Atma is in every creature

A satsang discourse on spiritual lineage, the nature of the self, and practical wisdom.

"Śrī Guru Ātmā Parāptamā Ho Mātma Puruṣottama, Sakal Jag ke Antaryāmī, Cara Car kī Ātmā Prabhu... in this one line, everything is covered."

"To which doctor will you go? To the doctor in the picture, or to a real, alive doctor?"

Swami Vishwaguruji addresses the gathering, weaving teachings on the essence of the Guru and the universal Ātmā (soul) from the paramparā (lineage) with humorous, practical advice on topics from kingship and knowledge to hair and modern fashion. A disciple then reflects on the profound value of having a living Guru to transmit these teachings.

Śrī Dīptānanda Bhagavān, Dev Puruṣa Mahādeva, Satguru Svāmī Madhavānandajī Bhagavān, Satya Sanātana Dharma. Śrī Saveśvara Bhāī, Maharṣi Svāmī Maheśvara, Nānaka Purī jī, Pūra Bhūdeva, and Viveka Purī jī Mahārāja kī Jaya, and Pārvatī jī kī Jaya, and Mantra Devī. I didn't say that, only Mantra Devī. Not Jaya. Jadan Jaya. Means go to the... Okay. Everybody, everybody. We are going further with the teachings of our paramparā. There is so much knowledge. There is one prayer towards Gurujī, Mahāprabhujī, and our Śivanandjī, Mahāprabhujī's disciple, Swami Śivanandjī. The name Śivanandjī here does not mean the Rishikesh Śivanandjī; there are many, many Śivanandjīs. Vivekananda is not only that one Vivekananda. There are many, many Swamis named Vivekananda. We also have Vivek Purī here. But don't think there is only one Vivek Purī. Similarly, this Śivānanda was Mahāprabhujī's very close disciple. Śivarāṅgī was from Chhoṭī Khāṭū. "Chhoti" means the small village. Now it's a big city, but that was a long, long time ago. There are Barī Khāṭū and Choṭī Khāṭū, two places. So many cities are coming together. Sivanandjī was a disciple of Mahāprabhujī. Sivanandjī's real name I don't know, but he was also from a royal family. There was a little king everywhere. But now everyone is king. We said that on the day of the marriage, the wedding day, every man, every boy, every young man, is known as a king. So, boys decide to marry. One day you will be the king, and the next day you will be a supporter to that girl, bringing the money and everything. Also, on that wedding day, she is a queen. Before, nobody could say. Still, it was the kings only, not only in India. Everywhere, in Europe, little, little countries, almost everyone had a king. But there is one country where they were smiling, and they said, "Let people do. We are all kings," he said. And that one? Slovakia. In Slovakia, there was no king. Sometimes Austrians wanted to go and sit there and become a king. So the Slovaks said, "We are king in every home, in every house." So, is it true that Slovaks have no king? It's true, no? Yes. They are still king. That's it. Anyhow, these things go generation after generation. How did the king become? It is coming from the great saint ṛṣis, yogīs. They developed this knowledge and gave the duty to some family or some man. So it is said, "I give." Who said? Gurudev, or Gurudev means any great saint. They brought this discipline, what we call Rāja Yoga. They should protect the people, protect our village and everyone. For that, they gave the name at that time, called Rājā. Rājā means one who is helping, giving everything. And so they brought Rishi one, what you call the lion. They declared the lion as the king of the forest. And so it is that person who has learned... that they choose them as a king. Some were very good, and many made it their children, their children the king, their children the king. But now new generations have come, and Kali Yuga has also brought good things, not just bad things. So they made it that everyone can be a king, and we give the time to one king. If you are good, next year we will also select you as a prime minister or a minister like this. If not, then after four years, bye-bye. So that everybody is equal. Therefore, people were under the thumb with such kings, what we call. But now we are all on the same level, and we are happy. The real king will make you one day for a wedding. But properly, now they also don't know. So this was the ṛṣis, Rājā. So give them the great sense; the ṛṣis gave this duty. There are many stories about that. Now, these programs and knowledge, we got it thanks to our old people who studied, who got schools, made the universities, and everyone is learning. Everyone is very intelligent, and they have all that kind of knowledge. And everyone has freedom. Yes, so we are also like that. Those yogis are bringing all people to that spiritual level. Yoga in daily life gives all kinds of teachings of yoga. That yoga is above religion, so this religion is different. Religion means the relation, and so that relation is called religion. If we bring that spirituality in ourselves, we realize that we are related to God. So there are many, many paths, many, many teachings. Every master is trying their best. But as Holī Gurujī said, there are two kinds of