Yoga and Life

The human life is a precious opportunity for the soul's eternal journey. Yoga is the cosmic principle and science for health, not merely exercise. Among 8.4 million life forms, only humans possess intellect to discern good from bad and can cease the cycle of rebirth by uniting with the cosmic light. Time is abundant; one must use it wisely for spiritual practice. The soul resides within, connected to the body's centers like the navel and heart. The body contains millions of life forces, yet one primary soul seeks liberation. Practice begins with mindful awareness each morning.

"Humans can do something. They have the last chance that now either you or we become one with God or the universe, and we will come back no more."

"When we wake up in the morning... Say only one word... 'I am human.'... the whole day, your time, your day will be very happy and very good."

Part 1: The Eternal Journey: A Satsang on Human Life and the Soul Oṁ Guru Brahmā, Guru Viṣṇu, Guru Devo Maheśvarāha, Guru Sākṣāt Parambrahmā, Tasmai Śrī Gurue Namaha, Dhyāna Mūlam Guru Mūrti, Pūjā Mūlam Guru Padam, Mantra Mūlam Guru Vākyaṁ, Mokṣa Mūlam Guru Kṛpā, Oṁ Jyoti Paraṁ Brahma Dīpaṁ Save Mohanam Dīpanam Sajitesavam Sandhyā Dīpam Sarvasatyam Om Namo Prabhudīpa Vināśī Api Brahma Api Viṣṇu Apo Kelaskevasi Nijasvarūpa Kegyatā Om Namo Prabhudī Praṇāma Brahmānanda Nūrvāsī Om Bole Śrī Dīp Nārāyaṇa Bhagavān Kī Jaya Śrī Śrī Deva Puruṣa Mahādeva Kī Jaya Nindu Dharma Samrāṭ Paramahaṁsa Śrī Svāmī Madhavānanda Purījī Mahārāja Kī Jaya Viśvaguru Mahāmaṇḍaleśvara Paramahaṁsa Śrī Svāmī Maheśvarānanda. Pūrī Jī Satguru Deva Kī Jai. I was going to introduce Swāmījī, but that’s done. As we are here, Swamiji is going to speak to us about the eternal journey. Just as we were coming in now, the bhajan was being sung: "Manvā Dīre Dīre Cāl Gaganaga Caraṇare Bhai." It is a bhajan urging the disciples, and our mind, to slowly take the path towards that heavenly realm of realization. When you think of that bhajan and of having Swamījī here in the room with us, he is that guide who shows which path to take. The bhajan describes a slippery road with many tricks and trials, ways that you can fall off. It is hard to see in the dark. That is what the Master is for—to give guidance about the turns in the road, the paths we should take, the ways we practice, and how to do that practice. He has the knowledge of how we can be successful. Swamiji was just describing to some lucky people who received mantra dīkṣā that the mantra and the mala are like a passport. Satsang in the presence of a self-realized master allows us to receive that ancient knowledge coming from the Vedas, the ṛṣis, and the heritage of India. It comes through the whole tradition of yoga, distilled, refined, and expressed in a way so simple that we can understand it. To take something so huge and compress it into words, sometimes just one sentence that Swāmījī says enters your heart, and you think, "Oh yes, now I get that." That is the treasure of having a living master whom you can come to satsaṅg with and listen to. So it is definitely not me that we are here to listen to; we are looking forward to Bābajī’s satsaṅg, Śrī Dīp Nārāyaṇ Bhagavān. Good evening, dear sisters and brothers. It is a beautiful evening, and I am very happy to see all of you. I was here once, and this is the second time in this house. There is something becoming more and more. When I came, it was only one couple and one other who came with me. I was thinking, "You will have many people here." I see. Good person, very good. Many of you have been practicing the science of humans, yoga. Some may not know, and some may have only been practicing for a few months or one year. What is yoga? Yoga is the principle, and yoga is that cosmic power. Not these exercises, not singing, not meditating, but it is yoga. What we do—physical exercises—is part of that yogic science for good health. Through this yogic science, we can remain healthy for a long time. We are not physically immortal. Sooner or later, one day, we will go back. But why? We want to have a longer life. This longer life means, according to the yogic science and what the Vedas and scriptures say: in this life, in the human body, this soul should enter into the cosmic energy, cosmic light, and so on. In the creation of this earth, there are five elements which are for all, not only for humans, but for animals also, for all other life. Our planet, our Earth, is a living planet. It is said that 8.4 million life forms are on the earth, which are divided. Jalacara, the creatures in the water; Thalacara, creatures on the earth; and Nabhaçara, creatures in the space. These are the Sanskrit words. So