Awake happiness inside

A satsang address reflecting on the pandemic, spiritual purity, and inner states.

"Both Svarga and Naraka, heaven and hell, both are on the earth. And it is already affecting us, how we are living. It is not from outside, but it is inside us."

"Holy Gurujī said, 'If you have everything beautiful, you have everything, but just for a little, you are angry.' You are bringing good things into your house, and you are angry. So all your good things are again stolen, gone."

The lecturer welcomes attendees to a program, observing how global events like the pandemic prompt introspection. He suggests such challenges are a purification related to human consciousness and lifestyle, contrasting human concepts of heaven and hell with the instinctual lives of animals. He discusses the importance of vegetarianism, yoga practice, and controlling the mind, concluding with a parable about the tongue and the teeth to illustrate the power of speech.

Om Namaḥ Śrī Prabhu Dīpanārāyaṇam... Haṁsabhādāsa Prabhu Śaraṇa Parāyaṇam... Om Namaḥ Śrī Prabhu Dīpanārāyaṇam... Śrīdīp Nārāyaṇa Bhagavān Kī Jai. Welcome, all dear brothers and sisters, to this beautiful program and this beautiful place. We welcome all our very beautiful brothers and sisters with us. We thank our dear organizers, like our brother Vasant, for the beautiful welcome and for organizing everything so nicely. What you have to do now is enjoy. This enjoyment is within ourselves. We must awaken in our hearts that enjoyment which comes from inside, that awakening of beautiful feelings. All our devotees who came today, and those who have been coming over the last four weeks—we have had many friends here. When we are in this open air with enough space, more than 150 people can come. The weather has been very good; only two or three times did we have to go to the hall. So you can imagine how many have been here, how many are still here, and how many will still come. We need a very big place, and we have it. We thank all our organizers and those working in our kitchen, ready to help with whatever you need. What more could we want? We came here to be one with all. As our Gurudev, Holy Gurujī, said: one in all and all in one. We come from different parts of different countries, but we are here all together as one. We have friendliness, happiness, and we are practicing to be one. We just have to practice and enjoy. This year, there have been some different discrepancies in this world. We all have feelings about this, about the corona and other infections that are coming. It is very interesting: why only to the humans? All our trees, birds, animals, forests—everything has no effect from that. Why not on any animals on farms or anywhere? There must be a reason. God is for all, but even God has to think it over. So, why are we affected? But you all definitely know why humans are affected. I have been, and still am, researching this around the whole world as far as I could find. Those who were yoga practitioners, and even those who were not but were eating only vegetarian, organic, what we call vegan food—they were all good. Now, there is one question that is not clear. Because one person might eat at a vegan restaurant one day and then eat elsewhere the next, so we cannot see or count. But those who are vegetarian or eat organic are good. This is the case in the whole world. Maybe someone was affected a little because they were too close to others, but otherwise, it is a purification—a purity in the human, in what they are thinking, so they do not destroy or kill other animals. We can say that we are sometimes doing things, for example, when driving a car and bugs come and are killed. But for them, perhaps it was a good mokṣa within not a second; it was just a blink, and they are gone. They were in ānanda and immediately were in another ānanda. Still, we do not want these animals, these many big animals, to die, and not purposely. So you are here, and many of you, I think, are all vegetarians, and they were not affected. Many people now, those who are not yogīs or practitioners or Hindus, have opened their eyes. Really, they gave up eating meat and alcohol. Many don't understand. So this is, I think, what in this Kali Yuga is coming to an end. It is said there are two paths. One path is going down—it doesn't matter if humans, animals, birds, or anything. And others, who are positive in many, many things, they go towards Brahman. It is not about Naraka and Svarga, no. Naraka is there; Svarga is different. But at this time, when we are in human life, we know, and many saints talk about it. When they give lectures, they say the same thing: that Svarga and Naraka, heaven and hell, both are on the earth. And it is already affecting us, how we are living. It is not from outside, but it is inside us, in these five elements. These are the five tattvas: earth, fire, water, air, space. Both Svarga and Naraka are within ourselves. We are trying very hard, but sometimes suddenly we do something, and that makes a spot. It is said that even if you have ten liters of milk and one drop of lemon, it will spoil the milk. So, like this, our purity is like milk. Our family, our parents, our