Earth and Ocean

A satsang discourse on the sacredness of birthplace and the earth, prompted by the reconstruction of a temple.

"Where someone was born, that is very, very holy Mother Earth."

"Let’s today feel this, our earth... we all are coming automatically to that place, meaning that earth where there is a holy place."

Swamiji addresses the gathering, beginning with the historical destruction and recent rebuilding of a temple to Bhagavān Rāma. He connects this to the sanctity of one's birthplace and the earth itself, urging everyone to physically connect with the soil. The talk expands into the five elements, the nature of consciousness (jñāna), and includes humorous anecdotes about family dynamics before concluding with a call to observe a 24-hour lamp-lighting for the temple and a collective chant.

For many years, when the Mughals came to India, they gave people a choice: be killed or become Muslim. They destroyed all holy temples and built mosques in their place. One such temple was the Dvādaśa Jyotirliṅga in Gujarat. They destroyed it too, but somehow people tried to get it back. Bhagavān Rāma lived about one hundred thousand years ago. There was a palace there that was also destroyed. You know the story of his father. They destroyed the temple and made a mosque. For many, many years, Hindus tried and tried to reclaim it. There is a political system also. Now, finally, after many years, the Supreme Court has allowed it. Mr. Modiji, our Prime Minister, is doing it, though there are people who do not want it and seek to create problems. This coming December, on the fifth day, they laid the foundation. They saw inside the many, many palaces of Bhagavān Rāma. You could see everything inside. Now they have made the foundation again. All Hindus, millions, made the foundation with silver—there are big, big silvers. Now, they would like to take a little earth from your place, your house, from any temple. Just now, I was talking with some people. They came from very far, from where this temple will be. They sent a message saying, "Swāmījī is here." They went to get the dust: from my birthplace, from Om Ashram, from the Dvādaśa Jyotirliṅga, from our Holy Gurujī’s birthplace at Nīpāl Ashram, from Khatu Mahāprabhujī’s birthplace where Mahāprabhujī lived, and also from Kailāśāsana and Jayapurāsana. I said I was in a lecture, but they said, "We come from very far, from Kāśī." So I was talking, and I saw this whole place. They said, "Where are you sitting now, Swāmījī? We would like to meet the mind only. We are sitting and we will take the dust." So our whole ashram became very holy. Let’s sing the bhajan. Which bhajan will you sing? Yes, which one? Nice. O Veda Purāṇa Meghate Guru Caraṇam Meharasat Tiratah. O Veda Purāṇa Meghate Guru Caraṇam Meharasat Tiratah. Voh Veda Purāṇa Megate Vah Uttama Jijñāsuhate. Vah Uttama Jijñāsuhate Voh Vimalaniramenate. Voh Vimalaniramenate Vaha Anubhava Baniyate, Voh Satya Viveka Batate, Vaha Anubhava Baniyate, Voh Satya Viveka Batate. Guru Caraṇam Meharasat Tiratah, Voh Veda Purāṇam Ghaṭ... Voh Veda Purāṇa Meghate... Guru Caraṇam Meharasatatiratahe, Voh Veda Purāṇam Meghate... Vopara Brahma Millejate... Śrīdhī Pāhārikā Guṇagate Śrīdhī Pāhārikā Guṇagate Svāmī Śiva Nañjimanābhate Pīrāṇa Deva Nahi Dhyāte Svāmī Śiva Nañjimanā Bhate Pīrāṇa Deva Nahi Dhyāte Guru Caraṇam Meharasat Tirat Goveda Purāṇam Ghaṭ Vuru Caraṇam Me Arasatatiratahe Vedā Purāṇa meṅ gatahe, Vedā Purāṇa meṅ gatahe... Voh Veda Purāṇam Megate Guru Caraṇam Meharasatatiratahe... Voh Veda Purāṇam Megate. This bhajan is a beautiful bhajan. You have learned and sung it many times, and the translation was very good. In this bhajan is something very nice, exactly related to what they brought from India, from the holy place where God Rāma was worshipped, where he was married, and how to say—born. We can see that is really, truly where God Rāma was. You know Rāma and his three brothers, and Sītā of God Rāma, and also Bhagavān Kṛṣṇa. Where Kṛṣṇa was born, you know, it was very hard. There is also a great, great place, like in Bethlehem, which in the church we call the place where Jesus was born. It doesn’t matter how people think, which country, what and how. But where someone was born, that is very, very holy Mother Earth. Where you are also born, your birth is written on the Mother Earth, that you were here. You were born here. It is written: your name and everything. Your energy, everything is given on Mother Earth. Now we don’t know where your birthplace is. It is in a hospital. In the hospital, we don’t know in which place. They just take the child out, clean it, wash it, and then it goes away. Of course, it is safe. To give birth in a hospital is safe. Out of a hundred, maybe one has difficulties. Sometimes, not only the child but the mother also dies. So it is good that we have a nice birth-making for the child. Unfortunately, I don’t want to tell, but it is in many countries. I think in Austria—not Austria, it is very, very nice, very good—maybe also in Czech, but there are some other countries. In many other countries, and now, what we call the holy country