Advice for good health

Haṭha Yoga is the inner purification of the body through natural wisdom and technique. Astrological predictions are secondary to life's inherent function. Humans support each other, as in older communities where goods and services were shared. Modern systems of employment and commerce continue this interdependence. Nature provides all necessary remedies, such as salt for health and cow urine for healing. Āyurveda is the vast treasure of medicinal plants and elements surrounding us. Haṭha Yoga practices like neti cleanse the nasal passages with precise salt water. Kunjal kriyā is learned from the elephant's action of drawing and expelling water. Sūtra dhauti involves swallowing a cloth for internal cleansing. Śaṅkha Prakṣālana purifies the intestines with warm salt water, mimicking the conch's spiral. All these techniques originate from observing nature, as humans are part of nature. Use what God has provided, but within limits.

"The train will go according to the schedule, function, or time. Is it a good constellation or a bad constellation? The train will go."

"Better to die, but with the salt."

Hari Om, Bam, Bim, Ram. It will be eleven o’clock. Eleven is the best number. We always say eleven, twenty-one, twenty-five, fifty, fifty-one, 101—these numbers always have some meaning. Once, an astrologer came to Holī Gurujī and said that according to astrology, we must always act according to certain constellations. We all use this. Gurujī said, "I am now in Mumbai, and I am going tomorrow morning by train. What is the constellation? If it is not good, then should we stop the train? The train will go according to the schedule, function, or time. Is it a good constellation or a bad constellation? The train will go." This is sometimes really very interesting. That’s it. So it is very good. Sometimes good, sometimes not good. Some people don’t believe at all, and someone is very much observing. The next day or next month, somewhere there is a bus stand in Mumbai, and people are waiting. There is one house with a big poster: "I can immediately give you money." Gurujī was sitting there, and the bus was coming but still not there. Gurujī said, "Oh, what beautiful information, that immediately money will come." So Gurujī went there, and there were a few people sitting. Gurujī sat on a chair there too. That astrologer saw Gurujī and said, "Gurujī, please, you come." Gurujī said, "Good, how are you? Very good, this, this, this." He said, "Gurujī, what can I do for you?" Gurujī said, "I am going from this station to that station in Mumbai. It is a very long way to walk, and I have no money. So you said, 'Immediately I can give you money.' That’s very good astrology." He went into his room, the astrologer, and he brought the money, put it in Gurujī’s pocket, and said, "Please, Gurujī, this is my money. It’s only my business. Gurudev, please, otherwise all people will be somehow disappointed." Gurujī said, "No, no, you are right, because you said the money will come in your pocket." So they come every day. Gurujī said, "OK, thank you." So sometimes like this, sometimes like that. We are all humans trying to support each other. In old times, there was not so much money. In the villages, they were not selling the milk. If someone had no cow, the people who had a cow would give milk to the neighbors every day. That farmer supplied the vegetables. And there is one person who is working with the wood—what we call someone who is doing the furniture, a carpenter—so he works for others, fixing doors and such. So they were all giving to each other, and all sitting and very happy. Money may be one krona. But that krona was very valuable, so we would keep it in some pot in the earth. This is how we humans are helping each other very much. You are studying now. The teacher gets money, and the teacher also gives the tax, goes to the government. The government waits for the other school, then you are finishing your diploma, you do something. Good companies give you the money, so we are like that. And when you don’t work properly, your boss will say, "You can go home." It’s difficult. But there were some countries where there is no one unemployed, and who is not employed will go to prison. When was it? Can you tell me? Yes. So, no one was unemployed. Everyone was getting a job, and every farmer had very nice cucumbers, and people could go and take it home because it is not a farmer, it’s the government, and the government said it is yours. So that was another thing, but we are more greedy, so we are taking more and more. Now, people who have no money have sold their house, they have sold their country. Now, what is happening? How many buildings, and how many properties, lands, property? Other countries buy it. So that is something, but