there are some creations that are born in space, die in space, and fly in space, but they are all in this, and we are that. There are 8.4 million [species], and one is the human. Humans can do something. They have the last chance that now either you or we become one with God or the universe, and we will come back no more. Or, if we have not done that duty, then we will again go to the other creatures, and we do not know where it will go. We ourselves cannot tell our soul that we will again become human. Maybe or maybe not. So this is our life, what we are doing. All creatures do not know what is sin or good. They are just living. "Jīva jīva bhakṣyate" is the Sanskrit phrase. Jīva jīva bhakṣyate. Life eats life. And we see that. Bhakṣyate means "to eat." He should kill. Humans should not. Otherwise, you can do it. It is said we humans have these two things: good or bad, sin or the light, divine. So, where we are, we can do. That is why buddhi—buddhi means intellect. Our intellect is powerful, and we can do more and more great, good things. Or we are just like animals, so again they will go as in the animal’s life. Animal life, of course, is still of God, if we believe in God or some principles of life. Again, this is a cycle. It will go and come, go and go. It is like a cycle, and the wheel of the cycle is always coming and going. One is up, down; it is rotating, and we are all going in this way. There is no one who can say, "Please, I will not go this way, I want to go this way." No. Now you can, but after, not. Now, this is the point. Second, we are born, and we say we have a soul, our soul. Where our soul is going, that will come further after. So now we would like to understand that we are human. The best way is to do something and always be alert. Morning, when you wake up, still in your bed, open your eyes and tell one word. This is the best mantra, best power, best for us all. We are human. When we wake up in the morning from a deep and good sleep—and sleep is something; do not take away your sleep. Sleep, deep sleep, long sleep, lifelong. It will be lifelong; it will be life. And you think that you have no time. Why? We have, you all know, just only I am talking, and in this coming world, we have 24 hours for us. And in 24 hours, if we cannot do something for our soul, then really we are lost. So, sleep, eight hours. Who is the lucky person here among us? Deep sleep for eight hours, really. If you sleep eight hours, then you will not be ill. You will have good thoughts, peace, and harmony. But who is the lucky? The little children. We lost it. I could, and eight hours is just nothing. Still, you have how many hours left? Sixteen. Sixteen hours. I fly from here to New York, and from New York I take another airplane, and I am going to Atlanta. And there I go to their house and have a cup of tea there. How long? I said, "Oh God, it was a long, long flight." But we are just taking away this whole time. Sixteen, all right, eight hours for your work, for your companies. If everyone works for their company, their boss will be happy and very rich, and you will also be good. But we try to go here, we try to go to the bathroom for 10 minutes, and then we are going for coffee, and then we are sitting, and we are looking like this. So, but still, we are working for 8 hours. Now, we still have 8 hours. And in these eight hours, we come home, we go shopping, and we are with our whole families, children and all, together. We are cooking something, we are eating, and we are sitting together having a meal. Four hours. What happens? Still more. Where are the four hours? What are you doing? It is okay, we go with your wife or husband or children. Let us go for ice cream or come back. I will tell you the ice cream story, it is very nice. Remind me, please. And so, let us say one hour is gone. Now, three hours, very good, best time. There we shall meditate, practice yoga, or do something for your own body. That is it. We have time, but we lose it with gossiping here and there. So, do not say that you have no time. We have enough time. Life is very precious, and we should not lose time. Okay, so, sleeping. When you wake up, then you open your eyes, or still your eyes are closed, but you are awakened, aware. Say only one word. This is a very holy word, like a great mantra or anything that you think. And we should say, when we awake, then say it: "I am human." It is not difficult, no? "I am a human." When we say, "I am a human," really, the whole day, your time, your day will be very happy and very good. Why? Because if someone does something wrong, or something happens, or someone kills someone, what do we say? Oh God, he is not a human. He