Yoga and nature is one

A spiritual address on the essence of yoga and Ayurveda as a natural way of life.

"Yoga is the science of humans. Yoga is a natural way of life."

"Āyurveda is one of the first ancient medicines. It originates from what we call the Yugas, which span millions of years."

Swami Ji addresses an international gathering at a college in Hungary, following a tree-planting ceremony. He explains the ancient, plant-based origins of Ayurveda and contrasts it with modern chemical medicine, acknowledging the value of both. He discusses the role of diet, particularly sugar, in health, and criticizes purely acrobatic approaches to yoga, emphasizing that "Yoga in Daily Life" is a holistic system for health and longevity. The talk expands into spiritual themes, stating we are all God and that our actions determine our fate.

Filming location: Vép, Hungary

Dear blessed Self, our esteemed guest, all our practitioners of Yoga in Daily Life from different countries, and the director of this college. This morning was a very beautiful day. We have done beautiful work, and we are very happy that we could see the city, or the village, Vép, and we planted a beautiful tree. Likewise, in this beautiful college, we planted a very beautiful tree for peace and the fulfillment of a wish. Hungary is a very distinct country. Within Europe, we still cannot fully grasp the origins of the Hungarian people. It is like a diamond in our ring. It is beautiful. Yoga is the science of humans. Yoga is a natural way of life. There is a first principle; it is called vegetation. This means our nutrition comes from vegetation. And that we call Āyurveda. Āyurveda is one of the first ancient medicines. It originates from what we call the Yugas, which span millions of years: Satya Yuga, Dvāpara Yuga, Tretā Yuga, and Kali Yuga. This knowledge was brought forth as medicine, as vegetation. Our modern medicine is, of course, beautiful and very good; nothing is wrong with it. It saves our lives. Yet, this kind of medicine—what is it? It is chemicals. It is not acceptable, neither for living beings, nor for humans, nor for the vegetarians. When we take this medicine, though it originates from Āyurveda—meaning the names of all these things—in our whole world, on the entire earth, there are different kinds of plants and trees, and that is life. In that ancient time, that was the best medicine for us. But all the different kinds of new medicine we have, their names ultimately come from certain names of plants, vegetation, trees, etc. In this medicine, we have words from the Latin language. All the letters, everything in medicine, is from Latin words. And Latin is derived from Sanskrit. The Sanskrit language is the mother of almost all the world's languages. Of course, many things change. So in the Hungarian language, there are many, many words you use that are Sanskrit words. Now, what is our present situation? The chemicals, the medicines, have names that also come from nature, but that nature has been altered. For example, there are beautiful grapes; anyone can eat them. But when they are changed, they become alcohol. And alcohol is completely different. Similarly, medicine from Āyurveda turns into chemical things. Of course, again, it saves our life. If an accident or anything happens, this medicine is very, very important. But when we give some tablet or injection or anything, our natural body does not accept it. It is completely different. It is like milk and lemon: when a drop of lemon goes into the milk, it splits. But of course, we are thinking and checking for medicine and for any kind of problems. When we bring remedies from Āyurveda—Āyurveda is all these trees we see, this grass, many, many things—this is Āyurveda. When we eat a fruit, it is natural, and when we eat it, the body accepts it in such a nice way because our body says, "It is my vegetation." So many diseases we have cannot be dealt with through Āyurveda. Now, Āyurveda also means our way of eating. And in this time, humans have lost their way of cooking, and through this, they become ill. The white sugar we are consuming mostly, this in the whole world, this white sugar. Now, some doctors and scientists have told me—I am not a scientist, neither this nor that; I am just a little yogī—but mostly, cancer is created from white sugar. Some people are making white sugar into so-called natural sugar, which is grey or brown. But that is not the real one. They color it from white sugar. The real sugar is different. And in that is what we call the sugar cane, honey from fruits, etc. So if we want to be healthy and live a healthy, long life without suffering... We should not die while suffering. The time will come while sleeping; the soul will say, "Now I am going." There is no pain, nothing, no suffering. But it is that our tongue is very, very... I would say the word: our tongue is the cause of diseases. And our tongue has immense influence on the hormones in the body, so that we can also save and also bring health. But you know, only this little piece of flesh, the tongue, and what taste we think we are eating and drinking is only for the tongue area. After that, nothing. When we swallow it from the vocal cord, then no