Morning Yoga and Prāṇāyāma Practice

Today's practice is prāṇāyāma and meditation. Sit comfortably, straight yet relaxed, as the meal is only partly digested. Close your eyes in meditation posture. Bring your mantra to mind, with or without a mālā. Feel the inner self; meditation is not for the outside. Become aware of the breath energy moving like oxygen throughout the body. Place the left index and middle fingers, close the right nostril with the thumb, inhale left, exhale. Do not count; then place the hand on the thigh and concentrate on the breath flowing from navel to bhrūmadhya. Now use the ring finger to close the left nostril, inhale right, exhale, feeling the breath from navel to bindu. Come to Vajrāsana, lift the knees and toes, eyes open, focused on a fixed point. Again in Vajrāsana, bend back with hands behind, eyes open. Return to normal meditation posture. Practice alternate nostril breathing: inhale left, exhale right; inhale right, exhale left; and several cycles. Lie down, relax deeply, then stretch and sit up. Sit in Vajrāsana, letting Vajranāḍī keep the body straight. For Bhramarī, press the ears with the index fingers, inhale from the navel, produce the humming sound with loose teeth and empty mouth. Observe the resonance in the brain. Finally, chant Oṁ five times from navel to Brahma cakra, bow to the divine.

"Meditation is not for the outside. This is for our inner self."

"Feel that your breath goes from the navel to the tilaka, and exhale from there to the navel."

