Tree planting in Auckland

A tree-planting ceremony for peace and healing following a national tragedy.

"This tree is for the peace of the whole world. Peace and the bliss of the tree. We search for peace, and this tree gives us bliss."

"We would like to pray for this as a peace, and for this country, that it should never and never happen again."

Following the Christchurch mosque shootings, community leaders, local officials, and international representatives gather at a newly restored beach in Auckland. They plant a "peace tree" as a symbol of unity, offering prayers for the victims and for global harmony. Swami Vishwaguruji leads the ceremony, dedicating the tree to the victims and explaining its significance as a living prayer.

No more, no more… no more, thank you. This was placed here to compensate the people of Anihanga for losing their beach when the motorway went in. That motorway was built in the 60s or the 70s, I’ve forgotten which. But Anihanga waited 30 years for the replacement of their beach, and I’m happy to say that it was replaced. It was lovely. So, not only are we on our beautiful new beach, but with what wonderful spirit enhancing our beach. The spirit of Penlanders is needed so badly today, so it couldn’t be a better day. I’d like to say thank you very much for inviting me as a local board member and also for representing the New Zealand Police as well on a day like this. A symbol of a peace treaty is a fine testament to this area and to what is happening in the world at the moment. So thank you for this opportunity. As Bridget said, this beach here is a lovely new place, and as a member of this community and living locally, it’s great to have a great group like this coming in as our community family, so thank you very much. I just acknowledge you all for being here under the mantle of our maunga, our stronghold. I’m a descendant of our great Hua Kaiwaka, and this land that you are all on, in between these mountains you see and also our awa here… I just ask that we all come together and to be able to share tears, and to be able to be sad, but also to be uplifted. By being together, that is how we uphold what this whenua means in this rākau. So, as an artist of the area, as a descendant of this land, and of these waters, and of these mountains, and also as an Onihunga Business Association representative—yes, honoured, thank you. It’s an honor for me to be here on this day, which has followed a day of such tragedy for all of us living in New Zealand. I think we’re doing all that we can to be together, stay strong, and to be so positive. I think we’ve got all these ingredients in our Hindu culture and yoga that we can tap into, and it’s so wonderful to be here. Thank you, Gurujī, for allowing us. Thank you very much, Swamijī, for inviting us here today. The planting of this tree is very important, as there was a tragic moment yesterday in Christchurch. It brings more importance that we need more peace and stability and a clean… environment New Zealand is known for. Your prayers and blessings are very important in today’s time, and I request you to pray for our peace and stability. That’s good. Very nice thing, and I hope that as a world we feel a little better. Unfortunate events of yesterday should be something that should be relegated to the background, and not… well, I hope things improve. For New Zealand, this has been one of the saddest times I’ve spent; I’ve been here more than 20 years. Āraṇya and yoga and daily life. Thank you so much. A person from Croatia. On behalf of Croatia, please, anybody. It’s a great honour to be invited. It’s a great honour to be invited for the opening ceremony of the Auckland Ashram, and especially to participate in such a beautiful event, to plant one more tree that Vishwa Gurujī has been planting all around the world, representing peace, especially on this day after the big tragedy that happened yesterday in New Zealand. So we would like to express our good wishes and much success, a lot of success, for spreading the peace, the message of peace through yoga. Thank you. Thank you. Slovakian nation, Slovakian, you are welcome. I’m very honored to be present at this planting of the tree, which we are planting all over the world. It is said that this tree will fulfill all wishes, so I’m sure and I believe that this peace will come, and I feel very happy that I could be present. Thank you. On behalf of Hungary. Hungary! Swamijī, we are very honored to be here on behalf of the Hungarian community, and thank you very much for being the ambassador of peace. Please come back many times. Praṇām Swāmījī, welcome dear honored guests. It’s very nice to be here today. This is very auspicious after the Christchurch shootings yesterday, to plant a tree to spread the message of peace, not just in New Zealand but throughout the world. So let’s put our hands together, our prayers, and “Om śānti, śānti,” wherever we are. Thank you. Very honored to be here in New Zealand, and I wish the way this peace tree is growing, the peace around the world is spreading, not just in the world but also in our hearts, to this advocate. On behalf of Austria, not Australia, Austria. How are you? How are you, dear friends? I’m really, really happy to get this tree because our ashram is very close, and I know that also the students and we all appreciate that we can come here, walk here 20 minutes, and have maybe a pre-grammar going around the tree. We have a wish in our heart. I’m sure Swamījī will put a lot of mantras there so that our wishes will come true. Thank you, thank you. On behalf of Gujarat, yes. Namaste, Praṇām. Don, Vāxījī, Vijay, Dr. Sāhab, all, everybody here. And Swamijī had a peace treaty in Bittislawa. A mayor of Bittislawa organized it, and when I visited, what a message, through the peace, through the tree. And I was honored to be there in British Lower. Today we are honored, from Wellington, to be in the presence of Councillor Young and Bridget, the local member, and Bhakṣiṣat. But it’s not a peace tree, it’s a love, it’s a cooperation, it’s a respect. Hard work, the message that Swāmījī carries from our paramparā, and that’s what we have to carry. I was talking to Don just now, I said, and Swāmījī said, that from the bindu, from the little drop, the ocean gets