Utilizing the Vajra Nadi

A spiritual discourse on the Vajra Nāḍī, balance, and the preservation of authentic teachings.

"Often, people change the name. When the name is changed, it becomes something completely different, and the effect is different because it is no longer on the correct path."

"Unless your navel is in the right point, you can do all your Kriya yogas, and nothing will happen."

The lecturer leads a session focused on the Vajra Nāḍī, an energy channel associated with the Vajrāsana posture and foundational balance. He discusses the confusion in modern yoga and Āyurveda due to inauthentic teachings, emphasizing the importance of preserving original knowledge as in the Sanskrit scriptures. He explains the connection between the navel (Maṇipūra Cakra) and overall health, demonstrating a self-diagnostic technique using the thumb on the navel and a corrective physical exercise to restore balance to this center.

Filming location: Wellington, New Zealand

This posture remains. It is called Vajrāsana. We have spoken about the nerve systems. There are 72,000 nāḍīs in our body. Through our exercises and meditation, we work with these energy channels, which were originally in one unified energy bundle. We learn how to slowly return to that point. We always speak of three primary nāḍīs: Iḍā, Piṅgalā, and Suṣumṇā. They are very important and great, but there is an emotional problem between them. We need balance, and for that, we have the Vajra Nāḍī. This posture, Vajrāsana, is connected to it. What is its meaning and effect? Often, people change the name. When the name is changed, it becomes something completely different, and the effect is different because it is no longer on the correct path. It is like using a navigator to reach an aim but making a mistake by always going a different way. Recently, our navigator led us in the wrong direction due to our own mistakes. If a street has one name, but you call it by another, the navigation will not recognize it and will lead you astray. This creates confusion. This stems from ego or a feeling of not wanting to go the proper way. We must keep things as they are. Wellington is Wellington; we cannot call it Jordan. We are born to come to the Jordan, but we are calling it Wellington. That is wrong. The significant problem is that people have changed things. They are not masters; they are not perfect, yet they act, creating complete chaos. Consider Āyurveda. It is very good and effective, but it is in chaos because there is no authentic direction. One should not take Āyurvedic medicine without it coming from an Āyurvedic doctor and proper Āyurvedic pharmacy. It must be prescribed by a doctor, just like modern allopathic medicine. Allopathic medicine is regulated, but Āyurveda is not because now everyone acts as a doctor. For a cough, one says to take lemon and water, another suggests spices, and another says to drink warm salt water. Why are you not healed? Because it is no one's definitive responsibility; everything is scattered. Āyurveda is the best, but do not trust it blindly because everyone gives different instructions and medicines. Similarly, yoga is confused. Everyone writes differently. You write a book with a copyright, but within that copyright, you should not write anything untrue. Yet, books are not written correctly; they insert their own ideas. Take the Bhagavad Gītā as an example. According to the Bhagavad Gītā, it contains Kṛṣṇa's teachings and is called the 18 Yogas. Every chapter is a yoga: Jñāna Yoga, Bhakti Yoga, Karma Yoga, etc. The 18th chapter is Yoga. But no one talks about this; it is Yoga. Though it is clearly written at the top—"Atha Bhakti Yoga"—it ends with Bhakti Yoga. Yet, no one discusses yoga in the Bhagavad Gītā. This is the first mistake, even within India itself. Great masters talk about the Bhagavad Gītā but never explain the word "yoga," which is the first word. There is already a mistake. The Sanskrit language is such that no one can change it at all. It was written by Ved Vyāsa and is completely fixed. It is not because I am Indian and always speak in Sanskrit; all your languages stem from Sanskrit. But that is not the subject. The subject is that it is like a dot on the letter 'I'. If you remove the dot, it is wrong. No one, no professor or philosopher of language, can change a single letter. That is the first unchangeable thing. The second unchangeable thing is reality. I am talking about our cakra. You are sitting on that chakra. I took your intention in another direction so that your chakra would become more... Yes! Why did I put you in this position and begin to talk? If I keep you so long, you will change your posture. Second, why did they write a poem and not an article? An article and a poem are completely