Nāhaṁ Karatā Prabhudīp Karatā Mahāprabhudīp Karatā He Kevalam. This is a spiritual lecture about Yoga in the Indian tradition. Hariḥ Om, good morning, dear sisters and brothers, all our yoga teachers and yoga students, and all those living a life of yoga around the whole world. This is a beautiful day today. Ārāḍe Bhagavān Śrī Devpurīśa Mahādeva Kī Jaya, Ārāḍe Bhagavān Śrī Mahāprabhudīpa Kī Jaya, Ho Satguru Svāmī Madhavānandajī Bhagavān Kī Jaya, Ho Alakhpurījī Mahādeva Kī Jaya. Today begins your seminar. Yesterday we all came together. We were thinking, talking, doing bhajans, bhajans, everything. And now this, until the next days. Our sādhanā means our practice. And now we are all here, those who are in Anuṣṭhāna and also other practitioners and karma yogīs, all are with us. So that they also can learn many things from this, our two lectures, before morning on this side, and in the evenings. I hope that you had a very nice program this morning. You had a nice place. The night was also very good, I hope. And if you have no discomfort, please tell us. We will give you something new. So, I am so happy to see you. And now we will begin our practice. So, let’s say first we are coming again with the mantra. And our mantra should be, with a mālā or without a mālā, should be in our mind—our mantra. So you can take off your mask. We have enough oxygen; all windows are open. And if someone feels there is little space, you can come here. A lot of people can sit here, and on this side also. Sit in a very comfortable posture. You can sit in the Vajrāsana, or in many, many sitting postures, as we are sitting. But through our body, our body should be sitting straight. But also not too strict, so that you are not comfortable. But you should not do it so precisely that you will not feel comfortable. Very relaxed, very comfortable. This is very important, and because your breakfast was here, but it is only two and a half hours. But still, we have to know that in the stomach, we are still not digested at all. So, sit comfortably. And we should sit straight. We should not fall forward. Then we are pressing the stomach. There are two; it’s not good. So, close your eyes. Meditation posture. Sit comfortably, straight, your mālā mantra, without mālā or with mālā, or Mahāprabhujī’s Ashram Hall. Feel, see, happy that we are in our hall, in our āśram, and we are aware of our Gurudev, Mahāprabhujī, Devpurījī, Holī Gurujī. I am here. I am awakened. I am clear. Just become yourself, so comfortable and so good in thinking and feelings. That’s very important. It is very important to have these elements in ourselves. Meditation is not for the outside. This is for our inner self. And now, bring your energy into the whole body. That energy is like oxygen within your body. The oxygen is coming in and out, and from out and in. Śaṅkha, and then again breath, exhalation. Be aware. If you want to open your eyes, open them. But look to thyself. And now, from the left hand, bring two fingers—index and middle finger—and with the thumb, close the right nostril, left in. We will breathe with the left nostril. Lift up the right hand, index finger and middle finger to the center of the forehead, and with the thumb we will close the right nostril. Then we will inhale deeply and exhale. Do not count. I will call when you can sit. Place your hand on your thigh. Concentration in your prāṇa, prāṇāyāma. Put your hands on your thighs, feel your breath. Now, with this breath, inhale and exhale from the navel. How many times could you do mantra? Inhale and exhale right from both nostrils. Breath between the navel and the bhrūmadhya. Here, between both knees, the eyebrows. From the navel to the Ājñā Cakra. Again, both fingers, the index and middle finger. Ring fingers come to the left nostril. Inhale and exhale with the right nostril. Without counting, it goes through from the navel to the bindu, between both nostrils. The breath flows comfortably from the navel to the tilaka, bindu, and cakra. And now, place your hand on the knee. And Vajrāsana. And now, from Vajrāsana, bring up your toes and knees. Eyes open. Eyes open. The knees up. Of course, someone has a problem; it must not be. Anywhere on a fixed point, somewhere. Legs a little apart. Eyes are open, but concentrate on one point somewhere. And again, sit in Vajrāsana. Place your hands on the back side. Vajrāsana, sit in Vajrāsana, and bend to the back side, eyes open. And now, come again to the normal posture for meditation. Again, both fingers, index and middle finger, at the tilaka point. Inhale through the left nostril. Exhale through the right nostril. Inhale from the left. Exhale from the right, inhale from the left. Exhale right. Thumb and ring finger for closing and opening our nostrils. So go ahead, feel comfortable, but in this position, breathe in. And exhale left, inhale and right. Exhale left, inhale and right side. Right, exhale. Place your right hand on your thigh or knee. Normal breath. We breathe normally. Again, bring both fingers to the tilaka. And inhale through the right, exhale through the left. Inhale right, exhale left. Fingers on the tilaka. Feel that your breath goes from the navel to the tilaka, and exhale from there to the navel. Going through different right to left. Right to left. Śāstrī Yedame, Nādhī Prabhu, Vīdhī Lhavu. Deep inhale from the right nostril, exhale with the left, and then place your hand down. And now, again, both fingers: inhale through left, exhale through right, inhale through right, exhale through left. Inhale through the left nostril, exhale through the right, inhale through the right, exhale through the left. Nāḍī Nāḍī Prabhu, Nāḍī Lhavu, Nāḍī Prabhu, Nāḍī Prabhu, Nāḍī Lhavu. The left, inhale; right, exhale; inhale, right; and then exhale, left. Then hand down. Now, lie down, head towards me. Relax, very comfortable. Relax, relax. Inhale and exhale, deepen your breath. Then stretch your hands; the whole body is stretching left and right. And sit up. Sit in Vajrāsana. Now you know that, you know, last about three days. For four days, Vajranāḍī goes through our whole body. Vajranāḍī is keeping our whole body straight. Now, we have been practicing Brahmrī Sādhanā. Pramrī sound with both index fingers, we put in our ears and straight with our thumbs and our shoulders, arms are straight like this side. So in this way, inhale from the navel and the sound of Brahmrī. Our teeth should be loose, but don’t feel the air in our mouth. It should be empty. If you keep the air in your mouth, then it will not go exactly into both of our hemispheres. So, inhale. Both hands again on the thighs. Close your eyes and listen, or see, or feel how it is in your brain. Five times oṁ from the navel to the Brahma cakra. Deep inhale from the navel. For the fair hands, we go down to Gurudev, Alakhpurījī, Devpurījī, Mahāprabhujī, Holī Gurujīs, praṇām, Hari Om.