still, humans are doing each other good. And that we are also doing. "I am teaching yoga, and you will become a yogī." And Umā Purī said, "Today is finished." So, about yoga, Haṭha Yoga. In Haṭha Yoga, it is said one very nice netī. This is the neti pot. For those who don’t know, they are my disciples. Yoga in Daily Life, they must know all very well. So we can do one thing where it is available, so you can buy. You know, you have. It’s very good. It’s very good. You know everything. About six years ago, or maybe eight years ago, I had a little bit of something, the flu, and I was in New Zealand. I went to the doctor in Wellington. The doctor said, "Okay, it’s flu and this and that." He said, "Gentlemen," and took something from his table. This is called jala neti. And this is the gel neti for the neti pot. It is provided free by our government of New Zealand. Every doctor has this. It was plastic, I think. And he said, "Can I explain to you how you do it?" I said, because I flew, I will not do it now. I am a yogī, and I am teaching this. Then why do you take medicine? The flu will not go away. Only this will cure your problems in the nose. So, ten years ago, that time they were really in New Zealand. In Australia also, but they were selling some this, some that. Okay, thank you. So this is a lota, and if you don’t have one, you can ask from Umāpurī, or we will give to Bhakti Devī or Kṛṣṇānand; they have some there. And this is very good. It has to be very, very nice. This is Haṭha Yoga. So Haṭha Yoga is an inner purification. Take it a bit. So, it is a gel neti. Some are doing it with milk, and some are doing it with goat milk, and this has more effect. Some are doing it with horse milk. The most powerful milk is horse milk. And the sweetest milk is horse milk. And you should be capable of digesting it. It is very thin; the milk of the horse is thinner, but it has more strength, energy, everything. But every horse baby, or what we call, I don’t know, also baby, after drinking milk, not a cow, the horse, horse baby, after drinking, she will run. You can’t imagine how much. It is from nature. The mother doesn’t tell you to go and run. But nature knows, also the cow baby. After drinking, they run. Buffalo milk, drinking and lying down. A buffalo baby takes one week to get up, and the cow babies, within let’s say ten minutes, are standing up and automatically go to drinking milk. Also, horse babies, they also get up. One, two times fall down, but they are very good. Similarly, if we and our mothers give the proper milk to the humans, the humans can also be good. But don’t take the milk of a horse, because the baby will be angry. She wants her milk. But it is like that, so neti. Also, they are doing the neti with their own urine. Or the real cow urine. The real cow, what it is, is that which we have here, like, come. You also say, "Come." Okay. That one is real. And who has the big horn? And this horn is that, because it is giving coolness to the cows. Very, very hot, then this air, touching, becomes cool. So the cow urine, it is really, really a miracle. And now, many, many Āyurveda centers are using this. They are a little bit purifying, they will filter and give you, or when a little calf of the cow, the little baby, from her you can take this urine. Once, there was a person who had so many kinds of illness, or their skin was not good—the whole head. So someone told him, "When the cow is urinating, go under." It was a person from Germany. And he was really, when the cow was urinating, he was keeping. In two weeks, it was gone. Not the cow, the disease. Yes. And the cow dung, but the cow dung which you don’t feed with the grains, the grain which is nourishing, eating the corn or the grains, then has a smell from our good toilet. Also, the cows, any animal, or humans. So those cows get pure grass, and green grass is not so healthy for the using. But that kind of grass, which is dried now, you see, you were harvesting your grains, and they make the grass bundles. That is very good. May you bring the rock of the salt to cows and the deer in the forest. So the leek is good for them. When you go walking here in our woods, there are many deer, and you will see somewhere on a big rock or something, a salt rock. That’s good for us and for animals. Now, modern medicine tells us not to take any salt. Of course, you will dry it quickly. You need salt, but not too much. And if you are very ill, give one half a cup of salt water. After five hours, again, and between, good water, no eating, and you will see how a person is getting healed. The healed salt is a salt, so what we call it is said: we are the salt of the earth. So don’t go away from the salt. It doesn’t matter how ill you are, you say that my kidneys or my this, because that