Guru Purnima Satsang with Vishwaguruji

Bhajans are a vital spiritual practice that transforms energy and preserves knowledge. They are distinct from emotional kirtan, often structured as a dialogue containing the wisdom of sages. Poetry is the language of the wise, encapsulating truth. Singing activates the vagus nerve and requires an open heart center. Bhajans teach effectively because they engage curiosity, making knowledge memorable and transmissible across generations. They change one's state, connecting the singer to the composer's energy through synchronized brain waves. They serve as prayer, meditation, and sādhanā, exerting influence whether the meaning is understood or not. This practice is a cornerstone of the tradition.

"Within the bhajans are the original words of great sages."

"Bhajans are your sādhanā. Bhajans are your satsaṅg and your meditation."

Filming location: Strilky, Czech Republic

Praṇām Gurudeva, Hari Om, dear brothers and sisters. Today is a truly great day. It is full moon, Thursday, which means it is also Guru Pūrṇimā. Today is the Rakṣā Bandhan festival, and most importantly, it is the birthday of our Gurudev. I was feeling a little stressed when Swāmījī began to speak, wondering what he would ask me to talk about. Thank God it was bhajans. Bhajans are such a good topic. I would say bhajans are among the most important things in our life. And also, a little stress is good, because with a little stress you also develop. But bhajans are excellent against stress. Why? I remember once Viśva Gurujī said: "When you have problems with your practice, with your sādhanā—you come home after a whole day of work with a lot of stress. You are at home, you are relaxed, but still you bring everything from outside into your home." Sometimes, as we all know, we are not so inspired for practice. In that moment, the best thing is to start with bhajans, because bhajans completely change our state of mind. Bhajans are not only chanting. When you sing kīrtans, kīrtans are very nice. Kīrtans are repeating the name of God, but when you chant kīrtans, you have a lot of emotion. In one moment you are very high, but that is only emotion. You feel so good, but you know after that you go down. Sometimes this emotion is so big that it's hard to control. Bhajans are completely different. In bhajans, it is not always but usually a question and answer. When a disciple asks the master, the guru, the guru usually answers in the way of the bhajan. When you listen and know the translation of the bhajans, you will usually see this pattern of question and answer. Within the bhajans are the original words of great sages. In poetry, it is very visible when somebody is changing the meaning, and because of that, it is very hard to make a poem. It is also a way to preserve the original knowledge that is in that song. He also said that the language of the wise is poetry. I must be completely open. In school, I hated poetry, especially the part when the professor asked, "And what does this writer mean with that poem?" Oh, my god. But once, before I met Viśva Gurujī, somebody gave me a book, Gītañjali by Rabīndranāth Ṭhākur, and in that moment I realized poetry is something completely different. Poetry is so great, and inside is the knowledge. That is the language of the wise. We hear that it is not easy to compose a bhajan, because for that you need to have the Anāhata cakra, an open Anāhata cakra. I also learned and heard why we sing prayers. Some people say that God is more responsive to our prayer when we sing it. Modern language would say, for activating the vagus nerve, it is very important to sing. And it is not easy to sing—to open the voice and also to be in synchronicity with the people singing with you is also something. All the time when you are singing bhajans, you are repeating the knowledge, and that is also svādhyāya. We know that yoga teaches through stories and bhajans. Why? If you give just a theoretical knowledge lecture, everybody will sleep. Very few people will remember. But every one of us is a little curious: what is next? How does the story go? In the moment when curiosity comes out, our brain is eagerly wanting to remember something. Maybe in one moment you are not able to understand the knowledge within the bhajan, but that bhajan will transfer through generations. Through that bhajan, the knowledge will be preserved. As I said at the beginning, singing bhajan completely changes our energy, not in an emotional way. You know that Viśwagurujī does not like it when there is too much emotion—that is not real knowledge, that is more hormonal singing; it is not love, that is hormonal love. But with real love, real feeling inside, that