The power of the mantras

The discourse centers on non-violence as the highest spiritual duty and the power of a divine mantra to alleviate suffering.

The vibration of sacred hymns from great saints like Ādiguru Śaṅkarācārya resonates through modern technology. Closing the eyes and meditating, one feels the presence of these saints within. Human beings possess immense greatness, but negative thoughts and harmful actions lead to regression. The pain of all creatures, not just humans, must be recognized. Slaughtering animals inflicts suffering equivalent to having one’s own limbs cut off. Therefore, the ancient seers proclaimed non-violence as the supreme duty. This teaching is confirmed in the Mahābhārata when Bhīṣma, lying on a bed of arrows, instructed the Pāṇḍavas. He declared that never committing violence is the highest principle. Violence includes killing, torturing, and causing harm. Moreover, the eater who requests an animal’s killing bears the greater sin. Non-violence is positive; violence is negative; one should see oneself in the place of every creature. Many act unknowingly, trapped in habit, but countless others abstain from killing. For those in pain or illness, a specific mantra brings health. The mantra given by Gurudev is Om Prabhudip Niranjan Sabaduka Bhan. Practicing this mantra daily in the home removes all problems. The seed of devotion yields fruit across generations, sustaining spiritual growth.

Ahiṃsā paramo dharma.”

“Oṁ Prabhudīp Nirañjan Sabadukā Bhan.”

Kārachārījī Maṅgvaṇā Kī Jaya All the best, much love, great respect, and many great blessings to all who have just been chanting beautiful bhajans, including those of Ādiguru Śaṅkarācārya. This whole vibration comes from those great saints. Even after so much time, their soul, their vibration, their words, their feelings, and what they are still giving us—all of that is present. Now, through modern technology, we once again receive that sound from those great saints. From saint to saint, those great scholars could receive their thoughts and their meanings. But with this technology, all sense of distance dissolves; it seems as if Ādiguru Śaṅkarācārya Jī is sitting with us. And Śaṅkarācārya Jī is among the millions of sādhus—they are all Śaṅkarācāryas. The sādhus of Śaṅkarācārya’s path are all reflections of that same presence. This means the voice of Śaṅkarācārya reverberates through all sādhus, mahātmās, and others—even if they are not sanyāsīs, it does not matter. It reaches the temples and everywhere. That is called resonance—throughout the cosmos and upon this earth. If we can, we should close the eyes, sit in meditation, and then remember these ślokas, mantras, and bhajans. They are within ourselves; it feels as if Śaṅkarācārya or any other great saint is present within us. Why do we always think negative thoughts? Why do we set out to do something harmful? We have enough. Immense and immeasurable greatness of sense has been given to us, and we can use it. So use it or lose it. If you can use this, you will gain everything; if you lose it, we will regress, like animals. It will go somewhere else, because that is its nature. Understand the pain—the physical pain of any creature, not only humans. Those who slaughter animals, fish, birds, and other beings are committing sin. Whether you believe it or not, imagine someone comes and cuts off your hand, your thumb, or your leg. How would you feel? In the same way, all creatures feel. Therefore, those great ṛṣis declared: "Ahiṃsā paramo dharma," "Ahiṃsā paramo dharma." This is also in the Mahābhārata. When the great war was over, Bhīṣma lay on a bed of arrows. The Pāṇḍavas came and said, "Pitā Śrī, we have done everything we could, but please give us further instruction." At that time, Bhīṣma told the Pāṇḍavas: "Aham, aham"—what is within me. I committed many mistakes, but now I know, and that is: Ahiṃsā paramo dharma. Never do any hiṃsā. What is hiṃsā? Killing, torturing, taking what is harmful—all of this. So it is said: Paramo dharma, Ahiṃsā—no killing of anyone. Not only that: if you eat them, you must know that those who slaughter the animals or cause slaughter for someone who wants to eat—ultimately, the greater sin falls on the one who eats, who says, "Please kill this animal for me." Therefore, paramo dharma. Ahiṃsā paramo dharma. Ahiṃsā—we should cultivate ahiṃsā, not hiṃsā. Hiṃsā is negative; ahiṃsā is positive. Feel this in your body. Look: see yourself in that animal’s place, and you take this animal and kill this little goat or any other creature. They are very much like us, so we must feel. If many people do it without understanding, without even being aware, they are trapped in it. That is their problem. But among us—and there are millions upon millions, billions of people—many, many are not killing any animals. Ahiṃsā paramo dharma—this was taught for this reason. Similarly, for those who, without knowing, are engaged in such acts, I pray to God: please give them blessings so that they may give up such things. And therefore, for anyone who is in pain, for anyone who is very ill, we practice four mantras, and through these mantras they will receive health; health will come. Śrī Dīp Nārāyaṇ Bhagavān Kī Jai. Then Gurudev gave us the mantra. When we said we are at your holy feet, please Gurudev, give us something, Gurujī gave this mantra: Oṁ Prabhudīp Nirañjan Sabadukā Bhan Oṁ Prabhudīp Nirañjan Sabadukā Oṁ Prabhudīpaniran Sabadukāban Jana Oṁ Prabhudīpani Jana Sabadukāban Oṁ Prabhudīpaniran Sabadukāban Jana Oṁ Prabhudīpan Jan Sabadukāban Oṁ Prabhudīpaniranjan Sabad Dīp Nārāyaṇ Bhagvānakī In that house, jiske ghar mein, this mantra will be practiced every day, all problems will go. We know that those who are born one day will die, of course, but they are coming. Such bhakti is coming again through the many generations of Bhagavān Dīp Nārāyaṇ Mahāprabhujī’s disciples, the Gurujī’s disciples, and their disciples. The fruit we have—the seed we planted once—yields fruit next year, and the year after, and for all the years to come. That fruit keeps growing, but only for those who have put the seeds into the ground. If you only plant once and then have no more seed, you are called Nipuchak. Whoever has a child or does not have a child, he has given birth to him. He will eat the same food, the same vegetables, the same grains. Then your children will be good. Now, what kind of vegetables are these? They look good, very nice and green, but there is nothing in them. Only poison and water from the canalization. So we must heed our abhujan. Sometimes what comes is saṅgrī, sometimes guṇḍā, sometimes that, and after that another comes, sometimes kakrī. Pachurang, our pachurang is of three types.