is again and again more, it will be here. Take salt. It will come in the body; water will go out. And take the tulsī leaves. Yes, there are many, many Āyurvedic. And what is Āyurveda? You are sitting now at the big, big treasure of Āyurveda. Yes. Each tree has different leaves, different tastes, and different effects. On which grass you are sitting, it’s unbelievable. And not only this grass. How many different plants there are. Very, very, very much. And every day, touch this tree. Enough, just touch it, that’s all. But we are sitting here. This is a retreat of the Āyurveda here. Eat salt. At home you eat less because it’s too expensive, but for us it’s not. But of course, not too much. But salt is our body. And God has produced this earth, the salt. And do you know how the salt came? Should I tell you the story? Of course, it’s Haṭha Yoga. Because in Haṭha Yoga we are using very much salt. In Śaṅkhaprakṣālana, warm lukewarm water and salty water. How much salt? Like when you have soup, more salty. And we are cleaning through this, and with others you cannot purify it. So, must I also tell you how salt is produced? Should I do it? Yes. So, one family, they went on the boat. And they went into the middle of the ocean. And for a few days, they were on the boat, and there was one old lady sitting, and people said to her, "This lady, we will say grandmother, we are going on a picnic for a few months, and there is no shop. We have no salt, forgotten." So this elderly woman, she said, "No problem," and she brought one little grinder. It was for the Croatian, they are making the coffee. She said, "But what can we do with this?" she said. Children, don’t worry. I give you this machine. Grinder. When you need the salt, I tell you one mantra: so, the grinder, grinder, grind salt. Go. This is mantra. And so they begin to have a picnic, lunch. They were already five kilometers into the ocean. And they said, "Grinder, grinder,... salt." The salt is coming, so they took it. But they can’t stop. She didn’t give the mantra on how to stop. So they said, "Please stop." It was coming like you are producing the snow. So, please, please, machine, give us, stop the salt. Then it was too much, so they took the machine and threw it in the ocean. And till now, in the ocean, this machine is making salt, and that’s why the whole ocean is salty. So one day we have to dive there to take this machine and go to the grandmother to ask her to stop it. But she was not there. There was a Divine Mother. Similarly, God has given us all in our body. When our mother gave us birth, the blood had the same taste, even the salty taste, as the mother’s. But we give up salt. Then five things are diseases in the body, newly coming. Better to die, but with the salt. Yes, so Āyurveda, and Āyurveda is saying senda salt. That’s called the rock salt, black rock salt. There are two kinds, one is yellow, which we have here now very much. People are making some ornaments. They put a little out and then put a little light. It’s a night shining through the salt, but the sandal namak is hard, and it’s a little black or red. That should be for our Āyurvedic. So what God has produced for us, we shall use it, but of course it has limitations. Not too much. So many things, now some people are saying, no salt at all. Then there are people who are ill there, so Āyurveda is just so much here. Yesterday, I came to know, I said, "Oh God, so much Āyurveda." Every leaf has a different taste. Every leaf has a different form. Yes. Why did this make this kind of leaf? So this we say: from here, learn something and tell something. I came to know yesterday there are vegetables, like some kind of pumpkins. So one is, we call it’s long, we call al. But you can sip like a kind of pumpkin. Then there is one other one you call the partizan. It’s the same color, same juice coming out. But the taste is completely different. So every vegetable that we have, it has a different taste, and why a different taste? May God make it so that we should eat this and we should eat this. But what we are learning now is really very interesting. We are making five vegetables and putting them all in one. Or one vegetable this, one that. The body says, "What are you doing? What are you doing? What are you giving in my belly? Pumpkin, then pumpkin, finished. Or the other vegetable, whatever, onion, onion. Try to take one, one. Lunchtime, take the other way. Evening, the day is different. Try to take something of our body, then it’s Āyurveda. Or you should know which we see, leaves like tulsī leaves. The neem change. There are many others; they have different tastes. And that we are taking in the tea. And when we drink the tea, there is no taste. Many give me herbal tea. I do drink it. But then I ask Manzadevi, please, can