The Value of Spiritual Life and the Guidance of the Master

The value of a human life is realized through spiritual awakening and discipline. Only one who knows diamonds can price them; most humans are selfish and forget their worth in a "use and throw" society. Value is lost when gratitude is forgotten. Spiritual guidance is found in bhajans and short teachings, but one must realize and follow them, not merely know them. The purpose of birth must be solved. A true master repairs a life, making it successful like sandalwood, which brings joy and protection to the entire forest when it grows. One must radiate love and avoid negativity. Spiritual practice requires working within the world, not renouncing it. Meditation is an inner journey using the mantra as a light to explore the body and consciousness. Remain alert to avoid being cheated by negative thoughts and feelings. Purify aggression and always stay awakened.

"Only one who has knowledge about diamonds can price a diamond."

"What you have to do tomorrow, so do it today."

Sanskrit and Hindi terms include: Hara, Hara, Nā, Oṁ, Ko, Ase, Ha, Hon, Sa, Guru, Swamījī. This is a beautiful bhajan composed by Mahāprabhujī. You know, only one who has knowledge about diamonds can price a diamond. Those who know the value of certain things can describe what it is. There are different qualities in humans. Mostly, humans are very selfish, and then we forget. We live in a society called "use and throw." And now, such things are happening not only for material things but also for ethics. As long as you have value, you are the rich one. And when you think, "Now I don’t need any more," and you forget it, then you lose the value. It means whatever you earned or gained is lost. To express thankfulness, gratitude is lifelong. There is a beautiful bhajan also from Mahāprabhujī, which would need two days to translate, and that I would like to translate for you nicely. But today is different. The bhajans are a guidance. Practical guidance: bhajans, poems, these are perfect guidance, short and sweet. In short sentences, immense quality is hidden. But then you have to follow that. Not only do you know that—that doesn’t help. You have to realize that. Let’s say it is said, "What you have to do tomorrow, so do it today." In every country, people say this. And what you have to do today, do it now. Do you follow this? If you have discipline, then you do it. If something in between comes, you push it away. And therefore, it’s very important to understand. Janma. Janma means birth. Janma means birth. So, how many times were we born? What was the purpose to be born? If you create anything, you have a particular imagination and purpose. And if you don’t solve the purpose, then what is the use of it? Param Guru Swamijī. Param Guru, the highest master. "Param Guru Swamiji, mera janam sudhariya aaj." I met you now, and now my life has become successful. Sudhāra means to repair. When your car is not functioning and you bring it to the workshop, and the mechanic repairs your car, you go and say, "Yes, now it’s repaired, now it’s okay." So, "Param Guru Swāmījī Māro Janam Sudhāryo Aaj" means, "Today I met you, and now my life will be successful." "My Gurudeva, Nirmal Jiskā Nenhe Bhāvan Candan Śarīr," whose eyes are very pure, there is no trick. Purity, love, wisdom. Nirmal means without any pollution, without any dirt, without any negativity. Spotless. And his body, his form, his manifestation is like the best sandalwood. The aroma of the best sandalwood. There are many different kinds of woods, but the best is the sandalwood. There is a beautiful poem. When the sandal grew on the ground, the whole forest was happy. The whole forest was celebrating. Why? They said, "Now the day will come, now the day will come, that our value will also go high, that the forest is protected and all other vegetation is protected." Similarly, when someone, one spiritual soul, incarnates, is born, then all people surrounding are happy, celebrating. We celebrate for everyone, but that one is something special. We protect every tree, but the sandalwood is sandalwood. So be that sandalwood. Be that person who is radiating the beautiful aroma of love. Don’t be angry. Don’t speak badly. Don’t be jealous. Don’t hate. There’s one story. There is a beautiful story. In one village, Gurudev came. And the whole village, all people were happy. Like Lala Nanjī Mahārāj said in one bhajan: "Oh, my