of India, so many people said the doctor said it’s very complicated and we have to do a caesarean, but it costs money. A normal birth is okay; the government is giving. But they say, "No, no, it’s a complication, and the sheep is dying, and this and that," and so, sharing. So this is another way. At least we can say our birth was there, and that place is, at least, where they took you home. So that last place we came from. I don’t know what it is said, that if any woman gives birth on an airplane, America says that child gets an American passport. For America, yes, of course. Maybe you will ask for your country’s passport also. So much respect and take care of America. So many countries have many good things, many nice things. But it is said that you should never, never forget where your birthplace is: the country and the place where your mother gave you birth or brought you onto this earth. And it is always, always they who give birth to the child, nicely clean and nicely placed on the earth. Of course, now you have no earth because your mother gave birth on the tenth floor. So there is no earth, but at least think that on your floor is your earth. So there are two things: the birth on the earth, and when a person dies, the birth, the earth, the air, and the jīvā should go on the earth. So, put your parents, or anyone, please put them on the earth. It means God, that sky, Brahmalokas, gave that on the earth. Mother Earth, father is there, and mother is here, and that Mother Earth. She will also again say, "Please keep my child there." That’s very, very important. Now, not only humans—generally they said all are born on the earth, or in the water. Yes, water in the mother’s body, or the eggs. They also open somewhere on the earth or in the water, or on the trees. But when they die, it’s coming, or after that, they are coming to the earth. So our Mother Earth is a holy earth. Holy Mother. Animals don’t know, but they feel they know. And they have their path, you know. Now, on many highways and roads, we write that animals are passing, and you know that they give some kind of bridge under the bridge so these animals can go. Now, at 20 years on the highway, animals were born just one year ago. Or they are also about two months, or one month. Many animals come out of the mother’s body and they get up. They have prāṇa. Deer and tigers and all this, they are on their legs. But humans, did you immediately walk up? Your father got up at that time. Anyhow, we are not going so far, but it is said we will come on the earth and we will go in the earth. That is everyone. Where God gave this kind of five tattvas, and in these five tattvas, the first is the earth, prāṇa. After the prāṇa, so first is the earth, and second is prāṇa. The second is our... capacity, if we can move our brain, etc. Then, after that, very, very important things, and that is called the thinking. That’s very important, all in the body, everything, then we think. And that is in our body or beyond that, what we call the vijñāna. Jñāna. And that jñāna goes in every animal. Yesterday, when we were in prayer and satsaṅg, I went a little over, so Devpurījī said, "I will not wait for you, boy." So quickly I stopped and said, "Praṇām, praṇām, okay, it’s good." So in that praṇā, what we had was that we were thinking that we can do, our mind. Yes, but the mind will go back or this side or back. But inner, in the hṛdaya kamal, in the heart, that’s very important. That is very important, and there is what we call the Vijñāna. That is the Bhagavān Śaṅkarācārya. And you know, there is one little nice book, and that is what is called... No, no,... both are too big. Okay, so in that, it is written exactly, very nicely. So that’s jñāna. So jñāna is very, very important. And jñāna, for any animals: when the deer’s baby turns left and right, a little bit like this, and gets up after falling down, the balance in the legs, immediately, spinal segmentation, and prāṇas looking, you see, so that is a jñāna, and it goes more on the jñāna. Where should I sit, and where should I not? So, we will sit under where we hide ourselves, or the birds, or the snakes. And there are different kinds of creatures; some are only born in the night and die in the night, and they move in the night. This is a different thing, but still they are on earth. It will come from the water, but that will again come into the earth, and that water is mother, also father, ocean, and earth. This is one of the biggest for us. Others are very difficult to know. So, I told you, I think, this group I did not tell you. See that every day, when it’s possible, touch your earth. If you don’t have earth on the tenth floor, you can make some earth there or have some plants, but touch your hand. It means you are your mother. And if we go barefoot, a little bit or more, that is very, very healthy, walking on the earth without hot shoes and our socks. So it means touch Mother Earth also. So in our garden, we can go to our garden, vegetable garden, but please don’t do wrong things. If the gardener will tell, then we’ll say, "Touch this and touch this. Don’t