The Purpose of Human Life

A spiritual discourse on chakras, consciousness, and modern life.

"Chakra means centers. In a particular place within us, there are these centers—something like a very tiny point, akin to the tip of a needle. Within that point, everything exists."

"Our consciousness is very pure and gentle at that time. Waking up to meditate at that pure time allows us to achieve our spiritual or other goals most effectively."

The speaker explains the symbolism of the lotus flower and its connection to the body's chakras and the ideal time for spiritual practice (Brahma Muhurta). He expands the discussion to critique modern food production and chemicals, linking physical health to spiritual vitality. The talk covers the nature of the soul, karma, and the ultimate goal of consciousness merging with the cosmic self, weaving in personal anecdotes and practical suggestions.

Chakra means centers. In a particular place within us, there are these centers—something like a very tiny point, akin to the tip of a needle. Within that point, everything exists; we are inside it. We call our chakras lotuses. In our Indian mythology, the king of all flowers is the lotus. The lotus represents many qualities and things. It grows in muddy water, not in pure water. We see in parks, in ponds with undrinkable water, these lotus flowers emerge. They rise to the water's surface, with their petals and leaves lying upon it. This is to receive energy, provide shade, and protect the plant beautifully. The bud opens in the early morning, during Brahma Muhūrta. Do you know what Brahma Muhūrta is? Brahma Muhūrta is one of the best times in the 24-hour cycle—the hour before sunrise. It is the best time for study and for retaining good memory. If you rise one hour or even half an hour before sunrise to do your sādhanā or learn anything, you will be an excellent student with brilliant memory. You will also experience greater spiritual development, just as the dawn arrives with the sun. Our consciousness is very pure and gentle at that time. Working throughout the day, we encounter many different situations, thoughts, and kinds of "dust." When we sleep, many of these things disappear. Waking up to meditate at that pure time allows us to achieve our spiritual or other goals most effectively. The British, and many others from European countries, also knew this. They used to say, "Early to rise, early to bed." Go to bed early and rise early; you will have prosperity and happiness. Those who wake after sunrise lose many things. We should wake at least 15 to 20 minutes before sunrise and splash water on our bodies before the sun rises. Try it; it will be great. So, the lotus opens. Each petal unfolds with light and energy. Similarly, in our body, each chakra is a lotus. The energy is within us. The different petals bring consciousness into your soul, body, and being, granting you something great. That is why the lotus flower is the king of flowers. Furthermore, as the sun rises and sets, the lotus closes again. We share this nature. When we are young, we open beautifully like these petals. But with age—I am not old, but others are—the petals sometimes lose the strength to close fully, remaining slightly open. That is our old age. This is also the practice of yoga. Yoga has three techniques: first, physical āsanas (postures); second, prāṇāyāma (breath exercises); and third, meditation. If we practice these, we will live very healthily, and our petals will come together again at the end. The food we consume today is not good. People eat chemicals; it is horrible. I think every third or fifth person has cancer. Where does this come from? It wasn't like this before. Our nourishment is poor. We use all chemicals. When there are fruit flies, people cut down trees and spray poison everywhere. Just let the fruit flies be; you can clean the fruit and still get a good yield. We have become chemical beings. Soon, even birth may be given by chemicals. They are already doing it—storing seeds in banks, freezing them for years. It is artificial. Fifty or sixty years ago, no one bought seeds; you had enough at home. Now seeds are manipulated. You buy them, they grow nicely, but if you save them for the next season, they only produce grass, no seeds. This is the situation now. If you want more children, you cannot. It is all affected by these seeds and our food. Maybe one or two children, if you're lucky. The energy to produce more is diminished for both men and women. We have milk for bathing, but clever people took it for use. Then, to prevent this, they added strong masala (spices) to it. If you drink that milk, you will get diarrhea. Cancer is everywhere. Do you care about these chemicals? If some bugs come and go, they will not destroy us completely. But when disease comes, you cannot stop it. There was the issue with chicken feed. In Britain, thousands of cows and birds were burned alive. In China, living chickens were thrown into garbage. What are we doing? If we were organic and healthy, we could fight illness, but now we cannot. It is unfortunate. Still, there are good people living on farms, producing good food. So, chakra, kuṇḍalinī—there are chakras throughout the entire body, from the soles of the feet