Moon and Mind

The moon's influence and the science of constellations govern life. The moon balances the earth and affects minds, bodies, animals, and plants. Its phases influence activities like farming, haircuts, and yogic practice. Astrology based on the moon is considered more exact than solar-based systems. The precise time and place of birth determine one's constellation, which then suggests a harmonious name. Everything is connected to these astrological principles. Practice and eating should be mindful and deliberate. Svara Yoga explains the connection between breath, the moon's energy, and the mind. Harmony in life comes from aligning with these natural rhythms.

Part 1: The Influence of the Moon and the Science of Constellations Today is a beautiful day. First, we are here. Second, we have very good air here with a lot of oxygen. Next, there is less traffic and the sun is shining. Once a week or month, there is one special day called the full moon day. In certain parts of the world, it is a little different. Here in Europe, in this part of the earth, the moon is oriented from this way to that way, from up to down. We are facing south. When you go to Australia, then the moon is to the north. Did you notice that? Was someone in Australia? So, you saw it. Do not say that Swāmījī sometimes makes us stupid, that he is changing the moon's direction. It is simply changing in that direction there. Anyhow, today is full moon. For a certain part of the world, it is already evening. They have a different constellation, and it is different on our side now. We just say that today is full moon, that is all. But every moment can be turned when the children are too loud. So please, all children should go into the other room to play. Thank you very much. Parents, thank you. The chocolate will come in the evening. So, until evening, do not make any noise. Tārā, māme, go. When the moon is there, the full moon, we see fewer stars. We shall put up a very nice screen so the parents and children can see and they can talk. Thank you. We have these two biggest [luminaries], which are changing in the night and day. But in reality, there is no sun setting and sun rising. We see sunset and sunrise, but for 24 hours, the sun does not set. Only our earth is moving. The moon has more power on the earth. The moon is changing, and it is said that the moon is balancing the earth. This moon, which is changing, is what we call the constellation. Now, there are two kinds—there are many other countries or traditions that are accepting the moon, the sun, and the constellations. But generally, we say these Western people take astrology only through the sun, and in Eastern or Indian and other countries, through the moon. The Chinese have different parts, and certain parts also have a little bit of difference. Of course, they are counting this, and according to them, it is correct. Indians also have that difference, and so do the Westerners. But in the West, they do not take the pencil very exactly. It cannot be, but definitely it has good. There is a thing. The moon is very exact. The moon can make the 13th month, and the sun makes only 12 months. It changes a little bit in the month of February. Every year is changing. But in moon accounting, it is said the moon is rising; it will count in the rising moon. This means that one day is dark night, and then the sun is coming, the moon... the moon. Here in Europe, I do not know about Austria, but if a child is born one or two months late, they will not take them for school. Because it should be, I think, the six-year-old child is pulled to school. But when the child is two years or two days old, they will not take him for school, so the child is happy—one year more. In the moon accounting, similarly, when the moon is rising, even one day earlier, then it is already counted as the third month. Like also when we fly from America and we come to Australia, we are gaining or losing one day. This can become a little confusing. We call it the line of the equator. There is one, not a country, but like a fizzy island. There is an island there, so the line comes in the middle of the island. One street has one day already finished, and the other is beginning. So also, when you type the letter, the letter comes there, but it is coming in the morning. You can see now, when you are flying, they are changing the line like this. Mostly, you can see in Fiji and these other high islands. Similarly, when the moon is rising, but on other days, what we are counting is behind by one day. So, in one year, there are three full moons: sixteen and thirteen. So, we have thirteen months. How should we count in India? We count once in three years: there are two months together. So this is one and two months, that counted exactly two months more. Mostly we count this all according to the moon constellation. The moon has more effect on our planet. You know, when the full sun rises, of course, the sun is rising every day. Sometimes it is also a black sun, but only for a few minutes. Sometimes there is an eclipse of the sun, but only for a few minutes, for a few moments. But the moon does, and also the moon has a black, the full moon also