The Bhajan of Selling Sleep and the Path of Truth

A spiritual discourse exploring a bhajan about awakening, the practice of Yoga Nidrā, and teachings on truth from sacred verses.

"If somebody wants to take my dream, I sell you my dream. How many lives I was sleeping!"

"Without truth, you will not have liberation. Without that love of the truth... Mokṣa, liberation."

The speaker discusses a traditional bhajan about selling one's sleep as a metaphor for spiritual awakening, contrasting ordinary sleep with the conscious state of Yoga Nidrā. The talk then transitions to explaining verses connected to the Sanskrit alphabet, emphasizing ethical principles like truthfulness, abandoning desire, and the importance of meditation and devotion to the Guru for a fruitful life.

There is a bhajan, and there is a poem, and there is a technique. One person said: "If anybody wants to have this dream or this sleep, if someone wants to get sleep, I would sell my sleep. I sleep, I sleep, I wake. I sell my sleep. Anyone wants to buy?" This is a very good bhajan from near Kailash Ashram, from a great bhakta, after Devapurījī's ashram. That bhajan is: "If someone wants to take my dream, I sell you my dream." How many lives I was sleeping! It is very, very beautiful. "I sell you my dream"—I don't give you my dream, I will sell it. So, some people who cannot sleep should ask her husband or your wife. When one cannot sleep because another is snoring, the one who is snoring can sell sleep to the person near them. I will see that it is written. These bhajans have been sung many times there, so I think I will ask. Umapurī has recorded it. So lucky are they who should not get too long a sleep. No sleep, but we are making in the dream. In sleep, we come into the awakening consciousness. There is another technique called Yoga Nidrā. Yes, this is a bhajan, a beautiful bhajan. The point is: we have to get out of the dream, out of sleep, and come into awakening. This is the technique we should learn: to stop sleeping, but to awaken our consciousness. That is a beautiful bhajan about Mahāprabhujī. We have so many techniques on that yogic path. This bhajan is in Mahāprabhujī's bhajan book. At that time I was not there. After Holi, Gurujī saw me in the book. It is very difficult for people to understand what it means in Yoga Nidrā. If you can learn this, then it is the best of the best. At that time, then there is no snoring. Otherwise, you know, in the afternoon you eat a very nice lunch and drink water, and now you want to relax. Very soon many are making, and slowly, slowly everyone goes into sleep. There are two kinds of Kriya Yoga Nidra. The first is for children, so the mother or father, or your sister or brother or babysitter—like how they make you sleep. That is a technique, and the child will sleep in such a way that you can very soon have the child go to deep sleep. The second is that in Yoga Nidrā, but the real Yoga Nidrā is from Mahāprabhujī's Yoga Nidrā. This evening, probably, we will sing about this and translate something. After a meal, and then Yoga Nidrā—this is not right. When you are very hungry, and then you go to Yoga Nidra, then it is a good one, nābhi in the navel. Otherwise, after eating and drinking water or milk or anything, then we are just getting sleepy. That's not Yoga Nidrā. Maybe we should send you first to techniques, practice Yoga Nidrā, and then go for lunch. After lunch, it is a meal—what should we do? So there are two techniques. One technique is, after eating, go for a walk. As long as you take the time to eat from beginning to end, after that time you should go for a walk. If you are eating in half an hour, go for a half-hour walk. If you eat, wait 50 minutes, then go for a 50-minute walk, or after that, get a little rest, because digestion is best when we give it time. And that we can only do when we lie down and we are snoring. That time, as long as you were eating—so there are many techniques. This means it gives harmony and peace and the great inner good techniques. Techniques