Be faithful to your path

The light of faith dispels the darkness of doubt. When the sun sets, a small flame can illuminate the night. Similarly, spiritual light is always present, even when obscured by sadness or negativity. This inner light is found in the present moment, not the past or future. All life, from stones to oceans, contains this divine presence. Humans possess a special radiance, yet often animals flee from it, sensing danger. True faith requires unwavering confidence, not just words. The relationship with a spiritual guide is singular and foundational, like that with one's mother. Practice kindness and humility, offering your seat to others, for this generosity ignites the divine light within.

"Leave your hands away from the rock." "So stupid I am not."

"Once you have a guru for blessings and mantras, that guru is your guru."

Part 1: The Flame of Faith and the Presence of God Śubhaṁ karoti kalyāṇaṁ ārogyaṁ dhana sampadaḥ, Śatrubhūde vināśāya dīpa jyotir namostute. Dīpa jyoti parabrahma dīpaṁ sarve mohanaṁ, Dīpān sajate sarvaṁ sandhyā dīpaṁ sarva satyam. Oṁ śāntiḥ śāntiḥ śāntiḥ. Blessed self, dear sisters and brothers, welcome this evening to our beautiful ashram. This place, for many years, has been called the Yoga in Daily Life Center. It depends on the spot. This house has different karma. Some rooms have different activities, other rooms have other activities. But here we have a very spiritual atmosphere, and spirituality is not so easy to find nowadays. Negativity is everywhere, but when the sun is rising, the darkness disappears, and when the sun sets, then darkness comes. There was a man from India, a very good poet who is no longer with us; he has passed away. In the city of Calcutta in India, by the river Gaṅgā—did you hear about the Gaṅgā River? Who doesn’t know? So that is the holy Gaṅgā, beginning from the Himalayas, from the glaciers, and it flows onward into the holy rivers, to the ocean, to what we call the holy place. Calcutta is there, and a big deceiver is coming there. That poet had a beautiful ashram. One part was the house, and another was for his meditations and teachings. He received the Nobel Prize for his poetry. One day on the bank of the river Gaṅgā, his hands were behind his back, and he was walking with a long beard—a little bigger than my beard. That’s why I have no poetry here. The sun was setting over the river. He began to think: when the sun sets, there will be darkness. How will we live without light? That is what he was thinking from his point of view. The sun was saying, "What will I do? Now my time is gone. I am going. Now it will be dark." At that time, the sun was still about two meters above the horizon. At that moment, in an ashram, there was a beautiful Śiva temple where the bell was ringing for the evening prayer. He turned to that side, and there was a nice flame in the temple. On one side, the sun was setting, and on the other, there was a small, tiny flame. This tiny flame said, "My lord, I am not so strong that I can give light to all. But I will do my best to give everyone the light, the flame of the light." He turned to the other side, and the sun was setting, and this little light gave light for the whole night. Similarly, light is for everyone, always. That light is always light, and darkness is always darkness. There are many different kinds of light. If someone is very sad, it is like a darkness for the person, a deep sadness. Sadness has many different kinds. This morning I gave a talk about the three qualities: anger, hate, and jealousy. Sometimes the sun sets and darkness comes, but a new light arrives. Many people come and they have only one day’s time. They say, "Sorry, I have my children at home. I cannot stay longer. I will come only one day." So the master, or the guru, or whoever is teaching—if you want to come for one weekend or one seminar, then make it complete. This was about 15 months ago—nearly one and a half years. I told her, Yamunā, please make it complete so that I can give you something. The fruits bring the tree, the blossoms, flowers, and we are very joyful that now the fruits will come. But the path goes down. Or what happens? A nice fruit comes, and they say, "Oh, this is a cherry, a beautiful cherry." And then a very strong storm comes, and again you fall down suddenly. So beautiful, a big cherry tree. In the beginning, it was blossoming completely full, but many things fall down, as fruit falls down. Let’s say from that 20%, the fruits are there, and from this 20% also, now you don’t have here, but in other countries, there are some worms. But the fruit is very nice. Now, you can think: one day, in meditation, there is one technique I am teaching. We will do it with open eyes. Imagine a very nice, big, dark, red cherry. Imagine that this cherry is going into your mouth and the cherry juice is expanding. How nice it is. I have a mouth, what do you call it? The saliva in the mouth. Yes, so that is your joy and your work, what you did from the seed in the ground till there, but it didn’t last completely. Many are lost, but someone will be found. I think also that many times people are coming for one day, or half a day, and then going. But it is that which is complete, the joy within being human. Humans are more happy because on the tree there is a very nice, gentle plant, the leaves, flowers, beautiful blossoms, and fruits. How beautiful, and how many bees are there? Many, many