knowledge or teaching. One is only talking about what we call all your knowledge only, that. You go to school always, and you read the books, and read the books, and read the books. Another one is that inside, developing itself, that is going towards God. So Lakṣatī and Vācartī, there are two. Lakṣatī is this, who have one point. That is called becoming one with Brahman. So that we are working, meditating, and so on. That is a part of yoga, to become one with the Cosmic Self. Vāchārthi is who is reading the books and telling the stories; that's also a kind of knowledge. But it will only last till this life. Then again, you have no knowledge of this. It can be that you come as a human or an animal. That is a very big subject about this. Sometimes we are talking about destiny, and where the destiny is, and where our destiny will lead us, that we will come. So Swami Sivanandaji wrote one beautiful bhajan; you like it very much, and many times you are singing. And that bhajan, what do we call it? Parīkṣāya? Hey, what are you singing? I am singing. Hey, don't make a... Very good. So either I sing wrong, or you are singing wrong. It must be somewhere, so we don't know if it's the front tire or the back tire. So, Śivānandjī's bhajans are beautiful, and so it comes to the Vedānta, Vedānta. Many times there are people fighting on it: Dvaita and Advaita. Dvaita is separate. There are two persons sitting, or five persons, and we say these are five people. Who said that? Is that dualism? Oneness, it is a no, there is no dualism. He said, "No, there are not five people there, there is only one." And he said, "Stupid, are you blind?" There are five, and he said, "No, this is a problem." Also, it is said from the science. Science said it is not this. But we said it is. So, how do we come to that oneness? Advaita is Śaṅkarācārya and Dvaita is Madhvācārya. The Madhvāchāryas, still, they are very, very strict people, mostly in South India. South Indians are great learned people, and they have the Sanskrit language. So if you want to learn something, then go to South India. If you go to Rajasthan, like with singing, like you are the Yundaya. So, in one line of bhajan, or the prayer, everything is in one line. That we have to understand. That is like this prayer; this is a prayer. Don't sing with me at all, otherwise again it will all be gone. I know you are perfect, and I am not. So it is said: "Śrī Guru Ātmā Parāptamā Ho Mātma Puruṣottama, Sakal Jag ke Antaryāmī, Cara Car kī Ātmā Prabhu, Cara Car kī Ātmā." Only in this one line, everything is covered. All your jīva, your ātmā, your paramātmā, sakal jaga, the whole world, all creatures, is that only one. Because this is that Śhrī Guru, Ātmā Parvātmā, ho Mahātmā Puruṣottama, sakala jagake antara jāmī charācharakī. So that ātmā is in every creature. There are certain lives which our eyes cannot see. But that one also has that ātmā. So everyone has the ātmā. But you don't understand, we don't understand. But Gurudev has said it, and this is true. And it's short and sweet, like Holī Gurujī was saying. So that this prayer is still long and very, very good. And so, we are in one. Bodies are different, and if you are thinking about your body and that you said it is different, then you are not only the body. Somebody brings your blood and says, "What is that?" It's blood. From where? From my body. So this is blood, not your body. Someone gives you their kidney, so it is given only this piece of meat, not the whole body. So, in our body, how many tattvas are there? Which we are talking about, we could not finish yesterday, is called the Manomaya Kośa, the mind. And mind, you know how strong it is. Even a very tiny mosquito has a mind, very, very clear. That mosquito is waiting for when you will sleep and put off the light. He is not blind. And now he said, "This is peaceful," and the mosquito is coming. But again, he makes sure if he is really deep sleeping. So what does the mosquito do? Nowhere, but near the ear. Yes? How intelligent is that? Near the ear. And many times, what we do as humans, when mosquitoes are singing near our ear, we do slowly, quickly, like this. But the mosquito is gone, and the mosquito said, "Stupid human, you don't know this person. I have gone, and you are beating yourself." So, every creature has knowledge. But, of course, they have more limited knowledge. But humans should never always think that we are the best. Why is the situation in the world like this? It is humans. So if there are such things in the world happening, then definitely the humans are not intelligent, not wise, not kind, etc. So our mind, and the mind of others too—every living being—they know what they want, and they know where they will get it. So, Śrī Guru Ātmā. So Śrī means the protection, the wisdom, the prosperity. What is the biggest property, or what is the very biggest for us? One thinks that I am the richest billionaire. But he is not. He is the slave of the money. And we who are not millionaires, we are not slaves of money. We