Guru Bhakti and Guru Mahima

The glory of the Guru and Satsaṅg is paramount. The Guru is identical to God. Divine incarnations manifest to protect righteousness and re-establish Dharma. The Guru removes the disciple's ignorance and bestows divine light. Satsaṅg is the company of truth. It acts as a hospital where saints cure mental impurities like lust and anger. It is a supreme university where saints impart divine knowledge. It serves as a high court where the Guru adjudicates and removes sin, guiding the soul. Satsaṅg brings peace and success. In this age, the Name and the Guru's guidance are the essential supports. The Guru's power transforms the disciple, unlike a philosopher's stone which merely changes metal.

"Guru and God both stand before me. Whose feet should I touch? I am indebted to my Guru, for he is the one who showed me God."

"In Kaliyuga, the only support is the Name. By remembering it, one crosses the ocean of worldly existence."

Salutations to the true Sanātana Dharma of Viśvaguru Mahāmaṇḍaleśvara Parampitā Parameśvara Parampūjya Ṣaḍ Gurudeva. I bow to our Paramparā, the Ṛṣis and Munis. I bow to the holy lotus feet of our beloved Gurudeva, Viśvagurujī. Today we are meeting here in Jāradā Āśrama. Viśvagurujī has gone to Vāḍīkhāṭu, to the samādhi place of Bhagavān Śrī Dīp Nārāyaṇa Mahāprabhujī. He is there today, praying to Mahāprabhujī to bless us, to give happiness, lifelong joy, and life to the world. He gave me the duty today to speak on the webcast. I was praying to our Gurudeva, Holy Gurujī: "What should I speak?" Because I am a child of the Gurudeva. I did not learn scriptures or other chapters. I learned Guru Bhakti and Satsaṅg under the vision of our Holy Gurujī and Viśva Gurujī. So I was requesting Gurudeva: "Give me some hint. What should I speak?" In my feeling, Holy Gurujī was indicating that I should speak about what Satsaṅg means, and about the glory of the Gurudeva and the glory of Satsaṅg. I was listening to our Viśva Gurujī and Holy Gurujī's lectures. He was also describing the glory of the Guru. In the Bhagavad Gītā, page 65, Chapter 4, Adhyāya 4, Ślokas 7 and 8, Kṛṣṇa was teaching Arjuna. That śloka is between the Guru and the disciple. Kṛṣṇa is the Guru, and Arjuna is the disciple. God incarnates in the world, pretending like a human life, but He is God. He shows to others and to us, the disciples, that He appears human, but within, He is God Himself. So, Guru Kṛṣṇa says to disciple Arjuna: "Yadā yadā hi dharmasya glānir bhavati bhārata, abhyutthānam adharmasya tadātmānaṁ sṛjāmyaham." Whenever there is a decline of Dharma and a rise of Adharma, at that time I manifest myself. "Paritrāṇāya sādhūnāṁ vināśāya ca duṣkṛtām, dharma-saṁsthāpanārthāya sambhavāmi yuge yuge." To protect the righteous, to annihil the wicked, and to re-establish Dharma, I am born from age to age. In Śloka number eight, Kṛṣṇa says: "Hey Arjuna, I protect my disciple, the saint who worships me day and night. I protect them. And those who are harming animals, humans, and nature, I destroy them similarly." In the Rāmāyaṇa Bālakāṇḍa, Tulasīdāsa Jī also describes a śloka about God and Guru. God Himself is the Guru. Tulasīdāsa Jī says in this śloka: "Bandau guru pada padma para ga, kari kṛpā sindhu sara la hari nararūpa liye." I bow to the lotus feet of the Guru, who is an ocean of mercy and who has taken the human form of Hari (Viṣṇu). We, our devotees all around the world, and myself also, feel that Mahāprabhujī is incarnating like Viṣṇu Bhagavān. We feel Holy Gurujī is also the field; Holy Mahāprabhujī is Viṣṇu. So, in the Rāmāyaṇa, similarly, the same thing is described: Nararūpa Hari—God comes Himself into the world in the form of the Guru. The same other śloka, this Chopāī, Tulasīdāsa Jī also says: "Guru gobinda dono khare, kake lāguṁ pāya? balihārī guru āpana, gobinda diyo batāya." Guru and God both stand before me. Whose feet should I touch? I am indebted to my Guru, for he is the one who showed me God. The Guru, you know, removes all darkness and gives light to us. Guru Pada—Pada means his lotus, his holy