Life book, and if you read that book, you will have half of the Vedas in your brain. So, out of 8.4 million humans, and now in the humans, now I am coming to the science, or from the view of the yoga. I will talk about the human body. The doctors' view of the doctors is different. Maybe sometimes doctors don't believe this, and yogīs don't believe that. That is always like that. So, in our body, we have 72,000 nerve systems, and each... each nerve is bringing that energy, life, to keep this human form, the body. The nerves, as you know, are like one seed that grows, comes the two leaves, then grows further, and there's a trunk of the body, and then there's lots and lots of branches, and many, many roots. So these are all, so we have between our body and that the 72,000 nerves. After that, these nerves, one nerve again splitting and becoming two pieces, and everywhere where there is spreading, there is an energy center. You know better about this Chinese health, what is called with the needles. Acupressure and acupuncture. So when this needle, we want to touch our health, and there is a screen. And when we touch this needle on the screen, the needle is moving. If it's only moving a little bit, it means we didn't come to the right point. Why? Because we did not meet this energy, what they call the meridian. Similarly, where this meridian is, means there is something going, growing. Now, I am coming to the very simple point. In India, when marriage is there, then the boy and the girl, they are making a knot from their cloth. Many people don't know, they are only doing. They don't know why. Someone might think that he is tying his wife and pulling her. Can be, but it is not, but the knot is that the human mind, or human, animals, and vegetations, all have the same system. So where there is a knot on the branch or on the grass, there comes new leaves or a new branch. Similarly, in our... Oh, you were in Austria? Okay, this is that book. Something, so each point in the body, each nerve, so one nerve becomes like a letter. What you call the "Y"? The "Y" down one, then comes the branches, then becomes two, so one, two, three, and four. There are four points on the very tiny nerve, and this is like that 72,000 nerves. And from this, we believe, and we know, everyone knows, there are three nerves which are in our brain, coming from and balancing our entire body. Iḍā, Piṅgalā, Suṣumṇā, these are the three names of these nāḍīs. When someone has a hemorrhage in the brain, then from this part, we are paralyzed. Now, for that, the doctor will give us some medicine. The doctor will help us, and we will relax, and so on. Yogic treatment is different, and doctors are different. So this yogic treatment will 100% make you completely healthy again. Otherwise, maybe a little bit can still remain mistaken. And that is coming, the prāṇāyāma. Prāṇa. Prāṇa means life. But this prāṇāyāma means the oxygen, the breath. And so we are practicing prāṇāyāma. Inhale through the left and exhale through the left. 20 minutes, then relax. After half an hour, again. So this is the left hemisphere, and this is the right hemisphere. From this, the brain centers, according to yoga, and what you call these, the petu-trees, glands, etc., are purified. So this prāṇa is purifying again and balancing in both hemispheres. It is 100% if it happens. Come to the yoga, learn prāṇāyāma, but not with a heavy, very gentle, very gentle. Otherwise, you can again damage these nerves. So yogic science begins from here. Yes, that is the best or good. Now, then, there is one other nerve which is very strong. And that's like the trunk of the tree, the trunk of the tree. And that Nāḍī we call Vajra Nāḍī. Vajra Nāḍī. Vajra means iron, like iron. And that is the strongest, which is keeping our whole body balanced. And that begins from the big toe and second toe, in the middle, on the end. So when you have a problem with your spinal column, also with your, what you call, the sciatic, or this one, press here, press this is the point. Immediately you will feel it in your body, and it will help, definitely it will help you. So these are the nerves, many, many nerves, but I think two we have today. That picture we want to show, the our cakras, so this is only, you cannot see completely, but this one have is there, not seventy-two thousand now, but they are major, major point, and, you know, yes, this is that. And from here, we go more to our cakras. And this one is the body, and here is a major cakra, a major point in this body that is very, very important. And when you are further concentrating and practicing, and you have interest... and you will practice, then you will see all centers of your body and energies, and all this in the nerves. This is the evidence of the science of yoga in this. So I'm not talking about God, but God is here. And where is that here? You are here in your heart, so this is a very, very powerful point. You see how every cakra, centers, cakra means we are calling the centers, so when you practice, you eat organic. When I came in 1982, Australia... no one was talking about organic because everything was organic. That time was one kind of diet. People are talking, acro—what do you call this? Macrobiotic. All were eating macrobiotic, macrobiotic, this is very. And