friends, listen. My Gurudev has come to my house. Kālī, Kālī, Harṣavate." Kālī means the blossom, like a bud of the rose before the flower opens. It’s a beautiful blossom, and "Kālī, Kālī, Harṣavate": every blossom is happy, všechna poupata. They are happy. This "every blood" means every blood cell in the body. "Kusyon kakuj apár nehy," there is no limitation of the happiness. Every chakra opens, "kalī kalī harsāva." Harṣ. Harṣ means, "So the whole village was happy that a great saint came." And many, many disciples were making satsaṅg. And many new disciples came and got mantra. In that village, somewhere, there was living a very big cobra. Why not? Every creature has the right to live. You think the kitchen is yours, but the ants said, "It’s my kitchen." Ants also have rights. They want to go to their kitchen, but you are so jealous and angry. "But these ants are doing here," and ants said, "One human against us? We are the majority, but we have a minority’s love and respect." So if you want to learn... How to treat the minority? Then learn from the ants. It’s a big cobra, nearly two meters long, more than two meters, and in the evening satsaṅg, and with folded hands, the cobra said to Gurudev, "With these folded hands, the cobra says to Gurudev." Did he say? Yes? He said? Řekl. With folded hands, no? No? What is that? Cobra has no hands. Many animals, even house pets, they don’t understand you. And you don’t understand their language. Maybe they understand you more. When you say to your dog, "Dog, sit down," he understands, and he sits down. But if your dog said, "I will not sit down," do you understand? What do you think? You tell me to sit down? We don’t understand. So, animals are very intelligent. The cobra told Gurudev, "I heard that one should have a master in life. Mokṣamūlaṁ gurukṛpā." Liberation is in Gurudeva’s mercy. I am a sinner. I didn’t follow the Guruvākyas. I disappointed my Gurudeva, and as a result, my soul entered into the lower form of life as a reptile. Many, many years I’ve been suffering here. No legs, no hands. Everything that I need, I have to do with my mouth. And I have so many enemies. I always have to hide in a dark hole, but I have heard that Gurudev can liberate even the animals. You know, through the Līlā Amṛt, Mahāprabhujī liberated one cobra, so give me a mantra. So please give me mantra-dīkṣā. Gurudev in meditation gave him mantra-dīkṣā. The cobra said, "I see how many devotees are coming to Gurudev every day. They don’t see me. Sometimes I’m on the roof, looking out. Sometimes, somewhere under the bush, I have your darśan. All the time, I see that every bhakta who is coming is bringing you some prasāda, some offering. 'Don’t go to Gurudeva with empty hands.' But look, Master, my destiny, even my destiny took away my hands. I have no hands. What can I offer you?" The Master said, "Yes, you can offer me something." What does the master give? Offer your aggression, your anger. "What does this mean, master? Don’t bite anyone. But that is my only source of life. I have to bite some creature to eat." He said, "I understand that. But other innocents don’t bite. And all these people, your guru brothers and sisters, girls and boys, don’t backbite your guru brothers and sisters. When you criticize or say one negative word about some of your guru-brother-sister... You are that cobra, or you are going to be a cobra. Choice is yours. My duty is to tell you. Jesa karega, vesa hi bharega. What one will do, like that one will have to get, and suffer. So what, Guru Dev? Don’t bite people. Big animals accept your food." "Okay, Guru Dev." He said with folded hands. Did he say with folded hands? Yes. Mental hands. "From today on, I will not bite." Now, he’s moving in the village, and very soon people came to know, "This is such a nice animal, and he doesn’t bite us." Now, elderly people are okay, but little children, they were pulling him here and there and holding him, putting him here like a belt. He had such a terrible situation. Next time, Gurujī came again, and he also came sitting in front of the satsaṅg, and his head up like in Śiva’s neck, the snake. And observing the Guru Vajra, Gurudev said, "Any question?" The cobra raised up his hood. Which hand? He raised up the tail. And the master said, "Yes. Yes, Bhujaṅg." "Gurudeva, my life is very terrible since I got mantra-dīkṣā." "What? You said my life is terrible? Terrible? Complicated? What do you