behavior—everything is pure. But sometimes it can happen, sometimes a negative thought arises, and your beauty is for a moment destroyed, damaged. Svarga and Naraka, heaven and hell, are within us. This is what humans should know. So it is called negative or positive. This is given to humans. Animals know; they don't know these two things, but they have only one thing, two things: eat which kind of food, and create children. So what are they doing? Animals. But I said there are two things only: eating and giving children. And they have no effect like Naraka and Svarga because they don't know anything. But they have two things also: like we are happy, we enjoy, and we are afraid because someone will kill us. So fear animals have also very much. That fear is in that way—not "Oh God" or "No God"—it is when other creatures will kill them, so there is fear. Or when everything in the forest is beautiful, then they are very happy. So there is fear and joy. Every jīva has that; that's why it is a jīva. You know, that kind of jīva, the big tiger, and suddenly one very little bird comes and sits on the head of the tiger. The tiger is not looking very much, and these birds are not afraid, and the tiger also doesn't care. But that same bird will not come and sit on the head of a human, except your own pets that you have been feeding. But still, they are afraid. So, animals in that way don't have that fear. Recently, someone sent a picture on Facebook. There is one cow and one tiger, and you know a tiger will kill the cow. But there came one tiger, and he is sitting with the cow, and the cow is also very relaxed. That tiger is sitting like in its mother's lap—that's what the photo said. Many times we see on Facebook something like that: tigers or lions with little animals from some other big animals. It is just born, and that female or male tiger catches that little baby of the cows or deer, and she doesn't kill it. That tiger mother, even if she is hungry, doesn't want to kill it. So they also respect other animals, the little babies. So there is in them also, what is to say, love. So why not the humans? This is when humans are going to attack; then they know where is the humbleness, and peace, harmony, love, and that very, very feeling that is in my heart. And when people start fighting with each other, all harmony, all peace, all love completely disappears, and what should be in the heart vanishes. And so now in this year, what has come to us was not in one or two countries but around the whole world, even in little villages. And it was for the humans. We try all, and we are helping all, coming and going. So we don't know what, though we are not attached to this corona, but we have a fear. Of course, our governments, our people, they are working hard: "Please stay in your house, clean these, do that," many things. Many factories closed, big shops closed, and all schools closed. We lost our jobs, and we are in our room, sitting in our house. There we got depression. Many people—husband and wife and children—they are happy because for one, two, three months we are with families. But secondly, what to eat? Many people had the problem: they have everything in the house, but they don't know how to cook. So they tried to do this and that, looking in a book or something, trying to cook. People were throwing food away. And now, everyone knows exactly how much they cook and what they need. Also for their house pets, always inside. Some, but more people got depressed. Students were depressed. Now is the time I will come to the next class, but still we don't know. I still don't know how, I don't know what will be. So every country in the world did what they could; they tried what they could. But you know, the Indians made a very good system. The Prime Minister of India told them to watch old, very nice videos or films. Like, you know, you have seen the Bhagavad Gītā, there's Mahābhārata, and also the Rāmāyaṇa and Hanumān—so many, many very nice ones. So people were sitting in the house with children, watching very nice films, also many bhajans, sādhus. It was so good, very, very nice. So many people did not read or see the whole Mahābhārata, but now they watched from beginning to end over a week. They learned what was our culture in India, Hindu culture, etc. What was that culture of India? What was our culture? And about God Rāma? And the Rāmāyaṇa? Many, many things. So many people again came to learn about Rāma and Kṛṣṇa and others, all other religions. Jesus, it will come about. Jesus, there was, but in Jesus there was not so much there, so spiritual, but there are sometimes. But in India, it was, my God, so many stories. Still, people are depressed. So many people were working, taking a lot of money, eating in restaurants, dancing, going on holidays—all money is gone like this. They had something, but they said, "We have a good salary." And now, salary is finished. Money is gone in the hotels. Now, what to do? They're depressed. And now you know how many people lost their jobs, and still we don't know if we will get our salary, how much, or where we will be. The situation has come like this now. I see that the whole group that came to our ashram here in