to the head. Each chakra is like a glowing point, growing. We give these chakras names along the spinal column; it is a beautiful decoration. We depict chakras with lotus petals. But within that one point, how many qualities, powers, good and bad things reside? Everything is there in the human body. Animals may have them too, but they cannot awaken them. The awakening of consciousness into the cosmic is the purpose of human life. We are not born to fight or to engage in hatred. You know what just happened: 70 soldiers were killed on the border of India and Kashmir, Pakistan. We forget nothing. You are born in a country, you become negative towards it, you hate and fight. When you die, you may be born here again. Then will you say it is bad? Why are we humans like this? The chakras in Kuṇḍalinī are for purification—cleansing humans from past karmas, rising above the garbage like a beautiful lotus flower. If you throw dirty water on a lotus, every drop simply falls away, and the lotus remains as it is. In Indian traditions, the lotus is very holy. It also has many Āyurvedic properties; the roots, the whole plant, and the seeds are all used in Āyurveda. These chakras we are discussing—yesterday we were at the Mūlādhāra Cakra. This is one chakra, situated between human consciousness and animal consciousness. From the knees to the hips is the animal chakra, the animal śakti. Above that is the human chakra. Nature follows nature, but humans do not follow nature. Now, humans are completely lost from nature; they do as they please. This is what we call Kaliyuga. Everywhere in the world, people do not follow nature; they do not think about it. In this chakra book, which you have, I will continue day after tomorrow. This book will remain with you. You should learn from it. Read one page three times a day, or once a week, but read carefully to understand its meaning. The symbol of this chakra contains all the qualities, energies, and human attributes. From there up to the middle, between the animal and human border, things are still mixed: humans and animals, but those animals are on higher levels, holy and the best. This is reflected in the chakras. So, what does chakra mean? Chakra means a circle. Kuṇḍalinī is often discussed. Kuṇḍalinī is here; you will see it in the chakra in the form of a snake. Do you know what a snake is? Australia is one of the biggest countries with many snakes everywhere. From a distance, they are beautiful. The snake is a symbol of life and death. It is like a coil, which signifies two things. One coil means death; the second coil is time. And within time, there are three: past, present, and future. The past is our karma, our kismat, our destiny. Whatever we did comes with us; you cannot run away. If you think you will die now, it's not easy—no problem, it is your choice, or your time has come, and we have to go. The five elements will not die either. We say, "Okay, one died," but our ātmā, our soul, does not die. Even the body does not die in that way. The five elements—fire will join fire again, water will join water, earth will merge with soil, air with air, and space with space. They do not go away; they came together for a while. There are many other qualities and processes of how it comes and grows, but again it will come and go. The elements themselves have no karma; water has its qualities, fire has its qualities. Our soul, our life, our individuality, our destiny is with us. It is like a balloon; everything is inside your balloon. You may go to the moon or Jupiter, but you travel as an individual. In reality, we are all one, like an ocean. From the ocean, water evaporates into steam, forms clouds, and then rains. Sometimes it rains heavily. I heard that in Australia, there are many camels. I drove from Adelaide to the rock and did not see a single elephant, camel, or kangaroo—only dead kangaroos and a few cows crossing the road. Perhaps they have cleaned everything. But television shows that every third year, when the rain comes, after a few days everything turns green like a beautiful carpet. Mother Earth does not lose the seeds; she does not destroy them. When the water comes, the seeds sprout. I am speaking of the destiny of ocean water. That water may travel far, but one day it will return to the ocean through steam, creeks, rivers, or underground flows. It may remain somewhere for ages, but finally, it returns. So too will our soul, our divine self. Sooner or later, we will become one with the supreme, with God—whatever you believe, it is there. The second is the cloud. Clouds rise and rain again elsewhere. That is why this city is called the Sunshine Coast—always sunshine. Why? Because God, with heat, takes the water elsewhere but also drops it here. It rises 5,000 to 10,000 meters high and rains back into the ocean. Similarly, one day we will merge with that ocean of cosmic self. But we do not know our karma. Where will we be? Will we fall in the middle of Australia, in a rainforest, or near the ocean? We carry our karma always. We will not carry this body, but our soul with its karma will go. Karma means our actions. Good actions yield good karma; bad actions yield bad karma. We carry it. Is the air conditioning running? Can you turn it