pull out something." And begin to eat or bought something bad, the gardener will tell you, "Please go out." Or you can walk here on that. Of course, we should know war, hot and cold, so we should know. But you know, when the snow is here, the ice, and we walk just half a minute, then it will burn minute. Then it is not cold. But it is hot. It is cold, hot, burning. Taking the snow in our hand: it is cold, but then it is a fire. It is like a fire, so the water and fire are together. Cold and hot are together. So, this is what: if we can do something, it’s very good. Touching this one thing on the earth, of course. Please don’t put it somewhere where they are spraying on the earth some kind of poison, all different kinds of powder. Their mother will say, "My child, but I will heal you again." So otherwise, it’s good to walk in the river, if there is some sand on the river. Many, many things we have, or bring the earth at home, nice, from forest or from hills or somewhere. Five to ten kilos, nice, and put it in your nice pot from the earth, not plastic, and leave it dry. No problem. Just touch that one minute, two minutes. That will be great, or make one square meter or two square meters. And bring this earth inside, and some stones, and some nice, beautiful stones, and then walk on it for a while. So, what people say, it also could be acupressure, but it is the Mother Earth. Now, in this, can you see what is the value of our Mother? Like, what is the value of our Mother Earth? And that is also our mother, who gave us birth, is also our mother. And she will, till the last of her birth, doesn’t matter if she is good or not to you, but she will, she will feel it. Maybe some are not good, or maybe they are mentally not good. So the mind is always disturbing. So don’t go saying mind, mind, mind. Mind, you must be very, very careful. Very careful. Sometimes the mind can give you some kind of other problems. In the beginning, not. But after, maybe. You go, steal money, and then away is the mind. And then it will get it. Therefore, we have to be very careful. So, this is the second: if you don’t find the earth, then that earth in the earth is the mother. Is the tree a mother or a father? What is that in your language, in your country? This tree is mother, we said. This prāṇa energy is the father, but this is the mother. So this father is so strong to protect. Inside, it is her mother, and this is protecting. So, I always try whenever I touch my one tree and walk. When you go in a big city, on a street, many governments and many countries are putting nice trees near the street. So there are two things for this tree. That is very good. So one is that while going, you just touch it and go. And second is your dog. Yes, so your dog will give something because you don’t give the water. That’s also okay. Anyhow, we are here in this world. Now, what is prāṇa? Our air. Beautiful. So, prāṇamaya kośa, ānandamaya kośa, vijñānamaya kośa, manomaya kośa, etc. So mind is the best, temporarily. And then he goes long, and he is always in the front. Your mind will not go back, and it’s so quickly that nobody can go behind you. I tell you always, and I tell you something, and I speak only half a word and your mind is there. Like sometimes someone talking, and between persons they’re talking different. You are talking in your families, and your husband wants to tell something, and your father wants to tell something, and between, always your wife says, or mother says, and it is not like that, and that can... so he said, "Let me talk." That is also so it’s called the mother’s power. So what men do, they should do. He looks left and right, and sometimes children say it. Mother, please. Let Father speak. She said, "What should he speak?" That’s it. Mostly women, because women are the energy, the fire. Cool will be men. Fire will be women. But this is the next thing, okay? Men are very lazy. The big lion, and the female, she gets up. And the lion said, "Go and bring some food." So the female, she runs and brings, no? But when she cannot, then he comes. Or when she gets the... What do you call it, the hunt? Then she’s still holding. The lion doesn’t say. I will hold it. No, no, he begins to eat. Yes, that’s it sometimes. Sometimes when we are talking, if we don’t make a joke, then you will not hear my lecture. That’s why I’m saying it always, and it is true. Yes, even driving. When your husband and wife, sometimes the man is driving, but many I see from our ashram, and the wife said—many, many wives said, "Give me the key. Okay, and this and that." And she’s saying something. Okay, so the husband is driving, but she said, "Stop." Take care. One is driving behind. Many, many times, so sometimes in the car, and the front is written, "Darling, I know driving." Really? And she said, "Because of me." So I know so many, many human men are called fend off, fend off. Okay, that’s good, like me too. They are all telling something before me. So I said, "Okay, please let us eat." Coming at all, men sometimes, so it is. Husband and wife is a very good, and wife is very simple. When husband