then after, this all was soya. And from soya, and then it is said, till 40 kilometers, what is grown, that is a healthy restaurant. Now, today, not even your milk is organic. If you have no milk from a cow, or this you can't drink, and I believe and I hope that very soon your scientists will say, "Don't feed your child with breast feeding." Yes, they can do everything. Then what will you do? Come to me, okay? In India, there is more, all pesticides, but in our yoga centers, there will be perfect, very good, healthy. So, I don't know, I don't know, I cannot say. Please, is your government? I cannot tell anything, but it is not good. You don't know what is mixed in the milk. You don't know what. Every cow is not ill. Every cow is healthy and good. But, well, this is other politics or whatever. So, you see that? Where is that big picture? Okay. Thank you. All right. So you can give me this. Thank you. I will, time to time. So, the 72,000 points of the nerves are the cakras. So all is like that net, completely the net in it. And how? To make it more clear, if a tiny mosquito or an ant bites us or stings us in our little toe, this small toe, immediately, we hear a message. So the whole network in the body, and this is our energy, everything. Now, again, I am going to the second other point. Now, in a human body, the first centers, cakras, is on our foot sole, on the foot sole. If every day, if you can go on the earth barefoot for 10 minutes or half an hour, work. With the earth in your garden, or this and that, it will be very good for your health, very, very. And there are these cakras which we have, not this, but different, like these cakras on the whole foot, salt till our ankle joints, from the ankle joint. From here till the knee, it's called the vegetation cakras. From the knee till the hip joints is animal energy, animal cakra, animal feelings. And then, from the spine down till the thorax, these are human cakras, and from this... coming between the divine God is from the vocal cord till our point between the eyebrows. Then from here, this is a yoga. Here you can say now is yoga. Yoga. So there are two petals on this cakra. Do we have somewhere? Thank you. Oh, thank you. You are great. This is one cakra. But he brought two complications. I wanted to have you only two, but it is very much. All is beautiful, beautiful. And from here, it goes up to the Sahasrāra Cakra, the whole of our brain, the human brain, there is the divinity, there is a great. Now, if we can awaken and purify all these centers, then we can get this third eye opening. The third eye is here, and this third eye's opening here means not that it will open, okay? No, it will remain as it is. But there is inside, when you close your eyes in meditation, you see the whole universe above this. That is called kuṇḍalinī. So, kuṇḍ means like a water well, not a water pond. It is a water pond, and in this water pond is your kind of energy there. So, like these words, here you will awaken all your centers from Mūlādhāra till Svādhiṣṭhāna. It is a science of the body, mind, and consciousness, so there is yoga. So this here, what Jasarājī was showing us, is that Ājñā Cakra. So, this left hemisphere, right hemisphere. These are two points, and there is coming Ha and Tha, Sanskrit words. Ha is our whole nerve system, balancing everything. That is the right side. This is consciousness. Always be alert, aware, clear. So the left is moon and the right is sun. But it's called Ha and Tha. Hatha, it becomes Hatha. What is a Hatha now? Subject comes that, and that's called Haṭha Yoga. Now you slow, not Slovakian, Australian, Australians, Australian 99.9, Australian still in the confusion. It takes so many years, I'm coming, but again they go wrong side. They all said 99.9 is something not good, and that's why they didn't, Kuṇḍalinī didn't bend up. So they are saying that Haṭha Yoga, and everyone will say, "I want to go to your Haṭha Yoga, please. I want to go to Haṭha Yoga." Every my centers in Sunshine Coast, Gold Coast, and in Brisbane, in Sydney, everywhere, yoga and daily life, many, many centers. But the people ask, "Have you yoga, uh, heart yoga class?" And when I will tell you about is the heart yoga, you will say, "No, no, I don't want this?" So, I don't know who gave this in our mind. Always it is like, "Heart yoga, heart yoga." It is a completely different cleaning of the whole body, whole nerves, everything. Drinking lots of water or this and that is a completely different system, and you want to have a posture, and posture is a rāja yoga. Posture is a rāja yoga, not a haṭha yoga. So therefore, and this is another science. So yoga is a lot, and a lot of knowledge inside. A human can realize itself: who am I? I spoke of Kuṇḍalinī, I did not speak to you. I only gave you the glimpse, that's all. Only this one cakra is at the bottom end of the spinal column, and there is so much hidden energy. You should awaken that energy. There is a glance. Open flow energy, let's come until we come here. That is a very hard, and then on the top, we call symbolically like a Kailāśa mountain in India, in China. So, maybe did somebody climb there? Someone, yes. I was there always, you see. Whenever I look, there I am in the top. This is that Mount Kailāś, very holy. So, my