lotus feet. His feet are divine like a lotus. The nail of the Gurudeva's toe is like a gem, giving light. Who are the fortunate ones who get this opportunity to worship Gurudeva and do the pūjā of Gurudeva's holy lotus feet? Like on Guru Pūrṇimā, especially around the whole world, there is one festival called Guru Pūrṇimā, the Guru day. Do you know how powerful this day is? One day we worship Gurudeva, doing pūjā to the Guru. On this divine day, one day we do pūjā, and in the whole year, 365 days, according to the day, we feel energy and we feel the purity. Gurudeva removes all our sins. So, one day we were worshipping on Guru Pūrṇimā day, Gurudeva's holy lotus feet and his nail. We do, especially with this finger, we do pūjā of the Gurudeva's nail, the right toe. That Guru is Himself God. In the same way, it is said that Gurudeva removes all darkness and ignorance from the disciple, gives them divine life, purifies them, and gives the blessing. This describes the glory of the Guru Mātā and Gurudeva. So, in India, the holy scriptures, the Lord Himself says in the Bhagavad Gītā: the Guru is God and God is the Guru. Guru and God, there is no difference. And the Rāmāyaṇa, the holy book, also describes that the Guru and God are not different. So, many people say God is different and the Guru is different. They have something in their mind, the ignorance. They should move away from that. Now, I want to speak about Satsaṅg. The Rāmāyaṇa also describes Satsaṅg. Today, how do they greet this day? In the beginning, our Gurudeva's disciples were singing bhajan. Gurujī also said to me to speak about Satsaṅg and bhajan. He came there. We didn't connect with each other that you will speak the same thing and I will speak. So it's the blessing of the Gurudeva. He has given the inner indicator to us to talk about this. So now, this Kaliyuga: "Kaliyuga kevala nāma ādhāra, sumire sumire nara utara bhava pāra." In Kaliyuga, the only support is the Name. By remembering it, one crosses the ocean of worldly existence. In Kaliyuga, only they who do Satsaṅg and worship the Guru will come through this world. So in the Rāmāyaṇa, Tulasīdāsa is saying: without Satsaṅg, the human cannot get knowledge about spirituality. Without the blessing of the Gurudeva, they cannot succeed anyway. Any work you want to succeed in—your professional work—you need a Guru. You need the direction, you need the guidance. The Gurudeva, the Guru, are of two kinds: one is the divine Guru, and one is normal, showing you any normal work, like drawing, doing a form of work—that is also a guru. But the divine Guru, like our Paramparā—Alak Purījī from Satyuga until Kaliyuga—is like the Gaṅgā. The Gaṅgā comes from the Himālaya and goes to Gaṅgā Sāgara. In the same way, our Paramparā—Devpurījī, Mahāpuruṣjī, and Holy Gurujī, and presently our Viśva Gurujī—give us guidance and Satsaṅg. If foolish ones sit in Satsaṅg, they will get knowledge. It is like iron and paras (the philosopher's stone). When you put them together, the iron becomes gold. But there is also a difference between this paras and the Guru. Paras only makes the iron convert to gold, but the Guru converts the disciple into a Guru. Paras cannot make the iron into paras, but the Guru can make his disciple like Him. So, the Guru's glory is endless; there is no end. You Ṛṣis and Munis have written many, many scriptures, but there is no end. I remember our Holy Gurujī. He was one time in Europe, in Slovakia, the Czech Republic, and Hungary also. There, one person came to Holy Gurujī and asked a question. I think he was some retired minister. He came to Gurujī and asked: "Gurujī, what is the meaning of Satsaṅg?" Gurujī smiled and after, he said: "Sit down, I will explain to you what Satsaṅg means." Gurujī was explaining to him about Satsaṅg. Sat means truth. Saṅg means company, a companion who is with you, the truth—who is following truth. That person has the company of truth. Truth is always truth; you cannot change truth. He explained in a little bit of a story way. He said Satsaṅg is like a hospital, and saints are the