mean that I will now make everything perfect. After drinking the water, that is how we can make it better, and that is good for health. After a good meal, either walk or relax, and that gives good support to the digestion. That is also Yoga Nidrā. But that Yoga Nidrā is from Mahāprabhujī. That is great. You have the book of Mahāprabhujī. Many times I told you about it, I think, and you already know it, because I have already told you about it many times. Yogī Janakī Yoga Nidrā—this is Mahāprabhujī's bhajan, isn't it? It's very nice. This is Mahāprabhujī's bhajan, and it's very nice. Good. So, the second is Śrī Kākabhaṭṭī Śrī. And now we have Kapālabhāti here. And Kapālabhāti is the alphabet. And batis, there are how many? This is what we call the letters. Batis znamenajú písmená. So let's come further. Tak pojďme pokračovať. We were yesterday, that's translated. Včera jsme to začali prekladať. From the beginning, from the very start, with my each and every in and out breath. I read, I sing, all with my breath. After that, Gurujī said: "Viṣṇu Maheśvara Deva, sabhī kare tumhārī sevā, terā nāma sarva sukha karī sumare, sukhī hoī naranārī. Tumhī sab devān ke devā, sadā dī jo caraṇon kī sevā." So this is a point. Then it comes now, the letters. And now I will recite some of the Pīsmas. Ghat Ghat... G. And now we continue. It is said: This is our life that we live in this saṃsāra, in this world. This world is the māyā, svapna kī māyā, what we call the māyā, illusion. A māyā, toh je ilūziya. Jagan svapna ki māyā, it is illusion. Je to len ilūziya. And so it will be out, and in the dream also. Je to tak, ako keď máte sen. So in this illusion, why are you inside? So why are you in these worldly things? There you are within that, you cannot go out. Prečo ste teda ponorení v tejto svetskej ilúzii, že sa nemůžete dostať von? "Yajña, yut, kṣodā, re, bhajī, sāc bin mukti, nehoī." Yajña, yajña, they are two, always, you know. Jadža, jút, chodó, re, bhají. So, jadža, jút. When you write the letter, it's jūt. So, yes. This alphabet: please give up the lying. Don't lie. Without truth, you will not have liberation. Without that love of the truth, and that truth can make... Mokṣa, liberation. In this is a tathā, it means hold your fruit, and that you are the truth. A teraz hovoríme o ďalších dvoch tathātā, to znamená: stojíte pevne za pravdou. So keep on holding your truth. Držte se pevně pravdy. Vždycky byste měli stát na straně pravdy a neskrývat svá slova. Vaše řeč by měla být přijatelná a plodná. Therefore, it is always, always remain in the bhakti, which means devotion. Bhakti towards all. If it is that light, the truth, then you will have a beautiful palace. God will give you that palace of happiness, joy, peace, etc. And then you are going away, you are going. Karma yoga, karma is the best. Without karma, nothing will happen. Thank you. When the truth is there, then be sure that God will give you that, the cosmic heaven, that the heaven of the, like a palace. "Dada, danka, satka dena, darna mat, nirbhesi rehena. Dada, danka..." Daṇḍa, daṇḍa, daṇḍa means that do all good. Go ahead. Give the words, give the talk of the truth. Don't be, how to say, afraid. Be the humble, and you will be the victory. A potom svítiazíš. "Dada, dundo brahma khajana." Therefore, Dada, brahma khajana, the treasure, the treasure of the Brahman, the treasure of the Brahman. So we shall search that kind of treasure of the Brahma in supreme, the highest. Poklad Brahmi, Mali bysme sa usilovať nájsť poklad Brahmi. "Dada, Dundu, Brahma, Khajana Hove Moksha Mahasukha Dapana." In that, you will get Moksha, the best Mahāsukha, the greatest blessings of liberation, further. "Tata tum tṛṣṇā kuthyagu." The letter T: tata tum tṛṣṇā kuthyagu. Tṛṣṇā, tata, you should give up the tṛṣṇā, and that tṛṣṇā means, "I want to have this, I want to have this, I will get this." So forget this. Give up. Give up. Go. And every day, all the times, on that day, when you will give up all this and give the bhajan, Rām, the name of God—what we call