Control your energy and mind

The human journey is governed by the five sheaths and the balancing principles of sun and moon. A person should be like a tree, giving shade and fruit to all. The special feature is the living Master, present for everyone. Life involves 8.4 million creatures, with humans possessing higher intelligence for discerning good. The restless mind is governed by the moon's principle, connected to water and movement, while the stable sun resides within the heart. One must balance these energies, particularly through left nostril breathing. The soul descends through stages to eventually inhabit a human form. The purpose is to progress through the five sheaths: the physical body, the energy body, the mental sheath, the sheath of knowledge, and finally bliss. All problems originate in the uncontrolled mind. The primary duty is to care for the physical vessel so the soul may progress. Control the mind and all problems are resolved.

"O human, control the mind."

"Your mind will always go to something. Where is your mind?"

Filming location: Samobor, Croatia

Praṇām Gurudev. Hari Om, dear friends. I am very glad that we are continuing our program here in Samobor and that we began it by planting eleven trees. Whenever we plant trees, I always remember Viśva Gurujī’s words: a yogī, a person, should be like a tree, like a river, and like rain. The tree gives shade and fruit to everybody. Rain falls equally for everybody. The river flows for everybody, and the sun shines for everybody. In our lives, we have the opportunity to see Viśva Gurujī, who is always there for everybody. When someone asks what is specific about Yoga in Daily Life that distinguishes it from other yoga techniques in the world, we could say our speciality is the unbroken lineage, the paramparā, from Alak Purījī to this day. But one of the most important things is Viśva Gurujī himself. Like the trees and the sun, Gurujī is here for everybody—not only for those He may like or dislike. We can always come near to Him. Viśva Gurujī doesn’t have His own personal time; we should be the ones to take care of Him. That is the special feature of Yoga in Daily Life: we have a living Master who is here with us and who is so close to us. As the Indian ambassador said in a public lecture in Zagreb—and I liked hearing this from a politician—"This is the time we have come to be with Swamijī." So we will not take up much more time; just enjoy darśan and try to change your inner climate. Thank you, Viśva Gurujī, for prolonging these few days with us in Croatia. Hopefully, next time it will not be only three days, but seven or maybe even ten. We have many centers in Croatia, and it would take at least ten days to visit them all. Good evening, dear sisters and brothers, and citizens of this city. It was a very beautiful atmosphere at sunset. We were giving life to the trees; we planted eleven trees. In yoga, there are ten karmas. Karma, or what we call karma, is dharma—good karmas and bad karmas. Ten are for doing good things, and five are the bad karmas. We should utilize only Dharma. And what is Dharma? Dharma means doing good things. It is said we should not cause pain to anyone, any creature. Many times I have spoken that there are 8.4 million different creatures. Out of them, one is the human. These 8.4 million creatures are all included; some are called Jalchar, living in the water; some are on the earth, and some are in the sky. They are mostly living in space; they die there and are born there. There are many, many creatures like this. From them, we are on the earth, and we are the human. All creatures which are living are fighting each other, killing each other, eating each other. But only one, the human, has more intelligence and the feeling for good things. Therefore, humans are higher creatures. Human knowledge is different. Animals do not have that much knowledge; they have three principles: eating, dreaming, and giving birth to children. When the soul is descending to the earth, how do we come? It is from the astral world, which we cannot see. There may be many beings here in this hall, moving, even humans, but we cannot see them. Maybe many are here listening to the lecture because I am touching their lives. When we are in the astral world, do not think we are very comfortable. It can involve more suffering and torture. Therefore, again, the Merciful One brings us to the earth so we can do something to go in a good way. The soul comes from the astral world, which is very far, entering from one part of space to another. When we come to our... this sun arose—our territory is within this sun. We are created or came through this sun. We are melted in it, and we are again coming with it. So we are living from the sun. The moon is closer to our earth, but the moon is what balances our whole earth. Therefore, constantly, as the earth is moving, accordingly the sun also looks like getting a half sun, full sun, dark sun. That means because the earth is moving and the moon is balancing it. In our principle, we also have the moon and sun according to yogic science. This moon is the principle of the world mind. So our mind is constantly moving. We cannot stop our mind, and if we could stop it, we would be great yogīs, great saints. But we cannot stop our brain; therefore, we cannot achieve perfection. In the daytime, the mind is very, very active. In sleep, it cannot rest; immediately it will go. Our mind will go, and where? Into dreams. In sleep, you want to relax, but our mind doesn’t relax, and we get many, many dreams. Sometimes we are lost in the dream, but we forget it. So the mind is very restless. The deity of our principle of the mind is the moon. We call the moon the god of mind. But the moon is known as constantly moving, like the mind. The principle of the moon is water, and water is also moving all the time. With the moon, the ocean moves. When the full moon is high, there are high waves on the ocean. When the moon is full, there are big waves; when the moon is dark or empty, the waves are smaller. But our mind is only on the surface. Within, in our heart, there is the sun. The mind is chanchal, meaning restless. The ocean is also very moving, with waves. But when we dive deep under the