different. A poem is complete; an article is not. In an article, you can change many things, but in a poem, you cannot. Poetry is perfect. The Bhagavad Gītā is poetry, while other books are just books. So, I can change a book, and people would not know. Evidence should be there. Where we are talking, in Mahābodhi, Devapurījī Bhagavān revived a completely dead, cold body. After a few hours, when they wanted to take it for the funeral, he said, "No, finished, bring it here," and he restored the life, the soul. We are not capable of bringing our soul back. Do you know where your soul went? That is what my writing is about, and there is evidence. Evidence is important. Otherwise, writing is just lectures. I can make my book big or small. But has the Maheśvaram given someone life? It happened in two cases, but I did not do it. I gave instruction, and through that instruction, I saved two children of one family at birth. These are other matters, but I do not speak of them. It is in Gurudev's name, not mine. So, the poem is the best. Sometimes people, by writing, change things a little. When it is changed, it is not right. That is why it is said to be stolen, like a thief. Why? Because it is your copyright. Nowadays, nobody cares about copyright unless very big companies with millions of dollars fight for it. You have to fight long in business, and then nobody will say anything. The point is you. I cannot change you. You will be as you are. The knowledge you have is different, but you have two legs. Someone cannot put a third leg on you, or in the next life. But in the next life, there is no Maheśvara name; there is somebody else. Similarly, regarding the chakras, kuṇḍalinī, meditations, self-realization—whatever you call it—if you achieve self-realization, you will die. You may remain for a few weeks because, after that, you have finished your duties. If it comes against something in between, your self-realization is gone, so you get awarded certain awards at the end of your life, enabling you to do it. Mixing something is... that person. One should not steal; it is called property. Intellectual property is also property. Yet, we shall utilize; it is free. For example, we write, "Be the change you want to see," which was Gandhi's word. Now, if I say in my lecture, "Be the change you want to be," and I talk and talk, it means I have stolen the spiritual knowledge of Mahātmā Gandhi. But if I feel to say it, you must say it is Gandhi's, either before or at the end. Then, the heaviness on your chest is gone. Similarly, what I want to convey is that these three nāḍī nerve systems—Iḍā, Piṅgalā, and Suṣumṇā—are there, but they are very fragile. They need a strong trunk. This strong trunk of the tree is like the tree we have in Rangong. It is three thousand years old since they declared people came. You can tell better; otherwise, this Swāmījī is making some kind of masala. Can you please stand up and tell about that tree? What it is, who said what, how old, and where? We measured the circumference. What was it? It was 33 meters around the base. We were there with a ten-meter rope. We had to go around three times, and there was still about three meters more. A forestry expert said it was the biggest tree he had seen in New South Wales. One minute, please. Can I liberate you into another position? Please change your position. Thank you. Continue, please. It is a fig tree. It manages itself so that if it is too hot and dry, all the figs and leaves fall off, and it goes into a sort of hibernation. A couple of branches have fallen recently; I am not sure why. When we went down, it was very green, vibrant, and healthy. As you walk up the track, you gradually come to the height of the tree. It is huge and awe-inspiring. If you have not seen it, it is worth coming. Which area of Australia? It is on the east coast, in central New South Wales. It is a rainforest tree. We are lucky to have some rainforest areas on our property that border a national park. The terrain is quite steep—400 meters from bottom to top—with deep valleys. The tree is in one of those. There are one or two other similar trees, but that is by far the largest. It is surrounded by stinger trees that protect it. They have silica needles on their leaves; if they get into your body, they never dissolve. Some people have committed suicide after falling into these trees. So, to some degree, the tree is kept safe by this. How old is the tree? About 3,000 years. In that whole area, are there other old trees like that? There are one or two. The whole area was logged 50 years ago, but a few trees in the deep valleys were left. There are some huge trees, but most are relatively new growth. It is nearly like a rainforest right there in the valleys. So, we should not keep