mean, Bhujaṅg?" "Master, you said, 'Don’t bite.' And now everyone is playing with me and pushing here and there, especially the children. Like they play with the football, because they know I will not bite them." The Master said, "Yes, I said you don’t bite, but I didn’t tell you not to frighten them. You must say, without biting, you can do this." "Oh, Master, thank you." And then, next time, children came near, and Bhujaṅga said, "Psst!" Oh, God! The children ran away, and he had his peace. Therefore, it is important that on the surface you may be strict to tell someone, but in the heart... You are divine. You may say with love to your husband or wife or friend, "God, are you crazy?" But he or she knows that you don’t mean that. This is a normal language too, if you tell to, "Oh, don’t be crazy." It is said in love. It is said in trust. It is said in friendship, that’s why. So everyone is happy, like this story, when the cobra had his peace. You like it? Yes. There is another story which I will tell a little later on. So, "Paramaguru Swamījī, Mera Janam Suddharia Aaj," "My Lord, you made my life successful today." "Nirmala Jhaka Nenhe Bhavan Chandana Sarir," his eyes have beautiful love, pure love. "Bhavan Chandana Sarir," his embodiment is like sandalwood. And that’s why "chandan uga bhūmi par khushi huī ban rahā hai, ek din aisā āyegā kimat degā badāye." So when sandalwood grows, the whole forest is happy. Then it is said, another word for him: "Bās uga bhūmi par ḍukī huī banarāī." Bamboo grows on the ground, and the whole forest was sad. The whole forest felt disturbed because the whole forest was unhappy. Someone asked, "Why are you unhappy?" A někdo se ptal, "Proč jsi nešťastný?" Unfortunately, in our society, one bamboo grows. And? What does that mean? Bamboo is beautiful, very nice. Yes, you think. So, what do you mean by that? protože totiž, Because inside is a hole, and smell doesn’t remain there, and if you rub a little bit, it creates fire. So there are some people who either don’t go to satsaṅg, and if they go to satsaṅg, they don’t accept. They can’t take this divine message. Listen, this side goes out, this side. And if you tell them something, your opinion, then they are like a fire. "What do you mean? I’m not stupid like you all." This is the bamboo, and bamboo has knots inside. And these knots are known as intrigues. Where the bamboo grows, all around are unhappy. Do not be like the bamboo; be a santām. Or, if you want to be bamboo, then be bamboo in God’s garden, which has another divine beauty. Be ready to offer. Feel belonging, that yes, I belong to thee, O my Lord. You do whatever you like, but let me be thine. And you know this story. So, "nirmalā jākā nēnhe bāvana chandana śarīr. Jīvā tāraṇa kāraṇe satsaṅg lāyā jahāj." For the souls to cross the ocean of ignorance. He brought, Gurudev brought the boat, and that boat is satsaṅg. Satsaṅg is the boat to cross the ocean of this māyā. Even you hear the same word every day. Nothing is more important than satsaṅg, but only the sandalwood knows. Bamboo is somewhere alone, something. "Apan milta to Gurudev." Mahāprabhujī said, "Gurudev, if I had not met you, Hotī badī hai, will be very big tragedy happen. If I had not met you, my Lord, what tragedy? In every life, then again I had to go. Lak chaurasi me javta janam janam maharas." In this cycle of 8.4 million different creatures, again I had to go through. "Pāras manī guru nāmhe." It becomes gold. So the disciple who is like iron will become gold through the touch of the Gurudeva. "Show him a dhārī avāj through that mantra which you gave me. Param Guru Swamiji, mera janam śraddhārāya aaj dupahari jagme," otherwise I would have sunk in this world. "Kauva se haṁsa kiyā," he made us from the crow to the swan. "Śoham dhari avas" through that sound of "I am that" and "that I am," Ātmā. "Shri Pūjā Nārāyaṇa Deva Puruṣa," my great Lord Deva Puruṣa, Lord Nārāyaṇa, "Deep Kahi Dhanya Deva." Mahāprabhujī said, "Thank you, my Gurudeva, to you. úspěšné." And with such a feeling, the one who seeks, the spiritual aspirant, veškerému pokušení. Nebuďte takoví. And so sādhanā, yoga has many different aspects, but the main aim of yoga is the union of the individual with the cosmic one. So disciplined and practiced. And you know your weakness, and you know how many problems you have with that. But still, you are doing it. It’s like an addiction. The person who is addicted to alcohol