The Serpent's Blessing: A Story of Kuṇḍalinī

The path to consciousness unfolds through the inner kingdom. A man sought Kuṇḍalinī awakening. A master gave him a flute. He blew it continuously for half an hour. A cobra emerged from a bush. He coaxed the snake into a basket. He planned to display his awakened Kuṇḍalinī. Resting under a banyan tree, a monkey stole the basket. The monkey opened it, saw the king cobra, and became paralyzed with fear. The master felt sorry for the monkey. This story warns against chasing such experiences. Another man searched for the wish-fulfilling Kalpavṛkṣa tree. Sitting beneath it, he wished for water, food, a bed, a net, and his wife. Each appeared. Then he feared a ghost, and a ghost materialized. Greed leads to loss. True Kuṇḍalinī is energy, knowledge, light connecting to the cosmic. Rest and meditate instead of forcing practices.

"Kuṇḍalinī is your energy, your knowledge, many good things. It is your light connecting to the cosmic."

"Don’t run behind such things."

Āj to yate hi sāyabhyaānandaka, caraṇakamalapadahanganiya. Śrī Dīp Nārāyaṇa Bhagavān Jī Jai. Someone among you will translate this bhajan if you know it. If you don’t know it, then don’t insert different lines. Kundalini and chakras, the mind and consciousness, life and the cosmic self – let us come to this subject. But we must proceed systematically, as if climbing a building step by step. Similarly, we need to understand the life of a human being. Every creature possesses some energy, a path to ascend towards the highest consciousness. How many different souls and lives exist within your kingdom? Your kingdom. Each and every one of you has a vast, vast kingdom. And this kingdom is beautiful. There are five steps that we have to go through, step by step, and even when we reach the top, we must also come down – it is not easy. That is what people refer to when they speak of Kuṇḍalinī awakening. There is a person who has experienced the awakening of Kuṇḍalinī. What does he do? He has a beautiful basket. This is number one, and he is the master of Kuṇḍalinī. Yes. You all have the desire to awaken Kuṇḍalinī. Gurudev told a beautiful story when I was speaking with him about Kuṇḍalinī. He said, “I will tell you,” and he narrated a very nice story. A person who was curious to awaken Kuṇḍalinī went into the forest, meditating, “My Kuṇḍalinī.” He read the book, “The Kuṇḍalinī Serpent.” Yes, now everyone is curious. The serpent within my spinal column, and its energy rises up – how nice! So, one master gave him a beautiful flute, saying that this flute would awaken his Kuṇḍalinī. He sat near a bush in the jungle and began learning to play the flute. It is not easy; you have to learn. If you can awaken it through learning, then Kuṇḍalinī can come. So he had a flute, and he blew it continuously for half an hour. And you? You might say “Om.” Let’s see. Om. Count it mentally yourself. (Odpočítejte. Mentálně. Hluboký nádech.) Kuṇḍalinī will not awaken. It is nothing. He sat there, blowing. Half an hour – that is what we have to learn. Yes. When you blow a conch, you will see how long you can sustain it. But some can blow it continuously. This is the technique of awakening your Kuṇḍalinī. So, I give you freedom. Through all the cakras, and each cakra for about fifteen minutes, all cakras simultaneously, from the Mūlādhāra, awaken the Kuṇḍalinī. In the bush appeared a big cobra while he was still playing the flute. The cobra came. This is Kuṇḍalinī. She does not want, but he is now in the state of Kuṇḍalinī awakening, as if in a trance. The cobra is in ānanda. Then the cobra can rise up. At first, the man ran away. But he returned. The master is always here; sometimes you go away, but after a few years, you will return. “Swamiji, I am here again.” Swamiji says, “Well, of course, you were in freedom. How was that freedom?” “My wife, my godchild, she left me. Gurudev, I am here again.” Why not? The kingdom of Gurudev is endless. Once you have God’s blessing and mantra, it will accompany you to Brahmaloka. But how long will you have to wait? If you break something, you end up in a different creature, in another creation. So the man was blowing, playing his flute like this. He had a nice basket, and he coaxed the snake into it. Still blowing, he covered the basket with one hand. Now your Kuṇḍalinī is inside. Now he goes home, ready to show everyone, and all will come to see his awakened Kuṇḍalinī. He will remove the teeth and poison