Without Gurudev there is no knowledge

A morning satsang discussing spiritual practice and the necessity of the guru's grace.

"Our Yoga in Daily Life is a very expert technique, which is very rare to get. It should be through Guru Kṛpā, through the guru's practice and guidance."

"Guru Vino gyānanā hoyī—without Gurudeva, no knowledge can be. Which kind of knowledge? Not this worldly knowledge of human work, but our quality, which is devotion to God."

Swami Ji addresses practitioners after a group meditation and Kriyā Anuṣṭhāna. He emphasizes the unique quality of their yoga system and the absolute necessity of receiving authentic techniques and blessings through a genuine guru lineage (paramparā). He shares a story about Mahāprabhujī's miraculous healing to illustrate a true guru's power, warns disciples not to prematurely teach advanced techniques, and answers a final question about the chakras.

This morning in our Saṅgam Hall, the meditation and Anuṣṭhāna Kriyā were very good. Our Anuṣṭhān Bhaktas liked it. You know, thousands of Yoga in Daily Life practitioners around the world learn and practice this Kriyā Anuṣṭhāna, which involves the chakras—meaning the kuṇḍalinī—and meditations. Our Yoga in Daily Life is a very expert technique, which is very rare to get. There is only one word for it: Yoga. Yoga is from the beginnings up to that cosmic being. Mostly, people have not received that knowledge about yoga. It should be through Guru Kṛpā, through the guru's practice and guidance. This Kriyā Śakti, our people have been practicing for nearly 40 years. In the Western countries, where we began this systematic program, we need quality, not quantity. When we go towards the qualities, then we will dissolve everything. Quantity and quality are different. That's why, around the whole world and in India, many schools and colleges are trying to manage together with Yoga in Daily Life. Our quality, our exercises, prāṇāyāmas—these are very important. The physical exercises are what we call the āsanas. They have spread around the whole world. The Yoga in Daily Life books were spread everywhere. In how many countries is this book? It has translations. Also in China, Japan, all of Europe, Russia—many people have this book, Yoga in Daily Life. There, we have what we call Sarvahitā Āsana. The Sarvahitā Āsana is a very high quality of yoga exercise. It is very good, from a one-year-old child up to 105 years old. That's called Sarvahitāsana; it keeps the best health of the body. Everywhere in the world, people come to this practice. But some people give the name differently and mix something inside. They change the quality of the exercise, like mixing petrol, diesel, and kerosene. These three qualities can destroy your machine completely. Even within our group here, some are mixing something, and therefore they are not successful. Successful for what? For ourselves. We are not talking about others. Our Yoga in Daily Life practitioners and teachers—there are thousands—have the best quality of practicing. All physical exercises are good; others may have good ones, maybe better than ours. But what about the second step of the human body? That is only for those who are in the paramparā of the gurus, that guru paramparā which practically gives the knowledge and blessings to all bhaktas. Others cannot be successful. There are many who talk and speak many things, but there is no further path. It only goes till the grave. If they don't have a way, it will take them to the grave. So, Guru Vino gyānanā hoyī—without Gurudeva, no knowledge can be. Which kind of knowledge? Not this worldly knowledge of human work, but our quality, which is devotion to God—any kind of God from any country, any religion, or no religion. All who have got these divine techniques become one. From Sarvahitāsana and all other exercises, many masters and teachers are teaching. But we have to come further. Why are we all coming? Because we come so our ātmā, our soul, merges into the cosmic. There are many techniques of these Kriyā Śaktis. There are 64 Kriyā Śaktis or techniques. Out of these, some masters are catching or taking one or two. That is the best they are doing. They give one or two techniques to their disciples because those masters are also more or less on the path of these one or two techniques. The first is Guru. Guru Kṛpāhi Kevalam. Only by the blessing of Gurudev. Guru Kripāhi Kevalaṁ Śiṣyaki Ānanda Maṅgalaṁ. It is said that when a disciple