bees. Then come the other animals, and still some bees are coming. It gives us joy. The birds come, they eat also. Similarly, the human enjoys this world: the nice ocean, nice waves, many lives in the ocean, nice green grass, gentle, nice bush, nice trees, birds of different kinds, many snakes. Yes, all life. In Australia, I think many creatures are not found in other countries. Many, many different things. So, we are among these different creatures, we humans. One day, think: you sit in your garden, with flowers and fruit. If there was nothing, only rocks, how long would you sit on the rocks? So birds are coming, nice fruits are coming. So, oh human, please love them, feed them, but don’t eat them. They are our friends. Who knows, it was your brother, or your son, or your wife in a past life. And she’s nearly coming to you. Yes. Maybe it was your wife. That husband was not so good. And she came in the snake form, and you know, she’s angry. That’s called the red belly. There is nowhere else, only in Australia, a red belly. There is anger in that, and she comes slowly to the husband’s side. And you know what we are feeling in our heart. So, why am I talking like this? To bring something into our body, into our centers of the heart, and into everything. Yesterday and today, where I stay in the hotel—it’s about 15 minutes driving—there is a part of the ocean. Water is coming and going, and there are many trees on the beach. Mahāprabhujīdīp Karatā, Mahāprabhujīdīp Karatā. Take the sound. Early morning when the sun rises, at that time again the birds are singing, dancing. Yogīs say that in the morning and evening, every creature is thinking about God. Now, how do they know God? Then they will tell you, "How do you know God?" Humans also will say this and that, but they don’t know what God is. So God is everywhere, everywhere: in the sand, in the stones, in the forest, in the ocean. Everywhere is the presence of God. So, if you want to become a yogī and purify, then you should learn from nature. Try with nature. Nature loves nature, but humans have something inside, such a radiance, that no animals would come clearly near to humans. I was in Africa a few times, in the wild, with lions. They are sitting, and when we see them, our heart beats faster every time. Our taxi or jeep was there, so we stopped and looked. There were about 10 or 15 lions lying there. One gets up, looks a little bit, and then sleeps again. But what I want to see is that there are four lions, with four birds sitting on their heads or somewhere. And they say nothing. See how the birds were sitting there. Okay, why not? But did you see in the forest or anywhere on a bushwalk, where there are many birds, did you see a bird come and sit on your shoulders or on your head? Every creature will run away when humans are coming. Why? We are human. We are good. We love them. We are good. But still, such a radiance—they know that humans will kill us, except our house pets. There are some people there, and also there still. In Italy, there was one holy friar from Assisi. When he was going, the bird was sitting on him, or he could come close to the bird. They come and sit. Others where no one can sit. In Australia, there is one tapu. I was there long ago. There is only a flight, a little flight. You should have only a maximum of 15 kilos, and a little island. There are a few houses, and people are living there. And there I saw that all birds and anything, they are just sitting and walking. Śrī Śrī... Very negative, very negative energy. We human to human are also enemies. So, how should we come, and how do we understand what God is? There are some people who do not believe in God, and some who do believe in God. Some believe in a particular God. Even we believe in the stone, and some do not. So there is one man, he is very kind, very humble, everything. But he doesn’t believe in God, at least. His hobby is climbing on the rocks. That was his very good thinking, his belief in everything. So he goes to the Himalayas, to the high hills there, and he has no fear of anything because he said there is no God, there is nothing. They always say there is a God, but in the Himalayas, there should be God? There is no God, nothing. Now, perhaps God gives him a lesson. He was climbing on the rock, very high, about 5,000 or 6,000 meters altitude. He has rocks holding, and his rock is broken. With one hand holding here, the other hand tries to hold it, but down there is a rock somewhere to fall down, with nothing to hold. Then that man said, "I don’t believe in God, but if you are God, then show me, then I will believe you. I believe you if I see you, the God, and then I will tell all that God is living and God is there. Show me." Suddenly God appears, on another rock about 10 or 20 meters away. He said, "Who are you?" God said, "I’m God." "Oh, thank you. Thank you. Please. If you are God, then you can save me." God said, "Of course." "Then, you know, all my properties and everything, I will give it away. With big posters: God is living, God is there, God is this, everything." So God said, "Do you believe now in me?" He said, "Please don’t make arguments. First, save me." God said, "Don’t worry." He said, "You are not worried, I am worried. Please, my hands are just... very soon my fingers will be broken." God said, "It’s okay. Now, do you believe in me?" He said, "I believe in you, my Lord." "Do you really believe in me?" "I do. Please