bhajan will change us. That bhajan, when we say Śrīdīpnāya Bhagavad Gītā or Sūrdās Gītā, that means that is Lālā Nānjī. It is already like we are making, you know, on the computer a link to some page. In that moment when you are singing that bhajan, you are in that energy, and you are also connected with that great sage who composed and gave that bhajan. Because when you are thinking of somebody, your brain waves are synchronizing—that is said in modern physics. But when you say in yoga you should think of your Gurudeva, some will say that is fanatic. But it's true, because it's in physics now. When you sing bhajans, you are in that energy, and when you're in that energy, you change. As one bhajan says, "Darśan, change me like a worm to the wasp." When I went to my first summer seminar, at that time Bhajanand was singing bhajans. I must say that for me it was a very hard time because I didn't understand all this. But slowly, slowly, I understood the meaning of the bhajan—not completely, just a little glimpse. Truly, when you are not feeling good, when you have some problems, bhajans are a prayer. Bhajans are your sādhanā. Bhajans are your satsaṅg and your meditation. If you know the meaning of that bhajan, it has an influence on you. But if you don't know the meaning, that bhajan has a great influence on you too, because those words, that energy inside, changes all our phenomena. When you are at satsaṅg and many people are coming and greeting Viśva Gurujī, maybe one part of our brain is thinking, "Yes," and we feel we don't have a satsaṅg. But we have darśan and we have bhajan, and that is everything we need in our life. Siddhi number one. Hari Om. Today was a big day with many, many programs. Rakṣābandhan—the children did very nicely. It's a memory, so you should take it home. There are nice ones made by hand, different kinds of rakhi. Mānsā Devī went to the market in India and bought nice things, but our luggage remained behind. They searched everything. Nowadays, in airplanes, they are very conscious, clear, and correct in bringing the luggage. From the beginning, when you go to the counter to put your luggage in, the person typing and writing and giving you your airplane seat—every counter has a camera. The person giving, the person writing, the person moving, and even the person putting the label on it. Then, after it goes through all the checking (we don't know where, but all very seriously), they see what is inside without looking, taking, or opening your luggage. Then it comes to where your luggage will be, and when they see that the passenger whose luggage this is goes towards the flight, then your luggage goes in. Yes. It is not that you can say, "OK, I go back, I don't want to go," and then they will not take your luggage. So sometimes, for half an hour, we have to wait to take all the luggage from the person who doesn't want to go. In the airplane's hold, every luggage is on camera, and all the film is there. The luggage is taken out at the destination and comes to the belt. Until then, they are observing for the safety of the traveler and for overall security. So, why does luggage get lost? There is something wrong. Our luggage—we were waiting, one luggage didn't come, and they did not put a seal on my luggage. Nervous people. But the luggage was there, and they showed the video of how well it was traveling to Vienna. But it was not there, so we asked the Air India office again, and they sent a message from Vienna. They said, "Luggage is in Delhi. We don't know if it went back." And they said, "Exactly, it is the Swāmījī's luggage." Inside were dry vegetables from the bushes, something Ayurvedic, my medicines, things like that. Yesterday, Alagīs came to Vienna and said they brought it to our āśram. This is not only with Air India; all airlines have these rules. But there are some countries where they land and say it didn't come, it went somewhere. So Mānsā Devī said it will come, and I said, "Where is the Rakṣā Bandhan?" But our children made very nice thread and made them. This is not only for children, but also for you, to have a memory or such an ornament. So, if you want to have it, you can go to some of the people who are selling something here. I don't go there in the selling market. It's hot. Is there a fan? I have many fans. But, okay, please, anyhow. Life is very precious for all, not only our people, but also for the airplanes and all. So there is a great deal of safety, but still, sometimes when a mouse goes out... You remember that today, on this day, something we always—when I am here on my birthday or something, at this time—we are always doing something good. At this time, we decided to collect donations for