Mala leads us to the Cosmic Self

The Mālā symbolizes the universal cycle binding all existence. Each bead contains immense cosmic power, representing all beings. The thread is the cycle of ages and elements, connecting every creature. Breaking this thread scatters the seeds, losing unity. All beings, from humans to mosquitoes, possess the same dormant divine fire within. This inner power is equal, whether in an ant or an elephant. The physical mala reflects this cosmic principle within the body, like breath and heartbeat. True practice aligns with this universal cycle, not mere counting.

"Each bead of the mala is immense with powers from the cosmic Self."

"Whether a little tiny fire or a big fire, it is the same."

Good evening, all my dear brothers and sisters, all yoga practitioners, all teachers of yoga, and all other bhaktas around the world. I wish you all the best: peace, harmony, understanding, and a very deep feeling in our hearts for all creatures. Yesterday, there was talk about the Mālā. You all explained to me, my Gurudev, what the power in the Mālā is. This Mālā is not only physical; it is beyond that. Each bead of the mala is immense with powers from the cosmic Self. This mala brings together all those who are with peace, harmony, understanding, love, and brotherhood. This mala, and the thread within it—which you also have—this thread is the cycle of all five lokas, from the old ages, Satya Yugas, Dvāpara Yugas, and so on, where reside those who are very divine, very humble, and part of the cosmic Self. That is the cycle. In that one thread, all creatures on this earth are bound. Beyond our earth, all five elements are constantly moving forward, and we are all bound with this one thread. What is the thread for the Mālā? We are all who are now in this world. It does not matter if you are a yogī, spiritual, religious, of no religion, or anything else. You are all in the seed of the mālā, in that bead. If we break the thread, then the seeds will scatter and be lost, left alone. So, those who, according to their own thinking, seek what is spiritual, or God, or good things—they are all in that one seed, which is this dot. This seed... I did not see the thread is in the whole universe. Those who come to this earth... it is very great. This is our earth, Mother Earth, and from here, the circle goes. Every creature, even a little mosquito, has that sense of the cosmos, the Cosmic Self, the goddess of God. We think we are strong people, but an elephant is bigger, or a tiny creature... now, the power is the same. The elephant's soul and the ant's soul—we might say no, the small creature has a small soul and a big elephant has a big one. This body is mortal, but the soul is eternal. An example to tell the power: in the forest, a fire burns the whole forest, a heavy fire. My God, so much forest, and fire, fire, fire. And a little creature, an ant, also has that fire inside, but it is still dormant. That tiny strip of fire can burn a whole mountain. The fire in your house—a little spark can burn the whole house. You know that in many conference halls, it is written, "No fire inside." Many times I have given lectures in big halls and we wanted to have one little candle, but the owner said, "Please, no fire." We said we would be careful, but no. So, whether a little tiny fire or a big fire, it is the same. It burns everything. That is an example. Similarly, whether it is an animal, a human, or any living creature, they all have the same power to come to the Supreme, or it will still be dormant somewhere. Similarly, in this one bead in our mālā, there is immense, immense spirituality's fire. Many times we have rings. Some have rings here. Someone may have something. Now, everywhere there is a power. You may understand only beauty, or that it is gold, or silver, etc. That is for us only an ornament, but that power is there. Some know, and some do not. In that way, the mala. We said there are 8.4 million creatures. It means there is one, let's say, one bird—big bird, little bird, etc., or flying. They are all only one. Then there are other creatures in the water, on the earth, in the sky, in space. Jalachar means so many different creatures in the water. And water itself is also one life. In the Middle East somewhere, there is something, they said it was an ocean, part of the ocean, and that is dead. A very salty [body], slowly, slowly going down; there is no life inside. So, jalachar. And this jalachar means also in our body, the liquid which is in our body, blood, etc. It is not only the blood; there are the cells in blood, how many different creatures inside. Also the water, like in the trees, fruits, etc. That is a part of our whole earth, Mother. Then there is the Sthalachar, the earth—everything, even the rocks, the rocks which are under the water, which is solid. There are also numerous, numerous creatures. And then the jalachar, sthalachar, and nabhaschar. Nabhas means sky, and there are creatures, many, many. They are also born, they die, all in the sky. In all this, this is called one circle. And that is in the thread—the God—and the others are all many beads. They are different. Different means not that this is a Rudrākṣa, but it is that they all have different powers inside. If we understand this mala, a necklace, a ring, etc., that is a power inside our body. So, the mala. When we come to practicing the mala, then we are in the cycle of the whole universe. One mala bead. Yesterday I told you how to hold it. Some people practice the mala in what they call a pocket, like a little box in the hand, a glove, and they put the mala inside to practice because they do not want to put the mala in a dirty place. Some say the mala should be practiced hidden. That is not necessary. We have in our body the whole blood circulation; that is the mala. Similarly, this mala should be visible, giving its light here, its energy, which goes for everyone. This mala is not very expensive, but its power is