cutting those trees round and round. We are trying to preserve them. Thank you. Similarly, in our system, kuṇḍalinī awakening is not something where people gasp as energy comes up and goes, and they sit this way and that. That is completely mental, arising from their mental emotions. Therefore, we are in the middle upper body, which is human but still possesses animal qualities. From our knees to the hip joints is animal and vegetation combined. From the knees to the ankle joints is vegetation connected with the earth. This is the earth element with all the minerals. Above are animals and humans. Humans can behave like animals or as humans. Humans are divine, holy, but their qualities and behaviors vary. For example, some people take animals and eat raw material; this is animal behavior, not human. Human qualities are different. After human qualities, from here up to the Ājñā Cakra, the goddess or divine—whatever you call God—manifests. We do not see this anywhere, but we can see God in our brain, definitely, as far as we are good. We are God; that is divine energy. Now, this upper part, from the end of our spine to here, is the energy of humans and the divine. Below are the pillars, and beneath the pillars are the roots in the earth. So, this chakra, which we want to make strong, is called the Vajra Nāḍī. Vajra means iron—a strong person. There was a prime minister in England named Margaret Thatcher, known as the Iron Lady. She was strong. We need a strong pillar to awaken the energy. Otherwise, you will have only a one-year ministry and then it is finished. But you can keep going further. We have one in Germany, too; she is also like an Iron Lady, serving as Chancellor for the third time. So, how? We have to maintain this. People who cannot change or maintain will change you or change me. They will change here and there. I am giving you stories, and you are listening well, but then you may go somewhere else. I wish from my heart to give you something so that you will truly come to these chakras and awakening. But it is not that with one lecture you will get everything. There is nothing of you. I can only give you beautiful things, like ice cream, but only in a picture. We have to practice Vajra Nāḍī. The Vajra Nāḍī is located between the big toe and the second toe. Between these toes, the Vajra Nāḍī balances all the roots as well as the trunks. It is under both feet, between the big toe and second toe. Now, please, put one leg out. With one finger, massage exactly between the toes. It is very sensitive there. Very good. Do the other one as well; otherwise, you may have dreams all night, which is not good. This center is directly connected to your navel. All these nerves—Iḍā, Piṅgalā, Suṣumṇā—are part of the anatomy recognized by medical science. They say these Trināḍīs do not go down, but everyone agrees they go to the navel. So, balance is here. If you have a brain problem, any confusion, it is connected to the navel. If we cannot get this part under control, we use the Vajranāḍī. What I am telling you, you can experiment with; one hundred percent, it will not fail. It is true. For example, I will tell you what to do. Please be a demonstrator. Lie down so everyone can see clearly. Now, on the navel, she will put her thumb directly on the navel to get a complete, one hundred percent diagnosis. Please, open your stomach only to the navel. You will not get a result now, but the result is there. Use the thumb, left or right, not like this, but press with the thumbprint. In reality, your signature may not be accepted in a high court; you need your thumbprint. People say, "Uneducated people can only give a thumbprint." But this is the truth, the reality, and it is God. How is it done? We do not know. We all have the same thumb, same digits, but the prints are different. Place the thumb not with the nails inward—that is painful—but like this, number one. Number two: sit straight or lie down. Do not be nervous. Place it in the middle of your navel. Not like this or that, but straight. Then you will get a good diagnosis. You will see what happens: stop your breath for a few seconds and observe the pulse. Is it in the middle of the navel, or on one side—left or right? Where is it moving? If it is on the left or right side, you have problems with your stomach, digestion, and many other issues. Why? Because the navel is not in the right place at the right time. This is not a joke; it is true. Now, how to repair it? Very easily. There are techniques. Unless your navel is in the right point, you can do all your Kriya yogas, and nothing will happen. That is why, this morning during meditation, did you feel sensation mostly on your back, on your spine? Even though we were clothed, the sensation comes more on our back. It