getting the ashram in Ukraine. So before you go, you can give something. Thank you very much. Try to do some fundraising in your village, city, or among your friends, etc. There are really many, many bhaktas who are very devoted to our paramparā. They have also written in the Russian language, for example, The Hidden Powers in Humans, Yoga, our Yoga in Daily Life book, and Līlā Amṛt. We don't know how many they printed or how much money comes; we don't know. Not these people, but some people do it. It doesn't matter; the main thing is it is going and printing somewhere. Also in China, Līlā Amṛt and these books are in Chinese and are on the market. But which company, which person, we don't know, and we don't know what language is there. But people send messages, so that's good. When we have our center, this is the root. These roots are everywhere, so our Yoga in Daily Life will live long. You know, the name Yoga in Daily Life is already in the world, and it is very successful. But at the same time, there are jealous people who try to talk negatively, etc. But negative and positive go together. If there is only positive and no negative, then we don't have a light, yes? Both cables are together. So the negative cable burns, and the other one is lighting. So we are a light, and they are burning, and that's it. We shall, and we have this year, I think, again some meeting some days here, and I would like to make something more for you all. You should make a Yoga in Daily Life certificate as quickly as possible, and then we have a certificate from the university. We already have affiliation with that university. They wanted to give a diploma, but then our Prime Minister Modi intervened and said it should only be named "yoga." But we worked very hard, and our university is Yoga in Daily Life. Like some other Swamis—they also died, but they have a university in America. This diploma or certificate from the university is very, very important. Also, I think in Maribor there is only "yoga," not "yoga in daily life." But we have Yoga in Daily Life. So you can study from a distance. It is from the University of Jodhpur, and we have that in our college in Jādan. In our college, affiliated with the University of Jodhpur, you should make your certificate from our university, our College of Yoga and Life in Jādan. You can go there, or you can study from a distance. I don't know what they must ask the priest, but it's very important. Or you can go to Jādan āśram, do karma yoga there also, and complete your university studies. I think it is three years; it will become five years. Then we will offer a university diploma with yoga, but that will be together: the university yoga and the Yoga in Daily Life certificate. Then you can teach everywhere. You can create your own yoga company, or teach anywhere. But we should not create competition, like in a little village like Střílky, there should not be three teachers teaching the same thing; definitely different. You can teach all together, each giving one subject. This is your subject: Saṅkt Prakṣālana. Another one is prāṇāyāma, and another is that specialty of the Barikhatu Praṇām. So one has Kriyā Sādhanā, and another is what we call Kuṇḍalinī. We have so many faculties. After one certificate from the college, you can specialize. Let's say we have many faculties: Saṅkti Prakāśana, Anuṣṭhāna, Kriyā Yoga, Āsana... we have many. So you can do one. We have one school, and ten people are teachers. It's good because they have this subject, they have that subject. It's something beautiful, no? What do you say? Thank you. We have here, you know, in these countries, when you see the map, how many orange flags are there? But we need flags in other countries where there is not an orange flag. Therefore, you have to go to Ukraine. Bring the orange flag, and let us make at least in a few places that kind of ashram which is their own property. When we have rented, we don't know. It is like this: we have a beautiful body. We love our body. We want to live a long life, and we have knowledge of everything. But this body is rented. Suddenly, the heart says, "Finished. Everything is gone." But we want this heart to continue in different hearts. So we have many ashrams in Croatia—some rented, some our own property. In Slovenia, Croatia, Czech, Vienna, everywhere. Now, you have learned so much. You have so much knowledge. The specialty of our ease is that we don't have only āsanas and prāṇāyāmas. And these asanas are also not just what they are; properly, we have a system. That system is maybe a little, but it is gold. So not quantity, but quality. And now you have bhajans, all yogas, everything. Today, Pārvatī and her group presented