Stories are within you

Surrender to the guru is the path to grace, and stories are vessels for truth.

We are not the doer; all action belongs to the guru. We surrender our capacity at the holy feet. An object, like carved stone, is transformed through consecration and placement upon the altar; it becomes divine through worship. Offer what you can from inner devotion. The guru's grace precedes our birth, and there are many true gurus. Do not judge them. A story was told of a poor man who asked a great sage four questions but was given only three answers for others' problems. By selflessly conveying the solutions—which revealed treasure and led to a marriage—his own poverty was resolved. Your word has power; speak with care, for what you declare takes form. Truth resides within, and a story is that inner store of experience. Learn through crafting tales from your own life.

"First, give your answers. And he said, 'Only three questions.' And these three were the answer for your fourth."

"The story is in you. So every day before going to sleep, have a story for yourself."

Hari Om! Everybody! Good morning! And a beautiful day! Nāhaṁ kartā, prabuddhip kartā, mahāprabuddhip kartā hi kevalam. "Nāhaṁ kartā" means we are not the doer. We cannot do it. If we think we do, then it may be confusing. So we give it with both our hands; we surrender it at the holy feet of Mahāprabhujī. Gurujī, I am not capable. Therefore, I give you all that you said, all also to Mahāprabhujī’s, Devapurījī’s, Holy Gurujī’s. So, Guru Kṛpāhi Kīvalaṁ Śiṣyāki Ānandamaṅgalaṁ. Then, if we have given to the Holy Feet, then we have no more problems. It is that One who will do. When we make statues or pictures or something, at that time we are working. But before the temple or the ashram or the church, etc., when we place God’s statues or photos there, they are not only paper or stone. When we go to the church, many people, when they enter, on the right side there is water. This is holy water. What means that water? For me, I think that Jesus also got the blessings from his guru and said to this water, "Holy water." And this holy font is placed in a high position. I have always seen it on the right side when we enter the church. And many, they are going on their knees. Some even have problems with their knees, but many people are going. But of course, they said, "Please, don’t. You have problems with your knees, so just you can go like this." So when we make a temple, or church, or ashram, and then we bring our god, or whatever, to the altar, and then we perform pūjā, then they are above us; they are the highest of all four altars. Before, we were not. They bring a very big stone, and there was a person. He is carving; he is sitting on the stone with his leg, hand, and foot. He is holding on there, and he is carving. And he, what is that? What is that called? A cigarette? And putting it on the stone, because it is a stone. But when everything is done, we give the colors or no colors, then we are bringing it to a high place. And there is the ashram, or church, or your house, or somewhere on the farm, etc. And when we put it on the high place and we make prayer, we call it pūjā. Then that stone became the highest god. And the person who was carving this, he was sitting on it, but when all of it was there, then it came to the holy place. At that time, that person fell down at the holy feet of Mahāprabhujī, and from that, we all bowed to that side. So we should worship that. Do what you can from your inner devotion. We give them flowers. Some are going to donate money to the statues or guru. This is the tradition. Then you get more and more. It is said, if you get one dollar, then that God will give you billions. But have you this heart? Do you feel like this, to give something? Or do we think, "Yeah, everybody is doing okay, I give you also"? We are all giving some flowers to wife or husband, mother, father, our doctors, our teacher. Teacher means the guru. There are many gurus. So, the guru is coming already before you were in your mother’s body. That was that God also came to the mother’s body, and the mother became that as the child, and then we were worshipping. And so, there is everything coming. Then after that is the spiritual guru, and there are many gurus. Many, many. Don’t think that my guru is not good. Why do you look at that? He is not good. When you inhale, then as you have inhaled this oxygen, through exhaling you are expanding and putting negativity out. Don’t think that some guru will read you many things and give the lectures. Maybe more satsangs; someone, they don’t do anything. We have one sādhu between our Jadan and Nipal, and we are going from Jadan to Nipal. That is the path, and there is one sādhu. He is from some different part of India, and that sādhu’s name is also not taking anything, nothing. Anyone comes, he doesn’t take anything. And he has a little, like our cottage in the Gaga Park, and he has only yogurt or the milk in him, and people are in line to give