has a black, so the moon has more effect on our earth. The moon affects our mind and body very much, not only humans, but also animals and plants. There is one example. I knew one person. I was living in, I am living in Austria, and I lived about three years in one city called Graz. There were some of my disciples, and a very famous person who was building many nice, good buildings. But the problem was that engineer on the full moon. He was walking on the roof, and on the full moon day, his wife ran away from the house. They had a few houses, and she said to her husband, "I will not be visible today." Sometimes people are walking with a gun. Or one cannot sleep. You know, some people are like this. On the moon day, the full moon day, either they cannot sleep, or there are many, many effects on the body. We know that the moon has a really very strong influence on our self. Some people have depression. Some cannot sleep. Mostly the cat animals are very restless. The wolves, all night on the moon, are making noise. Yes, so this is the effect. The moon now brings us to counting in the yogic way. There is a way when you should change your prāṇāyāma practice, either on the full moon or the new moon. Many farmers, again I am in Austria, there are certain people who only put the seeds on the particular time of the new moon. If you do it after the full moon, your harvest will not be good. They made another experiment: at Christmas time, they are making Christmas trees. They are planting the trees only for the Christmas tree. If you chip this Christmas tree on the new moon time, the needles of these trees will not fall down. But if it was after the full moon, in the 14 days, you will see that many needles will fall down after one week or ten days, five days or something in your house. One person was a farmer, and he was keeping his Christmas tree. All his needles, the same green color, and all on the tree, brown. Similarly, if you cut your hair always on the new moon, your hair will not fall away. But if you are giving the black side, then we are losing. Because women are not cutting too much, and men are not cutting too much, so that men always have very beautiful hair. You do not need too much soap. Little soap, three, four years, because you take a little and it is okay, finished. Nice. So this is the moon effect. There is also a problem with women’s menstruation. There is also about the moon, so take care. Of course they cannot stop, but there can be something. Similarly, our cows give good milk when they give birth to the calf on the new moon. Who is the full moon? Of course, you are in the full moon, you know. From new moon to full moon, so it is good. You are born, one day before the moon is also good, but the full moon is very good. From the new moon until the full moon. It does not mean the others are bad. It is also okay. Then, that constellation is about nine, nine, what do you call them, the planets. But the ninth planet we do not count, because Earth is not a planet. Many, we do not count this. But there is a moon and other planets that are affecting. So when your child was given birth, exactly, exactly the constellation, then it does not matter if it is the full moon or the dark moon. If you know exactly, and then you count the constellation according to the moon or the sun, I do not know, but the moon, then it will come, the few alphabets. And then you will get to certain signs from the Abhidhyā. Abhidhyā teaches to all. Singing. Then, exactly, they will not say the sun, no, no... the sun has nothing. The moon, what time it was, and then which planet was in effect at that time, then it will come to some alphabet. We have 52 vocals in our human body, which is turning in the human’s brain or yogic practice, then through the kuṇḍalinī cakras. This astrologer, he or she, will see exactly the name of the child, the geometry of the girl or the boy. According to this, we should give the name to that child. If you have this name, for example, you have Anicka or Amrit. It does not matter what the first letter of your name is; that will keep your child very balanced and healthy. And the alphabet is "B," and you say "Hanka." Then "Hanka" brings "Pohanka," instead of "Maka." "Maka" means corn, so the name is very, very important. My constellation exactly was with M. When my Gurujī gave me the, not about the name, Sanyāsī, also, M. Maheśvara Nanda. That is it. So you all find out. What time you were born, and where you are born, it means not in the house or the hospital, but within that area of 100 meters or 50 meters, or better, the twelve of the fourteen days. Because there is a difference, the sun, sorry, not the moon, the sun, it is also moving our planet. So you are entering another border. If you go to the other border, it is the German border. We do not want German. We want Czech. But it is a problem, but one leg left and right. Then there is another name. Who is making constellations according to this? Of course, it will be counted. Again, one hour is counted in how many seconds? Exactly in the second, then you are the correct person. That is it. There are often two children born at the same time. But the astrologer said