you make other tea? Habit is different. So, my dear, we are here sitting under the Āyurvedic treatment. And then, from all this together, what is that? And that is the air, and air is very much purified, very much cleaned by the different tastes of the different trees. And if you go somewhere with a more strong taste or smell, that we know you have this lavender, but the snake doesn’t come near lavender because it’s too strong. Yes. There are many snakes you have in Yugoslavia. In Greece, and in these countries, there are hills. And they’re very poisonous snakes. I was walking through the hills in Greece. We were six people, seven people. Afternoon, five o’clock, and we wanted to go to one temple, and we were going straight. And people who were there, and there were some people sitting there, they were far from us, and they said, "Oh God, these must be stupid people." We hope it will come alive. Well, we went to the temple and we came back. Side back, and this place where we were in the hotel, the neighbor said, "We were so afraid about you." There are such snakes, and now is the time they are coming out of the stones. They are so poisonous, if one bites you, then you need only one shovel, nothing else. So, we are sometimes people who are very careful, but we are not careful. That is also medicine. Such as poison is very much used for medicine. But how, that we don’t know. So, my dear, life. So, Haṭha Yoga. So, in Haṭha Yoga it is that, don’t say that I will not use this and this from nature. Eat salt. What can happen? Only one thing can happen. We die. And how do we die? Easily, quickly. The person is suffering so much because there is no salt. So when you are suffering so much pain, you can’t eat properly, you can’t eat this, you can’t eat that. So we said, use the therapy of the Haṭha Yoga. Haṭha Yoga is very, very important. Haṭha Yoga is very important. It is said that most of the diseases develop in our body. More in that water channels and the nourishment of our intestines. And our intestine is one of the best machines. How good is our intestine? Everything is digesting. Sometimes poison is deceiving. You give the water and give one sonāmukhī, diarrhea, two buckets of the water, salt, vomit, and all this poison will go out. You will not die. This is one of the treatments also. So we should know, but best is in our Haṭha Yoga: be aware, be away from the things—snakes, scorpions, tigers, and junk food. With junk food, how many cancers come? So give your children home food taste. This is very important. Jal means water, neti means the nose, and we purify the nostrils. And also, many things are collecting in our nose through our air. So if we clean with the salty water, we purify all the nostrils, parts of the body. If it is hot water and without salt, our skin will be so intense, it will be like a fire burning. So don’t put it without sugar or the water. And if you put a little bit too much salt, it’s also burning. So you should know how to do it. Neither too much, nor too little. If water is lower body temperature, then definitely you will get the flu. You will get a headache, and you will have a headache for one month because you put the wrong temperature of the water. That’s very important to this state. And after doing the Jalaneti, we see reality through the Kapālbhāti. We sell clean all out. It should not remain water in our sinuses. We have to turn left, turn right, and there are two machines. You are inhaling through the mouth and exhaling through the nose. Inhale from the mouth and exhale through the nose. If you inhale and exhale with the nose, then you will have a problem with the sinuses. So we inhale, that’s it. And the last point, very important, is that after sūtra dhotī or jal dhotī, do not sleep because some water remains in the sinuses, and you will sleep. Then you will have problems with the sinuses. So, at least two or three hours in dry air, you should be there and not do this neti, jalaneti. After jala neti, we have kunjal neti. And the name "kunjal," from what is it coming? This is an elephant’s technique. So maybe the yogis or Patañjali’s, it doesn’t matter who is who, they all took from nature. But one thing I can’t understand. Why are there so many yogīs who write and say all from animals? And why don’t they take from that animal? Who is that animal? From the humans, we don’t get. All our asanas, and this is with the animals. So it means yoga is in nature, and humans are using these techniques. So it’s good because humans are also nature. And they are also doing their other meditations and many things. So the elephant, when the elephant is going in the water, deep water, can you not imagine how he is light, so light, so light on the earth? He’s very heavy, so he’s enjoying in the water. And