Strelky were so happy when I came, but all are depressed. And then I don't know if you are depressed or not. Everyone said, "Don't talk." And I don't even know if they were depressed or not. They were all like this; they didn't talk. They had their mouths sealed. What happened, you know? So they said, also Swamiji, don't talk. So I said, okay. Also depressed? No. So now I will not take away from you as long as corona is reflecting. And I will not tell you to take it off as long as this corona is still around. But we will awake the happiness, the joy. And when we are far distanced, three, four, or five meters, you can open it. But again, sometimes every government, I think in Europe, says that everyone must have it, doesn't matter if shopping, in the street, or in a car—everywhere you must have your mask. But inside we are happy. And so, in our seminar, we will have beautiful programs, and we will learn a lot. You have given love to others; when you go, you will give them happiness. We know that it is happening, and we cannot stop this. It is in God's hands. So we know we will be happy, and we will be good. Learn eating, learn cooking, and learn how to bring the vegetables and food, and how we should keep many, many things. We have to do. We know, I'm sure, we are all good, so we will not die without food. It will be; don't worry, now it's coming. God will again tell the children, "Look, now you should know what you are doing." So in this way, we will have our yoga practice. And our yoga, Yoga in Daily Life, is for every day. What means Yoga in Daily Life? Yoga in Daily Life is every day practice so we will be healthy. Some look strong, very nice, many kilos, but that is not good, that is not healthy. We should create our energy within ourselves through āsanas, prāṇāyāmas, but we have to go further, very deep. And that is our techniques, what we are doing. We are eating, and you know we have here many people who know how to cook very well, always vegetarian. And we have here one, it's called tilak. Tilak means here giving, a very good point here. There, here it is our kismat. You know what is kismat? Who doesn't know, please? Kismat, my God. And where is the kismat? In the heart? No, stomach is already gone. Kismat is here, and we have to awake our kismat here. They already said, if anyone will take away from us, everything is lost. But they cannot take out from our kismat. They will take everything out of our hands, but still our hands are there. They will get it, and so kismat. And this, we have the kismat all together: our people, our friends, our relatives, kismat. So it is said, if everything is lost, but you are good in your kismat, you will get again. And if you have inside negative thoughts, meaning anger and many, many things... Holy Gurujī said, "If you have everything beautiful, you have everything, but just for a little, you are angry." You are bringing good things into your house, and you are angry. So all your good things are again stolen, gone. This is what my Gurujī said. Anything happening, I remember what Gurujī said. And second, if you lost, but by your kismat you have everything, it will come again. And so our yoga techniques, Yoga in Daily Life, is not only that we are making competition or that we will make these big, handsome things, what you call bodybuilding. What do you bodybuild? Please tell me, someone, what is bodybuilding? No one. You can't see any personal body that your body built. It is a body that is built already by God. And what God has built, your body, no one can make like this. And what God has not done, you will not. One thing we do: our muscles, our heart, beard, and these things. But this also God has built, so the body is built. Thank you, you gave me a very good thought today. The whole week I will give body build, but then where's ātmā build? You have ātmā, many things, so this is very good. Like someone said, body and mind, and what about other things? The knowledge? So these are all tattvas together bringing. The brain is the best, temporarily. Within a second, the best mind will turn in the other direction. Yes, very good thinking, everything is best. Suddenly, for one cent, it can bring the knife. So what is the mind? Body is there, poor body... is body. What is the body? So, there are many things. So we will practice. We have to protect our body, and the body protects us. We have to control our mind, but we cannot control the mind. My mind has that kind of power. As long as good is the best, but everything can be destroyed. For example, let's say I have one pot, a water pot, or let's say a beautiful coffee cup. The cup is so beautiful, ceramic, so nicely written. It is said the one cup set is about 100,000. You made money, worked for everything, but something happened. You had a cup, and others have this cup, and they were happy. Suddenly, something happened. This is your coffee: 100,000 cups. In this second, broken. That is a mind. That is my mind. A mind like a monkey. Gurujī told a beautiful story about a monkey. That is called the monkey mind. It is said the monkey is very restless. And once what happened? Someone was drinking alcohol, and the monkey was observing. The man went out