is not a human. A cruel one is doing cruelties to anyone or anything. And that heavy load goes to our life in the other direction, to the next life. Now, how do I know? I do not know. Maybe you know, but you know that you will know. When will you know? Not know. No, no, I will not, me also not. On the death day, when we will separate from this body, then the path is there, and you know how quickly the soul is going, like when at night a star falls quickly, when we say, "Look, look, it is gone." So the speed, the soul is so happy. "I will not come in these bodies. I go." That is our soul. Where is it going, and we are crying? We are making this, we do this, this. But the soul said, "I am gone. I was there. I was there to do something good, and now, where will I go?" In Christianity, they said, "Heaven, order, hail." So we have not, we lost it. Humans, not animals. So animals have no sin and no good. They have life to go through now. We are grinding, the seeds are inside, the machine is going, everything will be good. So we will go in that way, and so, if we can, in the morning we get up and say, "I am a human." Suddenly, in your body, in my body, in my thoughts, with your wife, with your children, all will be so happy. But if someone drinks alcohol all night and then comes and says to his wife, "You did not make breakfast, I am so..." What is that? Therefore, negative thoughts and words are negative for us and harmful for us. So this is one, if you do, I am only telling you that it would be good. Second, when we wake up from bed, sooner or later we will go to the bathroom or where water is. We were sleeping the whole night, and now we come and open the water tap. The first water, when it touches our hands—tomorrow, please try to experience this—how good is the water? And there is one called the Boda telephone, no? The Boda phone. And you know some of the Boda? Who knows? So one, two, three, okay. Boda means water. And all this part of Russia, and Croatians, and all this, Hungarians, and Slovenians, and so on. They say all, it is called Vodha, water. What language is that? Russian, yeah, also Slavic. And so, Vodha. So, Bodha, and now what is that? I am talking to go into my inner self, the eternal path. So, now, the water they say there, Vodha Ajivot. Bodha Ajīvod. The water makes life. Or water itself is life. Bodha, Ajīva, Ajīva means life. Now life is not complete. Jīvā means the soul. And everywhere, water is necessary. Then it is the life of the water, and in our Indian language, we say, "Jal jahā̃ jagadīś." Jal means water. "Jal jahā̃ jagadīś" means where there is water, there is God. What does God mean? Life, and so we should not make our waters throw here and there, and too much washing all the time. No. Water is life. In this way, the yogī is thinking. Some people, they are opening this water tap and washing, water is filling, newspaper, oh, and water is running. So, one man was making the beers, and the moustache was cleaning or saving. I saw it, my God, the water is being wasted so much. So, I say to myself, I will not save the water every day. And that is why I have the beers here. Yes, I do not want to say anything to you. Thank you, but God has created women without hair, while men have it, and therefore men should have a beard. Otherwise, sorry. Now, in this way, our life and all others’ life—life is a life. Now, in our body, we have not only one soul. In our body are millions of souls. Life, that is life. Every little drop of blood, and we see how many lives, the cells in this, in our life. So, it is like a honey bee, and there is one queen, and all the others are the bees; they are bringing the nectar and this. Similarly, we have one soul. Where is it? Perhaps I will have time to tell you. Always in my heart is here. My heart is here, my heart. So perhaps it is here we will come to that point, very nice. So, there is not only one jīva, not one soul. Still, there is suffering inside our body. And so, let us say, where is our soul living in our body? And now we make an experiment. I will not tell you where in the kidney or where the soul is, or in the brain or this; I do not know. I will ask you, and you will tell me. So please, when I give you one hand, one finger, two fingers, or the whole hand, like this, then we will close our eyes, except for myself. So, all have to close your eyes, otherwise we will, how to call it, freeze. So, I will tell you where your soul is, or where you are. But leave the eyes open still. I am not giving you longer. So, where we will touch our finger, I will say, "Where are you? Where is your soul?" So now, your one finger is here. It is a freedom for you. Touch here, touch