Preserving health

Health arises from proper nourishment, purification, and governing the inner self.

The root of disease, including cancer, is diet. Modern medicine uses chemicals the natural body rejects. Veganism is praised for avoiding animal suffering, though even vegetables and honey are now compromised. True healing comes from seasonal, local foods eaten in variety, not global imports. The body is a kingdom hosting countless lives, not a single soul. Purify through yogic practices like Śaṅkaprakṣālana. Forgive others and release anger, as negative thoughts create illness. Realize your spiritual nature now; do not wait.

"Āyurveda said that my body is natural and Āyurveda is also natural. So that is how we can expect, accept, and hope that something will be healed in the body."

"Therefore, many people eat ahiṃsā. That is pure ahiṃsā. Ahiṃsā is many, many things. So, this part they are doing as vegans is very good."

Good morning. I was thinking this morning that people always ask me questions on paper. So today, you can stand up and ask your question—for our life, for our ātmā, for all our five bodies, and so on. These are always good questions. There is a question: is there any new therapy against cancer? If we find anywhere that someone is doing a treatment, I am happy. There is something called cannabis. I do not know if it is a drug, and I have no idea about this, so I cannot answer. We are all struggling with all different kinds of medicine: allopathic, homeopathic, āyurvedic, etc. In the beginning, if something like this arises, we could have and should have taken care of our nourishment beforehand. When you think there is some kind of feeling or imbalance, then try to treat it through diet. Now, there is something very famous in the whole world: veganism. This is because many things in milk production involve suffering for the animals. We only use their bodies, and through different kinds of feed, they are made fat. With this, they are taking meat, and this means it goes into our body. If we take one tablet of medicine, it reacts in our body. If you drink a sip of alcohol, it reacts in our body. Similarly, any kind of nourishment you are taking, we should know what it is—what we call junk food. Our tongue very much looks forward to eating such things. Āyurveda is also trying very much, but I think it also does not heal cancer. Yes, it can make you slow. Why slow? Because they are not giving you proper food, so you become thinner and thinner. The cancer also becomes thinner and thinner. If you eat more, again there is going to be more. Out of a thousand persons, maybe one gets a little bit of release. There was in a village a blind person. One day, people were throwing stones, and a stone hit that person. Everybody was shouting. This person was only playing that he was blind, but he was not blind. Similarly, through something—our good luck—we are getting treatment. It is good, but what about a thousand people? We need a solution for all. This is a very big problem, and the problem is only one: diet. Nowadays, there are many people who are vegan, and there are two reasons. First is the torturing of the animals. You have milk from your mother for some months or one year, and then you are not for milk anymore. Or, if you have your own good animal—cows, buffaloes—that eat pure food with no chemicals, then the milk is good. But we know that everything is manipulated in the milk and in what we call the dairy industry. Vegetables are also not trustworthy. Also, honey: we take the honey that the bees, so hard-working, bring, and we feed them with sugar. Therefore, many people eat ahiṃsā. That is pure ahiṃsā. Ahiṃsā is many, many things. So, this part they are doing as vegans is very good. There are two things: one is health, and second is that we do not take away from the creatures, the animals, like this. Also, they are vegetarian; they do not eat, they do not kill animals. Now it is coming to this in the whole world. There was a time under the hot sun, and for many days or months there was no rain. But suddenly, one or two little clouds came, and we hoped that now rain would come. The cloud was very little, but slowly, slowly, more and more clouds came, and the whole country was covered with nice rain. Similarly, one day, humanity will be awake, and we will bring this kind of ahiṃsā. You know, see what vegans are doing. We should get what they are giving for food. Now, disease is in the body, or maybe we can only heal something with nourishment. It is said that all treatment we get from medicines is chemical, and our body is natural. So when we put chemicals in our body, our body does not accept them. It will only make more problems. We will deal with it and do something to heal or calm the body from this chemical, but many things will be damaged. We know that doctors and