does not matter if you go swimming; you will see it is there. There are many nerves going like this. There is a technique I can show you. If anyone has these problems—constipation, diarrhea, headaches, or many diseases that can come from here—it is connected to the Vajranāḍī, number one. Number two: we can bring it into order, but in five minutes or when going up stairs, it may become unbalanced again. When it is unbalanced, you can repair it, but we cannot maintain it constantly. Therefore, there is a technique to control this chakra, the Maṇipūra Cakra. You put a red, black, or white pure cotton thread around your thumb or big toe. If the navel pulse is only on the left side and goes outward when you put the thread on the left side, you should also... Sometimes people advise, and I can tell you one thousand percent—not one hundred—it is perfect and healthy. You can wear a ring. Some people wear a silver ring; some wear iron—okay, no problem—but silver is better. Gold is dangerous because if you go swimming, a fish might take it. Immediately, your health condition will be restored. You may have heard that some people wear a ring on the big toe. If you wear a ring on the second toe, it is only for beauty. In the Indian system, during marriage, there was a ring on the second toe, not on the finger. The European tradition is a ring on the ring finger—it is even called the ring finger. That is for a woman, not for a man; a man does not get anything. This ensures the child will be born healthy and good. It affects the nervous system. So, Vajranāḍī, my dear, is here. From the very beginning... Can you give me the Maṇipūra Cakra, please? Thank you very much. This is our Maṇipūra Cakra. The triangle energy goes down, and the next will be different. There are many colors and symbols on this, and every symbol has a meaning related to our body, mind, health, and development. It is a very important point. We saw in the video that energy comes from space, collects like this, goes down, and collects here exactly at the navel in the pop energy. So, Vajranāḍī is here. We have all the chakras and mantras written there. Even though it is a human chakra, it still has qualities mixed in from animals. Every animal has its meaning and energies. This is very important for our Vajranāḍī. Now, please, we can try something if you do not mind. Otherwise, do not. Open your stomach, lie down with your head to the side, and keep your stomach free. With your right thumb in the middle of the navel, your nail should be toward your heart and the other part of the thumb toward down. Inhale and exhale, then hold your breath. Press with this thumb. Which side is your nerve moving? Inhale. I will not disturb you too long. Breathe. Did someone feel it in the middle? One, two, three, four, five, six, seven. Thank you. Who felt left? One, two. Who felt the right side? One. Okay, hand down. Legs together, and again with the left hand. Check your navel. Inhale and exhale, and retain the breath for a while. Good. Is there still one in the middle? Middle is one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine. One came between already again. Who was on the left or right? One, two, three, four. Okay. Now, who was on the left side? One, two, three, four. I will give you one technique now. Raise your right leg up and bend your knee, then suddenly kick your left leg down, not up. Once, not too much. You are getting the idea? Relax. Now, bring the knee toward the stomach. When I tell you, state your leg on the ground. Bend your knees. That is very good. I cannot see anymore; close the window or curtain. Thank you. Why this one half? And this one also. Thank you. Now, I will make it like this, and then you should stretch your leg quickly. Please bend your knee toward the body. Lakṣmī, you are wrong; I told you to stretch the leg. All right, now can you check your navel, please? Is there a change? Yes. Whose changed? Okay, another one. Anyone who was on this side changed now? Who has it on the right side? Right side, you had the left leg up and hands beside on the ground, and you will stretch the leg on the ground quickly, like this. Okay, very good. Check your navel, please. Thank you. Is it changed to the middle? Good. Sit up, please. Unless your navel is in balance, you can do many prāṇāyāmas and other practices, but your kuṇḍalinī will not rise. We have all our chakras, spine, and navel connected. Prāṇa, Apāna, Samāna, Udāna, and Vyāna are the five prāṇas in the body, mostly active in the trunk. Then there are another five prāṇas in the very subtle body. We will come to the chakras after the evening program. I wish you all the best, and God bless you. I was very happy—really, I had that kind of happiness that I could do the programs like this.