him, "I want to give him yogurt or this," and he is also cleaning everything. And no money coming. The people made him a big ashram. Many people come. They bring milk and this. He tells you, "You drink, you eat, I don’t." And now, on Guru Pūrṇimā, it was about more than 3,000 people for darśan only. He has nothing, little cloth. Nothing, he is only sitting. That is something. But whatever you give them, yogurt, ghee, everything, give further. But you have to give so only his eyes looking to him. For Holy Gurujī said, Mahāprabhujī, only once my eyes look on you some second, there is more than enough for us. Guru Dev Kripa Drśya. Drśya means vision. So there are many, many gurus, many, many. Don’t think there are only two or three, and all gurus to gurus, they should be like brothers. He said, "You are my God," and he said, "No, no, I’m God." Like this. And many are not like this. This is only that, that’s all. So, thousands we don’t know, maybe one that is real, like Alak Purījī, Dev Purījī, Mahāprabhujī. And look, Mahāprabhujī’s statues—Mahāprabhujī is not a statue. Mahāprabhujī is himself here. We give to Mahāprabhujī anything: fruits, flowers, cloth, money. In Mahāprabhujī gives all everything back, but what he can give you that back, that is the miracles or the good things that we can do. Yesterday, or my night, I sleep, I don’t. Sleep, I practice, I don’t practice, so every day before going to sleep, I see something on my phone, and there is what we call Facebook. So, what is happening? Always, where? What is happening? Everything, yes? So there is something between. Something came for a very great old woman, and the government’s president is giving her something. This is—I cannot tell you—but it is a great, great person, a lady. She’s a very old lady; I don’t know how. They, what they are talking, I have no time to see Narendra Modijī’s international with the Nari Shakti. So, anyhow, it is another thing, okay? So there are many things that we are talking about. So I was sitting there, and one sādhu was giving satsaṅg. It was midnight. I slept a little bit. I woke up. I went to the bathroom. I am looking at this machine. My always open, and from many, many different countries around the world, if someone has an urgent need and they need my help, I will put off my telephone. And in the morning, I will open between that one dies. So guru, mā, and mother, 24 hours with the child. Father is okay. He goes to sleep, then in the kitchen. But of course, father is also, but you know, the mother’s child is blood, heart, all. But without the father, she is also not the mother. So always the father said, "I am." She said, "OK." But first, we said, "Mātṛ Devo Bhava." First is the mother. The father is sitting, looking. Then, "Mātṛ Devo Bhava." Then, father’s guru also, the father, "Mātṛ Devo Bhava," father. We also, so it goes like that. So, one sādhu yesterday, and I know him very well, and his Gurujī. He was very close to me and to Mahāprabhujī Gurujī, but a few years ago, that one died today, Sadhu. He told me always when I... He’s from Jainas, Sadhu. When he... When I came to India, he got a message. Then he said my name. He said, "Come to me here." And he said, "Now stay only in India, don’t go out. I will come next time again. When I come next day again, I am with him there." He said, "Now you stay, I will." So, of course, very great people, sādhus are sādhus, so he knows about Mahāprabhujī’s, Holy Gurujī’s, and now his disciple. He, I know him also. And he took the chair of his Guru, and he was talking. So there are two kinds of talk. Some people are talking from some books: Bhagavad Gītā, Rāmāyaṇa, etc. All, many, many. And we know. We are also learning, and we know, but then we give such a language so that everyone can understand. So I was sitting there on my bed for one hour, and I was listening. Because such things are like gold. Sleep, I’ve got whole life, many lives come, go, do, everything well, my time is going. So he came and gave a lecture, and there are about 100, 200, 1000 people coming, listening. So he gave one story, and I can tell. You, our children, always, if they want to come through in your school, college, university, everything, with some kind of such a talk, like stories, you will be through story. If you want to speak about some science or anything, and what has to be done, and how this and that, science. So many students make it their one story. The same thing they ask, writing letters and thinking, and this and like this, yeah? And the next day, you don’t forget. But one made every story. Everybody who can learn this, send your child, "What is the subject today? What is that you learned?" Okay, I make you a story from this, father said, or a mother, or a Gurujī. And you will get what you want. That is so. The story was like this: there was a farmer, a person. Will you dance? A lot: father, mother, and great father, mother, their mother, their children. They are married also, two, three brothers, three sisters. But they are