always take the money and utilize it. We utilize money. They put it in the bank only, and always they think, "It's my money, my money," but it's not your money. So who is enjoying? Who? We people are enjoying. So this is a māyā. So, ātmā. Tākṣya Ātmā. So, Śrī Guru Ātmā Paramātmā Homa Ātmā Puruṣottama Sakala Jagat Antaryāmī, Cāracaraka. He is everyone's soul in the body. So we will talk about this whole year; this subject will be. So don't worry. Slowly, slowly. So we will continue, and yoga is the highest of the highest. God Krishna is known as Yogēśvara, and Yogēśvara also is Śiva. So that knowledge is that one, and the Bhagavad Gītā is declaring that there are eighteen different yogas. So there are 18 chapters in the Bhagavad Gītā. And in the beginning and at the end, it said yoga, bhakti yoga, sannyāsa yoga, etc. So that is everything. It is there. So we are very happy to know, and I wish you a happy journey. I will be in India now for 20 days. Now someone said, "No, I don't know." So, I can come back quickly, or I will stay longer. So, anyhow, if you can go on to come, you are welcome. See the power of India. 46 degrees. Yes, and you have hair without, like this. Your ears are burning, so don't cut your hair like this. And suddenly, here in Europe, but more than Europe, in the Himalayas, and your ears become, you know what? It's called potato chips. Because they are frozen, and you said, "Do like this, the ear will fall down, so don't cut your hair like this. God gave us this hair to protect our ears and everything." So look, here it was 18 degrees minus, snow, and I was walking here, but I... I did not put a cap, only with this hair, and I didn't feel cold. Yeah, only one thing was it. When I exhale, it's coming like steam. But when I inhale, so quickly my moustache is with snow. Really! And when I exhale, it melts. Again, inhale. It's a piece of the ice, you know, and then you do like this to your nose. So here, the nose is frozen. Therefore, don't cut your hair till here, okay? Let it have your hair till here, or cut all and then have a nice cap. So, I don't know what kind of fashion you have now. So everybody is looking like a bush. In the Sahara. There is sand everywhere, and the goats and chickens have eaten something, a bush. So some things remain a little bit like this, so don't run in such a way. Once there was this fashion where everyone had torn their jeans, and jeans are like this: you cannot, only two positions. Either standing or lying. Either like this, or like that. But when you have such a nice yoga and daily life dress, you can run, you can sit, you can sleep, you can do everything. And your dress will not have a bad smell because it is always blowing air inside. And when you get up, you like to do your dress like this. But you cannot do it with jeans. You can only do it maybe like this. So now, this kind of haircut. So that's not good. If you did already, then cut it all. Grow nicely, and now summer is coming, summer is coming, so nicely, like Vivek Purī's head. And then, let it be like me. There is one, one... not a sannyāsī, a different kind of spiritual, and he has long hair and a beard. And his old disciples have the same kind of hair, looking like this. Yes, always talking like this. And the beard, why not? Because one walks on the footsteps of the Master. Yes, we are walking on the steps. So, Master, as the Master, the disciples will also have the same thing. But I'm not going so far. You can cut your hair, lace. Complete, or long, as you like. If you have a beard or long hair, you need not wash it every day. And if you have no hair, then one soap, you need for five years. How is commercial, no? Just because if you take your soap and you put cleaning in your mouth, head, which you just now saved nicely, so you make it like this, it's going out. You know, it is sliding till where. So there are certain things, good things. It's okay, enjoy. Enjoy, and save the hair. It is good to get more energy, prāṇa. Yes, and if you have this hair, then you say this is an antenna. So that's why all messes go so quickly. I have good range, and the other one has no range. Yes, really. So this is a kind of antenna. And one is waiting, one is waiting, when I will get my grey hair. When I will get my hair all white. Yes, it's not easy to get white hair. The twenty, twenty-five year old person cannot get white. You have to wait. When you come to the pension, then 70% gray. But when you come to the hundred, beautiful silver. Yes. So be proud. Be proud, white. But everyone sees that you are about 82 years old, and your hair is so beautifully black, your mustache also, and people are laughing. And someone said, once it happened, two or three ladies were sitting together, where? At the airport. So they were sitting, two or three, and the elderly person came, about 85 or 82 years old. But made all complete black cloth. And one person was talking in some other language, which I could understand. And this lady said, "These ladies, who are about 18, 20, 