off? Thank you. If you have good karma, you will come to Earth. If you have bad karma, you will also come to Earth. We must level it all out, leaving both good and bad here, to be with the Supreme God. How? Our good karma—we should give it to good people. Do good work, help others, give something. As for bad karma, you need not give it to anyone; others will take it through criticism, stealing, or fighting. This is my bad karma. When someone criticizes me, I feel lighter that night. Yes, you can feel it. Someone thinking badly of me is good for me because that person takes on that karma. We call that the rukṣak, a burden of karma from others through backbiting. Backbiting means it hangs on your back. Your soul's body will go, and the karma will go with it, good or bad. So, how can we progress? Within these chakras lies immense wisdom. Each petal—yesterday we spoke about the elephant, didn't we? I spoke of the same in Melbourne, so I don't know if I am repeating myself. We have that elephant, Gaṇeśa. The seat of Gaṇeśa is below the spine, in the Mūlādhāra. Gaṇeśa is divine, balancing everything and lifting us upward. Gaṇeśa has the trunk of an elephant. Have you seen an elephant? If not in person, then in pictures. Have you seen its trunk? How many? One. I have many elephants in India, but I have never seen one with two trunks. Only one. So, what does this mean? We take these as symbols. What do they signify? I will not tell the long story, but it is called the churning of the ocean. Seven trunks of the elephant emerged. Here, seven refers to the sapta dhātu in yoga and Āyurveda. In other terms, these are certain minerals—seven minerals essential for our health. When something is missing, we become ill. Doctors may say, "Everything is okay, but you are missing iron." We try to get iron from chemicals, but that is not healthy. Instead, cook in a real iron pot. Cook your vegetables in it, and within a month, you will get iron naturally. It is also in fruits. This is very important: how to take iron. If you cannot find such a pot, you should try to. It is a nice cooking pot, though it may become a little brown or dark—that is very good. In Europe, people sometimes do this; it is one of the best ways to get iron into your body. Alternatively, take 15 to 20 good apples, not too ripe, a little hard. This is not a lecture, but a suggestion. My doctor told me I was missing iron, and I did this therapy: take one apple and insert three or four iron needles into it. Place it in a cool room. After about 20 days, take one apple. It will be dark and rotten inside. Eat it—it may not taste nice. Then take another apple and reuse the needles. Recycle like this. In one or two months, you will be great, like an iron person. We had an Iron Woman, a minister in England. So, this is very good. The elephant symbolizes this. Saptadhātu, the seven elements, are all in your body; you need them. Similarly, you must study this slowly, each and every detail. You see colors there, and deities seated: Brahma and Lakshmi—sorry, Brahma and Sarasvatī. I made a mistake; I did not get that far. Every day I am only in the Mūlādhāra. When I explain this little part of the chakra, I forget—not forget, but stay on the same point. This is it. How to practice this? It comes through the practice of kuṇḍalinī jāgṛt, the awakening of Shakti, the Shakti path. The Shakti path means awakening that energy. There is much work involved. This is called the cakra. We had meditation this morning, at noon? Tomorrow again, there will be meditation here. I will lead you in meditation, and there is a petal that always brings new energy. So, you will have it tomorrow morning before noon at 10 o'clock Australian time. The webcast will be available. Then you will have experienced two meditations: one today and one tomorrow. Today's was a great meditation. We cannot force meditation; it comes by itself. Otherwise, we talk about different techniques—trees, flowers, fruits, ocean, sunset. We focus outside, but I was guiding you to be within your own space in the universe, within your whole body. It is here, but you expand from here to the sun and beyond. We expand and contract, expand and contract. I can show you now what I mean. Your consciousness, mind, and energies can expand in no time. If I say, "Let's go to the moon," our consciousness is already there. So, we are in between. Our soul, thoughts, and feelings expand and return. Like the ocean, everyone has space. Every branch of a tree finds space to grow. Each of us will expand, purify our karmas, and attain liberation, moving toward the light. Chakras, kuṇḍalinī, and meditation are in this book. Please, you should have it. If you do, very good. If not, you should get it now—not because I am telling you, but because it is our book of knowledge. You can give it to others too. It contains knowledge of your whole body: the anatomy and physiology known to doctors, and the yoga of spiritual consciousness. Thank you. Now we will see a little glimpse of the chakras. Thank you very much, all my dear listeners. Blessings to all bhaktas around the world, in Europe, who are not sleeping but working everywhere. Bless you. Tomorrow, at about 10 o'clock Australian time, the webcast will be there.