scientists are doing very hard work. They did great work, and now there are many, many hospitals. But still, as many medicines as we are developing, more diseases are coming out. Some people say that the doctors and all these companies are only doing it for the money. That is not true. Maybe a few people are greedy about money, but many, many doctors are really trying very hard. Āyurveda said that my body is natural and Āyurveda is also natural. So that is how we can expect, accept, and hope that something will be healed in the body. It is like a plant that is drying or not properly growing because there is a lack of good water and a lack of good fertilizer. So we should get good nourishment. Today I had my little breakfast, and I was thinking—also in the night I was thinking. I wake five times, six times in the night, but you must not follow this because then you cannot sleep. When I wake up, it is only for one minute or one and a half minutes. So I am always thinking: in this one and a half minute, in which way can I utilize it best? Good things for my thought, for meditation or yoga, for health, and so on. In 1970, I came to Europe, and there was some kind of diet called macrobiotics. There was a Japanese man in America who had a very big field of soybeans. It was like what we now call vegan. He said to eat food that was protected, from about 40 kilometers distance. Though you came from Hamburg, when you enter this village, all the environment and air comes into your body. It is okay; you brought some bread from Hamburg. But now you are here, and you breathe this air and everything from about 40 kilometers distance—water, food, air, everything. And now we are sitting here and bringing food from Mexico, or from England, or from India, etc. The other point I was thinking very deeply about is that we should follow the season’s time. When the summer is very hot and you are wearing one jacket, one dress, and one coat, it is not good. When it is very cold here, sometimes 20 degrees below, and you go out with just a little dress, it is opposite. So these two things: one is the environment, second is where the food was grown, and third is the season. Now, it is Hungary, and Hungary has the season when paprika is growing. There are watermelons. Yes, they are very good. We can eat them, but in mid-winter you will eat watermelon from Australia. There is a heart, and here is a cold climate. That food which is grown in other countries, in other climates, is not good for us in this climate. Take one tree here, let us say a cherry tree. The cherry gives us fruits in April and May, for only half, two weeks, or let us say maximum one month. Enjoy cherries. Finished. Then wait eleven months again to eat that cherry. But no—we are putting them in a cool room or getting them from other countries. So this reacts in our body in the opposite way. That is a big problem now, humanity’s problem. And humans also create problems for other creatures, and that is why many diseases are coming. We can bring something which can remain or keep for a long time, like a pumpkin that you can eat until the winter. Or there are certain vegetables we prepare, like what we call herbs; we take these herbs, dry them, and make a tea or something like this. So concentrate on our seasonal nourishment. We should take this. This is the cause of our disease. We can protect ourselves. It is also said that you should not eat the same thing every day. So change different grains in the body—many, many other seeds like mung, all these other corns, etc. If we continuously eat the same thing, then again it will react in the body differently. And what are you people doing? Just bread and butter, bread and butter, a little bit. Many of us do not know how to cook. This is the country of Yugoslavia, and they are very famous for what they call ajvar. How long will you keep this? That is it. So there are things to preserve; you have done it in a good way so you can keep it and enjoy it. Like Indians, we Indians preserve pickles—mango pickle or different kinds of pickles. So, follow our national, what you call them, foods. How to prepare the food is a different matter. So, this is for our health. The second is our exercise. We should do the āsanas. It has nothing to do with whether you are thinking of religion, countries, or culture. There are some countries and some people who say, "No, this is an Indian technique, and we do not want to practice yoga." Then Hari Om died. So this is a very narrow thought. Many things which we are doing will come close to our body. From today onward, try to purify your body: Śaṅkaprakṣālana, Kapālabhāti, Bastrika, Anuloma Viloma, Agni Sāra Kriyā. This is purification through the whole body. Then there was somebody asking the question: how can we forgive and not look weak at the same time? Go ahead, let it be. When you