Chakras and Awakening

Our subject is Kuṇḍalinī and cakras, the science of body, mind, and soul. First, arrange your space and bring your hands together at the heart, feeling the energy flow. This energy is your own divinity. Kuṇḍalinī awakening is not a physical movement but an awakening in clarity and joy. We exist through layered bodies: the physical, energetic, mental, intellectual, and the body of bliss. Major energy centers, or cakras, exist in humans and animals, connecting us to elements like earth. Regular contact with the earth purifies these energies. Self-realization means understanding the self. The soul is one, like a single powerhouse lighting many bulbs. Do not claim a permanent, egoistic self-realization; true oneness is rare and often temporary. Non-duality is the final knowledge that removes the ignorance which creates fear and separation. We must meditate on this oneness.

"Kuṇḍalinī means you are awakened in your clarities, in your knowledge, in your happiness, your joy—not that something in your body is moving."

"The soul is one, so your soul cannot be ill... We are all one soul."

In our practice, whether sitting, standing, or lying down, you should maintain a distance from each other. We have enough space in this big hall, so please ensure there is space between each person. When you move your arms, they should be at the level of your elbow, but you should be staggered—one person in the back, another in the front. This is so that our energy remains contained within our own body. Please, those of you near the wall, adjust your positions. Sisters sitting down, move a little to the side. Sister on the chair, you are comfortable where you are. Good. And you, come a little more to the side, yes, towards the wall. Very good. And you also, a little bit. Yes, that's comfortable. These two, if you can leave a little distance. Ramanand, please come to the front here. Bhakti, move a little to the front. A little bit, thank you. Do not worry; I will bring them out. You sit down. We can see your head in the picture; that is good. So, you yourself come to this path. Thank you. Yes, like that, at an angle. You know what angle means? Yes, that's right. Before speaking further, you mentioned an angle to me. Should I tell you about the angle? Perhaps next time, along with what a real joke is. But for now, sit comfortably and be aware of thyself. Withdraw thyself from the external world and come here, into this hall and within thyself. You are with all, and all are with you. One day, relax, and we will begin now. Therefore, if you like, fold your hands together. This hand should come towards our chest, our heart. This signifies the right hand as the supreme God, and this is your heart—both in one. If you do not believe in God, if you do not see God, it does not matter. You can say this is what you believe in, anything—this hand and this hand together. Perhaps it is your wife and your husband, or your mother and yourself. But we bring our two hands together, this energy. This energy should flow into our heart. Now, energy will come. Hold your hands open, like this, at the level of the Anāhata, our heart. Like this, not like that. Fingers relaxed. Not like this, but a little like that. Now, energy will flow to the tips of the fingers. Energy is flowing from the tips of the fingers, like very fine needles going through. There are no needles; no one is placing needles there. It is your energy, your being here. You are. You are the Divine. When we are all together, we are one; we are strong. Feel. Feel the tips of the fingers and through the whole palm. Do you feel it? Let us come. Be nice to us. Be kind to us and give us your energy. Yes, you are the giver and we are the receiver in oneness. Now, fold your palms like this and very slowly bring your palms close together. Leave them at a distance of about five or six centimeters. Keep your palms relaxed, not stiff—gentle. Yes, there is a feeling of coming together, yourself, your energy, facing palm to palm. Let us come a little closer. Yes, it is about a few centimeters' distance. Our fingers are as if we are holding a ball. Let us feel. But slowly, very slowly. Expand, contract, expand. Now, I will give you clarity. It is not a miracle. It is not anything like some miracles. It is you and your energy; you are. If you are very pure, if you have no negative thought or thinking, then you have beautiful light and energy, needles going through like this. Yes, yes. Now rotate like this. Energy. Now, close your palms like this. Fold your hands and rub your palms together until they become hot. From the tips of the fingers to the end of the head. Let's begin. If you do not feel anything, at least your hands will be