Follow your Gurudev

The Guru is the singular, indispensable lamp.

Understanding the Guru's nature comes only in his absence. While present, his light is taken for granted. He traveled widely, visiting many saints and places, yet his devotion remained solely with his lineage. He transformed barren land into an ashram. His constant practice was singing bhajans and giving lectures about his masters. The teaching environment must be kept purely for spiritual matters, avoiding negativity. The Guru's strictness was part of his grace. His physical presence embodied a great spiritual personality. The ultimate truth is that everything is the Guru's grace.

"When the lamp is here, we don't look at the lamp."

"All is Mādhāvānandajī."

Filming location: Jadan, Rajasthan, India

Premanājī knew what the Gurujī is. What is the Gurujī? It is like when many mangoes fall, and many other things happen. He went to the Himalayas and stayed there for one or two months. We have seen many sādhus there, very good sādhus, note this. Even in the Himalayas, Sivananda was there; Holy Gurujī was with him many times. Many people went to different places and teachers. But Holy Gurujī was respectful to all, yet his devotion was to his Mālā, to Mahāprabhujī and Devapurījī. When he walked here in our ashram—this was about 30 years ago now—there was nothing here before; it was just barren land, only "nipples" were there. In Gujarat, Gurujī had a beautiful ashram with many, many, many people. Gujarat was full of Gurujī's devotees. Gurujī told me many times, "Let's go for one or two months to Gujarat. I want to bring your disciples." I said, "Next time, next time." I was with Holy Gurujī in Gujarat before I was a sannyāsī. I had no beard or anything. I was living alone in a forest village in Gujarat, though now it is like a city. So Holy Gurujī went, sat there, and I was alone. Yes, there were many things in that. I saw that Gurujī was all the time singing Mahāprabhujī's bhajans and mantras, and always giving lectures. All the time the words were of Mahāprabhujī, Devapurījī, Mahāprabhujī. Such was the greatness of our Mahāprabhujī and our Satguru Svāmī Madhavānandajī. When somebody is with us, we say "Okay" and "No" and things like that. But on the day when Gurujī went to the Brahmaloka, then suddenly we thought, "Oh my God, that lamp is gone." When the lamp is here, we don't look at the lamp. We see everything, this and that. But someone who sees that lamp, what is that lamp? That lamp is our beloved. And what is our beloved? Our Gurudev. There is only one Guru. Others have their Gurus, and they are also good. But not changing this and that. Then it means it is nothing. Holy Gurujī in Gujarat would visit many, many sādhus who were there, and I went with Gurujī to many sādhus. At that time, I was not a sādhu. When I came back from Europe, I was there for one or two months, and so on. So, we can understand everything after that. This place, this umbrella under which we are sitting—we should have that. Under this umbrella or in this meditation hall, one should not talk about anything negative. Don't talk negative, don't bring in other things, only spiritual matters. If you are trying to go here and there, asking "Can I be?" or "Let's go" or "Let's talk," then you have lost your whole life. Today I was here, as I am every day and forever. I was alone, but then somebody comes and sits with me—Premā or Pulporīs or Chandra Porīs—and I feel it, because exactly where Ādi Gurujī was sitting, there is the environment, the energies. It is still very new; it is about 9, 29... 9 years, 18 years. Only 18 years. So if you have not left, if you did not understand, if you did, you lost it. I was today... Gurujī, maybe I lost something, but always Gurujī said, "Don't look into them, Jyotiṣ. All for you is free, day and night, Māheś. You are everywhere, but still, if we could not remain here, lost." When we go to the holy places—what we call the holy, holy, holy temples, the Himalayas, everywhere, Svayambhūs, Jyotirliṅgas—these are everywhere, very good. That's very good. But for us, everything is what Gurujī said. He said, "All is Mādhāvānandajī." Gurujī said, "Mahāprabhujī's." All is here. All is here. But, of course, we should go and see everywhere. Why not? Holy Gurujī said so. But wherever I am, there is Mahāprabhujī's, Holy Gurujī said. He sees, he feels, he knows. And many devotees, tomorrow you will speak. Our Premanājī, he will tell us. That will be great if he can tell us, because I want to write something. Maybe Premanājī will. Tell all, and that will go in my book. If he will do it, everything—how was it there? Yes, throw the stone on it. But what was it he said? "I want to make you solid." That's it. He left Pitholī Gurujī a very long time ago, traveling through many, many countries and villages, in India and many other places. So here, when you are coming here, and you lost that love of your ātmā, which you were cultivating for so long, and suddenly you lost that... There will be a story where the Gurujī taught. Sometimes I will tell you again tomorrow, maybe. And so, when he is in the atmosphere, Gurujī was touching all of this. How he was coming in the door, and what he was doing there—it was a great personality. And now you see, the holy Guru is this exactly, exactly Holy Gurujī's position. And his body, exactly everything, what was even in his arms—yes, great. Whoever made this, it was great. Everything, each and everything, really. Who has seen that Gurujī? And now also you can see it is like that. So all devotees coming here or there, they see it is some personality of spiritualities. And Gurujī was also very strict, but not like this. Yes, it was okay. But when he was... Holy Gurujī was like angry. Others were so happy. Now Gurujī has now understood me. I was doing. Others are like this, and so this whole land is here. And some of Holy Gurujī's devotees, he gave this land, and that way, land. It was sold, you can say, let's say, for 24 or 25 euros, the whole land. Yeah. Anyhow, so Guru Kṛpā, Guru Kṛpā hi kevalam. What did Gurujī say? Guru Kṛpā. What did Gurujī say? Guru Kṛpā. Hi, Kevlam Śiṣya Ke Ānanda Maṅgalam. Ānanda Maṅgalam. So, give a nice... This bhajan of Holy Gurujī is beautiful. Thank you.