said, she just look, and when they are married, then she said, "I have." You sit down because now she is married, and now he cannot run away. Yes, I had many experiences here, and also in Czech. One boy came, and he was very nice and working for Swāmījī and this and that. And she had two girls or three girls, I think. I don’t know, long ago it was in 1976 maybe. There are... three generations, and he was very nice and doing everything. He was washing my car and this, and after, when he’s married, on the third day he said, "Either me or Swāmījī. I will not go there." And it happened so. There are human’s nature. And that’s why, you know, even the animals are also like this. So, when, how many females die? Are tigers or the lions? It’s okay. But the male, he doesn’t want to, he will kill others. Because he’s the king. He’s always looking, always getting up. And the other said, and the other said, "Anyhow, please, this is the joke: good and not good. This is my tree, and my tree is so peaceful. Everything is good. Touch the earth, touch the tree, the leaves, the flowers. Best would be that we should not break the flowers, but what we can do? There are sometimes, so there is." Jain sādhus, they will not cut the flowers and not take them in mālā, not on the altar. In the garden, good, yes, that’s God, because this is life, and when it became beautiful life. We cut it so flower is a male or a female, neutral, let’s say. Anyhow, so this feeling of the energy in all our five elements, and finally from this element, is what is that? Vastu, manomaya kośa, vijñānamaya kośa, ānandamaya kośa, and prāṇamaya kośa, prāṇa, and that prāṇa is the last. But in this prāṇa, we can go wrong, or we will continue within the fifth, the sixth, the seventh, the eighth. All this we go to the other height. So please read "Hidden Powers in Humans: Kundalini and Chakras." So we have to become one with our nature. Also, eat more of our vegetables. Not eating animals, etc. Many times people say, "Then why are you cutting and eating the trees? Why are you eating the fruits?" It is said that when the fruit ripens and falls down, then you can eat this fruit. But seeds give it to the mother again. So fruit is the mother, and seed is the father. And give, mother, seed. Give me my seeds back. So, there are many, many things. So, what I want to say today is, we all are coming automatically to that place, meaning that earth where there is a holy place, wherever you have now, here in this country. Even there is a Cross of Jesus somewhere in the forest, on the way to your farms or somewhere, the Holy Mother, you know, they are very, very good. So, my dear, let’s today feel this, our earth. I don’t know, I don’t know if it is Brahmaloka or not. So someone said once, "Gurujī, please, can you tell me, Gurujī, can you tell me, do you know the heaven? Is my God? Where is the Brahmaloka, Gurujī? So, can you show me the Gurujī?" One day Gurujī said, "OK. So you die, then I come back again, that you saw the Brahmaloka. Yes, Gurujī, that’s great." So he died. Gurujī said, "Hari Om." Always asking me this, asking me this. Všichni se mě ptají na tohle, všichni se mě ptají na tohle. And there he cannot come back. So Gurujī said, "Headache is finished." So don’t ask too much. Otherwise, Gurujī can send you somewhere. Of course, with the good things. Then go to the Cosmic Self and just make your mantras. So, in the Cosmic Self, you have no mālā, but you will say, "Dīp nirañjan sabaduka mañjan, dīp nirañjan sabaduka mañjan." Where is good death? There is no tree, no fruits, no hate, no fire. Where should I go? You are in the cosmic cell. Tak, dobře, ano, perfect. That’s it. It is a Swāmījī. Now is enough. We are hungry. Thank you, and it’s a thing. So this was about God Bhagavān Rāma. Give this more to everyone on that day where there will be a foundation for God Rāma everywhere in the world. Wherever you are, you should make the light with the oil, with a candle or any other light. That time they will say what time it is. And that night, we should make the light also. So, 24 hours of light should be there. And please write a letter to the countries where our ashrams are. Name them: how many ashrams, and which countries? And we will write how many people we can say do yoga in daily life. If you want, you can say my name, and this we will give, and we will send it there. Yes? Yes. Sītā Rām, Sītā Rām, Sītā Rām. Rādhe Śyām, Rādhe Śyām. No, no, only Sītā. Sītā Rām, Sītā Rām, Sītā Rām. Sītā Rām, Sītā Rām, Sītā Rām. Rām, Rām,... Rām, Rām, Rām... Sītā Rām, Sītā Rām, Sītā Rām... Sītā Rām, Sītā Rām,... Sītā Rām... Sītā Rām. Sītā Rām, Sītā Rām, Sītā Rām, Sītā Rām, Sītā Rām, Sītā Rām... Sītā Rām, Sītā Rām, Sītā Rām. Svāvar Rāmacandra Bhagavān Kī Devadhī Dev, Deveśvar Mahādev Ārādhi Bhagavān Śrīdīp Nārāyaṇ Mahāprabhujī Kī Satguru Svāmī Madhavānanjī Bhagavānakī Alak Purījī Mahādev Lalanānjī Mahārājakī Brāhmaṇānjī Mahārājakī. Sivanan̄jī Mahārājakī Om Śānti, Om Śānti, Om. That was a great day on this Mother Earth, and on that day we all should pray and sing so that you will get a lot of prāṇa energy, everything good. Adios.