or to something. Know very well that it’s not good for him, for her. It is not good for the economy. Not good for the family and society, but too weak to say no to oneself. So learn to say no to thyself. To say no to others is very easy. I change my mind. I will not do. No, sorry. I go. It’s very easy. It is said to put your gun on someone’s shoulders and then shoot, you know. That is easy, to use someone’s shoulder. But when you use your chest and your arm, then you will know not only that the bullet hit someone, but also that it put pressure on your body. But we are so weak, we will fall down. And if there are two bullets, one goes there, and when the gun falls, the second goes to you. So if you are too weak, then you must have a strong shoulder. And that is Gurudev, or that one who will ever and ever be thine. So practice sādhanā with such a feeling: "I know that I know what I should know. In this world, I know this everything, but I don’t know which I..." Should know for what I was born, to know that I don’t know. And so sādhanā, when you go inside, you are with thyself: meditation, mantra, sevā, karma yoga—many, many things. It must not be that you renounce the whole family and everything and go and only meditate. Who will bring you eating? One day, okay. Two days, okay. Still, you are eating and sitting. Then a beautiful car will come. With red and blue light, and one doctor, two helpers, and one nurse come and say, "Please come in. Why? We will escort you." Oh, where? So it’s not so easy. You have to earn your bread and butter. You have to work. Don’t let anyone work for you. So, equally, be active. I have one disciple. His name is Vivek Purī, and he’s stinky lazy. And in thinking, he thinks he’s self-realized. It’s like a crow who’s sitting on the steeple of the church, and inside people are praying, and the crow thinks, "Oh, they are all praying to me." So don’t be lazy. Don’t play, but be that one. And to be that one, you have to work very hard. That stone we have to polish, then it begins to shine. A diamond has to be polished, so work to be. Don’t think that someone has elected me as a president or a leader for the group. I am not elected. I don’t want to be elected, but I want to be selected. You understand differently? That’s why this book is called Selected Pearls. The selected wisdom is inside. Sādhanā, meditate. When you are meditating, all spiritual aspirants—it doesn’t matter through which religion or master you are doing your sādhanā—if you would like to get rid of the stress, if you would like to get rid of the mental disorders, confusions, and if you would like to realize peace and contentment, and if you would like to enjoy real love, then, during the meditation, be within your body. People make mistakes to go outside, and you forget what is in you. Therefore, first, astral traveling means traveling through the whole body. "Yatha brahmāṇḍe tatha piṇḍī," what is in the universe is in the body. Happiness, peace, love, joy, ātmā, memory, consciousness, mind, jealousy, anger, hate, confusion, conflicts, revenge, greed, all are inside. All are nicely arranged. All you have to do is take the torchlight and look at the qualities. Who are you? I am Mrs. Trishnā. I am the longing. Oh, thank you. Oh, who are you? I am Mr. Desire. Oh, thank you. Who are you? I am Jealous. Oh, relax, please. And, oh, who are you? I’m Shanti peace, then don’t be here. Shanti, be active. Let others relax. I’ll give them some injections; they have long sleep. So, torch of your mantra—mantra is that battery inside. Light and breath is the torch, and your concentration is direction. And your intellect is putting the button, so when you meditate or you relax, feel this body. Lord, thank you, thank you that I could be in this beautiful body. Thank you, Lord. It’s not me only inside, but you too. Divine Mother Kuṇḍalinī Śakti Prāṇa. All. You are so rich. Make a sightseeing of your inner world. That’s it. Meditation. So those who practice spiritual sādhanā, try to realize and try to diagnose your own body. Then the subtle functions in the body, how the energy will go, and this body is given to you to realize the highest dimension, to go more fine, higher. Then your Self will say, Mahāprabhujī said what he said. Someone told Mahāprabhujī, "What did he say?" When you make an inner journey through many dimensions, you pass through many dimensions. Please, Mahāprabhujī, what did you