all so poor, you cannot imagine. They don’t know what we will eat in the evening; before that, we can eat something to sleep. No money. They don’t know what to do. Yes, there are many people. So, one day one sādhu came and said, "I am very poor, and this and that," he said. So he says, "You should go to one sādhu." Great sādhu. So what can I do? You should go to that one sādhu, and he will give you everything. So he had to go a long distance, so he stayed three times somewhere, sleeping somewhere, and to go to that, he was a very poor person who was going. And he stopped in the evening, and he stayed there. So he said, "There was a farmer, and they were poor also." They have little land, but in the middle of the land, there is nothing growing. So he said, "We don’t know." He said, "I don’t know." They don’t know. Can you tell where you are going? Please tell, why can we not have great growing in my garden? He said, "I will say, ’Don’t forget.’" Okay. Then he went to the second day. Then he said, also said, "I have some problems, and what to do? You go to tell Gurujī there, please tell that my knowledge," or something he told, I forgot now. And then there was the third one. There was one very nice family. But they had one girl, and she didn’t speak. She doesn’t speak at all. So that man was there. He was there in the evening, and they said, "Where are you going? There is one Gurujī, very great." And he gives everything. So I will go there. Please, can you say it to that God or Guru? I have my daughter. She doesn’t speak. She is a beautiful one, and she doesn’t speak, so she doesn’t marry. Please, can you tell Gurujī? Was there? Okay, I will get there. And then he went to the Gurujī. There were thousands of people there. My God, when will come my name, number? So one day, second day, in that line, he was, he came, so he said. That sadhu, oh, you came. You came now. What do you want? That makes time for your questions. And my disciples, they will call you when I am there. A very poor man, don’t know where to go, where to sleep, very poor. But there was in the ashram, there Gurujī put many, much, everybody, so he was eating. And luckily, after two days, one of the disciples came and said, "Gurujī has called me tomorrow." On this time, so he came five minutes before. And he said to the Gurujī, "I am very poor, and so and so." Easy, but what is it that you want? What do you want to say? Well, I have five, four questions. Okay. So one was there, said, one farmer has a little land, but in the center of the land, nothing is growing. So he said, "That will be." What will you say? He said, "I will tell you, you should dig something." Then it went further, because for a lesson he said, so three was that, and fourth was himself. So he taught only three, and Gurujī said, "I give you only three answers." Well, there was this girl who could not speak. So he said, "That will come." Third or second? There was no growing. There are many, many treasures inside: gold and this and that. And in the third, it was that that girl, she doesn’t speak. And he said, "Are you married?" Gurujī said, "I am not married. You will get a very beautiful girl very soon, before going on the path." So he was answering, "You should always go to the Guru’s sādhus, and there everything will be there." You can go. He said, "Oh, my God." I gave three answers for others, and for me, I didn’t say anything. I am poor. No one can marry me because we are very poor, and where can we get any money or something? Go. So he goes. So first he went there and he dug. He went to the farmer. The farmer said, "What answer do you give?" Said, in the middle of there, you dig something. So they were digging about one meter or two meters, and it came so much gold and many, many things. The farmer cannot bring where to get. So, farmer, they said, "My friend, you questioned the Gurujī, and Gurujī said that you should dig here." Something came, a big treasure with many, many gold and many, many things. Your whole big village and many villages, all you can give them, they will all be happy. And the last one. There was gold and everything, so that girl was laughing, "This is my husband." So he married, and when he went there, he got his kismet, something, what he said. So, when someone asks you, and you give... The answer first to them. First, give your answers. And he said, "Only three questions." And these three were the answer for your fourth. The answer is yours because you are now a great man, a very, very great man, very great, the whole family. Yes, so the third question was, there was one sādhu also there, and he asked some question to them. So when he came back, he said, "Those are the questions of the sādhus." They will not give; they have no money, nothing. But in their word, in their mouth, what they say, it will be that. Therefore, think very carefully. It is said that whatever you speak mentally, if you talk about this—that this is not a good sādhu or this—then it will also become nothing. So what we