The Nabhi

The many paths of yoga converge like rivers into one ocean. Respect all ways of practice. The science of yoga is vast, yet we must understand our own body. The navel, or Nābhi, is the root. A problem there affects the whole system. To progress, one must bring the body under control through proper diet and awareness. Overweight individuals should eat lightly, focusing on salads and seeds, to achieve balance over time. Practice feeling the movement and vibration at the navel. This awareness is the foundation for meditation and self-knowledge. True practice begins from this root, balancing the physical to access deeper states. The sound of OM originates from the navel, rising through the channels to the crown. Balance in the body leads to balance in consciousness.

"Yoga is yoga, but which kind of yoga? It is like this gathering: some have come from the East, some from the West, and all who have come via different paths have seen many different things."

"The navel is the root. Everything is there. When there is a problem with the navel, the whole body will die."

Om Eśvarāya, Puruṣākṣāya, Parabrahmane, Tasmai Śrī, Gurave Namaḥ, Dhyānamūlam, Guror Mūrtiḥ, Pūjāmūlam, Gurupādam, Mantramūlam, Guror Vākyaṃ, Mokṣamūlam, Guror Kṛpā. Om, Alakhpurījī, Mahādevakī, Jaya, Devādideva, Devapurīṣa, Mahādevakī, Jaya. Good evening, dear sisters, brothers, and yogīs. Yoga teachers around the whole world, welcome to all of you. When I speak about Yoga in Daily Life, or yoga itself, it includes all yogīs, all yoga teachers, all different gurus, their yoga centers, their ashrams, and whatever name they give to their yoga. It is all okay. We are all together. It is very beautiful, full of colors, with different yoga teachers and yogīs speaking of "their yoga, their yoga, their yoga." It is like this city where we are, with its river. How many people, how many names, how many houses, how many things. People come here and see it is one very beautiful city. Therefore, we should practice yoga. Yoga is yoga, but which kind of yoga? It is like this gathering: some have come from the East, some from the West, and all who have come via different paths have seen many different things. So in this, we must truly understand, respect, and honor everyone's way of practice. From the ocean, water evaporates. It is already in the sky—very heavy, but controlled there—and this water will come down again. The drops collect, flow into little streams, and slowly, slowly come into one river. All names are there. But when all this water comes near the ocean, then there are no other names, only "ocean." So many yogīs, many yogas, teachers, and students are like this. Yet, once we come to Brahmaloka, meaning we enter into cosmic life, it is different. Yesterday I was speaking, and again this morning, and now I am here. Tomorrow I will be somewhere else. There is a bird on the house. We see the beautiful bird, but we do not know which direction it flew. I am also that bird. Where will I fly? But where? With you, I leave something for you, and it will be like my nest. I may come again. We have practiced a lot together over many years; for some it has been months, or a few days, or just today. The science of yoga is very, very wide. All in all, all in one and one in all, let us speak of our Self: what are you, or me? Only one hand? Two hands? Fingers? Many, many things—the whole body. As I said, we are in the ocean. We are an ocean, but where? So from here, today I will tell you something. It is called the Nābhi. The Nābhi is the root. Everything is there. When there is a problem with the navel, the whole body will die. Many people have a disease or a very powerful problem with the nābhi. Doctors try very hard, but they may say, "This will not survive." There can be cancer in many different parts of the body; we can take medicine and live for some years. But when it is attached to the navel, even though doctors try, it may be lost. So try to learn and see exactly the Nābhi. Therefore, in yoga, we do what we do: standing in the morning, practicing. Why? Because of the nābhi. We have to feel and touch it; there is a movement coming up and down. But some of us do not know where our nābhi is. Where has the nābhi been pulled? We wear a belt. Yes, we are in a belt. The belt is at the Nābhi. Nābhi. First, you should bring your body under control. Otherwise, you will not progress. And when you are so heavy, when you die, it is also very hard to lift you up. So if you want health and a good, long life, then put down your heaviness. This means we have not understood our body and our food. Can we digest or not? If not, then it is not right. Still, life needs many things, so try to bring your life forward in a healthy way. If you have too much weight in your stomach, you will not die. If you do not eat for one month, the body... okay, drink water, liquids, fruits, many things. Then you will see what your nābhi is. There are many people in the world, and see you too. Are we all yogīs here? My God, you are very nice. Some have a little more to hear; wait. Because they are balancing. We are not dynamic here like this. So one is on that corner, one is on that corner, like an ocean. And there is what is called a very big mountain; yes, that mountain is balancing us. But when an earthquake comes, it can also pull out. So, the nābhi. Those who are overweight, from today, begin. Eat until your stomach is completely full, but with what? Salad—good salad, seeds, many seeds, a little oil, salad, and then a little bread. That is enough. Water, not too much milk, not too much yogurt, no chocolates—that's everything. Eat like this, and then at least in two years, bring your body into good shape. If you say, "Now I will not eat, and I will do that," that is not good. And here is the ocean. So swim, swim, swim. Drink a lot of, a lot of... a lot of what? Salad. And we have to do Sarvahitāsana. Those who have so much weight cannot practice anything. And when we want to move forward, we cannot. Yes, and many can put a leg here, oh my God, and sometimes I could say, hmm... So I speak to my body, and it is nearly 60 years... days? No, years, months. Eat, eat, eat good food, but no cheese, no butter. Oh God, take the butter out. Butter is the mother's food. So have butter for you or for us, just like two olives. For little children, it is okay. Also, a little oil. Anyhow, if you truly