die, this will automatically go on. Yes. So, this is nature in your thoughts, and these are others. We cannot lose sometimes what we would like to do. If you are not guilty, but still people will say you are guilty; and if you are guilty, they will say you are not guilty. So anger, hate, jealousy—this is inside, that kind of tamas guṇa. And tamas guṇa is very disturbing in our body. Such kinds of actions from our body and our thoughts create many diseases. Our body is not only very pure; we cannot survive without anything. How many bacteria do we have in our body? If they are not there, we will die. And how many jīvās? How many lives are in our body? You are not only one. My soul, my ātmā, my jīva, my life—so where will my jīva, my soul go? And what about others? We are like… our soul is like a mother bee, and all the others. Is the bee’s honey? Bees now, in this minute, I am sitting here to speak, and others all are here. Similarly, like the honeybees, they all have their discipline. So in our body, we have so many, so many jīvas. It is not only one soul. On a little drop of blood, there are so many jīvas from you. So you are not alone. Yes, if your husband does not like you, let it be. Or your wife is not like you, then leave it. You have enough, enough inside your soul, your jīvā. Yes. So it is said: you are the king of this country. You are the governing one, and all are your people. And in this, though you are a king, still this king cannot find out who is thinking now, negatively. So it is both sides: negative and positive, both are inside. In our kingdom, it is a big kingdom—the population, like… the whole world on this globe. China, India, or many, many countries have many children, and we are trying to control all and love all and make all happy. Now in Europe or in some countries, the population is getting smaller and smaller. You see, in Austria, Austrians are getting fewer and fewer. Germans are also getting fewer and fewer. But thanks to the government of Austria or Germany, they are bringing people from the Middle East and, for many years, our friends, our fellow humans. And Hungary. The Hungarians are also getting fewer and fewer. So you will see very soon, the Hungarians are more in England and in France and there. But Hungary cannot be empty. There are many other people coming here, so we are replacing each other. So, different kinds of genes in the body. Otherwise, if your kingdom is okay and the king is good, and you will all stay in your countries, it will be good. So, do not think, "My soul." No. We think that it is in the heart. But the surgeon, the doctor, will say there is no soul there. It is in the brain. Other doctors will say, "No, he is not there." Now they can open the brain and look inside, cut something, and put it back again. Science… so where is the soul? Our soul… we are afraid of pain, but it is not only that one soul. Our heart is a weak organ, but it is constantly doing, moving. So we are… our whole country is behind us. In the bhajan which we have, this from Mahāprabhujī’s disciple Swami Sivananda, that is called, you know, the singing. Just in these little bhajans, these two lines put it all, our whole world in one. And in the whole universe: Śrī Guru Ātmā. Our Gurudev is our ātmā. Śrī Guru Ātmā is Paramātmā. Paramātmā, the Highest God, also your soul is that Paramātmā. The Guru Ātmā is also within yourself. Śrī Guru Ātmā, Paramātmā, ho mahātmā—and that is not only ātmā, but the greatest mahātmā. Śrī Guru ātmā paramātmā ho mahātmā sakal jag ke antarjāmī—and He is the Lord of our whole world, and that is sitting within us. Jīva, where is your jīva? Yesterday, I spoke this: when the flame is gone. Please, all, so many of you are sitting here. The door is closed, the window is closed, and so many of you are sitting here. And I blow off the flame. Can you catch it? So many are standing here. Where is that? And is there any more or not? This is only when you get your inner Ātmā to know yourself. Then there is no flame, no light, no darkness, etc. So we do not know, or we will again come. There are some people who are writing in the book and say, "Yes, I saw, and I saw, and my persons who died and now are what we call the ancestors." And they will come back, no? Was it Dracula’s or not anymore, Dracula’s? And Dracula’s is not a Dracula’s because there are some people whose skin is so sensitive they cannot come in the light, and that is why they were coming out in the evening. Some part of this, in England, Britain, there are some countries where people would not go into the sun. They said, "You have to close your window; do not let your sunlight inside, otherwise you have to pay the tax. When you go walking outside, you have to have your umbrella. Otherwise, if you are in the sun, you have to pay the tax." In your own garden, if you sit with them in