Celebration of Vishwaguruji's Birthday

Today is a day of grace and celebration, marking a confluence of sacred occasions.

Being with the Guru is the most important thing for a disciple. His presence on this earth opened our eyes to divine knowledge. In his presence, we change our quality, like a tree near sandalwood takes on its fragrance. It is difficult to bring people together, but just as bees gather around their queen, we are drawn to the light of the Guru. That light incarnated on this day. Today is also the festival of Rakṣā Bandhan, an ancient celebration with many explanations. One tells that through grace, a sister was created for Gaṇeśa's sons. This day allows us to form bonds of brotherhood and sisterhood through love, a connection more profound than blood. We are grateful for the Guru's physical presence. The day includes the full moon, which completes a month dedicated to Shiva. The moon governs the mind and emotions, influencing life like the rains. Rakṣā Bandhan celebrates the sacred bond between brothers and sisters. Humans create festivals and worship; without purposeful events, idleness leads to conflict. Many spiritual days converge now.

Praṇām Gurudev. Hari Om, dear brothers and sisters. We hear that today is a really special day for us. Every day when we are with Gurudev is a special day. Every day when we are in the thoughts with the Guru is also a special day. Being with the Guru on Guru Pūrṇimā day is the most important thing in the life of a disciple. But also, today is the birthday of our Gurudev. Without his coming on this planet, I think all our lives would be completely different. He opened our eyes and gave that divine knowledge. As he said in one bhajan, it is only in the presence of Gurudev that we change our quality. Like a tree in the presence of sandalwood changes its smell and takes on the sandal fragrance. Like a wooden spoon in honey takes on the sweet taste. We hope that we also will change our quality. You know, it is very hard to bring people together. Viśva Gurujī sometimes jokes that people are something like frogs. It is impossible to measure the weight of live frogs because you put one frog on the scale, and two are jumping out. You put two in, and one more is jumping. That is the pity, but somehow it is nature. But we also see with the bees: when the queen is present, all bees are in one place. When the queen bee goes somewhere, all the bees go to that place. The same thing is with bacteria. We know how Viśva Gurujī is moving through the world; we are also trying to move with him. That is the sign, that is the beauty. When somebody has such a light inside, we want to be near that light. And that light has come incarnate on the earth on this day. We learn a lot of things through the presence of our Gurudev. One is also that today is a really nice festival: Rakṣā Bandhan. That is a very old festival. The beauty in Sanātana Dharma is that you have many explanations for that festival because Sanātana Dharma is here on this earth almost as old as humanity itself. Because of that, you will find many, many explanations about the same festival, as it is a hundred- and hundred-thousand-year-old festival. One explanation of Rakṣā Bandhan is that Lord Gaṇeśa had two sons, and they were very sad because they didn't have a sister. They asked for a sister, and Ṛṣi Nārada also intervened and helped. Through the grace and knowledge of Gaṇeśajī, and through a kind of trade and through the flame, they had Śāntimā. When we are also very sad that we don't have a sister or brother, on this day it's possible to have not only a blood sister or blood brother, but through our love we band this trait, Rakṣābandha. That is even more connected than a blood connection. This is something very important for humanity: that everybody is brother and sister together. Not just said, "dear brothers and sisters," but felt in the heart that we are brothers and sisters. We are all together, brother and sister. I learned in India from one old man that when we are guru brothers and sisters, this relationship is much more than a blood connection. That is also one great thing that Viśvagurujī teaches us: not just to come to the satsaṅg and practice yoga, but to become brothers and sisters with real connection and real love. Through that, we will also understand this unity—the relationship between brotherhood and sisterhood. Thanks to him, we also know what this unity is. Once more, we are grateful to Śrī Devapurījī that he sent Viśvagurujī to this part of the earth. You know from Līlā Amṛt, and once more, thanks to Śrī Devapurījī that we have this opportunity to have that great light in physical form. Once more, happy birthday. It is so nice that four things come together on this one day. In showing our love and thanks, we will give you some traditional presents: a flower mala, a shawl, and dakṣiṇā. Vṛttisārūpyamitaratra. It was the best day, with many, many occasions. First of all, it is the full moon. Now, this full moon is completing this one month. Like we have January, February, March, April, etc., so according to India and according to astrology, there are, of course, twelve months. But every third year, one month is added. So every third year, there are thirteen months. Then how many months do you have? So it means when we come to the twelfth or thirteenth month, we are counting our life one year more. But these are different things in astrology. Every month has its meaning. So this month, today is completing. It is the month of Shiva. It's monsoon, so this month is completed, and the next one will begin tomorrow, called Bhādrava. Also, it is raining more, and everything is green, the trees and everything. It also has its meaning. There are many spiritual days when ṛṣis were born, many things. For the Moon, the Moon is very important. The Moon, our mind, and the principle of the mind is the Moon. The Moon is that principle of the water. Water is the movable, and what we call the moon is the principle of the water. Water is the principle of the movements, and movement is the principle of our emotions. Different days from the moon and earth, with the water, rain, create pressure. When the pressure is there on that day, many, many people have problems: migraines, very heavy headaches. There are two kinds of headache. One is always on one side. When the pressure goes, then your headache is also gone. So when it's tending in the clouds, the edge is clouding in the tending in the clouds, but that time your headache is yet releasing. So this pressure, which is from the... and water, so this is a very, a science of this part we can say. So every month, the moon has an effect. The moon is a protector. The moon is bringing rain, and also the moon is bringing the dry. So this is one thing. Other things are different. They have for worshipping many different kinds of trees. Every different kind of animal is also worshipped. There is even one day of the snakes, and people worship the snake. It has big meanings, so every day is something. Rakṣā Bandhan is a friendship between brothers and sisters, or friends to friends, or brothers to brothers, sisters to sisters. So this is a kind of relation of friendship that is very important. So this is the Pūrṇimā, and we should see this evening the full moon. The full moon has power, but the dark moon has more power. Day by day, it is changing. So this is what we call this day of the moon, which is very important. In some countries, there is some kind of event. In India, there are two events. One is this full moon of this month. The second is the day of the national holiday. On this day, also in Austria, there is some kind of Christian festival. It is said that the Holy Mother is going up. I don't know, but this is what they say. That is very important. And what? And second, or the third, last one. Also, we think it's my birthday, so Holy Mother Mary goes, and her son is coming down. That's it. So there are many festivals for children. For humans, human needs mean some kind of argument. If people, the humans, have nothing to do, then they will fight, then quarrel. There are problems with couples, problems with families, or they go for drinking. When there is nothing to do, humans are more troubled. That's why there are always some kind of events, and we worship that. Even we are worshiping the war. When the war is stopped, then we worship, we say, "Thanks, God." So, there are many things. Today, I think after a long time, I'm here for my birthday, and exactly here, Holy Gurujī was here on this day, my birthday.