the sūtras of Patañjali. How nicely they were chanting, with no book in hand—by heart. I was ashamed myself because for a long time I did not chant again, and I forget something. They were chanting very, very nicely. What do you say? Now, how many sūtras are in Patañjali? Samādhi sūtra, others? So, how many sūtras are there? Four. Four sūtras. All four, if you don't teach, you will teach also. In your yoga class, everywhere, it will be great. Now, some were jealous. Mostly, I don't want to say which country. But you know, their heart is like this because Swāmījī will tell this country. But it's okay. What to do? I think you should get one CD. We can make a CD, and you can sell it; they will sell it. It is said, where something is free, it has no value, and where it is expensive, it will be valued. I sometimes see very nice fruits, prasāda, student and future. The packet is so beautiful, with big nuts, all different things. You buy it, and it's full of air inside, so it seems like more. But when you take it home, a mouse was running on it, maybe. So everybody wants quality. We have seen personally and listened to how our students were chanting. When you go in the car, put this CD in. When you are going, working, or walking, you can put it in. You don't have it in your brain, but you have it in your hand, yes? So you just put it in your ear. It would be very good to learn it as yoga, Patañjali. So we have to come to Patañjali directly. We will do the translation. Second, there are eighteen yogas. Patañjali has only four: Karma Yoga, Bhakti Yoga, Rāja Yoga, and Jñāna Yoga. But the Bhagavad Gītā has eighteen ślokas, eighteen chapters, meaning eighteen yogas: Aṣṭāṅga Karmayoga, Aṣṭāṅga Bhaktiyoga, etc. So there are... this we will also change and come. This is a quality for our Yoga in Daily Life, and you will feel immense spirituality within yourself, and it is knowledge. Good idea? And, of course, we have another treasure—not only treasure from the earth, like mines, but mines of wisdom—and that is our bhajans. Yes, our bhajans are so good. Many, many people are now listening to our bhajans: in Kolkata, Mumbai, Bangalore, all parts of India, and in America. In Africa, there are many Indians. Our bhajans are very nicely sung, and we have very relaxed and original bhajans. We don't have what you call Bollywood, Hollywood, Pollywood. Yeah, this Bollywood, Hollywood have destroyed the culture. But what to do? The quality is the difference. So, our Yoga in Daily Life is in your hands. You will take it further. If you have not done what I am telling, it will be lost. So it is in your hands. We will talk more about this, and we will give you... In Slovenia, there is also in the college, in university, for yoga. So they take only yoga. It's okay. Alright. But we have our faculty, and that is Yoga in Daily Life. Now, people are asking us, "Can you join with us?" It's not a joke. No joke. Many big ones are asking. You can ask our Suganpurīs in his hands. They said, "Please, Yoga in Daily Life should join with us." They said, "Yes, but in that way, not in this way." You are all who are listening now on the webcast—in Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Canada, Africa, China, Hong Kong, Bangkok, Singapore—everywhere they are listening to this Yoga in Daily Life. That's why it is a chance that we are telling this, because that is yoga. Otherwise, it is said... now someone said there is Christian yoga, Muslim yoga... there's only yoga. Yes, that's right. It is a little bit; it has to be twined, yeah. The name is a little wrong. It means Christians practice yoga. Muslims practice yoga. Christians practice yoga, that's it. So they will learn one day. I will send Vivek Purī to make a few corrections; that's very important. Umapurī is going, and she is making beautiful, beautiful lectures. She has really very great knowledge of bhajans and many things. The bhajan knowledge is very much with Umapurī—the singing and the explanation, that is very important. Otherwise... That's why Vivek Purī said, "I gave him the subject, and he did very nicely." Yeah, what the bhajan means, the meaning of the bhajans, everything—it was great. So we will talk tomorrow, day after tomorrow. When you go home, if you have time, you should always listen to our webcast, Swāmījī's webcast video, Swāmījī's webcast. What is that? Swāmījī TV. And, of course, you have family and your job, everything. But I admire you that you are also with this; you took this yoga, and that keeps you happy, healthy, and spiritual. That's all. Tomorrow's program is as it is. Are you chanting the Satguru Cālīsā in the morning? Yeah, that's very important. Satguru Cālīsā is very important.