comes and learns first and best, then guru kripā hi kevalaṁ—it is only the blessing of Gurudev. Śiṣṭe ke ānanda maṅgalam. Therefore, the disciple is in cosmic self, happiness, and joy everywhere. On this earth, in this globe, there are millions of great gurus. But that kind of guru doesn't come and make more and more. We have gurus who have not seen the disciple, and the disciple has not seen that guru. But that is the guru who knows which disciple is searching and is lost. He will give blessings from five descents, and suddenly the disciple comes again into spirituality. A master should be such that he knows his disciples. He knows when a disciple goes off the path, and he blesses him so he can return. Such was Devpurījī. If he were sitting here, he could give blessings over a great distance. That is Devpurījī or Mahāprabhujī. Read Mahāprabhujī's book, Līlā Amṛt. For example, there is a story about a person who had a problem: he was eating something and a seed went into his nose. He began to have great problems inside; a doctor even wanted to operate. It was near Bombay. He asked Holī Gurujī. Holī Gurujī said Mahāprabhujī could give a blessing so he wouldn't need an operation. So, Holi Guruji—our Swami Madhavānandajī Bhagavān—went to Mahāprabhujī in Barīkhāṭu, and the person went there. When he was approaching, about 20 meters away, Mahāprabhujī said, "Oh, you came here. You have this problem. Come, eat something and drink milk, and go back to your village. There, beside you, a person has chickens. When one chicken comes closer to you, your problem will be gone." He drank milk, Mahāprabhujī gave him something to eat, and a train was coming. Mahāprabhujī said, "Go immediately." The person was not so satisfied; he thought, "This sādhu didn't speak with me. I didn't ask him, and he just said to drink milk and go." But when you have a big problem, anything given can solve it. He went back. One person had a few chickens. One chicken came towards him, and he made a motion, and the corn came out from his nostril. The chicken caught and ate it. A little blood came, but all the pain and problem were gone immediately. He went back to Holy Guruji in the city. Holy Guruji asked, "Did you meet Mahāprabhujī?" The man said, "Mahāprabhujī was not there, only God. When I saw him, all my problems were gone." That is called the guru. Therefore, it is: Guru Brahmā, Guru Viṣṇu, Guru Deva, Guru Maheśvara, Guru Śakṣak, para Brahmā. That's why it is said, "Guru Brahmā, Guru Viṣṇu, and Guru Śiva"—all together; above that is the Guru. Therefore, meditate. Concentrate towards the Gurudev. He will give everything. That kind of guru can be not only in India or the Himalayas. It can be in the desert, and you don't know who that is. In India, we search for gurus and try to look to them, saying, "Please, Gurujī, can you give me?" But many times, there is such a master that people don't see he is the master. There is a great sense on this earth, and we should have that kind of master—not those collecting people or money. Without giving, without asking, but they are giving. That is the guru. Similarly, our anuṣṭhāna is a great technique, and you should all practice. But you should not give this technique further. Only that guru from our paramparā will give it. We have many in Europe as well. They must not be a sannyāsī; there are many others, normal, with luggage and everything. But they are very great. I know who is who because of how many years they have practiced with me. There are many, many of our brothers and sisters. These techniques we have here are not for every day—once a year, maximum twice a year—because they need a very calm and peaceful place. Only on these days are you alone with thyself. The rest of us have families and work, so we cannot always do it. I got these many techniques from Holī Gurujī and then from another, Holī Gurujī's guru brother. He was older than Holi Guruji, a simple person, but one of the best bhajan singers: Vardhānandjī Mahārāj and Bodhānandjī Mahārāj. He was great. Holī Gurujī often stayed with him. He told me to go and see Mahāprabhujī. In his dream, he got Mahāprabhujī, and he said, "My master is also Mahāprabhujī. Go there." So, you are here now. How many years have I trained you? Now you have this capacity, but it's still not that you can give further. When I talk about something very powerful, the next day you should not teach that. So many of our yoga teachers, my disciples—it doesn't matter if