save me." He said, "No problem." "Do you trust in me?" God said. "Yes, I trust in you, God." "Will you do everything?" "I will do everything." Then God said, "Leave your hands away from the rock." "So stupid I am not. God, so stupid I am not like you." Then God said, "Then remain hanging there." So, where is the confidence? That was a test of confidence. Sometimes we say God is God like this and that, but when something happens, then you will say, "I believe." Which God do you believe? Some say Allāh, some say Buddha, some say Kṛṣṇa, some say Rāma, some say Jesus. All the time calling this and this and that. So, practice today, then that way, confidence. It will be different every day. We don’t know what will happen in the next second. The past is gone. The future is still not there. The presence is what we are. And in this presence, we should do what we can. Every second to second is already past. So don’t cry over the past. Don’t think about anything. Because what will you do about the past? Therefore, in yoga, it is said: go ahead. Do not concentrate and meditate on the back side. Others were believing only in the back and not in the front. At present, you are confused. So, we shall practice in the present, eat in the present, think great thoughts, and have good friends, all friends, all good humans. This is a technique of meditation. We have spoken many things about the body, and it is called the inner energy or the eternal journey. The eternal journey is very nicely written on the poster. When I came here, I said, "This is a nice word, but what are they writing here?" They said, "Oh, very good, very good, that’s a very nice journey." But what are you expecting, except your body? I ask today, not before, because every day I am talking, but people are thinking, "How is it?" And then, my body, I know, I feel this: there is a heart, there is this, there is my consciousness, my thoughts, but what is more than this in me? And God is there, but where is He? We fly in the aeroplane, but we don’t see there. We go there, make sometimes some glimpse, some appearing. Your grand God, what are you thinking, or your masters? The masters appear. Or your father, your mother, your friend, your husband, your wife, Mahāprabhujī karatā he kevalam. On earth, there is one handful of earth; inside there are many living beings, and the sand itself is a living being. So our Earth is a living being, and from this living being, we are also one. Life, different kinds of life—we say in our yogic science that there are 8.4 million different life creatures on this, our earth, and in our life here. And these are divided into three: the creatures in the water, and water itself is a life also. And Earth also has many, many creatures there, and it itself is also a life. Part 2: The Oneness of Guru, the Illusion of Time, and the Human Heart And third, [life exists in] all creatures that fly above. So these are the three different realms—what we call life. Everywhere there is life, and one form of this life is human. All other creatures, even a stone, contain life. After ages and ages, this stone will transform into a different part, and life will be inside it, as something divine. It doesn’t matter. There is no time. We have made time. We humans made time. Otherwise, there is no time. We are coming or going. We think we are getting old and young, old and young, but the time that is counting—that’s good. We are more intellectual and everything; we are doing that time and this and that, and we are counting everything. But still, we are in this. And when we die, all five elements will leave our body: the earth, the water, the fire, the air, and the space. This is all. This material is in our body. And in this material, who made this? Now is the time. Someone wrote somewhere that science is better than God. This, and that, I taught, no? You were there? Someone wrote that science is greater than God. So, God… science is good, but limited. And God is limitless. This is in us. And so, when people say, "I study, I study in university," and so on—whatever you do, it is only for this body. And then your knowledge is gone. But that knowledge which goes beyond, we call it devotion, belief. For the science you are believing in, it will still be more different. So science, there is some sense in it. So, what do you say about the will? Which sense? Research. So, we are searching, but it has been searched already. So, there are many things too. Humans talk and talk, saying there is no God. This is a science. Okay, please. But after 98 years, the professors… how are you? I am good, my friend. And there are so many books here. I know. I was searching and searching for many things. But now my science is finished. Where are you going? I don’t know. But I hope that is a science, and that is a science. So, sense—it is the sense which is that science. We said belief in God, but at the same time, what we did, it is real. We have learned. And after many things, when I entered the aeroplane, then I said, "I believe in science." Yes, I say to the aeroplane, "God, I know that I am Brahman, but my disciples are waiting for me. Aeroplane, please bring me safely there." So, from this point to that point, exactly this science, this aeroplane, comes like a bird, flies from here, and exactly sits there. So science is there, there is nothing to say. But what is that? The human brain can learn many things, or it cannot learn. So today