expensive. That power we cannot see, but it is immense energy, power. And that is what we are talking about, about this chakra. In each chakra, there is immense power here. And we are still only here where the Gaṇeśa is. This power is so much that we are living from this power. So, one mālā, and ten mālās, many mālās. The one mala is breathing in and out. So our breath is that mala. Even when we are sleeping, everywhere, we are breathing. Then there is another mala, that is more powerful and very important: when we dive in the water, we cannot breathe in and out, but the mala is the heart. You can see your heart is all the time beating. That is a mala. The breath, this wish, that one day this mala will break. Then all beads will go away. This is also a mala. So there is one mala within our body. In the same way, this mala will lead us to the cosmic Self. If you believe or do not believe... Gurujī said, "If you believe or you don’t believe, what will be will be, that’s all." Someone said, "No, I don’t believe." No problem. And those who believe, it’s all belief, okay? So our words, believe or not believe, are above the malas. So the mala is above this, whether we believe or not believe. And that means the yoga. Which kind of yoga do you want to practice, please? Now, in this Kali Yuga, in this time of yoga, we people are doing yoga. But what kind of yoga are we doing? Very limited, for our body. That’s it. Āsanas, prānāyāmas, then relax. What is the relax? Meditation. What are you doing in meditation? Then I will go to God. I will go to some different things, meditations, and we are tired and we sleep. That is not mālā, that is not further. We cannot go further, so we are talking very much about this outer world. Someone tells Gurujī, "What is this? How is this? Why are we not doing? Why do we do? Why can I not meditate?" Many things, but this is all outer side. I told you many times: a snake is going like this, but when he sees the hole in the earth somewhere, then he quickly goes straight. It does not go like that. So when we find that hole—we can say our darśan—then we are not going, "This practice and that practice, and this meditation and that meditation." So there is always this mala. And all the times we are in this one. We are working, but this goes constantly further. So, mala. Now this is called in our hand, mala. That’s called sumaraṇī. Now, one mālā which is for meditation, to make for mantra, but then we want to have our mantra more, that is endless, and that is this mālā. It has 27 pearls, and in this there are these seeds, and we are the same techniques, and we are practicing like this, but there is no... but there is no Sumeru. This is the Sumeru. So we are counting about 108 beads. And then we touch this, and we turn to the other side, not going over. So when we are coming, then when it comes to the Sumeru, we should not go further that side, but turn back again. How? Then hold your, again this last from here, beat with this finger again. So you turn like this. We go again. We come here again, and we are turning back. So this is the mālā for meditation mantras. How much will you do? So we are not counting the mala, but we are counting each bead. And if you do, let’s say, one mala one day, then how long? In one year, how many beads will that be? That you must have counted. And if you do more, then it’s more; already you are there. So if you go one step per day, it’s only one step. If you run, how many kilometers will you go? Similarly, when we practice more meditation, we will be closer to that Supreme. And then this mala is not for counting. This little, no counting. So there should be no sumeran in this one. Many people have a mala and swing it around a little like this. That’s not good. This has no end. So you are going higher and higher without any, how do you call it, block. And therefore, this mala should have no simaraṇa here. This is the mantra which you are practicing, five mālās or ten mālās, etc. If you can do it, no problem. Otherwise, this is continuously going. So it is said, swāsa by swāsa, it means breath of the breath, inhalation and exhalation. So this is counting our heart. In one minute, we are about 14 heartbeats, generally. If you are restless or running, riding, walking, then my heart is going more. That will not be counted when you run, and this and that. That will count only your peaceful heart. That counting—how many beats, how many beats in the heart—what are we counting? So it is as relaxed and good. You have your heartbeat that will be counted. Running is this; that will not count it. So this beat of the heart, and there, if you go to meditation, then the breath and the heartbeat go slow. It does not mean, "Oh God, I will die." It is enough oxygen. That’s why the yogī said, "Eat little. Drink water also, not too much." Because your breath and this eating should be less. As much as we will eat, we will get more weight, and that will give more to the heart, very heavy, and also the heart will tear more. Therefore, eat little, but not that tomorrow you will see. I will immediately make little one heartbeat for one year, one day counted through your food. So, in one year, slowly, slowly... we bring our body more healthy and very light. Light. Then we need little water. Everything in the body will again become healthy. That is the yogic way. So we will continue. How we will go further. And that’s why those ṛṣis—one ṛṣi was telling me, we met in the Himalayas, and sometimes he comes to the countryside—what he said: take one handful of rice for 24 hours. Fruit somewhere, only one or two. Water very nice, clean. So food will slowly, slowly... water will also not need too much. And so, in meditation. But if you do immediately now, no problem. You will die quickly. Then, next life you will get other yoga. So it is short and sweet. So that is also the mala. So there are so many malas in hands. So, there are many questions and many things. Tomorrow. Deep night. Bhagavān Kī Jai.