they are in orange, yellow, or white—immediately think, "Now I will teach this because Swamijī talked." Wait, wait, wait. You don't know where this power will go, and you will come there. So, my dears, you are all great yogīs, and I'm very proud of you. You are great souls, and you always attract me, so I have to go to you. It is not the disciple who goes to the guru, but the guru who comes to the disciples. It is like iron and a magnet. Sometimes the disciple is a magnet, and sometimes the master is a magnet. If the magnet is there but the iron is not, what will it do? Sometimes the magnet and iron are very close but don't come together because they are going in other directions. A person with negative energies will come near the Master but will try to keep a distance. We should know that we have to practice and come back. Our practice today was beautiful. The technique involved many chakras, but especially the Maṇipūra Chakra. Another powerful one is the Anāhata Chakra. Viśuddhi also, and Mūlādhāra Cakra, and the Svādhiṣṭhāna cakra. All chakras have the same beautiful powers and are different. One person said, "Swamiji, the Svādhiṣṭhāna chakra," and everybody thinks that chakra is more for desires—feelings towards male or female. That is not its power. It is the nābhi, and from nābhi it has to come to the sahasrāra; that is another part. Someone asked me, "I cannot understand, and I can't control Svādhiṣṭhāna. How can I control it? What can I do?" I said it's very easy: go into the garden and work there. Then that chakra will become. So if you cannot control this, go control the garden. It is not like that; it is completely different. You don't know where in the body some kind of divine light will come. That is what we have to know. It is in the whole body. That power is there everywhere, but you cannot get it because you have no power. It has to be the mother. Now, all mothers are mothers. How many females are here? But only a mother and child, when they are together and the child is little and wants to drink milk, can the mother give. The father is sitting, but he can do nothing. Another mother is sitting, but she cannot give you milk. Even if a child tried to taste milk from another woman's chest, there is nothing. Even if you cut it, milk will not come out; blood will come, nothing else. Neither your father nor any of your other sisters' children will die. We can give goat milk or others, but that milk which comes from that mother—because she has twice given milk: first, as long as the child was in her womb through the navel, and then after the child came out, milk came through the breast. So it is that you don't know where the desire is. That's very important to know, and if you are trying hard, it is not nice. These techniques, you have a lot in this. How many years? Before, there were long techniques, but I deleted many things. Otherwise, it was for every five minutes, ten minutes. Many of our bhaktas, our devotees and practitioners, are practicing. One day, they have got this knowledge. Many things we did not write in our book; this is only for you. Many times I told them before, "I give you this kriyā. If you teach others, your power will be gone." And what will be with you? Desire. Then you think, "I will teach this yoga kriyā. I don't need Swāmījī; I am the master." That is lost. The person is also lost, and the other is lost. So you have power in your hand now, still. I can tell you, do these techniques. Otherwise, don't do it. Therefore, many people lost everything. So it is a guru and disciple relationship. There are many things to know, but time has gone, and I am very happy to see you. We will speak further. We spoke today about these techniques, and many, many more. I have to see again how many seconds per minute by this program: walking with Swamiji, lunch, breakfast, Karmayoga, Bhakrī Prāṇāyām, Trikuṭī Prāṇāyām, Pṛkuṭī Prāṇāyām, Breakout—there are so many. Perhaps one day we will come together, only those who are practicing Kriyā Yoga, and we should give all to our bhaktas. But not you can do it; only those who have got the instructions and blessings can give you instructions. Thank you, and all the best. Adió. Fifteen minutes are there if you have any more questions. That's very good. Backside and body. Is it a question or a statement? Water. Please, in which chakra is Pitṛloka? Once again, please. Again. In which chakra is Pitṛloka? In your brain. Brain chakra. Sahasrāra chakra. Yes.