want to become a yogī and go to Brahmaloka or similar, and if you really want to become a yogī... but our body? The body is nothing. But without the body, there is nothing. Yes. Take care of our body; we are in a human body now. It is said God has given it to us. "I gave you all. I told you this and this." And now we say we know everything, as if we are God. And that is why so many will fall down, and how many will go to Brahmaloka? You are so many here, but you are in some big country, and from big countries we have to search. Where are some people? So sit straight. Sedica Romney was a problem, and then your thumb in the wash palates the time. And who is translating you? He is translating, and he is showing how to do it, yes. So, and then go like that. What is this? This is the best to wear. Touch your navel, and now feel how the navel is moving. Now we will give you a little practice, but you have to do what I am telling you. Lie down on your back. I will do nothing wrong. You have to feel this; we have to feel this. Is it practical? But there are some who have more weight. I need balance for us. Very good. No pillow, no pillow on the head. Yes, and now your feet should be straight. Can you see your toes? Raise your head. How many toes do you have? Thank you. Now, my dear, take five deep inhales and exhales. Now, place your right or left thumb on your navel. Exhale, hold the breath, and feel the beat of the navel. You see the beat of the navel. Hey, thank you. Breathe normally, but let your thumb remain there. Now, deep inhale. Hold the breath and press your navel. Press your navel. Now exhale. Exhale. Inhale and control the breath. Nābhi. Nābhi. You can breathe normally, but please try to see, feel your nābhi, how it is. Place your hands beside you. Breathe normally. Now again, with the thumb on the navel, see which side is vibrating: left side, right side, the down side, or in the navel itself. Breathe normally, then exhale. Hold the breath and feel in which direction the movement is. On the other side, you will always have problems in your stomach and everything. Breathe normally, and now place your hands beside the body and try to sense how many kilos you have in your body. Now raise your body about one foot in height. The whole body, the whole body lifts. No, all right, come up. So from today on: salad, salad. Now is the salad time. But not only salad—many different seeds: watermelon, sūryam, semol, flowers, many, many different seeds. Okay, my dears, again sit in a good position. Sit straight and feel your navel. If you are pregnant, do not do this. This is not a technique or an exercise; we only want to come to our right place. And there, when we were doing that, the navel is there—leave it free. And like this, with mudrās, palms up or on your knees, now listen and hear the breath from the nābhi. Yes, inhalation and exhalation begin from the navel. This is very, very best for our body to practice, to come into real meditation, and also to know thyself. Take it back, open your eyes, relax your arms, and we shall see. When we chant OM, from where does OM come? It comes from the navel. In our language, Sanskrit, there are 52 letters. We shall begin with OM chanting. So concentrate on the nābhi. Go up, no, no... From there, it will awaken the sound. So now, with your left or right hand, touch your nābhi. Deep inhale, but do not move the navel. You are going to the hole in your brain. It is not moving, no? This means the whole OM chanting. Generally, we take only three sounds. We say three vowels in general. But this is not complete from the navel. No vibration, no sound, no movements. There is no movement. We are going from the navel through the whole of our brain, coming to Sahasrāra Cakra. So, from the Nābhi, then to the middle of the Nābhi and heart. Then, coming into the heart. Then, coming to the vocal cords, then coming up into the Bindu Cakra, coming again further to the Sahasrāra, coming to the nostrils out, and controlling there. So, all Kuṇḍalinī cakras from there until that point are always going from the navel. Other cakras down from the nābhi are below, but they are holding what we call the... what was it this morning? Vajranāḍī. Therefore, downward we must have a strong Vajranāḍī. We will chant OM now. So, chant this OM nine times. From the navel, feel the vibration from the navel to the Sahasrāra Cakra. Then we will do it three times and bite your teeth. Close your lips, and from both sides, balance at that time. It should not be on one side or the other side of our brain. Close your eyes, and from your fingers, close inside the ear three times. See the balance of both hemispheres. How is that? Where is the sound going? One side more, or the other side more? Inhale. Balance the sound in both hemispheres. Hands down. Who was balancing? Very balanced, both sides. Hands up. Thank you. And those on both sides, but this side was more, then you try to control the other side, and like this. Who was that? Yes, so we have to balance. So how to do this? We will do it now. Our lips are together, but they should be far? Not bite, but relaxed. Our jaw should be a little relaxed, but the lips are good. Now we will see how the sound is, fingers out. How was it when your jaw was relaxed, lips were closed, fingers were in ears, and what was the balance of both hemispheres? Who has full balance? Can you raise your hands? Thank you. And who could not? A few also cannot. So we have to balance ourselves. And it is too long. Next time, or in the next seminar, I am anywhere. You will always listen to Swamiji TV. So now, through the Nāḍī balance, through both hemispheres. That is a little bit difficult, but we are on the path. So you have to lose some more kilos, and someone has to gain more weight. Yes, it has a balance. So, from the navel, now you will do it again, and we will close our eyes like this. Listen, listen. And then from the navel, we will say OM three times. How will the balanced sound go in both hemispheres? From the navel, deep inhale. Relax your fingers, close your eyes. From navel to sahasrāra, close your eyes and try to think. If you have done it, how was it? I will learn this in about one month, two months. I will say Om for two months. Hari Om. Dīrgha Nayan Bhagavān Kī Jaya. Alakhpurījī Mātā Devī Kī Jaya. Satguru Mādhavānandajī Bhagavān Kī Jaya. Satguru Swāmī Mādhavānandajī Bhagavān Kī Jaya.
