Oneness

A year-end satsang on religious harmony, yoga traditions, and the necessity of the Guru.

"We should not believe that all other religions and their dates, their months and their observances, should be deleted."

"Without Gurudev, who can let us cross the ocean of that saṃsāra?"

The lecturer addresses the global Yoga in Daily Life community as the year closes. He emphasizes respecting all religions, cultures, and their calendars, warning against efforts to erase traditions. He explains the unity of yoga beneath different school names, using the analogy of a nation and its citizens. The core teaching is the indispensable role of the Satguru in guiding the soul beyond physical and mental practices toward liberation, ultimately paying homage to the lineage of Gurudev Swami Madhavanandaji.

Dev Deveśvar Mahādev Bhagavān Kī Jai. Ārādhya Bhagavān Śrī Dīpa Nārāyaṇa Mahāprabhujī Kī Jaya. Hindu Dharma Samrāṭ Satguru Svāmī Madhavānandajī Bhagavān Kī Jai. Alak Purījī Mahādev Kī Jai. Devadhī Dev, all great saints, and this evening, all my dear sisters and brothers. Yoga in Daily Life is present around the world, in many different āśrams and yoga centers, with millions of yoga teachers and many millions of yoga students. Day by day this year, many great yoga teachers worked very hard to include yoga in life so that we turn back to our Self—for our body, our thoughts, our mind, our spirituality, our relations, the religions, the countries, everywhere. This year is now very close to its end. We know yesterday and today we are celebrating Christmas, but it is more than that. It is a very divine feeling for all within these two days. This year is closing, and we are approaching a new year. But there are many different countries and different religions, and they also have their own days. For example, the Jewish religion has another new year, the Buddhists have another, and the Hindus, of course, have had another for many ages. The Muslims also have their days. Every religion and every country, all those who are following, they are still worshipping according to their religions underwater. And it should be, and it will be, continued according to their culture, their religion, their God. We should not believe that all other religions and their dates, their months and their observances, should be deleted. This is very important. If we do not keep our traditions, our religions, our countries, and our old customs, we should not delete them. That is what I have always said in my lectures. I adore all these cultures, religions, languages, and also their times and days. Unfortunately, certain groups or certain people are trying to delete others and take only one. For example, in the last few years, they have changed the time of the day. When winter comes, they take, for instance here in Europe, Indian time and European time. So now, from where I am in Czechoslovakia, it is a difference of four and a half hours. After this, in summer, it will be only 3.4, 3.5, 4.5... always changing. That is not good for the animals and for other things where there is no day for God. Time is time. We should not change it. Similarly, we should not change religions; we should adore all religions, all cultures, all languages, etc. In that same way, what I am telling about yoga: there is only one point, yoga. But it is like this: where I am practicing, where it is taught, etc., then we give it a name—for example, Yoga in Daily Life, some say Kriyā Yoga, some say Śivananda Yoga, Brahmananda Yoga, etc. This is just the people's name, like a company name. But the reality is that as a yogī, we have to practice and we have to learn. Let's say, for example, we are in this country where I am, the Czech country. They are the citizens of the Czech nation. It is only one, the Czech nation. But the people who live there have different names. So the name of the country is one name. But you cannot say, "I am like this." We have different names—your body's name, your personal name, and your country's name. If all people of the Czech nation said only, "There is one František, only František," it cannot be. That is why there are different yogas, different ways of teaching, and different techniques. So there is the name of their āśram, there are yoga centers, etc. As our Gurudev, Swami Madhavānandajī Bhagavān, said: one in all and all in one. Now, the second point: for example, I am one person. I have one name and one whole body. But in the body, how many names are inside? There are many names for the different bones, the nerve systems, the muscles, etc. Many, many things are also within. So how can we control it? Control is automatically done by God, but we should respect all this, the system of the whole body. Sometimes, when something is out of order, then