sea, then there is no movement in the water. There you see sand or stones. With the moon, such waves go slowly on the bottom of the ocean. Coming light through in the nighttime, because they are in the sun... So when we see the bottom of the ocean—I was not there, but I saw in some pictures or some movements—even about five meters down, there is sand moving, like sand on the surface of the earth in the desert where, with fine air, the sand moves. Above and below, there are movements. That is our movement, our restlessness or peacelessness. So, the left nostril is the moon principle. Therefore, this left nostril is the deity, this is the moon, and the moon is the principle of water, and water is movement again. So we, all creatures, all animals, all vegetation, are powered through the moon, moving, and so on. Our rain coming is also from the moon. The yogī knows that first we balance our left nostril. The right one is more balanced and of a different principle. Therefore, on certain days, you should be fasting. You think fasting is okay, not eating is okay. We should know what it means for my inner self, how to balance and control. The right nostril is the sun, and that completes balancing from the Sahasrāra Cakra down to the foot soles. Between that is the balance, which is called Kuṇḍalinī, Iḍā, Piṅgalā, and Suṣumṇā. These are the three nerve systems. Mostly, people get brain attacks or have half of the body paralyzed, but mostly, you know, it is the left side. If there is a doctor, they will know more about it because there is the power of the moon. Therefore, we have to balance and do more prāṇāyāma with the left nostril. If the attack takes place from the right side, then it is not so easy; it is more likely to be fatal because that is like the sun, which is like an earthquake. So this is the difference between these two principles. Animals don’t know when an earthquake will take place or a flood will come, but they know many things. Dogs, cats, even little ants—when heavy rain comes and a flood comes, they can feel it. Ants will take their eggs and place them somewhere on a tree. When people notice that ants are carrying hay onto trees, it is an indication that 100% rain will come, and that much water will come on the ground. Within 24 hours, you can make an experiment; go and see. Is nature so? Animals know, but humans don’t know. Humans have some kind of feelings, like a headache, and the most sensitive are females. So mostly women have headaches, and at that time they know because there is pressure on the head. Always, when there is a headache, we have to see that the environment will be disturbed. So if you practice left nostril breathing, your headache will go away, and maybe it will not come back. But practice every day with the left nostril and then the right nostril. Similarly, animals have that feeling that something is happening. They know—they don’t know, but they know something—so they hide themselves. But humans have sin and good. For animals, there is no hell and heaven because they have to go through it. Do they have to go through it? But people know what heaven and hell are, and that we call Pāpa and Puṇya. Puṇya is good things, and the other is bad actions. In this depth, the moon system I am talking about today gives us the indication also: don’t do bad. So, when the soul—all of us and animals—when they know that we have to come to this, our earth... Up to where the humidity comes, in that, when we enter, then our soul is descending. Through that drop, our soul descends—the seed, which is not visible, but the destiny. So now you know what destiny is. This soul comes into this environment of water, and then through this, the moon comes to the earth. This soul automatically goes where it should go. Everything is done, always. So you have your address; you have your navigation. This soul will go to the human. Where will the human go? In Croatia. Where in Croatia? Maybe in Zagreb. In Zagreb where? So the whole, everything is there where the male and female are accepting. There, the soul comes down through the humidity, then it comes to the vegetation, and from the vegetation comes a seed. The seed will again go further, and then this soul comes again in the destiny. So you may become a reptile, a cobra, or any animal. So there are different stages: the first is called the bark, the tree bark. Then the second is coming from dirty water or sweating. So these are like coming and dying, coming and dying. Then the water animals, then the birds, like from an egg. And the fifth one is the beings, humans, or those animals which are born. That is how we are coming step by step. From this, at the highest, we are the human. Now they have their destiny, or God has given it to them: liberation, so that when we die, we go into the light in the cosmos. But it’s not so easy. For a human, it’s a very hard life. There will be suffering, torturing a lot because we are torturing life. That is called Pāpa, and this Pāpa means sin. That sin will... In the Bible, many things are written: where are you going and what will happen? And Dharma, Puṇya, prayers, and giving everyone good things, not bad. So we are born as human, but our mind is constantly moving. We are sitting here, and we are talking somewhere. So there are what are called the five sheaths. These five: one is called the physical body. Let’s call our food and this physical body. That’s called Annamaya Kośa. They are who are living here, eating... So from eating, also our bones, and we have... So we are like this physical body. But the second of that is called the energy body. This energy gives us the ability to move, to work, to speak, to do everything, good or bad. We are ill, we are healthy; all troubles, problems with the body that we have are with our energy. Prāṇamaya kośa is the best. After the prāṇamaya kośa comes the mental sheath, Manomaya kośa. Our strongest is our mind. The mind can go quickly, very quickly. For example, within a second, you can go so far. I will tell you where you will be: let’s say Jupiter—you are already there. We are thinking about Jupiter. Our mind is going, not the body, not energy. Therefore, how much can we control our mind? It is very important how much we can control