25 years old, they are also ladies, so they were laughing, 'This old wood, old wood, and still thinks to have the crack hair like this.'" So, and what will the other one say? Respect. You will be respected, male or female. Everyone will respect you, and if not respect, at least one is definitely respected. In the bus, they will say, "Please sit, grandfather or grandmother." That's why I will always keep my beard; they give me the sitting chair. Okay? So those who have cut their hair till here, clear it all. Then the next seminar when we come, it will be beautiful. And then more and more and more. Long hair is very good. The women are in the higher position, so they don't have any more hair. They are higher, but man is still like a, like a, you know, there's one in the jungle, there's a bear, bear, bear. So we are all men, like a bear. Only a little here, hair, no hair. Even your grandson doesn't want to, or granddaughter, little one, doesn't want to dare to give you a kiss here, because this hair is so much. So, oh man, even your grandchild doesn't give you a kiss. Don't save it. Don't save. While saving, you will not be a woman. Śiva, Śiva, oh, oh my God, oh my God, oh... my God. Oh my God, oh my God... Devadhī Deva, Deveśvara Mahādeva, Ārādhya Bhagavān Śrīdīpṇālaya Mahāprabhujī kī, Satguru Svāmī Madhavānandajī Bhagavān, Satya Sanātana Dharma kī, Oṁ Śānti, Śānti,... Hari Oṁ. Praṇām Gurujī Gurudev, Hari Om dear friends. This seminar was a really nice time to be with our Gurudev, and after a few months without rain, we have rain again. Especially in this season, the rain is very important. Nature needs this rain to become green. Also, every disciple needs such a rain of love and wisdom for growing and to make nice green bushes. Vishwa Gurujī said a lot of things about Guru Dev, and now it is almost one year from the time when Sādhvī Ānandī and I went to Śrī Devapurījī Gufā. Usually, so people ask, "Did you see Dev Purījī?" No, but now after one year, some things come into the right position, like playing Tetris. Everything comes into the right place. Ale teď po tom roce a něco to do sebe všechno začíná zapadat, tak jakože začíná se rozsvěcet. A také jsem o tom posledním mluvil tady ve Střílkách. We always talk about Mahāprabhujī, always about Devpurījī. But we must be like one sentence, what Vishwa Gurujī said, I think yesterday, "If you meet God, God will tell, 'Go to your guru also.'" So, if you know a story about Upaniṣad, if God appears in front of you, to whom will you greet first? Your master or God? Yes. The answer is your master. Why? Because without a master, we will not know anything about God. Without Viśva Gurujī, we will not know anything about paramparā. And if we talk about something about Alak Purījī, Dev Purījī, everything that we know about our paramparā, we know through Viśva Gurujī. And it's very easy to forget this. Why? Because Vishwagurujī, Swāmījī is always talking about Mahāprabhujī and Devapurījī and Alakpurījī. He never talks about himself. But I think that is a very important thing to know, that without our Gurudev, we will not be on this path. We will not know anything about our paramparā. And that is, I think, the more important thing to have all the time in our mind. Because you know from Viśva Gurujī, because we don't know Hindi. And how will we understand what Gurujī was talking about and giving a lecture on? Only through the lecture and satsaṅg of Viśva Gurujī. We know that Guruji said, "To which doctor will you go? To the doctor in the picture, or to a real, alive doctor?" And that is the beauty of yoga in daily life, that is the power of yoga in daily life, that we have a live guru, and not only for lecture, but also for coming here and greeting and getting a blessing and having this, even. For a few seconds, but this contact with Guru Dev. It is not so easy to have this contact with Gurudev. Also, for us, it is something completely normal. Sometimes we are a little angry, and I didn't have my five minutes. But try to imagine what happens in some other systems. Maybe once in your life you had the opportunity to be in the same hole. Or have you never seen alive what you think is your guru? And such seminars, like Strelky, Vape, or any other seminar satsaṅg with Viśva Gurujī, it is nothing; it is not something normal. That is not normal. That is the miracle. And thank you for this miracle. Thank you for this opportunity, that we had a real opportunity to be in the satsaṅg, to be in this energy. And what is more important from us is only expected not to be the iron spoon, but the wooden spoon. A jediné, co se od nás očekává, je, abychom nebyli ta kovová lžička, ale dřevěná lžička. Víte, že když tu dřevěnou lžičku dáte do medu, a dáte tam taky tu kovovou lžičku? And when after a month you take both those spoons out of the honey, a good wash: the metal spoon is without taste, but the wooden spoon remains nice honey. And now Vishwagurujī will be 20 days in India, and the wooden spoon will survive this hurry. How do you do?