God, or Rām—nis din Rām bhajan me lago, then you will be God, and repeat the name of God, then you will be. Greatest happy. Potom se staneš tým najvznešenejším, šťastným. "Thatha. Thotha jñāna bekar. Thatha. Thotha jñāna bekar." Don't talk, don't give the words, don't give the lectures, which are empty. Nerozprávaj, neprednášaj. Nevráv druhým reči, ktoré sú prázdne. It is like an empty babul tree. Thatha, thotha, gyān, bekar. Whatever we will talk like this, where there is no any sense, is gone. Rehni, karni, bhavpar. Without this, you should be on the other path, a solid and truth. What you will say, then you will cross the ocean of problems. Therefore, it is said, Bhagavān Śrī Narendra Mahāprabhujī is the giver. He is the giver, the greatest, etc. On this name of this letter, when you will have this deep dayālū, then all our problems will disappear. "Dhadha dhyāna satguru kākīje, dhadha dhyāna." Dhyāna means, you know, the meditation. Dhyāna means not only close your eyes and meditate. Dhyāna means many, many things. Where you drive the car, you should concentrate, that's dhyāna. Cook something good. But take concentration that fire will not burn. Many, many things, if we make any problems, accidents, etc., then we are not right. Dhyāna. Dhyāna is very peaceful, very close, and very much on the best path. So, dhyāna, Satguru Kākīje, so that dhyāna, you should meditate on Gurudeva. Janam safal apna kardhiji. Through this, you will make your world, your life—what would I say? Fruitful. Okay, fruitful. Tímto ten život spravíte úspešným, plodným. Successfully. So, daddha dhyāna sadgurukā kije, janam safal apnā kardhijī. Therefore, you should make your life fruitful. That your life will be successful. "Nanna nardhe uttam jana, Nanna, Nanna... Nardhe uttam jana." The human body is the best for you. Therefore, you should know that human life is perfect. In this human body, we will realize God. V tomto ľudskom tele si uvedomíme Boha. "Pāpā, pāpakī koṭī kamāj. Pāpā? Papki koti kamaj. Per se. Čalše písmeno pa." Don't lie. Neklam. Do not take away from everything. Never take what does not belong to you. Janem, janem tu mahāduk pai. When you are taking away, then you will be whole life suffering. Papa, pāpakī, koṭi, kamāi janam janam mahādukpai. In every life, in every life, you will be suffering. V každom ďalšom živote budeš trpieť, ak budeš druhým iba brať. "Pāpā pāpakī khotī kamāī, janam janam tū mahā dukhpāī." This is the word. Toto sú tie slova: "Śrī Pūjā Dīpa Hṛdaya Laharī, Param Praśottam Khas. Shri Madhavānandajī kar jod kahe, 'Simru swās ho swās Om Namo Gurudev ghusai, Sudh Budh Gyān Dijo Prabhu Mohi Brahma Vishṇu Maheśvara Deva, Sabhī Kare Tumhārī Sevā Terā Nām Sarav Sukh Karī, Sumre Sukhī Hoī Narnārī Tumhī Sab Devān Ke Deva, Sadā Dī Jo Charaṇa Kī Sevā.' Jo Satguru kā Dhyān Lagāwe, Janm Maran Vo Nahī̃ Āwe. Kakka Bhat̤tīsī kā Pāt Jo Kare, Jo Bhav Sāgar Sahaj Tare. Kakka Karo Kamāyī Sāchī, Man Mein Mat Lāgo Re Kachī. ... Khakka Kharāb Ādat Ko Chhoṛo, Man Apnā Prabhu Se Jhoṛo. Gagā garab kabū nahīṁ karnā, ek din tumko nīcā hī marnā. Gagā ghaṭ ghaṭ keksai, guru binā bhed pavhe nahī bai. Chaccha chandan jiyun sitla rehna, karwa vachna kahun nahi karna. Chhacha, chhodo aas parai, Jo kush karm likha so pai. Jajja, jagat swapn ki maya, Is maya mein kyun bhar maya? Jajja, jhoot chhodo re bhai, Chhacha bina mukti nahi apai. Tattat ek pakad le poori, Koi mat chhodo baat adhoori. Tattat tat rak, Tattat tat rak ho bhakti ka, Jab pavo tum mahal mukti ka. Dadda daṅka māt, Dadda daṅka satt kā denā, Dar na māt nirbhai se rehnā. Dada dundo brahma khajana, hove mokṣa mahā sukha pāna. Tattā tum tṛṣṇā ko tyāgo, nis dina rāma bhajan me lāgo. Tattva thodā gyāna ke bekāra, rahnī karnī se bhāva parā. Daddha deep dayā loodatā, nām liye sab dukh ghaṭ katā jātā. Daddha dhyāna satguru kā kī je, janam safal apnā kar dīje. Nanna narade uttama jaan, isi desi prabhu pahisaan." Till number 24 further we will do, okay? Then we will type for everybody in English letters, and then you will all read this. Thank you.