doctors. They are removing all illness: kāma (lust), krodha (anger), mada (pride), lobha (greed), moha (delusion), īrṣā (jealousy), dveṣa (hatred). All kinds of illness, complex, ego, jealousy, hate, doubt—all are there. They are all deep, and they are in many, many layers. They give us pain day and night. So, Gurudeva is removing all kinds of disease. The Gurudeva is the doctor for mental problems. Holy Guru, Viśva Gurujī, often says the biggest pollution in the world is mental pollution. That kind of mental pollution, the saint is the doctor. The saint doctor can remove this. Allopathic, homeopathic, and Ayurvedic doctors cannot remove it. Why? This doctor—the holy saint—has knowledge; they have studied, so they can remove this illness. Second, this Satsaṅg is the supreme university. In the university, the saints are the principal. So they send teachings to those who come in Satsaṅg: the supreme knowledge, the highest knowledge, the divine knowledge—parā and aparā. Aparā is normal; they study worldly things, how to run things, how to earn money, business things, etc. But saints give supreme knowledge, divine knowledge, viveka—how to separate satya (truth) and asatya (untruth). That's Satsaṅg: the saint giving the lesson about supreme knowledge. Third, Satsaṅg is the supreme high court, and saints are the judges, giving judgment. When the soul departs from this worldly world and goes to Brahmaloka or goes to Yamarāja, at that time, Gurudeva removes all the sin. He is the judge; He gives judgment. How much sin did we do in life? If we worship Gurudeva, if we go to Gurudeva, then Gurudeva will protect us and remove all our sins, giving direction towards Brahmaloka. There are two judges: one judge in Mūrti Loka (the physical world) gives judgment—the person who did the sin is given prison life. And Gurudeva gives judgment. If we go to Satsaṅg, then He will give us direction toward Brahmaloka. If we do not go to Satsaṅg, then the worldly judge will give us direction toward jail, prison life. Fourth, Satsaṅg sends the divine engineer to build the divine bungalow. And that bungalow is lit day and night, sparkling the whole bungalow, but without moon and sun and stars. So, Satsaṅg sends the engineer to build such a bungalow. In Brahmaloka, nectar is raining there. At the end of this, Gurujī told this minister: "Mister, do you understand?" He said: "Thank you, Gurudeva. I understand now." Gurujī said: "The result of Satsaṅg is peace and bliss. You get peace in Satsaṅg and the blessing of the Gurudeva. Life becomes a success with the blessing of the Gurudeva." This is Holy Gurujī's word. I was listening in His Satsaṅg, and also Gurujī wrote in the Ānanda Prakāś book such divine, peaceful words. Similarly, Gurujī was telling one story. This story I was listening from Holy Gurujī. Once upon a time, there was one science principal. This principal was often going for a walk, a morning walk, where there was a little bit of forest area with big, big trees, like Jayanasaram, like heaven. In the morning, you walk here; it is such a peaceful place and very pure, without pollution of air. So this principal went for a walk every morning. One time, he saw one saint, a Sādhu, sitting under a neem tree and doing meditation. The principal saw him one day and ignored him; he was okay—someone was sitting there. On the third day, he noticed this Sādhu, the saint. He thought: "I should give some knowledge to him. He is just sitting under a neem tree and wasting his time and wasting his life. God gave me such knowledge. I am a science student, and I should teach him that he should work, he should study, he should do something. What do we do? The farmer works to take care of animals. So he's just sitting here underneath a tree, doing nothing." So he thought, and he went near the saint, and he said: "Mahārājī, Praṇām, Namaskār, good morning, sir. Can I ask you something?" The saint says: "Yes, mister, you can ask me." He is saying: "Why are you sitting here day and night, doing nothing, wasting time? You should do something—take care of animals, work