here... there, here, there, eyes, there, here, here, hair, top, tip, anywhere, your freedom. But do not open your eyes, number one. Number two, when you put your finger there, where is your soul, or your God, or your "you"? Put the hand there, but do not remove it again. Then I will say, please open your eyes and see where your hand is. And still there, and see to everyone who has hands there. The majority is always, and maybe the majority is still wrong. Part 2: The Inner Body and the Journey of the Soul My dears, this is a very important thing for us to know. Hold up one finger or your hand like this. Now, close your eyes. Do not move. Hands up. Yes, I can see if you are not putting it above your head. Thank you. Eyes closed. I tell you, please place your hand where your life, your soul, is. Touch yourself. Where are you? Use only one finger, not all five fingers, otherwise I don’t know. I’m sorry. And don’t remove it any more. Leave your hand there. Okay, your finger, touch there. And open your eyes, please. Look first to your head. Don’t look to others. And now, look to others where they are. We always tell our heart, "Here it is." We say it is me, it was mine, I am here, here is the soul. But the soul is that one soul, not all. Therefore, clean our heart, clean our heart. The whole body, which is within our machines—our machines—everything, our inner workings, like engineers working. Now, how honest is our body? God gave us a body, and it is very loyal, very loyal. When we dive deep into the ocean, as far as we can, for one minute, perhaps two minutes, maybe some three minutes, again you will come out. But in that one minute, the heart did not stop when we were in the water. Still, the heartbeat is there. The heart is so loyal; it doesn’t matter what we do, the heart always has the heartbeat. And so there is our soul in some way. Another thing, when we come to our inner part of the body, it is said in our Indian spiritualities and knowledge, in what we call the holy books Upaniṣad. The Upaniṣads are from the Vedas, and the Vedas are from the Ṛṣis, and the Ṛṣis are from the Smṛti, and this is more together. Now, what the avarīṣis said, and what we are saying, is what the Upaniṣads said. The Upaniṣads are 18 Upaniṣads, and it is said: "Mātṛ Devo Bhava"—the first God for humans, or rather also mother. "Mātṛ Devo Bhava." Then comes "Pitṛ Devo Bhava," the father. "Ācārya Devo Bhava," the teacher. And the master, guru, "Devo Bhava." Now, what I mean is, what is a god? Mother. The soul is in space anywhere. We don’t know how or when it comes. And we cannot say that this soul, my soul, should come back again into my heart. It will not come. And so it is life together: the space, water, earth, etc. And then it enters into the body, but that entering is in oneness. But now it becomes for us like, "My God, my mother." The soul enters into the navel, except for other creatures which are flying. They have the eggs. After developing there, this is another kind of life, which I am talking about. That is what is born as the embryo. So, mother in the navel, and so in our only one point. And then you think, "No, still we don’t know, there is no soul, there is no jīva, no life." This is in the Indian alphabet; we have 52 letters there, which are for every organ and power there, that is coming together. And so one is the navel, and the navel is there. How can it go? This soul of our soul, our energy, is moving to the brain and to the navel and to all centers of the body. That is the inner journey, only with that navel, with that is the seed. And when the seed is fried in hot water, then it’s gone. So that is here. For example, if you want to know, then please sit a little bit straight. Touch your palm here, where the navel is. Anything I will tell you, and after me, you tell the same words, okay? This is number one. Number two: all the times, where is the moving, the first movement in the body? That will be in the navel here, or which one? So I will tell you something, and you say, "I will not tell something bad." I will tell you good things, okay? Say hello. Hello. Good friend. Water? Fruits? Mother? Father? My brother. Good. What? What am I holding? Perfect. All right. Thank you. Yes, it was nowhere, but that was the first there, here, and that’s called the resonance. And resonance is called Nādarūpa Parabrahma. The Parabrahma, the supreme, the highest of God, what we say, there is no form. And so there are all these elements, instruments in our body, and they are connecting here. So, again, water, food, my car, traffic, oh God. Now, very good, okay. Now, there are in the Sanskrit words, and there are, how is it said? So there are certain points where