to the bathroom, and the monkey took the bottle and drank it all. Now he's become so... And then what happened? The monkey is very restless. Now he's full of alcohol, completely. And then, the third one, a scorpion, touches him. Three qualities. How can the poor mind do something there? So, my dear, calm down, come. Give it, give it, give it. That is beautiful. So before that is the body, then prāṇa. If there is no prāṇa, mind is finished. Then mind—without mind we are completely lost. But mind control, otherwise everything is again breaking. So even if it happens, sometimes we have to control. And when it's very strong, what we call the anger—an exploding bomb. You know, once they put a bomb in here, everything is destroyed. Therefore, after that, it's called dhyāna vijñāna. Vijñāna, everything is vijñāna, that's it. So vijñāna is that, that we... With closed eyes, we can eat directly in the mouth, but you said, "No, you're a friend, then take something and eat from this side, nothing." Therefore, for the body, energy, mind, knowledge, or science, and ānanda. After that, beyond, we are coming there. So it is said we are human, and when we have this kind of... Very, very important is nourishment. You see that many people, many people are vegetarian. In communist times, I was here. And every time they said, "But you can eat one little piece of meat also, why not? No eggs?" I said, "No." "Fish?" I said, "No, don't tell me." And then he said, "No, in this country we have no one vegetarian; they are all eaters." I said, "Don't tell me this. In your country, there are people. I can show you." He was not practicing yoga. And he was giving many, many people instructions to give vegetarian food. He brought thousands of people to vegetarianism. Of course, that time was a little hard. Then he met me, and he made his children, his wife, everything so pure. And they are so healthy, everything. But if one comes to the negative, people in between can change something. So here we have our little children also here. Here, Dishanti, and Poonam, Paras, her mother, her grandmother, grandmama, and grandfather are so good. He is pure, and he wants to know, and he knows that nourishment is something like life only. So that is what we have here. This time, I think we will make a little lecture from this. I didn't want to tell the name, but you told it. So we will ask him, and his wife, and his children. All are very, very pure, and they have no illness. That is, and God bless them, that they will be healthy. So, one, two, three generations I have with me. And many of you there, you are doing very good, so we will practice. And there is some time that is different. That we have to be careful. Somewhere, the whole everything is very good. But something is hidden in our body, or something. There was a story. It's too long, I'm talking. Oh God, so that is how this story was. It is a story about our tooth, our teeth, and tongue. The tongue and our teeth. This is our best thing. We are enjoying our eating with the tongue. And our teeth, they are eating very good, and they are all ready. But though they are together very nice, sometimes they also have problems. The tongue is so humble and very nice. After eating, she's tasting, and after that, she's cleaning all our teeth. And everything should be nice. Somewhere, food remains in the tooth, on the back side. Time goes everywhere, from down and taking out. Sometimes, like a little part from food. So one tooth was swollen, painful, very hurtful. But I said, "Tomorrow the doctor will come," but he... Was eating exactly in that tooth. There is something inside in the little hole, and from food inside. And the tongue goes to take it out and says, "Please don't touch me." Tongue again goes out. Again, tongue said, "Try to take it out." And she said, "Please let me." After five again, then the tooth said, "Tongue, don't disturb me now." Well, she said, but I'm cleaning. And she said, he said, "You are tasting, and you enjoy. You know, I am in so much pain. Only this one tooth." Again, going there. So the teeth say to the tongue, "I am telling you, please, please, please." But now, no more please. "I will bite you." She said, "No, it is nothing. You can't do anything." He said, "What? You are one tongue, and you are very falling here and there. You have no power. And we are 32, and that is our committee. It is our power. And how many do you have?" She said, "Do I have? Not." So again, the tooth said, "We will, within less than a second, we will taste the whole tongue." The tongue said, "Don't talk like this." He said, "We are the whole 32. We are the member companies." She said, "I will show you." So what is that? She said, "I have power. That I will tell you only one word, and from outside will come the fist. All will fall out. So be relaxed. My power is more than yours. My word, and my word is the power of my tongue. So please control. Remain in control. Stay, keep it under control. Thirty-two, they will come out. 32, all of them will come out." God bless you. So let's say we tomorrow again begin. Thank you, very nice to see you. Thank you, I'm glad I saw you. And tomorrow we'll start again. We'll start from tomorrow.
