The Serpent of Time and the Guru’s Grace

The body returns to earth; the serpent of time devours all; only the guru's grace reveals the inaccessible truth.

This body, made from earth, returns to earth. Pride in body or wealth is an intoxication. Eight kinds of intoxication exist; pride, arrogance, ego must not exist. Kāla, the serpent of time, holds all in its mouth. No one knows when it will close its mouth and stop the breath. Life has no certainty; death may come at any moment. Even Rama and Krishna needed a guru. The guru's feet are worshipped by all the worlds. True knowledge of Brahman is forgotten in this world. People are distracted and everything is spoiled. The charity of Brahma Jnana is the highest charity. The guru gives the yoga of meditation. Break worldly desires, bad tendencies, and attachments. Then know the supreme Brahman, like a sun. The inaccessible is known through the satguru's grace. Without it, one wanders, weeps, and the opportunity is lost.

"This body, formed from earth, finally returns to the earth."

"hama sabhī usake mukha meṁ baiṭhe haiṁ. Vaha kaba apanā muṁha banda kara le, kucha patā nahīṁ."

This body, formed from earth, finally returns to the earth. Why should you be so proud of it? And the body that is the destroyer, that is the incarnation of the great, has left the body [the soul has departed]. If we are proud of this body, of this wealth—there are eight kinds of intoxication. Any form of intoxication—pride, arrogance, ego—should not exist.