filled. Same with a small crime, a very small crime. When somebody calls you, attend to that. It does not become a bigger crime, like yesterday. So we need to put it in at the beginning, not at the end, and we hope and we pray that the priests… will prevail in this beautiful, peaceful country. And I thank you, Vishwa Gurujī, and Yoga and Daily Life, and Śrī Svāmī Madhavānand, and the Peace Council, to take a lead and be an affiliate to the United Nations to have such lovely plans to protect humanity, protect the environment. Particularly Swamijī has a water harvesting plant, a cow shelter, schools, medical schools, and throughout the world, now across the globe on five continents, Swamijī has a yoga and meditation, and peace, love, and harmony message. So Vishwagurujī is a practical Vishwaguru, not just speaking from the microphone every morning, but practically he takes a step to do it. And we really are in debt, Vishwagurujī, for your initiative, for your masters, to your masters, and to God, to give us such a personality that we were lucky to have. On behalf of Australia… International is international. This message goes to the whole world. On behalf of Australia, a big welcome, and very well that you did come to this beautiful event. And thank you. Praṇām Gurudev, for bringing to us this tree. Not only for your grand life, not only for Auckland, but for the entire planet. All religions, all nations, all beings on the planet, all are one. And all of us are seeking the peace in this symbol, and now alive in a living, growing. The tree is our prayer for peace in the world. Thank you, Gurudev. Alright, thanks for the opportunity. I think it’s a wonderful opportunity in these difficult times. I think this tree will still remind us of our being here, and hopefully it will lead us to more peace than more disagreement among people. Now we will first bring our tree, the divine holy tree. If everyone can touch, help you come, as many as we can. Now put it on, make the tree very straight, okay. Good energy by just touching it. It’s a cloth. It will disintegrate. I think leave it. No, I think pull it out. It will grow faster. It will grow bigger. It doesn’t have to struggle. It will grow faster. Om Satyameva Jayati. Earth, please. Everyone, when it’s half back, give us, please. When the half give it was okay, now give us here. Now, okay, so we all can please come. We are giving earth inside, yeah? We put earth inside, okay? You also put a little inside, okay? Yeah? Very good, father. Good. Everyone, please come and see the beautiful soil. I would, I will request the authority that we should have, we want to have a raw rock so high, and there will be written the international, our Makṣiśab, and we write the name on it, on this day, the beast, the plaque is here. Thank you, sir. Okay. So we all go to our āśram. Okay, oh, oh… Sarveṣāṃ Maṅgalam Bhavatu, Sarveṣāṃ Pūrṇam Bhavatu, Lokaḥ Samastaḥ Sukhino Bhavantu, Om Nāhaṃ Kartā, Prabhudeep Kartā, Mahāprabhudeep Kartā Hi Kevalam, Om Śānti, Śānti, Śānti Bhavatu. Blessings, Swami, it starts to rain. So from this, everyone can, even with only a little water, please give water to this tree. Everyone take some, even some. Om śānti, śānti, śānti. Salutation to the cosmic light. Salutation to our great masters, our gurus. Salutation to this country, my dear sisters and brothers. All the dignitaries, the ministers, etc., our Dr. Bakshī is a great personality. We wanted him to be in India, but he came here and did the sevā here. Thank you very much. Also, Dr. Shah, everybody. The tree is a living being. It is a life. And this is a life for us. If there are no trees, no this, we will not survive. This tree is for the peace of the whole world. Peace and the bliss of the tree. We search for peace, and this tree gives us bliss. We know we did not think that on this occasion such a charity, or what has happened, is with the country New Zealand and Christchurch. Our brothers and sisters lost their family members. Doesn’t matter from which religion or which country, we are humans and we are all one. We would like to pray for this as a peace, and for this country, that it should never and never happen again. We, this nation, New Zealand, is one of the peaceful, tree-filled countries people like very much, but it happens, it happens. Sir, it is not from the country’s people, but it doesn’t matter who has done it; it’s not good. Also, I would pray for them who did that, that they should not do such things and come again to peace and harmony. I will pray for you and for your parents, for they are also very sad about what their children have done. My dear ones, we pray for all for peace, harmony, understanding, and love to each other. This tree is staying here for peace, harmony, love, and understanding, and this tree is a peace tree for those who have a wish, this tree from so many nations. Blessings you got from Europe, America, Australia, the Netherlands, India, etc. Now, those who have a wish, it will be fulfilled, especially on this day. We should come here and pray. You can give one thread onto this tree, and I can tell you, pray to God. That your wish will come, so thank you very much. And especially, I feel myself very happy that in this country I can plant this peace tree here, especially in Auckland. We have in Wellington many, many trees, and many other countries, so thank you very much. We shall take care of this tree and come time to time here and meditate. There will be energy that will come; we can’t imagine how much it will be, my sisters and brothers, just for one minute. We shall pray for the lost souls in Christ’s church, in your language, in your feelings, in your thoughts, and we shall pray it should never happen again. Om Śānti. Śānti. Okay, that’s also very nice, that we all will pray, we all will have, and we will say my mantra. And our one of the dear brothers, Gyaneshwar Gyananand, from Wellington, and we… Should we dedicate this tree for them? What happened? Okay? Is it good? Very good idea. So it will be on that plaque, dedicated to the victims in Christchurch, because it’s the most major thing in our country for maybe 100 years. Śānti, śānti, śānti bhavato Vāsudeep Nair Bhagavān Aki Viśva Gurujī Aki. So you can touch the tree, it will ever remain this energy of you.