no. There is a half-second difference. If it is twins, then of course there is a different length. This is the science of the planets, the moon, the sun, and yoga. If you are practicing yoga, even only physical āsanas and prāṇāyāms, you should know when you begin and where you are going. When you begin, then it does not matter; you can do it the whole day. Part 2: The Importance of Svara Yoga and Mindful Practice When we come to the dining table and the food is served, we say to everyone at home, "Let’s have a good appetite." First, you bring your mouth to the food. That is what is counted. Then you eat slowly, slowly—for one hour, half an hour, or ten minutes. It is said that French people sometimes eat for three hours on a Sunday. I don't know what I heard, but I eat slowly. The taste is in the mouth, and when you swallow it down, it is no more. So what you enjoy is your taste. Similarly, you should chew nicely. Some people say you should chew forty times. Forty chews is not so long. Oh, you’re taking years... and last year was very good. It went very quickly. Why? Because as much as we chew with our gums, that kind of juice comes out. That is for health. If you go quickly to the stomach, only about 25% is utilised; the rest is gone. So taste exists only until the vocal cords; after that, it is finished. So, enjoy. There is an enjoyment in your food, and that is it. Everything is connected to astrological constellations. When you begin eating, that moment is important. Then, how long you eat and chew is another significant factor. It is said that those who chew slowly and well will have good health. It will definitely give you the assurance that there will be no cancer if you chew each bite forty times. Similarly, in eating, what we consume should be healthy for our body. In the same way, your practice of yoga postures must not involve twisting your body completely. Young children are doing okay. I saw on Facebook a few days ago Chinese children rolling like that. That is acrobatic, but yoga practice consists of only five postures. They should be done comfortably, relaxed, and slowly. That is the best approach in our Yoga in Daily Life. However, about 40% of our yoga teachers mix different styles and perform them quickly, so people come and then they don’t return, because there is no proper school. There is a vast subject of yoga called Svara Yoga. There are many types of yoga: Haṭha Yoga, Karma Yoga, Bhakti Yoga, Rāja Yoga, Sahaja Yoga, Kuṇḍalinī Yoga, etc. Similarly, there is Svara Yoga. Svar means our breath. As you know, there are said to be 72,000 nāḍīs (energy channels) in the body. Out of these, four are very powerful: Vajrā Nāḍī, Iḍā, Piṅgalā, and Suṣumṇā. These Iḍā, Piṅgalā, and Suṣumnā affect our brain and all other nerves profoundly. In yoga, we also call them Candra-nāḍī and Sūrya-nāḍī. Candra is the moon, and Sūrya is the sun. For the yogī and for the mind, there are many elements within our body. It is not merely that we do āsanas and prāṇāyāma for sādhanā and then say goodbye. Okay, these are exercises you can do. But if you are in yogic consciousness, you engage in a great deal of practice, and thus you become a yogī. However, we can go the wrong way. Then what? If we are on the wrong path, everything goes the wrong way. Once, on the highway, I was driving from Vienna to Villach. My feet were aching from too much running. I was sitting, and one Māṭājī was driving—this was a long time ago, in 1974. There was a radio announcement warning that someone was driving the wrong way, like a ghost. It said, "Be careful." The man driving the wrong way was shouting at his wife, "Stupid! Why is everyone coming the opposite way?" He didn't want to be a ghost, but now everything was coming opposite him. Similarly, one can go the wrong way in yoga. Then, a good yogic school might be abandoned, and one might go somewhere else to do this or that, or someone might claim to give you kuṇḍalinī. It is not like that. Therefore, when you are eating, you should be aware that you are eating. You would not go to the toilet to eat there and sit down; even animals do not do that. They stand to defecate. So we must do everything systematically. Thus, it is called the Sūrya Nāḍī and Chandra Nāḍī. Candra means the moon. What does the moon mean for us? Our mind. Our mind controls us, but the master of our mind is the moon. The principle of the moon is water, and water’s principle is movement. That movement depends on how you control it or not. So, the moon is the master of the mind. The mind is the moon, and the moon is the principle of water. Water provides balance in our whole body—all the liquid we have, about 40% or maybe 60-65% of our body. Water purifies the body. If you drink too much alcohol, that water is not good, but milk is good, juice is good. Pure water is only water; juice and milk are nourishment. We do not count milk merely as drinking. From childhood, we first lived on milk. The left nostril is the moon. The moon is the mind. The mind’s principle is the moon, and the moon is water. Therefore, you will see that the ocean also breathes. We observe how the waves go in and out. If you put your hand on your stomach, you feel