dear, I gave you only one, one... Now, where we are, we don't know, and that's the great thing. So, yoga is the best for your life. You can do it for your health, for concentration, for some diseases, for happiness—many things. Many, many branches of yoga. Yoga is the... Life is yoga, and so we have what we call our yoga system, Yoga in Daily Life. And whenever I come here, the Australians always get confused. I don't know, no one goes straightly. I am coming back, then I give them Haṭha Yoga, okay, very good. This is not Haṭha Yoga. I give them good āsanas. In one week, you are in six times all program placed, so you are mostly doing something, stretching your body and run up and good. And this then Haṭha Yoga, that's also better than nothing, but if you want to practice that... yoga, and know it is everything in your hands, not in my hand. You have in your hands, you have so much energy. So much energy. How much energy you have in your hands, do you know? We try to practice. Okay, yes, come on, sit. There are two techniques: how the yoga postures react in our body, how if you do the proper postures with breath and concentration. So now, look at your left hand, the color of your left hand. Everything is good now. Thumb inside, close the fist, and strong. Strong, and now with the right hand, hold your wrist tight. Handle up like this. Don't release your right hand, and now slowly only open your palm and look to your palm and the tip of the fingers. Everything, just look on that, and how you... feel, then just release your hand. Yes, different with between two hands. Let's go to the right one, otherwise right will be whole night. So, hold it, and with the hold with the left hand, the wrist strong, and open your palm and look at the color of the palm, the tip of the fingers, and now look to the tip of the fingers and how quickly the blood... we run, we know everyone release. Now, this is a kind of therapy. When you have problems with hands, or this—we are always trying, typing something, and you have a problem with this—do this two, three times a day. You will have... good feeling in your hands, this is the number one. Now, number two: the same energy, it was only here. Now, the second energy, what we can, in some way, we can get some healing ourself, our some muscles, or somewhere we were injured. Somewhere, how much energy is streaming from our body? In our hands, hold hands placed like this. Already, blood circulation is moving down, and we feel more. And now, move slowly like this. Is there not like needles moving in the palms? If you go like this. Because we evoke the energy in our palms. Now we will do a little, little more stronger. So fold your hands. Now rub your palms until they become very hot. And hold that. It's going like needles. Yes, so far, going wow. So we can do something like, and we have a headache, then bring your hands like here. Just hold this energy like this, don't touch. If you touch, it's gone. We come back, and now we close the fist, thumbs inside, and look where the energy is. Yes, it will, and so these are only techniques for blood circulation for our joints of the body, and if you feel not good in your hands or your wrist, your palm, everything, you can help yourself, so that is how we can do something. As a yogī, you do it at your home and take a little time for you. Don't say that I have no time. And if you don't have the time, I give you today the time, and it's good. I will give you the time. We have 24 hours. 24 hours.... Eight hours sleeping deep. Who sleeps eight hours every day? But still, I give you the eight hours: eight hours working. Who will work eight hours in the company? If yes, that company will go up. So, eight hours. But still, I give you the working eight hours. Eight hours remained. When you go from here to Singapore, flying, eight hours. How many times do we look at the watch? How many? We sit, oh, looking there, eight hours. Okay. One hour going for shopping. Every day, who is shopping for one hour? Women like to go shopping, but the husband doesn't allow it. Husband said, "Why are you buying every day?" And still you have shopping, everything. Cooking, eating, cleaning, families. If you cook every day at home, your economy will go up. If you go to restaurants all the time, your economy will go down. Eat, cook, good at home, two and a half hours, families with you, all. So I am very happy. And one hour for walking, talking, telephoning, that's also. Rest of the time, what are you doing? And so, what remains is two and a half hours; practice your yoga. It means, in one year, how many days? Three hundred, sixty-five, in one, how many days? So, in one year, how many yoga, how many hours? Next life? Not next life, the next time when I come, who will look more healthy and the best? And so I wish that you give me also the time. So yoga is a life. Yoga is something great. It doesn't cost you anything. Except you go to the yoga center for teaching, they will ask you for money. But we can have one day of free yoga. That's a good idea, so for those who have no money, for them, free yoga. So, my dear ones, I think I gave you the glimpse of yogas and kriyā yoga. Our Kuṇḍalinī Yoga, that is something great, and next time we will come more. Thank you for listening. God bless you.