warm. Okay? Perfect. Now, how is it in this distance? Now, move more slowly, as if needles are moving inside, but there are no needles. It is you who are giving. Your heart is good. Your heart being good means positive. If you go like this, expanding and contracting this light, you are purifying yourself. Now, we fold both hands and bring our hands onto our thighs or knees. There are chakras, which we will speak about afterward. Again, place your right hand gently near your navel. There are 52 letters, or alphabet, whatever you call it. Each and every letter, when we speak, first begins from the navel. Nectar is the center of the navel and on the top of the head here, but that nectar from here is a raw material, and the purified nectar is in the navel, like honey from a beehive. When we take this cleaning, it is very pure, clean honey. Similarly, now we hold our palm on our navel. Any word we will talk, speak any word, the first pressure will come on the navel. So, anything I will tell, and you should also tell with... Let me feel if it is only my navel that is moving or not. I had to do hard work to bring my stomach a little out so I can show you. It was not purposely that my stomach has gone. Ah, it was hard work. Okay, anyhow. So I will tell and you will tell: "Yes, no, you, me, good father, mother, brother, oh nice, good eating was all the times here first." Yeah, so it was. Now, these are 52 letters, and if we can take this to the light of away, that's... Right, yeah. Release this, yeah. This real, yeah, and this also. Thank you. Okay, so you can, for a while, leave your head. The Subject: Kuṇḍalinī and Cakras Now, our subject is about what is called Kuṇḍalinī and cakras, the science of body, mind, and soul. You have heard many times, "What is Kuṇḍalinī?" We will now understand what it is. Is Kuṇḍalinī what? Is awakening of the Kuṇḍalinī if something is making movements in your spinal column or in this part? That is wrong awakening. So, Kuṇḍalinī means you are awakened in your clarities, in your knowledge, in your happiness, your joy—not that something in your body is moving like this. If it is something like that, then it means something is wrong in your organs, nerves, etc. So, there is the Mūlādhāra Cakra, which is at the end of the spinal column. Second, third, fourth, and fifth—these are the major power centers of humans and animals together. From our foot soles till our ankle joint is the earth cakra, the earth centers. The second is then vegetation. The third is the animals. The fourth is the humans. And the fifth begins from here, from this part, is called the humans. So these are the divided qualities. Though from the big toes to the foot soles and the whole body like this, there are many, many cakras—uncountable for us—all of that is concentrated in that part of the body, in this energy. That energy we call the cakras. You cannot destroy these cakras with an operation. You can cut the nerves, you can cut the muscles or some bones, but energy, as long as you are alive, our whole body will be like that. The Three and Five Bodies Our bodies, we are understanding, are three times different. First, let's say the physical, mental, and subtle. These are the three bodies: physical, mental, and subtle body. But if we go further, then there are five, and these five are different. The first is the body of nourishment, Annamaya Kośa. Anna means solid and liquid food. But solid and liquid food is not only this. There is a second body, and that's called the energy body—the strength, the energy that is very fine. The whole body may be okay, good, strong, but there is no energy; we cannot get up. So, energy is that which can make our life comfortable, easy, etc. After that, it is called the mental body. The mighty part of our life is called the mind. The mind is strong, the mind is very wide, and it can go at a very quick speed. For example, we can bring our mind somewhere so quickly, within a second. I will tell you, all of you and myself, that I bring you somewhere, and then your mind will be there, not your physical body. I will say, let's say Jupiter. Now, all our mind is connected already to Jupiter, doesn't matter, okay? But Jupiter planet or the moon—after this, all we go to our yoga center. We are here, so mind is going so much. The mind is restless, not remaining on one point all the time. It is changing 30 times, like the moon, and that is why it is our mind. Our minds are like deva. Deva means God, but we can say our master. Our master of the mind is the moon, and the principle of the moon is water. And the principle of water is emotion. This emotion, it is emotion. All the times, the motion, emotion. In you, this emotion and our emotion is changing and even making us