all, there may be negative things inside, but answers should always be good, even if someone is very bad, and this also. We can give them an answer that will be good. So, these are the great sādhus. They are doing in there what they said is coming. And if you say that is not good and this is not good and that we are sick, then you are destroying yourself. You know, in my room, I met so many people coming to say something. But you are so many, you didn’t come, and not coming in the room where I am here. But when I am sitting here, it is more present; I am with you there. Yesterday after the lecture, it came from myself, from me. Mahāprabhujī may be given, or Holī Gurujīs, I stayed one hour there. So, Śabda, thinking, the word, it comes from our mouth, our tongue. That is not it. It is the other which is coming in our heart inside, and then it comes to our tongue. So this is our yogic yoga, this is yoga practice. Then this Mahārājī, he said very nicely, "Thank you," and then he finished his lecture. And then I slept already, and there were some dreams again coming in me, but I let it dream. Dreaming is always going on for everyone. So this is how we can get with good thinking, and we should say yes to truth. This truth is sometimes you don’t want to speak the truth. Because you think it’s not good, somebody will kill me, but inside you should go to the guru. I made this mistake, but what will I do now? Then go to that one only, that one. What you said, tell that I am sorry. He said, "What? I didn’t say." He said, "I said you, I said you, my mistake." Means you give it to me, your mistakes, and I give you all that you need. So many things are there to come, and we are, all we are, when we are coming, everywhere we go, they bring water, they bring this, this, that, like that. So many times, many stories, and you know what means a story? What is the meaning of the story? What is that? Co to je? Tell anybody. Answer, if you know. Can someone answer me, what does the story mean? What is a story? Co to je? You have no stories? No stories. Oh, my God. Pro Boha. The squirrel comes there and gives the answer. I have the story, meaning story by story, piece by piece. Walk in the car. So in our mind, we have so many stories. This page, this page, that page, this page, this page. How many pages? This is. So, that is a story. It means I have stored everything that I have, enough, and I will tell the story. And we should not learn in the book. Then it’s not a story. The story is in you. So every day before going to sleep, have a story for yourself. Yes, I understand. I can tell you that my sister is there. She is now in Jādan. We were three boys and three sisters. First, we were three sisters, and then brothers. And the last sister was mine, because I was the last-born boy. So, three sisters, first, second, third, they are, and then three brothers, first, second, and third, so this was the third sister, and I was the last, third boy. That’s what the stories he was telling me. I understood. Others have forgotten everything. I know all the stories. So, in the afternoon, or after eating a little, I’m still for two years, three years, but I want to drink milk from my mother. And something. He should eat on this, and then I wanted, "I should sleep because mother is working." So I said, "Come and sleep." He said, "I cannot sleep. Tell me a story, my sister." All children said, she said, "Okay, I give you the stories, and then you will sleep?" She said, "Yes." And I told something, and she said, "No, this is too little." She said, "My sister, give me a story which is very long, so long that I cannot sleep." So, in my house, and there we got a lot of food, the crop, what is this, like wheat, so there was wheat, about a few tons. And I was sleeping there, and there always comes one bird. And it’s coming, and take one and go. Again, it takes this. And like in our here, so my sister said, "First take this all, corn." This corn, and then I further... what? Take it. And look, she’s going there. Again, coming, going. And then, how much? I said, "You." When you take all, then I can do further. The bird is coming, going. And I was sleeping at home. So this is how we can give the children something. And so their children are the very pure, pure children. So there are many things, so many stories. You know what is a story? We are storing one, two, three, four. That will remember you also from your life, many things, you know, your stories: father, mother, brother, anybody, grandmother. That will remain in the life, and so when you want to... So if you want to learn something, something that is not easy to learn, then I make a horse, and me and the baby from the horse. And we go to the farm, and then we go out. We make a story according to what was for the science. Then it was opened. That’s it. Anything, anything, make a story. Anything you want to learn. Definitely, the next day when you come, your numbers will come good. Oṁ Namaḥ Śrī Prabhupādīpā Nārāyaṇam... Om Namah Śrī Prabhu.
