Neti and pranayama

The practice of netī and prāṇāyāma cleanses the subtle channels and brings health. The spine houses the Vajranāḍī, the vital channel for all creatures; its injury ends life. Care is essential in all physical activity. Netī cleanses the nostrils using a lotā with warm, salted water; practice only in the morning. This relieves headaches and clarifies the senses. Prāṇāyāma begins with alternate-nostril breathing to purify the nāḍīs. Techniques like nāḍī śodhana and anuloma viloma balance energy and release ailments. Consistent practice yields profound benefits for the mind and body.

"The Vajranāḍī is not only for humans, but for all creatures... When the Vajranāḍī is broken, then life is gone."

"Inhale with the left nostril... exhale only with the left nostril... Then we close the left nostril, and we inhale and exhale only with the right nostril."

Devadhī Deva, Deveśvara Mahādeva kī jeho, Alag Purījī Mahādeva kī jeho, Ārādhya Bhagavān Śrī Dīp Nārāyaṇa Mahāprabhujī kī jeho, Satguru Svāmī Madhavānandajī Bhagavān kī jeho. The blessings of our Gurudevs to all of us—all our Bhaktas, sisters, brothers, yoga teachers, and yoga professors. I welcome all Yoga in Daily Life people around the whole world. Many of them are coming more and more, bringing the message and the peace that they feel in their heart, that we are in protection. I am very happy, and I bless them by our Gurus, Mahāprabhujī, Holy Gurujī. I bless you, our Guru Paramparā, and you who are new here or you who have returned after a long time. We are in that prāṇa, prāṇāyāma. So many of our Yoga in Daily Life people know about prāṇāyāma, and some may still not, so I would again come to how to make prāṇāyāma. You know that Iḍā, Piṅgalā, and Suṣumnā are these three breaths. The most powerful is called Vajranāḍī. That Vajranāḍī is like the standing reed, the whole spine in the body. This Vajranāḍī is not only for humans, but for all creatures, all animals with four legs or two legs, all reptiles. It is so powerful; this is very important. When the Vajranāḍī is broken, then life is gone. Painful, very painful, very painful. So, my dears, we should be very careful in making our exercises—be it yoga practice, running, playing, many things that we do. We should take really good care of our powerful spine. There are two nostrils: the left one we call the moon, and the right is the sun. The third is Iḍā, Piṅgalā, and Suṣumṇā. When we begin to practice prāṇāyāma—for those who still have not practiced and are new students—it is said that’s called Haṭha Yoga. In Haṭha Yoga, there are certain exercises. There is also what we call, this is with the water and nostrils cleaning, and that’s called netī. Netī is for the nostrils, cleaning of our left and right nostrils. Everybody, many of you know about the lotā. Nowadays it is available in many, many places, in every country, in pharmacies. It is very, very good for health and for cleaning our nostrils, but don’t practice in the evening because then you will have a whole night headache. First, we have to learn how to do this netī. Leave the mouth open and breathe in and out only through the mouth, not through the nostrils. Take one lotā, this pot, with warm water. Let’s say about 40 degrees. Fill this lotā, which should be cleaned nicely. Put water inside, about 40 degrees, and add a little salt inside—half a teaspoon. It must be very good salt; good if we can get it from ocean water, but if not, then there is stone salt. If you do not put the salt inside, then it will feel like burning in the nostrils. So, salt is very important. This lotā is about half a liter. Put one teaspoon of salt inside, and then the water should go to the nostril. Open your mouth; inhale only from the mouth, in and out. When we put it, for example, on the left side nostril, we lean our head a little like this. Water will go automatically from the left nostril to the right nostril; the water will come clean, and all things come out. Use about half the water in this lotā. Then do it from the right side, until all water comes out from the lotā. After doing the left side, we should lean to the left side and breathe out more. We are like this: inhaling from the mouth and exhaling from the nose. When the other side goes, we also do like this. After, with both nostrils very nicely, then once with the left, left, right, left, right, left. So it means we should bring the water out from the nose. Then you can have normal breath again. This should be done only in the morning when you go to your bathroom. It takes about ten minutes, and the whole day we will