so unhappy. So, connecting please this point: mind, the master of the mind is the moon. So the principle of the moon is water, and the duty, or quality, of water is emotion. This emotion, so we are moving in emotion. So, there we are moving, and that comes again to the mind. So, understand, please. You can often—I say, many people say, but mostly Americans tell me, I do not know if it is true or not, but mostly they say, "Oh, Swāmījī, I will come tomorrow morning, definitely, in any case, okay? I am waiting." And then, early morning, two hours before, he said, "Swāmījī, I'm sorry, I changed my mind." I said, "Okay, no problem." After one hour, the telephone comes again and says, "But lunch time, I will, I'm sure." I said, "Okay, you are welcome." And again, he said, "My grandmother is ill, and I think I change my mind. I go to grandmother." So I said, "My dear, changing mind is so easy, why don't you change your body?" You cannot change your body so easily, but you can go. And so the emotion is going to the whole body, everywhere. So this is the mind. So body, energy, mind. And then comes the intellect, our decisions, our knowledge, etc. And then the fifth part of this is called the destination, what we have. Either we enjoy and come down, or we go up. So Annamaya Kośa, the body of nourishment; Prāṇamaya Kośa, body of the energy; Manomaya Kośa, body of the mind; Jñānamaya Kośa, the body of knowledge. Or we divide another one, and that is called the elements: Ākāśa (space), fire, air, water, and earth. So we are dividing our body into two parts, though it is a little different: nourishment, energy, mind, knowledge, and our what? What was it? Joy. Joy. Joy or no joy. Joy, you should be very careful. The joy of the joy is to enjoy. But in that enjoyment, there is less joy and more happiness. So, Annamaya Kośa, Prāṇamaya Kośa, all these five elements. Thank you. That is how the whole body is there. And so our aim is to bring our body into good condition, into good health, so that we can achieve the supreme consciousness. Chakras in Humans and Animals Now, in these cakras, human cakras, animals also have them. Animals have the same as we have, but they are limited and we have more. In this body, this is our foothold, the earth cakras. It is true that where we touch the earth, where there is no concrete highway or road, on the earth we are connected completely directly with sunlight, sun energy, even at night. Even the sun is not visible because it is midnight, but still, that Earth, all the time Earth is also moving. And from every direction, the Sun is giving that light to us. So that earth, and in earth, how we call earthing? When we are building, when we are making some big building, then we must have the earthing. I hope we have earthing in this house. Do you know? Yes. And so when lightning in the clouds, and lightning and water, etc., then this energy and lightning is coming. But it goes, touches the earth, and is neutralized. So, though we are part of the earth, we have something different; therefore, we cannot be like the earth. So walk every day, 5 minutes, 10 minutes, 20 minutes, in your garden or somewhere. In the garden we walk, walk in the garden, back out. This is great, good. Yes. Okay, ask me a question. Very good. Yes. You put your question after. Thank you. So the food's all. So, definitely, you will have your health developing better and better and better. If you do not, if you are on the fifth floor, then, like this, our yoga mat, you make a very little place and bring some gravel and sand and walk five minutes on this barefoot without socks. You will feel how our health will be getting better and better and better. Similarly, the hand. So there are two parts in the body: the soles of the feet and the palms. Also, work a little bit with the earth. There is sunlight coming to our body. Now, if you cannot have earth somewhere, bring one bucket, then put a little earth, keep a little water inside, and massage the earth. Or you have plants, so every time clean the plants and touch them. This is coming energy, so strong, to bring our body into healthy parts. So, this is the earth cakra, from here till vegetation. And from this is the animals. And from earth cakra is mixed with the sunlight. And from this earth cakra till the vegetation is mixed from these two together. Then vegetation and animal come, the human cakras. Now this is where the intellect and emotion are, the heart. But we have to go through the heart. If we are only intellectual, then it is all dry. It is a dry plastic apple. But if we have the heart and intellect together, we will do the best thing in our world. Then we have the apple, which is the real apple, which we can eat. Now, this is a