there are many techniques one will take: the Ayurvedic, someone will say "only massage," someone will use warm water or warm things, or homeopathy, or allopathic doctors. So there are many, many treatments, but we are one. We have to get support from others, and we can also help others. Different foods: doctors will say, "No, don't eat this. Ne jedzte toto, jedzte iba to [Don't eat this, eat only that]." So, the nature of a person, the nature that everyone has, everything in the body—but we are our feeling, our mental state, and this is what we take differently. One wants to eat a beautiful mango, and another says, "No, only cherry." That is the distance, the difference. And then, of course, the doctor will say a certain person cannot eat the mango, and someone cannot eat the cherries. So there is nature in the body, and the harmony is changing. But we are human. We are the same. So that is that. In this time, the whole world shall come together in harmony, in peace, love, respect, etc. And whatever we will do, it will one day end. For example, we have spent nearly one and a half months learning; we read the Śiva Purāṇa. We saw in it how many differences were there: the śeval or distractions, holy persons or rākṣasas, many different things. One has learned so much. In this Śiva Purāṇa, it is made very nice, very nice about children—the born children, the pregnant women, the families, the single person, the yogīs, and so on. And all have to be brought together into one. That is how Śiva understands, and He will respect all. So that was very great. Similarly, those yoga exercises that people are doing in other schools, ashrams, or somewhere—they have their own teaching. It is like when rain comes and water flows, then comes to a little creek and to a little river, and then to a big river, and then comes to the ocean again. And so it is with us. We know that I am good, you are very good, and you are much better. Okay. But God will say it, the Supreme will say it: "All is one." So, yoga is the science of humans. Our Prime Minister Modi, a few years ago, gave a very nice lecture, and first what he said was, "Yoga is the science of humans," and that is true. All these things which are physical, mental, spiritual—different things—we can practice, we will practice, we try to live. But one day we have to go. And in that, what are we doing? This is only for yoga, physically, a little mentally: āsanas, prāṇāyāmas, meditation, concentration, etc. But that will not touch the soul. For the yogīs, they come to high levels within, and we are all you, and then comes the Guru. At that time, the Guru will not give you only āsanas and prāṇāyāmas, etc. You should do it; it is good. But that Guru, which is a sattva Guru, is the paramparā’s Guru. Then they will be coming to the Brahmalokas. And there we cannot say, "Now I am only on the Guruji and this, and I will go to the Brahmalokas." No, no... It is not like that. We have to do mantras, we have to do seva and bhajans, etc. So, what I am telling you, in the last few days of our Gurudev, Hindu Dharma Samrāṭ Swāmī Madhavānandajī, I am saying this: "Hovareem toh." After that, we have said. This is—I did not translate this now. So, that is it. Satguru śaraṇa gayā binā murak. Satguru śaraṇa gaya binā—without Gurudev. We are without Guru’s lectures, Guru’s sādhanās. So we have to come to the Gurudev. And which is that? The final place is that. Do not forget this. Otherwise, we are foolish. O person, O man, don’t give up. Go to the Gurudevs, or mother, or your father. You have to come to there, and they will talk to you. Without Gurudeva, who can let us cross the ocean of that saṃsāra? In this saṃsāra, we have to come to one point: the Guru is also your mother, your father, your very good friends, your teachers, and then the Satguru, Guru Paramparā. Then definitely we will come to the Brahmalokas. It doesn’t matter if you are married or not married. It is not that only if you do not marry and you will not have women or the man, then you will go to mokṣa. No, no... It is not like that only. Only when the couples are together, then maybe one makes a disturbance this way, that makes the other side angry or diseased. That’s the problem. Otherwise, it is like day and night. So it doesn’t matter which you want to see, but this day and night belongs to our body. Yes, this bhajan is so beautiful, and I will continue. I wish you all the best, and we say to our Gurudev, Hindu Dharma Samrāṭ Satguru Swami Madhavānandajī, we adore Him, we worship Him, and we know that He is our Gurudev. And Devadhī Deep Bhagavān Deep Nārāyaṇa Mahāprabhujī is our Cosmic God, Devpurījī and Alakpurījī. Om Shanti, Om Shanti, Om Shanti. Bless you all, my dear, and have a nice, good evening with this one. Hari Om Shanti.