it moving in and out. That is the moon principle, enabling us to inhale and exhale. That is very important. After certain hours, the entire ocean comes further out onto the beach and then recedes again. That is the breath of the ocean, akin to our inhalation and exhalation. So, this is the moon connected to our inner moon, and the Sūrya Nāḍī provides a balance for the moon. These are the connections within the human body in Svara Yoga. In Svara Yoga, the yogīs speak in this manner. Then you will understand Kuṇḍalinī. There is nothing going up and down; rather, it is an expansion. So, Iḍā and Piṅgalā: Piṅgalā is the sun, Iḍā is the moon. Then there is the power control in between, which is the whole universe residing in the Sahasrāra Cakra or Suṣumnā Nāḍī. If we control these three nāḍīs and concentrate our attention on them, there will be harmony in your family. But if you do not know the constellation of your child, your wife, or your husband, it can be destructive. One person can destroy the whole family. Nowadays, we are always looking for beauty. You think, "Oh, this is a beautiful man," and you want to marry him. Okay, it happens. But be sure that the husband you thought was very beautiful may become a distraction between you. However, when you know that a girl has a particular constellation, and the husband also has a beautiful constellation—one that involves not only the heart beating but also the nābhi (navel)—suddenly you will have such harmony between husband and wife. There you will have such a feeling; that is love, that is beauty. Now, consider how many people in Europe marry and then divorce. How are the children suffering? Therefore, find out your exact constellation. Many people can tell you precisely. In astrology, they might say the girl is very beautiful, the man is also beautiful, and they have a good constellation. Both sides, parents and children, may say yes. But the astrologer might say, "Perfect, but there is one problem," and that is what is called... I have forgotten the name. Kāla, Kāla, what? Can somebody tell me properly? Not this Kāla, no. Kāla Sarpa, the black snake. That is between both of you. The girl will not agree, the husband will also not agree, and the parents will not either. But there is a pūjā; there are certain ceremonies. It means there is some kind of mantra or something that I do not know. Or, after certain constellations pass—in a few hours, or in a few years—perhaps this Kālasarpa will go. Or, for example, one can visit the Dvādaśa Jyotirliṅga. Then the girls and boys go on Parikramā. We have this now in Jadan, in Omāśram. Then you will see that your whole life, your wife and your husband will be so happy together, and your children will be so good and happy. Animals know, birds know; only humans do not know. If you proceed on this path, I could bring you a good astrologer, but I do not want to. You know why? You are already married. Now, if someone comes and says, "This is not good between you," oh God, your husband will be angry, or your wife will be angry. So let it be. But if you are doing it now, take care. Astrologers can only tell based on your time and place of birth. "Place" means not your home or the hospital, but the country. Śrī Śrī... It doesn’t matter. Whether you take a European name, a Middle Eastern name, a Chinese name, or an Indian name, it does not matter. The first letter of your name is significant, and then comes the number. Sometimes you and your husband cannot have harmony because the number of your house is not good. In China, they avoid the number 4 anywhere, and also 14. Where there is a four, they do not have it. Once I was in a large hotel in Sydney, Australia, owned by Chinese. I asked, "Where is number four?" There was no four, because they said the number four means death. So there are different beliefs, but there is some truth to it. So, go by the constellation, listening to the moon and not the sun. This is what I am explaining about Svara Yoga, and this Svara Yoga is related to astrology. According to that, you should practice your sādhanā and yoga. Then your health will be good. Yes, there are many, many things. Anyhow, I wish you a very good day and a good appetite. Right? You have today, or tomorrow, the full moon. Tomorrow. Oh, we can eat today. Tomorrow we will be fasting. Why do we fast? Because the full moon has very strong energy. If we do not eat, our energy becomes more balanced. However, a diabetic, someone who is always very hungry or very weak, or a small child—a newborn lives on mother's milk every one and a half hours or every hour, you know, crying, crying—that is okay. But we, at this age, can do it and should do it. Then you practice yoga, and you will see how it is. I told you that about 40% of our Yoga in Daily Life practitioners do not practice properly because they think, "I am better." So instead of two spoons of sugar in a bottle of milk or coffee, they put two big spoons of salt. Alakh Purījī Mahādeva Kī Jai, Devadhī Deva Deveśvara Mahādeva Kī Jai, Haradī Bhagavān Śrī Dīp Nārāyaṇa Mahāprabhujī Kī Jai, Hindu Dharma Samrāṭ Satguru Svāmī Madhavānandajī Bhagavān Kī Jai, Satya Sanātana Dharma Kī Jai. Oṁ Śāntiḥ Śāntiḥ...