more taste. When it goes into the stomach, we do not just feel the sweet, bitter, etc. So only this tongue is our enemy, and it means that we are slaves of our tongue. And that is why we are very, very ill. So Āyurveda is not like what we are talking about, like these hospitals and all this and that. But there are Āyurveda hospitals. It is said in old times, there was only Āyurveda. And the Āyurvedic practitioners were even doing brain surgery. Yes, it is said. So yoga and nature are one. If you go for exercises where you are running too much, or what we call jumping up and down—circus people, what do you call it? Acrobatic. That is not yoga. Yoga is a body. Yoga is a life of humans. Yoga is the life which can give us long, long life and happiness. So it must not be that you are practicing head standing. It must not be, but there are certain exercises that affect the whole body. You can make an experiment for two weeks. Every day, a few times, do only this exercise, nothing else. And see in two weeks what will happen. It goes to the whole body, to all the muscles, the bones, etc. So yoga is now in the whole world, but they are doing it wrong. They are doing you wrong, very wrong, and therefore they are more ill. When they cannot practice, they will go away, and their nourishment is not good. So Yoga in Daily Life is a scientific system, and in the whole world, it is a very... The whole world is Yoga in Daily Life. Of course, many yoga is very good also. Many good yogīs from India came and spread yoga here too. There was also one yogī from India who lived long in Hungary. What was his name? Yesudian. Yesudian brought yoga to Hungary, but before that also someone, but such yogīs are not here anymore. If you want to make a yoga demonstration, then, my God, twist your body like this and like that and say, "Oh, yoga, good, good," that is nothing. So thanks to the Prime Minister of India, Modiji, he brought this into the United Nations, so yoga has spread throughout the whole world. And he himself practices. He is really a yogī. He is not eating anywhere. Maybe a little water, warm water. And when Baba is working, after He comes about, whenever about ten, eleven, twelve, He comes into His room. And there, someone gives Him one bowl of some food, from the seeds. That is all. Neither he said more, nor did he say, "Why not? Good, this, eat this." And it seems he sleeps three to four hours, and he practices yoga. You know, his life is very, very busy, but he is a great person. I am not talking from the view of politics, but as a person, that is what I am saying here. So in our Yoga in Daily Life, we have so many—how many hundreds of thousands of yoga teachers around the whole world. Kṛṣṇānanda, how many Yoga in Daily Life teachers in the whole of Hungary? More than 200 teachers in Hungary. And many teachers they have, but they have no place to offer them yoga. So this is just Hungary; our neighboring countries also. So yoga is for our life, and this, for our life, means to live happy and healthy, and then we will think about God or something. When we will go out of the body, we do not know where we will go and what will happen. Everyone said, "Somewhere dead, somewhere dead." We are humans. When the time comes, we go to the grave, guard, and we bring the flowers to the ancestors. And your ancestor, whom you bring flowers to in the grave, but he died sixty years ago. You think he is still in the graveyard? He was born, had children, died again, and again we came back. So we do not know where and how it is. We do say many things, but did you see that? And so someone said, "If you want to see, someone said, Gurujī, Mahārāj, Yogī, can you tell me where's God?" Then he said, "If you want to see God like this, then die." Oh, will I see God? Okay, he died. And he said, "What will happen if I do not see God then?" It is your problem. So, we are God. If we are God, our feeling is God. Our father is God, our mother is God, our brother, our sister is God, we are God, our children are God, all is God. If we do good, we will get good. If we do bad, we will go bad. And there is no God who will every day count you, "Come, come,... go." God said, "Go, die and be born, go and be born, finished." God said, "I gave you this life, and now you should do what you want." So yoga is very, very healthy: physical exercise, the breathing exercise, concentration, concentration, meditation, and particular techniques of the postures. And so, we have that in Hungary very, very much. Many teachers are there; they open schools, and they are teaching yoga again. But it does not matter; it is Yoga in Daily Life, systematically. So yoga is life. Yoga saves our life and takes us into the supreme. So thank you very much, and thank you to our guest here. Thank you very much. And I think you should organize yoga once a week for your village or city, without money. Without money, whoever wants to practice can come, and in summer, in the gardens. You can see who is practicing yoga and who will take only medicine. What is the difference? So, thank you very much, and thank you all of you for taking your time, and your directors, and all our guests, Kṛṣṇānanda Svāmī, Viveka Purī, and all others. Thank you.