very important part. We are what is going to do, and then comes the Viśuddhi cakra, and finally is the thousand-petaled cakra, where we call Śiva is dancing here also. So, from all of this, please come here to this part. So when our body is purified, when all these five parts of the body are purified, and our thinking is better, positive—never think negative. Though the negative is there, we cannot 100% clean it. We cannot, like our body. We have so many different kinds of bacteria in the body that we cannot purify; otherwise, we will be ill. They are helping our body. So similarly, this negative energy is there, thoughts, etc. But we should stay above and positive, positive, positive. Self-Realization In that case, so when you all and myself, when we will purify all these cakras, then there is no movement, something. But this is called energy, which is awakened in positive thinking, positive energy, everything in our body. Then this is called, number one, we can tell, if you want to say, self-realization. What does self-realization mean? The self means I understood myself. I self-realized. Now, what do you want to realize? What do you want to realize now? The soul is one, so your soul cannot be ill, or your soul can be different. We are all one soul. We are all one soul. Think, do not say that my soul is different and your soul is different. No, I want to make you clarity. Here, somewhere, maybe kilometers, two kilometers, five kilometers, half a kilometer. So that is called the powerhouse. The powerhouse is one. And now, from this powerhouse, comes the light. And from this powerhouse light, which we are distributing, many, many bulbs are there in this light. Many other lights are in this instrument, everywhere. Now, this function is different. In black or white, it is inside still. This bulb or that bulb, all, but one button we put off, all light is gone. Similarly, we are all, humans and animals and all, that one soul, life, that is one of God, and that's called one in all, and all in one. One in all and all in one. So we are, but we are caught by something. So this light is caught in the bulb. That power is caught by this projector. That is caught by our computer. So everything is caught in different, but all this machine can stop is gone. Now, we humans have done our powerhouse far distance, and we are taking solar plexus. The solar panels, we are getting energy, but the energy is the same, the fire is the same, the light is the same. So self-realization, self-realization has two. One self-realization is that you have understood, "I know who I am now." Now, but I have no more negatives, anything. I'm completely pure. Then you know it as a master or self-realized. So do not only demand on the self-realized. Self-realization is, then comes the second. So, how can self-realization happen when you are telling, "In my under my armpit, my self-realization I have with me"? Okay, very good, you have self-realization, my dear. Very, very good. Now, the self-realization. So, there was a little story, okay? The story always tells us some good things, too, because sometimes someone is talking, and then you say, "Oh, yeah, so how much is talking?" Yeah, so now, to awake us, the best... Knowledge, best knowledge, which remains ever with us, unless our memory is gone. First is the best story our grandmother told us; some stories we still know. Second is the drama, the drama, dancing, this, etc. And third, a beautiful poem. The rest is here and... There, here and there, the train is always running on the rail. So stories are something, but the story must have a sense in it. So this little story: one master gives the retreat, and we do not have a retreat. We do not have a retreat because we are... Already treated, so we do not go. Okay, there was a master. Invite for 25 people, and three months you are going. Three months, and there this master gives you self-realization, complete. And how are you getting so? It is said you will get self-realization, and we will have the examination. Every day coming, every day coming, talking, and the master was coming once a week. So one man, he's coming and said, "Master, I am divine." One day, that master said to the student, "Master, I am only one, I am God." You are? Lord, I do not know who is the master and who is the disciple. Master, I am only the Divine. I have no desires. I am not angry, nothing. I am one. Master, you are asking me the question, but I cannot answer the question because to whom should I give the answer? And there is no answer, sir. Master, I am great. I am the highest. I'm neither hungry, nor is there any jealousy, no hate, nothing. Master, I am only one. Master said, "I will make a test." He said, "Master, I am, you can't