we would like to speak about this: that we should believe. Believe. It doesn’t matter in which God or in which energy. But some said there are some meditations, and some people are making meditation and some techniques, and said, "Don’t speak the mantra." You know that? And what they said, that if you say one mantra, for example, Oṁ Namaḥ Śivāya, then take water in your mouth, spit it—no mantra. Oh my God, that’s better. Your access is better. And also, no believing in God, it’s only you. No meditation like this. Be yourself. Sit down without anything. Just go away. Only you. My God. And there are many people going like this, blind. People are going there, and you have to… like, an Australian gave me a very hard time for a visa. Yes. Three months. For two weeks, but Australians are very correct and will check everything, that there is no Chinese illness in incomes, very good, yeah, everything. But it is not. But they go there, and how much money? It’s very expensive. I don’t know, did somebody go there? No, no, there is another one. Yeah, go, it doesn’t matter. So, how much money? And only one week or ten weeks? This is your table. Only you should eat here. You walk only there and sit only there. So, no touching, no talking, no speaking. So it is just like a dead body. We should enjoy, my dear. Okay? Thank you. Mantra, then don’t ask, telephone to your wife at home, her name. She will say, "Yes, and yes, but who, what?" There is no what or nothing. Only empty this. I clean my mouth again. She says, "Are you mad now? Go to the psychiatric doctor. Sorry." Therefore, in my opinion, my master and many masters say they know there is a God, but that God is not like that God. One day you will yourself see that light and peace, but we have to come through this. And don’t change. Always don’t change your masters. If you have someone as your master, the real master, not only for one seminar. Then, for the seminar, this is another. So when you have one master, and now the master, let’s say, passed away. And you are alone now here, and the master is not here. He is physically not here. So then you will say, "I want to seek my guru again, my master." No. How? I want to make it very clear. You have your mother, and your mother has this one child. So now this child has one mother, and you can respect all women as a mother. But the real mother is your mother, and now your mother has died. Some are telling that when they are in the birth, this is called God Mother. Do you know here in this country? Yeah. So that God Mother means a protector, not a mother, but a protector. But only mother. So mother has passed away, but you are still there, here. So always remember, you have only a mother. There is nothing else. You have friends, everything, help, this, this, but a mother is a mother, finished. In your life, there is only one mother. You remember me, please? Understand me? So, if you have one guru, the best guru, a real guru, and you got a mantra, the blessing, then that master is guru, is your guru. But if you like to come to other gurus for a lecture, or to come to me for a lecture, there is nothing wrong. You learn something more, but your guru is your guru. So your wife is once that wife, then there is no more wife, finished. And if you don’t like a wife, it doesn’t matter; go into another room, sleep, and seriously live there. Yes, that is, humans have to learn. Otherwise, it is a problem. Next life is a big problem. Next life, my dear husband, there will be long, long lives and lives. You will not get a wife again. Destiny will say, "Okay, you separated." Now you are a man without anyone. Anyone can go anywhere, in different ways. Sometimes kangaroos, sometimes this, sometimes that. Life is going. God gave, finally, to make one mother and father. Similarly, mother and child. Continuously, we are following. Otherwise, again you spread it, and then you will go to many other animal towns, some rabbits, and some kangaroos, and sometimes, who was very angry at a husband or a wife, then he just… how do you call them, one big, not a crocodile, a crocodile is better. Yeah, no, no, the, the, oh, because, python, python, yes, and python, getting the husband in his, her wife, and she said, "I will digest you slowly, my dear husband. I give you so many universe after other universe, in my within, my all." Or the husband is a snake, and the wife was not so good. So that will go then on that side. So, how are we coming into oneness with that? For your child, for your mother, for your father, everything. Humbleness, kindness—humans have to become there. Yes, there is. You don’t like your husband, or you don’t like your wife, and this is okay. Yes, the other husband can work for you, this and that. And your wife, or another lady, a woman, can come and clean your things and this, why not? Okay. But once you had that one, that one is the one thing. After you can do many things, but that will go again out and out and out. Only humans. Not animals. And so, God, we will have heart. That is very, very… we are very happy. We are very happy that we are human. And now, there are many, many nice words, or it is… please don’t think like that, or I will not… I think next time you will not come here to listen. Because now you said, "What have I done? What have I, Swami, made like?" So, I am not talking about your wife and husband, okay? And mother and father, okay? But what I am talking about, the subject is