say? Please, Mahāprabhujī, what did you say? Help. Pomoc nám. Mou na. It’s not easy that Mahāprabhujī will say something. But he has to say. Why must he say? He said already, so he said, I will not repeat again and again. Chetan means who is awakened. Chetan means the one who is awakened, and who is not awakened is sleeping. A chetan. A chetan means unconscious. You were a chetan, that’s why the accident happened. If you will be conscious, it will not happen. A chetan, sleeping. Whatever is happening is a chetan that will give us very painful situations. But what happens with Chetan is that Viveka is with it, intellect is with it, devotion is there. Love is there. So Chetan means the supreme God, pure consciousness. Chetanā Chīlaka means the ray. A reflection. Like you are searching somewhere and a diamond is sparkling. In the whole room, you are searching with the torchlight, and suddenly there was one sparkle of the diamond. When you know that, then you know where to go. So that Chaitanya is within ourselves, the Ātmā. And that Gurudev, through his blessing, through his guidance, his mercy, has woken that and shown me that. And where did he show me? How did he show me? "Upadeśa, sabhā, janaka dekharke, cetādeya, devaputra ne upadeśa, sabhā, janaka dekharke." They don’t understand what you are singing. For which you don’t understand the words, it is opera. Yeah. Only who is singing knows what it is. We only know... That’s very good, thank you. So, this bhajan I have been translating for you many times. That is how I was sleeping in the sleep of ignorance. Gurudev came and woke me up, and he saw me, this everything. So, while following the Guru Vākya and feeling his presence constantly, if you don’t feel the presence, then maybe the thieves will take away your vṛttis and put you in a different place. It means you are kidnapped, you are kidnapped, you are kidnapped by negative energy, negative thoughts, negative feelings. So in one bhajan, Ācāryanandī Mahārāj said, "Hosyār reyna bande, na jānā bhūl ṭhagake." Be alert, my friend. Don’t be cheated. This city is the city of the cheaters. They will cheat you while giving you the drink. Drink of temptations. Drink of the tricksters. Therefore, we have to feel the presence, and through that presence we will be safe. Every different level of the chakras will be guided, and you will see that divine light. And once more, you should know that light is not like these lights. That light is not like the light which we see with the physical eye. The physical light is a different light, that’s it. That is like a love we can’t see with these eyes, but it is there, and it’s not physical. You cannot catch. Yes, there is feeling. What do you feel? How do you feel? Someone can smell, and someone can’t smell anything. Now, when you can’t smell anything, how will you prove this is a smell? Okay, you bring the rose and say, "This here, the rose, smell." Bring the rose near to smell. Yes. One thing you will do when the fresh, nice rose comes. He will say, "Oh God, cold," called rose petals. When these indriyas are not functioning anymore, you cannot prove to a person that it is man. You may explain similarly that inner light and that love you cannot prove, and that love is divine. Once granted to us, don’t lose it from your view. Keep always in your view, and you should always be under the center of this divine love. So travel within thyself. Look to your inner mirror. Look through your inner light. How many chapters of your life are there unfulfilled? How many chapters you couldn’t complete, and how much pain, disappointment, quarreling, suffering, fear, hate? Or how many beautiful things you couldn’t fulfill, and you changed the chapter. To be better, yes, there is a saying: there was one cooking pot put on the fire, and oil inside. Now, they put something to fry in, so what you put in would like to come out of the frying pan. So, try to come out of the frying pan, fall into the fire, and that is our situation. You try to come out of one thing. You fell into the other fire: "Na rai, na rai, na... rai,... na rai, na rai," and so on. Therefore, purify all the aggressivities. But also, not that everybody holds you like a donkey and takes it with. Chetan, always be awakened. That’s it. So, today is enough. You were listening too much. Now I wish you all the best, good time, and good appetite. Now it’s time for children to give them chocolate, aby jim dali čokoládu.