the navel will not move. And when the navel needs to move, the tongue will not move. The tongue is just like a dead body, like this. And when the navel moves, the tongue will also. So this is, you can try. So, like this, listen carefully. One first alphabet: A, A. We did not move the navel. Look at your tongue, mouth a little open. A. Good? Good. Pani? Eating? Eating. Brother? Good? Good. Air? Air. Oh God. Oh God. Deep sleep? Deep sleep. The tongue is moving. But the first word is, so, ah, ah, the navel doesn’t move, ooh, the tongue is not moving in the mouth. If you say, mmm, mmm... So it is like this, mmm, so the connection to our navel and our soul and the consciousness on the top of the head. And this is the connection between both: very bad, very good. But first is the mother side. So again, very good. Then, very good. The vibration on the whole head. When someone has a headache often, or something like that, this sound can make our head relax again. Tension is gone. Troubles are gone. These are the centers: the navel, the heart, the throat, and the head. That is what we call chanting the Aum. No, there is nothing to do with religion or no religion. Okay, come on, you can. This is not a religion, no religion. Then why is he moving this or not? So it is a body, the inner science of the humans within our self. So we try it: A, U, M. That’s the real chanting of the Om. Other people generally are all saying Om. Only three, but we are in the five. One, through the navel, comes the vibration, then the heart, then the vocal cord, and then it comes to the brain, the centers. Chakra, according to this chakra book. Have you this "My Chakra" book somewhere? The calendar is right here. Yeah. So, we had that bigger... Yes. So, this is that book. Ah, that’s very good. It’s also very good. So, these are the... In our body, there are many, many, many chakras. The foot sole is the Earth Chakra. From the ankle joint to the knee is the vegetation. From the knees to the hip joints are the animals. And from the bottom of the spine till here, our neck, where the spine is finished, that is for humans. And then comes here one point that is called the divine. And this divine is all that we call, you can say God, or you can say the best, or whatever it is. And so from that is Mūlādhāra Chakra, from the bottom of the spine until the center here. So these are the chakras: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6. These are the chakras, very powerful, and this is called the third eye. And then there is this bindu, it is here on the top of the head, everyone has it here. And when your hair is cut, then you will see here, there is one, what you call the Kukhvel Kālīyā. And then there is Krishna or Shiva. These are the centers; it has to go through. Now, of course, this is a—someone has, I don’t know who this is—someone made this kind of picture; we call it the lotus. How the lotus opens and the lotus goes again. In this, so there are many other chakras, and the same thing in the human body: there are 72,000 nerves in the body. When we die, some nerves are missing, and some bones are also missing. Where did you lose it? So God said, "Where is that? Go back and bring it back." Yes? So, and therefore, we should have the complete, otherwise it is missing. So, how will we keep all this? And therefore, fewer operations, and many things breaking, this and that. So, care, complete body. Give this back to nature, our body as it is. So this is about many, many nerves, and these are centers which we have chanted from here, Nābhi, the navel. And it came here, so this is a book you should have. And if you don’t like it, you give it back to me. Okay? So I will give further to others, double money. A joke, okay? Sorry. So in this way, we have to take care first about our body, our organs, our waters, and eating; we should take care. You know, someone said, "I like my food, I want to eat this." All the taste that you want, including alcohol, is only until the mouth. After that, the vocal cords, you swallow down either ice cream or other things. We don’t know, the stomach does. So this is one taste. So this is a very big problem for all creatures and humans, mostly the taste, the taste of the tongue. And that can make many problems for us. So if we can take care of our life, our bodies, what I eat, what I do not eat, how I should eat, etc. If we want to keep our body—now, our body and our constitution are wholly what God made—so we have these five elements we can see. One is called the body of nourishment. There is water and solid food, and through that, we also have our bones, and so on. The second is called energy. So, through this nourishment and