this: that once you have a guru for blessings and mantras, and that guru, it doesn’t matter if it’s a female guru or a male guru, no. There is no female and no male. Guru means the darkness to the light, and so the Master Guru passed away physically, but his ages and ages he will guide you there if the Master. So, do not always change your masters, but you can come to any master to listen to a lecture, learn something. There are no problems; everything is fine. But the womb of the mother, which has been there, you have grown. And that can only be in one mother, the one first time, the one time you are in the mother’s body. When the mother dies, will you go to some other mother’s stomach again? You cannot. So it is with a master and disciple. And then you must have confidence in your master. It doesn’t matter what it is. The master is giving you that path. That’s all. Master didn’t say to disciple, "Now I will see my master was today drinking alcohol." Why? It’s your problem. It’s your master’s problem. For example, of course, I am not drinking alcohol. Yes. Yeah, so it is. I have, I am going on that path which Gurudev gave me, and that’s all. Otherwise, you are lost. Then you are lost here, and you are lost here. Therefore, one in one. Gurudev said, Holy Gurūjī said, what did he say? And one in all, and all in one. Who? My mother. Who? My father. After that, I don’t know. Similarly, my master, one in all and all in one. Then you will see, yes, your master, you will get realization of that master. Otherwise, knowledge is… books are many things, many, many things. We can read many things. So, take it once you have done it and come to every satsaṅg. You can go to some other satsaṅg, but when someone will go and someone will say, "No, no, that master is not good, and this is not good; he died, or this… I am giving you new mantras and dīkṣās, and I can levitate you." Very good. No problems. Let me teach about levitation, yeah? But be careful, because when we fall down, then your spine is broken. So there is no levitation, and if you want levitation, go with me. How? In an aeroplane. Yeah, now there is technology. Why are you trying this? So sometimes one said, "I give you some magic," and then this magic, there is nothing. As humble, as kind, as slow, it is like this. There is no competition, and there is no point in saying that I am better and you are not. The real yogī and real yoga disciple, they will say, "First you run and win it." I will come slowly. That’s it. So, always, you know, mostly all of you, when you are having some fruits or something, you offer and say, "Please take yourself first," yeah? We are all saying, no? But for competition, I will take my food, and this is animals. Animals are fighting sometimes. But we humans, we, please first take your seat. Often, we say in the bus or somewhere, and there is one elderly person there, we stand up and say, "Please, you sit." There is no competition. There is a competition for happiness, for joy. This is a competition. Now you should make that kind of competition. Give help to others. Give us a path. This is called humbleness. And the best way of our life is where our heart will be happy. And this person will say, "No, no, you can sit, please." You say, "No, no, please." And that person will, whenever he sees you, say thank you. And sometimes even they will say, "Oh, I was so tired, and you gave me this seat. Thank you." Many times he will say, "Thank you." That means that divine light came to your body from your heart, and you offer it. That is a yogic science, through and through. Now, I will meditate a little bit, okay? So, first of all, you get up. Ah, oh my God. Open the windows. Tāḍāsana. Yes. And on the toes, one and two, and one and two, and now on the heels, and toes up, little walking on the heels, very good, very good, and on the toes walking, very good, very good. Now, just look at me. Yes. And now, very comfortably, where you are, take your seat on the… No, no,… there. On the chair. But the chair of the air? No, no, that was a toilet. Yes, what if that’s… So you can, on the, like, the height of the chair, yes, and you can talk, like, look to me and say, "Mr. Swamiji, what are you telling me?" Very good. Don’t lean too much, and look, I will tell you one story. Yes, that is. And so, one day, I also did like that. That was a story that came up. And again, stretch, and take some steps on your toes. Good, very good, Hario. So now, please sit in your comfortable posture. You can sit in a chair. So place your hands on your knees and on your thighs, with thumb and index finger together. More, when they are doing yoga, pupils sometimes have the index finger near the thumb, like this. So these are the mudrās according to Kuṇḍalinī and so on. And these three fingers are called the three guṇas, and these three guṇas are separate. And if not like this, it doesn’t matter. If you do not feel comfortable, then you can touch your palms to your shoulders, which are on your knees. Elbows are very relaxed. Close your eyes, make yourself comfortable. Relax, relax, relax. We will inhale all together, deep inhale. Rub your palms. Place the palms on your face. Lightly, slightly massage your eyelids, and open your eyes. Hands down. Place your hands on the floor. And bend forward as far as you can. And feel the blood circulation, brain, eyebrows, eyes, and your tongue, your jaw relaxed. And while inhaling, slowly come up. Adiós.