he goes down, but he holds his trunk out. Then he goes again completely in. He inhales in his trunk and brings out and makes a joke, the fountain. And that’s what humans have learned from the elephant’s trunk, as the source, or what I say, fountain. And that’s how fountains and springs were created. So it is called Kuñjal Kriyā. Kuñjal is from the elephant Kriyā, how he is doing. So we are also doing this Kuñjal Kriyā. We drink a lot of water and we vomit it out. We take the water out. Now, if you take only cold water, it will not function. If you put all this salt, the salt is warm but without salt. It will not function. But the lukewarm water and salt, not very much, but when the mother-in-law tells her, the wife of her son, she says to her daughter-in-law, "You have over-salted this. Did your mother teach you nothing? So much salt in the soup." Then the daughter-in-law says, "But yes, Grandma, only, you know, today it was at Kuñjāl-krihā. What is this? Because I want to make you healthy." Oh, my daughter, you are so nice. So, kuñjal kriyā is with salty water. Mostly we do it with water. Then there is a call, sūtra kriyā. And sūtra kriyā is to swallow a cotton cloth about two or three meters long. No plastic, and clean very nicely. And then put it in the warm water with salt, and then you swallow. And see if you have a goat. You will see your goat is eating everything. So let’s go in, but leave that which was out. And then, it’s like a snack. Now, what will you take out? This is important. To swallow it and entertain it is okay. Our digestion will destroy everything, but how to bring it out? Like this, oh God, no, no,... no. It sticks here in the vocal cord. So slowly pull out. It sticks. No problem. Till grandfather comes, or doctor. No. Again, the same salty water, warm salty water. And what should you do? Take one sip of water, and it will come out. So it can happen two, three times. Or sometimes one is very expert and doesn’t need it. Don’t be afraid, but this is once a week or once a month. Then we don’t have these acidities here in our chest, okay? This we will know, yeah? So this is sūtradhāri. And then if someone is putting some kind of Āyurvedic juice or Āyurvedic tea or some milk of some cow or goat, so there are different ones for different purposes. So this is the sūtradhauti, jaldhauti, and then comes the basti. And basti is more to the intestine down. A basti is related to the cleansing of the intestines. Doctors say that a human’s intestine is about 8.5 meters long. I did not see. I did not think. Why should I do it? Because my doctors are doing everything. So when the doctor tells us, then we know. That’s why they are getting our intense time. Definitely, they have been testing. Those creatures have little or short intense time. They are the meat eaters, but those who eat only green, their intestines are long, and also for humans, the intestines are also long. Those who are eating meat have more constipation and more smells. But we don’t want to fight for this. We are thinking about our yogic practices: Jala-dhauti, Sūtra-dhauti, and Basti. The Basti, we will talk afternoon, evening, or this. That they were using, sometimes they go to a very, there was no pollution in the waters, so they make the Nauli. And through Nauli, they sucked the water from some lake or clean waters, and then it goes out to the toilet. So a few times, they sucked the water inside and cleaned it. That was called the basti, but some people cannot. Some are afraid, so for that we have, then again, what is called the Śaṅkha Prakṣālana. Again, the Śaṅkha Prakṣālana. Why is it Śaṅkha? Śaṅkha is the conch and ocean. Which is rolling, we are making sound, and when you hear like this, exactly the sound under the water, ocean, like on the bottom of the ocean. Anyhow, there, this conch is rolling, and so is our intestine. So we purify like this. So, saṅga prakṣālana. Prakṣālana means purification, cleaning. So we put water inside, and then we have to turn like this till water comes out. And that is in our "Yoga and Daily Life" book about Saṅgha Prakṣālana. Separate kriyās. And it’s very, very important. But nowadays there is an immense kind of impurities, many, many different bacteria. So we should not go in the water and suck it in. So when we do Śaṅkha Prakṣālana, we are boiling water. Clean water, filtered water, and then good salt. That is good for the Śaṅkarākṣā. Then there should be a long time of precaution. Afternoon. Haṭha yoga. So, you are a Haṭha yogī also? Yes, of course, otherwise we will give you all very nice eating, tasteful, Āyurvedic, and that is called Sonāmukī. So all we will clean it. Thank you. Ariyauṁ nipnāṁ bhagvānaki deva purīṣyā mahā deva sattva-gurusvāmī mādhva-lañjī bhagvānaki sattva-sanātana-dharmaki om śānti śānti.