have a very nice feeling in our brain. Many people have a headache, and from this, they should take proper water, consider how high the heat is, and the salt must be. Immediately, on the same day, you will feel very nice, very pleasant in your eyes, in your ears, and in your head. You will see, in about one month when you do it every day, you will be so good. Then there is one called sūtra netī. This is also from the Arvada Buddha. There is a catheter, plastic, and we can go in the nose, in, and bring it in the mouth, out. No problem, no other thing. It is very good. The catheter goes in, and then with one finger we take it out, and in the nose, like this, and also on the other side. It feels very good. So if not every day with the catheter, then at least after the third day we should do it. This task is very good. There are some other kinds of techniques, but we don’t need to do them. Those who have headaches sometimes, if you will do all the times this sūtra netī or water netī, we will have the problem gone away, headache. Now, in this also, the prāṇāyāma: inhale with the left nostril, inhale and exhale only with the left nostril, and the right nostril from outside, just give a little pressure from your nose so that only air goes from the left nostril. Let us say about 14 times. Then we close the left nostril, and we inhale and exhale only with the right nostril. Then, for one minute or two minutes, normal breath. Again, with the nostril, left, 15 times, and then 15 times on the right side. This is very nice; this is called cleaning of the nostrils. So this is called the prāṇāyāma of this cleaning. Then inhale through the left and exhale from the right. So inhale left and exhale right. Inhale left, exhale right. After 14 times, then for 1 minute, 2 minutes, normal breath. And then for our right side, inhale with the right nostril and exhale from the left nostril. Also, inhale, exhale left. Inhale right, exhale left. Fourteen times. And then again, one, two minutes relax. If you have time, because it is easily half an hour. So then inhale through left, exhale through right, inhale through right, exhale through left. There will be a great, great release of our headache. It is said that our eyes will be very good, so this is very, very good. So, anuloma viloma, this is prāṇāyāma, left, right, left, right, like this. It’s called the first only breath, left and right; that’s called just inhale, exhale, breath. Anuloma viloma and nāḍī śodhana. So first is the nāḍī śodhana. So nāḍī is the nostril and opening, cleaning the nostril. This way, and you should all have the "Yoga in Daily Life" book, and many, many about prāṇas. We should read this. So these are the very best techniques which we can have. Then there is another one called Brahmārī. The Brahmārī is a very, very nice technique. For example, some people have all day some kind of sound in the brain, tinnitus, and that can release our problems. There are three techniques for our ears. We will come tomorrow with all these techniques. And then we have a time for our prayer, so we had two prayers. Then, called Stuti. So after that, we have the prayers, and then we are also making praṇāms, and this is also our prasāda. So we have completed two parts of the prayer, and now comes the third part, which is also a prayer. Oṁ Namaste Śrī Guru Dev Purīṣa Dayālaṁ Oṁ. We know all very good. Namaste. We bow down to Śrī Guru Dev. Guru Dev Purīṣa. Dev Purīṣa. Guru Dev Purīṣī. Dayālam, dayālam means merciful. Nijānanda, nijānanda is the Ganesha. Nijānanda is Ganesha. Ānanda is the giver of bliss, ānanda is the giver of bliss. Māyā, mother ānanda, māyā. So māyā means not only the, how do you call? It is illusion, but it’s not illusion. It’s like a mother, the holy mother, nijānanda māyāke ālam, and so ālam. Ālam is a very beautiful, good name in that, also blessing. Svarīraṃ akhaṇḍa hari rūpa jāse. So svarīraṃ body, akhaṇḍa eternal, hari Viṣṇu, rūpa that is form, jāse. So it is like Bhagavān, Rūpa, Viṣṇu. Atītam, endless. Anādi, also beyond. Nirākār, there is no border. Bhāṣe, till that. Om Namaste Sri Gurudev. Purīṣa dayālam, nija ānand, ānand maya ke alam, śarīram akhaṇḍahārī rūpa jase, atītam anādi nirākar bhāse, om śānti, śānti, śānti. Tomorrow we will continue. Have a nice evening, my dears. And have a good evening. Deep Nārāyaṇ Bhagavān. Devājī Dev, Devīśvara Mahādevakī, Halakpurījī Mahādevakī, Satguru Swāmī Madhavānandajī Bhagavānakī Jai, Om Śānti, Śānti,... Om, Om Śānti, Om Śānti, Om Śānti. Viśvakuru Mahāmaṇḍala, Īśvara Paramahaṁsa Śrī Svāmī, Vaheśvarānanda jī, Kuru Deva, Kī Jai. Good?