glands, making your Kuṇḍalinī powerless. So you remain in Mūlādhāra all the time. So he took that cobra. It was a very hot day, and there was a big, beautiful banyan tree. A nice Siddha. Nice. So he wanted to rest. Now, a person who wants Kuṇḍalinī awakening must have a Master. But that master must also know what Kuṇḍalinī is. That man started a business of awakening Kuṇḍalinī, awakening Kuṇḍalinī, with many, many people. He said, “I don’t just awaken. I saw your Kuṇḍalinī.” Yes, ten rupees. He played his flute, opened the basket, and the cobra came out, well-trained, coiling like a cup. He took the snake. “Can I awaken Kuṇḍalinī on your back?” No, no, no. 99.9% of the time, people run away. When Kuṇḍalinī awakening actually happens, the poor doctor cannot help. Of course, masters and yogīs can do this. It’s your Kuṇḍalinī. It’s your karma. Now, what is awakening? You should feel it. So, what is that Kuṇḍalinī? But still, someone is very curious. That man was sitting under the banyan tree. He had a new Kuṇḍalinī – a very strong black cobra, about two meters long. Why is he doing this? It’s a blessing. Kuṇḍalinī is everywhere. So what can you do? In the distance was a beautiful monkey with a long tail, a male, who thought, “This man is bringing something good in his basket – maybe honey or tasty food – I want it.” But the master is present, the man is present. Now the monkey is hypnotizing because the Kuṇḍalinī is there. It has a slight effect on others as well. The monkey seemed to say, “Man, go away. This is my basket. Man, go.” He was making gestures. You know how monkeys behave; if you don’t give something, they act that way – hypnotizing. So, those who do not know what Kuṇḍalinī is: Kuṇḍalinī is your energy, your knowledge, many good things. It is your light connecting to the cosmic. Nowadays, people write many, many books. Anyone can write something. One says there is no Kuṇḍalinī; another writes it is a snake. Others say it is sexual. “Oh, this Kuṇḍalinī book is good, can you give it to me?” Yes, but the reality is not there. Well, the monkey is hypnotizing. And what happens? The man felt the urge to urinate. Of course, we should not urinate under a holy tree. As far as possible, avoid urinating under trees. But if there is no other way, then it’s different. The tree is great; the tree is the real mother. You call your child, and the mother is happy. My nappy from my child – the tree is also okay. The tree gives everything. If we throw a stone, this mother throws us fruit. So the monkey signaled, and the man moved a little way off, about 50 meters away, behind a bush. The monkey was overjoyed: “Now my techniques are perfect! My Kuṇḍalinī is coming!” Great. I am teaching you the Kuṇḍalinī techniques: the five elements, the body, energy, mind, knowledge, and freedom. Ānanda. The monkey jumped down from one branch to another and snatched the basket by its string. The monkey, having learned from humans, jumped high up into a very thin, tiny tree and looked at the man. The man said, “Oh my God, poor monkey, I made a mistake. I might have taken a little; poor, poor monkey.” And what did the monkey do? He said, “I am not poor. Yeah, yeah.” And how was he sitting? He sat comfortably like on a good chair with a table, back legs dangling. The basket was in his lap, and he was looking. He tore the cloth and opened the basket. And Kuṇḍalinī Amṛta! Oh my God, very beautiful. We call it Nāgrāj, the king cobra. There are many snakes, but only one is known as the king. You know that, don’t you? King cobra. So the cobra, Kuṇḍalinī, hypnotized the monkey. The monkey saw everything as yellow. From the top of the tiny tree to the ground, he urinated and defecated. Now he wanted to escape. Any movement, and Kuṇḍalinī puts you in Mahāsamādhi. If you move, he says – can you imagine? Next time you come to India, perhaps we will meet the king cobra, but don’t come close. A king is a king. He couldn’t get it out. He thought there was honey inside, but it wasn’t honey – something very funny. And that “funny” means… My dear, the master of the cobra is like, “Oh my God, please, save the… not the cobra, the monkey.” So, who comes when Kuṇḍalinī awakens? The master isn’t worried about the cobra or such things. He is only sorry for that man. Therefore, don’t run behind such things. It is written in many books about many samādhis, and they write about doing prāṇāyāma for five hours, and this and that. This means your brain will be