energy, what is coming to us, either negative or positive? When you put more alcohol in your body, you have negative thoughts. And if someone has this, so many different things. But there is nothing to say but the five elements. So, the body of nourishment, then the body of energy, then the body of the mind, and then the intellect and the divine consciousness. These are the five elements which God has constructed for humans and other animals. Mahāprabhujī Karatā Mahāprabhujī Karatā. I changed my mind. I’m sorry, I wanted to come, but I changed my mind. American television, many times, I changed. So I said, when you change your mind, why don’t you change your body? So, once they said, "Can you teach me something about how to change my body?" I said, "Yes, in the graveyard." So, this is how we are doing in our bodies. So, these are the five. The nourishment, the energy, the mind, the intellect, or the knowledge, and the second is the conscious. That is the inner part of our body, and that is what we are doing. Furthermore, we have yoga; many, many practice it. All yoga is very good. But don’t do that kind of yoga; it’s not very good. Now they call the alcohol yoga, wine, the wine yoga. Yes, it is. So, like this, such things are not necessary. Yes, and also many things. But do yoga practice slowly, comfortably. Mahāprabhujī kī kṛpā, Mahāprabhujī kī kṛpā. How is our body? How are our nerves? How are our knees? Yes, my God. Knees, yes. We were running on the beach in the sand, and now we cannot move. It is our body, our body. So many things which are there, we did not eat properly, and we eat too much, and that’s why the problem is there. So, the inner part of our whole body, the doctor knows, the surgeon knows, but that surgeon knows only 10%. Rest all, no one can know. It is God’s what has all happened. And so it has, it is time, and it will go. But if we can work on our body, then our soul will go to the cosmic Self. And so this is not only one soul; there are many souls. There is one beautiful prayer, but I will not sing it completely. But it is said very nicely, but you will not understand, therefore I will not say. Yeah, but it is said, the ice cream story, oh, that was very good. I will get up at midnight and say, "I must give them," but I have forgotten. And then I will send into them that is dream. Okay, so there was a couple, a husband and wife, who were very happy together, very nice. The man was a singer, and then it was winter, and he got some problem with his shoulder. So, but they were walking, going through the supermarket or the normal market, and there was one beautiful shop with ice cream. And there were many nice temptations, you know. So, the husband said to his wife, "Darling, let’s go and have an ice cream." She said, "Yes, dear, that’s a very good idea." But you know, the doctor said your throat is still not healthy, so wait for some time. When you’re okay and healthy, then we will have. My husband is inside thinking, "I hope, I think I would have come alone here, not with my wife." So he said, "Okay," and they went home. He was thinking all the time. After one week or ten days, he was dreaming. He was dreaming that his wife said to him, "I am healthy, and let’s go and have ice cream," the wife said. So he was so happy in the dream. And he is coming. They went to the ice cream shop, and they are sitting there. And he is so happy, and she is happy. And there was an ice cream bowl, very nice, big. He said, "Give me one more." So it was very nice. And now he takes the spoon in the dream. And the spoon comes close to the lips, and then, he walks away. He walked up. How? His wife, she just got up and went to the bathroom, so he awakened. Oh, God. I cannot eat, even in the dream, the alcohol or not alcohol—sorry, the ice cream. So that is our consciousness; it is different. So this is another year’s, or other next time when I come, maybe like you talk on the subject. Do you know, all of you here, when you can sleep? Not that you just lie down and this and that, but in which seconds it goes in another direction, where all this is there. And we are sleeping. After that, it goes somewhere as a dream. So the body is here, and in a dream you are, let’s say, on the sun coast. You are with the sun, coast there on the beach, and you are sleeping here. And suddenly something happens, immediately, no seconds, you are again awakened. How goes your consciousness or your soul? There, you are sleeping, you don’t know where it is, how did you get out, astral body, how? So, there are other techniques, very nice. So next time, otherwise, if I tell you everything, next time I have nothing. So thank you, God bless you, my dears. Hari Om.