the mind. After the mind, knowledge comes to the people: Vijñānamaya kośa. Vijñāna means science—the science that comes through our brain. And after that we come to Mokṣa. Yoga is that which is for humans: to come to that highest supreme consciousness and there, as a God. But we have to go through Annamaya Kośa, Prāṇamaya Kośa, Manomaya Kośa, etc. So we have to go through our body. We have to keep our body healthy; we have to take care of our body. This is the first duty of this soul. He is saying, "Please keep my body that I am inside." The first duty of this soul is to say, "Please take care of this body so that I can be safe inside." And when the soul is gone out of the body, then again the nest is gone. Only the soul is going; we don’t know where it will go. And you will come again somewhere. You are Croatian, you like Croatia, you are great that we are Croatian, our country is Croatia, we don’t like this and that—and when you die, you will be gone to that country which you didn’t like. Therefore, don’t say my country and your country. After we go out of our body, we have no chance anymore. It begins from here, from this body, feelings, etc. Yoga is the best for us, and this is the science of yoga. Yoga is the science of humans. So, prāṇamaya kośa, you know, the body, prāṇamaya kośa—health; manomaya kośa—good mind; then vijñānamaya kośa—the science of humans; and then come to God, or whatever you say. All this we have, so concentrate and keep this in your body. Concentrate on it and hold it in your body. Otherwise, it is said: eating, sleeping, and creating children—animals can also do it. O man, if you are again in this attachment, then there is a problem. So that’s why Annamaya Kośa, Prāṇamaya Kośa, and Manomaya Kośa are very powerful. Your mind will always go to something. Where is your mind? Constantly, you are thinking. You are sitting in the office, typing something—one girl, one woman—but constantly she is thinking of that boy: "Would be best, I would like to have." Days and days, she is thinking. What is that? Mind. And that mind leads you there. There is someone, whose name I don’t want to tell, and that person is very good; there is nothing. But it happened. So the person from this country, when she was young, she had a boyfriend. But somehow he left this country and married somewhere else, and he forgot this girl. But this girl didn’t finish; day and night... And I don’t know where she is. No letter, no telephone, nothing. Suddenly one day came some message that your beloved is there. Somehow, God’s address, she phoned. Hard work, and he said, "Yes, hello, how are you? Good, and I hope you are very happy, and everything is okay. I am here, I am married, I have three children, and okay," and so on. But still, the mind is there. And she had, after three years, traveled there, which is about more than twenty hours flying. Coming there, she asked, "I will arrive, and please, can you see? I didn’t come, only the show took the hotel." And he said, "Well, I had no time, therefore I couldn’t come." And he—"Well, I didn’t have time, and I didn’t have time, and I didn’t have time." And they meet. And after, he said, "OK, good, and all the best. I’m very happy to see you, but I’m not very well. I have very bad work." She said, "Can we meet? Still, I’m here for one week." "Oh, good, I will come. Okay, okay, I’ll come back later, maybe." They met again. They had a nice coffee. She had to go back, but she is suffering still. That is a mind, that is a mind. And if the mind is so fixed that we are either in the negative or we are in the positive, that’s very important. So therefore, control the mind. If the mind is controlled, then everything is very good. Like an aeroplane navigator, it takes off from Zagreb and lands in Slovenia, anywhere. So mind is our problem, mind is our problem. O human, control the mind. So, there are desires, there is suffering, and there is torment, and then one goes to the spiritual way. "I want to go the spiritual way. Why? I drink so much alcohol and everything. My boy was terrible. I go now to church. I go to temple. I am searching, Gurudeva." So the brain is completely imbalanced. Many people, they are suffering. Only mind—that is nothing else. Beauty is the mind, ugly is the mind, good is in the mind. The best is in the mind. The Divine is in the mind. Everything is in the mind. So, Manomaya, this mind—control the mind, and all your problems are gone. Now, children have problems, but it’s not the mistake of the children. The parents did not control because their mind is different, and that mind is, that’s called the other feelings. There’s a mind, and so you married again, lost one child, gave it to grandparents. Again you are married, again you divorced, again a second child is there. Three times died, married, now you have seven children from different women. And now, all seven children have a right to the property. That problem again, more. So why is it like this? The problem is that your mind and your energy are not controlled. So, your energy and our mind, when these two are controlled, then comes our knowledge. This is also the subject of yoga. I could have taught you today Dhanurāsana. I could have taught you cobra position or head standing; everyone can have this. But I touched on that one, which is from your toes to the head, from the earth to Brahmaloka, which I try to get you in your happiness, in your joy, in your life, your good time. So write down in your bathroom, where you are sitting in the bathroom, on the door: Annamaya kośa. Prāṇamaya kośa. Manomaya kośa. Jñānamaya kośa. My God. So this is all we have. Swamijī said this and this. Manomaya kośa, the mind. So this is always, or always, it. I am human. No more. My parents were the best. My mother is the best mother. My father is great. My friend is good. Write something good. Think good. I will deny all drugs. I will deny. I will have a good society. Think good. We are human. So, in the next meeting in Croatia again, I think I have to come again next year. Thank you, thank you very much. So next year is very near. We shall study very much these five kośas: Annamaya, Prāṇamaya, Manomaya, Vijñānamaya, and Ānandamaya. Thank you, wish you all the best, and see you again.