completely finished. So you are neither here nor there. There is something written, but how should you practice? And not constantly like that. Don’t think that ṛṣis were only sitting in meditation all day. In the Himalayas, in a cave with no humans around. And do you know who is there? Yes, leopard, tiger, other animals. The yogī sits, and a leopard comes and pulls him out. And Hari Om. Tatsat. My dear, don’t think like that. Even the yogīs make protection, many things. So, don’t just write anything in a book. One Swami said, “The Himalayan caves are all occupied; there are no more caves.” So I said… So now, we return to the many aspects of Kuṇḍalinī. And this Kuṇḍalinī in our body is energy, good energy, but many… What all is there in this body? How many creatures are in your body? How many beautiful rivers? There is also a lake, a forest. In this body, it is very good. Holi Gurujī sang a very nice bhajan, and tomorrow we shall sing that bhajan. And what is that bhajan? No, no, no. Sadvai de kajab ratah mara sutra. So, don’t run behind, don’t do overly strong techniques, anything. Otherwise, even the master won’t save you from this disease. Therefore, we have everything. Beautiful. Beautiful. Enjoy. Eat. Drink. Milk. And relax and meditate. Sleep. That is the best part. So Kuṇḍalinī will come there. These are the beautiful stories of how Kuṇḍalinī comes. Then that man, the other one, was very curious. It is said there is a beautiful tree – what do they call it? Kalpavṛkṣa. Yes, it is the Kalpavṛkṣa tree. People are still good, pursuing many educations: doctors of doctors, professors of professors, judges of judges, farmers of farmers. All are so good. They search for this tree, Kalpavṛkṣa. If you go under this tree – tomorrow we go to the forest, Strīlakṣmī forest, maybe some tree is that – under that tree, whatever you ask for, it will give you immediately: gold, money, vodka, tigers, sleeping, resting, a good bed, everything. Everything under the tree, but when you step out, nothing. So, one man was searching for it. One day, he was going somewhere to bring his wife back home. She had been staying with her parents for some days, and the husband came to take her. It was a very hot day. Now you also have very hot days. So there was again a beautiful tree called the Alp and the Galapag. He sat down to rest and thought, “I am thirsty. Nice cold water would be good.” Immediately a beautiful pot with cool water appeared. He said, “Oh, I have no glass.” A glass appeared. Whatever he thought manifested: “I am hungry,” and food appeared – what should he eat? Everything: yogurt, milk, salad, fruits, everything. So he rested. He lay down and thought, “These stones are uncomfortable; I’m so tired. I want a bed.” A nice bed with a pillow and mattress appeared. Mosquitoes came – “Oh God, so many mosquitoes! There’s no mosquito net.” Suddenly, a beautiful mosquito net. He exclaimed, “How beautiful everything is! I think if my wife were here, she would be so happy.” And she was standing there! Oh God, beautiful. Then he looked up and thought, “It must be some ghost that can kill me.” Whatever he thought, from the tree came a ghost. Oh, could it kill me? Yes, it will throw me out, out of the top of the tree. There is nothing. This is what we have – some kind of desire to become a billionaire, a great person, with ministers, money, gold, etc. Don’t look like that. God will give us what we need. And when God is giving, He is giving. He is giving, and we are giving. That’s it. That is how a greedy person loses everything. Then they go to play somewhere – I don’t know where they play with money, where they play. It’s a casino, a casino, a kino. Okay, I don’t need to learn this word. So, let’s come to the Kuṇḍalinī we have in our body. Let’s begin from the very beginning: the hair on the body. Hair is not part of the physical body in the same way; it is an element of Ākāśa. You can cut hair without feeling pain, even though it grows. So with the five elements, our hair is not a combination of two together. That’s why, when you are afraid, your body may not react, but your hair stands up. When does the hair stand up? I will tell you tomorrow. I wish you good night, and so, let us come to Kuṇḍalinī. Nāgrāj Nāgrāj Hari Om, Deep Nārāyaṇ Bhagavān Dev Puruṣa Mahādev Satguru Svāmī Madhavānandjī Bhagavān Dev Ādi Dev Dev Īśvara Mahādev Dev Ādi Dev Dev Īśvara Mahādev Viśvaguru Mahāmaṇḍaleśvarānanda Maheśvarānanda Purījī Dev Akhāṛā Hari Om.