do anything." Master took the bamboo and cut the bamboo on the head, and he jumped out. Master, like this you are not good. Master, you are cruel. I am so peaceful, and this, and how could it beat on my head? Master said, "You are not self-realized. Get up, go and meditate." After one month, come back. So this is the self-realized, but material is with us. It is with us, everything. So do not think that I am self-realized; my Master is self-realized. Yes, it can be for one day, one minute, one second, or one month, but again, the saṃsāra, this world, here is everything. You cannot do this. So, when will it be complete? This self-realization can sometimes give us bad, but the self-realization after that is Brahma. In Brahman, Brahma jñāna is different, and oneness with Brahman is different, and that is the last moments of life. Maybe for one day or a few days, or some seconds, one minute, one hour. That is final. So do not think that you will get this and this and this now. Have you seen anyone like that? And you said, "I will get become self-realization," and now after he said, "Ten years I was with this master, and he didn't get, he also not get the liberation, so how can I get? I go somewhere." "Your liberation is that when you will die," now he said, "Master, then..." Okay, I will hang up myself, he said, "No, no." So with hanging up, you will not get something like this. So, my dear, this is different. The One Soul and Non-Duality So in this now, the soul is only one. The sun is one here, but the light is indifferent. The soul is one, that is God. But this is split, like the ocean: the water of the ocean becomes steam, then fog, then clouds, and then drips out. And again flows the water, and then come the creek and the river, and then it comes back into the ocean. Or you are lucky that it is already raining in the underwater ocean, and we are coming quickly near there. But do not say, "What is my destiny of my soul?" Your destiny, individuality, okay, but your soul has no... Destiny, because it is God's destiny. It is God itself, that we have to come with. And so we are coming with these cakras, as well as this meditation. Meditation is that we should meditate and think that my soul means already God. God is with me. Please, God, remove all other negativity, darkness, fears, etc., and let me be one with Thee, O my Lord. So, meditate. We will meditate now, and this meditation is very, very important. So this cakra, again, where are we? Which will solve, you think, is the individual soul. Jīvātmā and Paramātmā. These are the three divided, but it is one. Divided same qualities, but one in one glass has one liter of water, so that's only one liter of water inside. The other one has one bucket full of water, and the other is in the ocean. Now, what is the difference? Similarly, we have to go through that to understand. Therefore, Ādiguru Śaṅkarācārya said that non-duality, non-duality, and non-duality, so that is what he said: "I am one, I am one." And others said, "No, there is a duality." Of course, as long as there is ignorance, there is a duality. And when there is no ignorance, then there are no dualities. That is, he gives many, many experiences. He is walking on the road, and some far, about let's say 20, 30 meters far, or 40 meters, and there is a rubber, black rubber pipe lying there, and he said, "Oh, snake!" And slowly we are looking, coming close. There is no snake, it's a rubber pipe. When I was far and I got in this snake, I had fear, carefully coming. And when I say it is a plastic, then fear was gone. There was no stick. So this is the ignorance, that which makes there be duality. But non-duality is that knowledge to get. And that is jīva, ātmā, and paramātmā. All three are one. Therefore, one in all and all in one. And so, in this, we have to come here. So this is our intellect, the consciousness, and the heart. This together it goes, then we have the best happiness, joy. Now, both, the prāṇa from down comes to here. The prāṇa from here comes to here. Because here is our soul, our beginning, our sitting, etc. The Nerve Systems and Meditation So now we will meditate for a while. Before we have this, now we have to come here to this point for a minute, please. In the human body, there are 72,000 nerve systems. And out of all that, these are major, major nerve centers here on this chart, because we cannot see everything. And there in our body, which is a major part, like for example, similarly on our foot, our knee, and down at the end of the spinal column, then the second bone of the spinal column, then it is coming here, our navel, and then is Anāhata, our heart, and Viśuddhi, etc. But our soul is here. Here is our life. Life begins immediately here.