your garden in the sunlight, they will immediately come and you pay the fine. About 20 or 30 years now, or maybe only 20 years, this law they took off. Who knows this? Do you think that I am making a joke? Yes? Who knows this? Hand up. One, two, three, four, five, six. Because many people could not go there, because there are Draculas still. And they go in the evening. There is an underground, a beautiful underground. Tourists are coming there. And evening after lunch, dinner after dinner, then they bring the tourists—one bus full or two buses—and everybody is getting with the light and going through in the underground. It was there, Edinburgh, a beautiful city. Edinburgh is a beautiful city. And so big, wooden, stone slabs, big, big, and everything so big, how strong. If there is an earthquake, it will not break down. And winter is so cold, and the summer is very good because stones are still cool. Very good city, very good people, very, very good people there. But it is like this: how we are, where we are, and how we are living, so we did not realize yet. That is why we said, "It is my country, it is my…" We are only that, like baby birds in the nest. When they are grown to fly away, they go to some other place, another country, or another tree. So whatever you have to realize, realize here. Think that after this life, I will meditate and I will do all that. So whatever you want to do, do it now. Therefore, it is said, "Chara-achar" means all living creatures here on the earth. So do not put these papers here, because only you can say yes or no, that is it. There were many people listening on the radios when there was fighting in Yugoslavia. So others said, "We will forgive you, we will forget you, but we will not forget you." We will not forget, till the last breath. Even the same person will come and hug you and say, "I am sorry," and this and that. But the memory will remain there. Every animal has memories. So this is what about practicing our yoga, and this one cancer. What we have, cancer—there are many, a lot of cancers in the body. There are many different kinds of cells there. But purify it: prāṇāyāma, and eat that, your national food, what you are eating here. That is all. So, do you have any questions? Five minutes left. Yes. Yes. Oh yeah, the moon is beautiful. We said in India, when they married their daughter to that other boy, and other boys… they are, who is married to this, and you know, they did not see each other in their life. They will only see the face after marriage. So, boys, have confidence that no matter how you see, I accept you as my wife. And the wife also said, they said, that does not matter how he is, that is my husband; it will be my husband. And so they are making a song, a song when they are coming for a marriage. Then they said, "Our daughter, our girl, our daughter, if we open her cloth, she is like a full moon." Okay? That is it. So, every woman is like a beautiful moon shining. And if there are some spots, then say, "Yes, a beautiful sārī," because it is like clouds. Yes, and because our daughter is so beautiful, so is that. So the moon is beautiful, a beautiful sun sign, and you know, when they open to see the beautiful moon, the lady, then the sun sign comes, the husband. Do not worry. So I said, ever the moon will be like that, and the husband will be also like that. So you can go for a walk in the very good air and speak, walking round and round, and speak with your friends. Talk about your spirituality and this and that. No criticism. Because when we make criticism, we are making a spot in the body, some kind of illness. Yes, so it comes, it attacks you, it attacks you. So, you know that, what? I can tell you, there is one beautiful bhajan, and I want to show you that, yes, this moon is the wife, the girl. She is spotless, beautiful, and her husband is also brilliant. Even our moon cannot look at him, so she will go like this. And so, there is a great people, and this they said. You know that, you know this, and that is one beautiful bhajan, yes, bhajan, you know, from Kabīrdās, Kabīr Dās Jī, Pachanyā. Chhaddariya Jini Jini Jini Jini. So this moon, beautiful moon, that is a beautiful… all females are beautiful, there is no spot on it. And if a spot comes, then the man is a naughty, a naughty man. What does she do? Coming, beautiful dream of what we call the tears, to clean up again. Yes, that is why God gave the tears. And why is she crying? Because she is cleaning the soul of her husband; it will become pure; there will be no spot on it again. Wait. Just wait. The sun will rise again. So girls, wait. And boys, do not hurry, because she comes only once. Yes, only once, full moon. So you have to wait till that. And if you are not waiting for the full moon, then you bring half-moon and half-moon and top-moon. That is it. Yes. Time, time, time.