in a farmhouse for plantation, do something. You are sitting just here, wasting your time and wasting your life." He's saying: "No, I am not just sitting; I'm doing something." The principal says: "What are you doing?" He's saying: "I'm praying to my Guru, my God." He said: "What means God? Who is God? Where is the living God? What is God doing? Who is in God? What do you form the... God?" He asked ten questions. "Sensei, is your lecture over? If your lecture is over, then I can say something?" "Yes, yes, short and sweet. We're not talking much. If you have knowledge, you understand my words." "Sensei, I am praying to the One who made all this world—all planets, who made all the universe. Some call this God. The One where the mountain is, where the ocean is, where the tree is, where the water is—all planets taking care—that One is God. He is the deep foundation of God, so He is planning. He, God, is the generator, operator, and destroyer. That is God." He said: "No, I do not believe in any God. If you have your God knowledge, then how can He make such a small fruit on a big tree? The neem tree—the tree is very big, a true tree, 200 feet up and 150 feet down, so big. And it makes small, small fruit on the tree. Your God now has knowledge? And the smallest, small, small plant, like the plant of watermelon, the plant of the pumpkin, sugar melon—the small plant and big, big fruit. And a big tree has a small fruit. If your God had knowledge, He should make a big tree with big fruit, and a small plant with a small fruit. Sense?" "Okay." The saint was looking toward the tree with his divine power. He plucked one neem fruit, and this fruit fell on the head of the principal. The principal moved his hand on his head and said: "What happened? Nothing. Did the neem tree fruit fall on my head?" He said: "This is only a small fruit that fell on your head. If a pumpkin will fall on your head, what will happen? Your pumpkin?" This principal was surprised. He says: "Gurudev, you are right. Your God makes the proper way of things because, under a big tree, sitting humans, animals, birds—if a big pumpkin fell on them, it will harm them, and it doesn't matter. But if a big pumpkin fell on my head today, my all 55 years of science would be finished today." So he was saying: "Thank you. Your God is the supreme God. I today realized that God has knowledge. He did good things. Whatever He makes, everything is properly done." So he became the disciple of this saint. The saint was giving him blessings and sending him some mantra. This saint was sending to give him some lessons, like the Śiva Pañcākṣara Stotram. Śrī āyā dakṣadhāra nāśakāya śrī nīlakaṇṭha āyā bhṛṣadhvajāya tasmai śikharāya namaḥ śivāya. Vaśiṣṭha kumbhodbhava gotramārya munīndra devāya śeṭaśekharāya candraka keśa vāṇalocanāya tasmai yakṣakarāya namaḥ śivāya. Yakṣasvarūpāya jaṭādharāya pinākahastāya sanātanāya. Divyāya devāya digambarāya, Tasmai yakṣakarāya namo śivāya. The saint was giving the blessing to the principal. The principal was very happy. He took blessings from the saint and became a disciple of Viṣṇu. So I like to sing one bhajan. Mahāprabhujī's bhajan was written by our Holy Gurujī about Satsaṅg. So, I am requesting our guru brothers and sisters sitting here in Bhakti Sāgara; they sang before the bhajan, and we will sing with them. So, can you please support me? So, Bhavo Satsaṅg Hari—the glory of the Satsaṅg, Mahāprabhujī, Holy Gurujī. Immense, immense is the glory of Satsaṅg. He was writing in books, in bhajans, and many, many... Dīp Nārāyaṇa Bhagavān kī śobhā, satsaṅga se jānī. Badabhāgīre janama satsaṅga se jānī. Jaise latā bhr̥ṅgī mile, vah śabda gujare sunāī... Glory of the Satsaṅg. Mahāprabhujī was mentioning, and Holy Gurujī wrote this bhajan, "Glory of the Satsaṅg," Śobhāvo Sattva Saṅghārī. Thank you to Viśva Gurujī for giving me the opportunity to speak on the webcast. We are missing here, Jadon Ashram, Gurudeva. Tomorrow, He is coming back to Jadon, and He will guide us toward the divine light through the webcast Svāmījī TV. Oṁ Śāntiḥ Śāntiḥ Śāntiḥ. Hari Om.
