Reflections on Christmas, Universal Worship, and the Sacredness of All Life

The time of Christmas approaches, a period of worship, light, and preparation across traditions.

People across religions prepare, decorate, and make sweets. Children watch the lights. Many think of Jesus. Worship means being happy. Diwali came before, honoring Śiva, Brahmā, Viṣṇu, Rāma, Kṛṣṇa. The birth of the child Jesus happened among animals, not in a house, for reasons now forgotten. A mother suffers greatly at every birth, yet rejoices when her child is born. The same is true for the cow giving birth. God is in all creatures, but humans often forget. Animals eat each other; God gave humans to understand pain beyond oneself. A ceremony that kills animals cannot be a ceremony. Now, in this Christmas month, Jesus should be worshipped with light. Hanumānjī showed Rām and Sītā live in the heart. The heart of Jesus is also shown. God is everywhere. Every day, think of the Holy Mother, your mother. Then the divine will come. All should be human, not bound to one religion.

"Jīva jīva bhakṣate, each and every animal eats each other."

"If you worship God, then first worship the mother."

Oṁ Namaḥ Śrī Prabhudīp. Śrī Dīp Nārāyaṇ Bhagavān Kī Jaya, Alakhpurījī Mahādeva Kī Jaya. Harade Bhagavān Śrī Dīp Nārāyaṇ Mahāprabhujī Kī Jai, Mādhāvanjī Bhagavān Kī Jai, Alakhpurījī Gurudev Kī Jai. Good evening, all my dear sisters and brothers. We should all know, and we should meditate and pray. It is already one week that we are at this Christian holy place. So, what is coming now? Christmas. And for Christmas, mostly in every religion and in every country, what do we think about that? And not only we, but also the children. Every day, children are looking at the lights that are being lit. In Europe, everything is beautifully decorated now. One candle is already burned, yes? And the second one—when will it be lit? Sunday. When is Sunday? The day after tomorrow. And in this way, many people—it doesn’t matter if they eat meat and so on—but they are thinking about Jesus. It is like every other religion; many are also worshipping, and some do not want this religion or that religion. Where do we stand? Who can worship, or at least give happiness? To say, “This is a God, or that.” If people would all think about how Jesus’ life was—even though it was very hard, he became great—we all see God. How do we worship? Worship means that we are very happy. He can come back again. He was, and many people were also fasting, counting. Yes, everyone is preparing something good. You know, we had Diwali. So it was after Diwali, and after Diwali is Jesus. In Diwali, it is Bhagavān. Who was that? Śiva, Brahmā, Viṣṇu, Rāma, and then Kṛṣṇa. Yes, so you know that some think more about Kṛṣṇa, and when they speak of Kṛṣṇa, they speak of a little boy, a child. And similarly, what was Jesus? How did we arrive at him? How was that? You know all the many details: where he was born, where the cows were. There was one, I think, some ducky… yes, and there were some other animals there. And who was there? The Holy Mother. Why was the child born there and not in a house? That is a deeper matter, and I cannot tell it all because many things I have lost, I have forgotten. But that was a mother. It is a mother’s. We always know when a birth occurs—whether a boy or a girl, it does not matter. Somehow we are very happy, very this, and very not. And so, where we see that some say, “Oh, beautiful!” and this and that, very good, a darling—we are all born this way, but like Kṛṣṇa. And we know how Kṛṣṇa was born or incarnated. We tell about Kṛṣṇa, but what was it like, how he was born, and his mother, how much she was suffering. And then Kṛṣṇa came and everything again, he made something. Similarly, I think, that mother was suffering. From Jesus, but then we came. Rejoicing really came for us, and how happy we are. And how we are thinking very much after all nine days, and we are all this one year, yes? Twelve months. And there, now, for all, is worshipping. But for me, I am a little bit that way: always, Jesus is only on the cross. We are thinking, but it is still far, because it was not Paul putting him so nicely—not nicely, not good at that time. This is another thing I cannot, because these are Christians and they are always making things in this way. So, but this is the day. And then there are many things about the different countries. Now in our European countries, we ask, where is Jesus? And how mass and the snow and everything beautiful? Mahāprabhujī Karatā He Kevalam, Mahāprabhujī Karatā. They are making beautiful, good sweets and this and that. They are already making. And some, like in Croatia, Australia, and New Zealand, they say that when it is very hot, that is what they want. “Oh my God, we are nice, and we go to snow, is it not there? But we want to go to the ocean.” So, this is how the people are. Then we are making this or that, but still, we do worship that. That is such a great saint, like Jesus and like Kṛṣṇa, and you know, also about Rāma, Bhagavān Rāma. You know that he also was going through, and what is that about Sītā? And so, that is very… people do not know. We are only thinking that we want to have a good dress now, and now we want to be very good, and then we want to have some clothes, and we want to have good eating, and this and that. But others were, many were, every whole way. One month they are worshipping, nicely worshipping this. So the Christian time is now here, my dears. And we are all here, mostly in our āśrams. They are from other countries, different countries. But still, we are coming from places where mostly they are worshipping Jesus. And that we should worship. We, in our Hindu tradition, say we worship everyone and we respect everybody. That means the one who knows in their heart and in the brain all religious worship. Those who say, “No, only this and that other is not good,” then it means still you do not know what is God. God is that which is said to be in all animals, birds, fish, and all other creatures. We love them, we feel them, and that is why it is said that jīva jīva bhakṣate, each and every animal eats each other. Jīva Jīva Bhakṣate, Jīva Jīva, they are each other’s food. They know they are suffering and in pain, and animals are like that. Then it is said, when it is like this, each and every animal is eating each other, then God said, “Why are they all eating each other? Please, can you give what?” And then God has given us as a human. God said that in each and every creature, there is God, the life, this all. But we do not know that much. Therefore, it is said, God gave the humans. And God said this, that jīv jīv akṣati. But now you say that we want something. Then he went to the humans. Of course, it is not so easy at that time to know that. But slowly, slowly it came that pain is not only for ourselves, but for others also. Yes, and so we came as that kind of humans that we want. They do not want to, they cannot, and they do not feel like this pain from there or this. And so, those who are worshipping… So, “Jīva Jīva Bhakṣyate” is different. And what are spiritualities, or feelings, or livings, or blessings? That which is blessing? Humans are blessing. And how do they bless? There are people who say they are worshipping, but they are killing the animals. How they are, animals are in much pain, but they say it is a very good ceremony. That cannot be a ceremony. And in that way, I would like to, from my side, for Jesus, I respect very much, love very much, but I cannot feel like that Jesus’s life which was killed. And Rāma was also not so easy, and his parents also, and Kṛṣṇa’s also. So in every god, in the god, in this is coming, the mother is very much suffering. She is in great pain for her. And not only that, the birth of the gods, or Jesus, or Kṛṣṇa, or Manoj and Bhagavān, everything. But that mother also, every mother, she was suffering. And therefore it is said, if you worship God, then first worship the mother. Yes, you do not know, we do not know—oh boy, oh man—but how the mother is worshipping inside for her child, sister, girls, or the boy, it does not matter. So the mother knows how she is, and what is coming, what is bringing girls or boys. But we feel that this is life, and we wonder how this life is coming. So in every religion, they have their worships, and they should, I hope, and I do not know, I do not want to know how they are doing. But in our tradition, that was mostly for Sanātana Dharma, and what was understood as religious in Hinduism, was full of that. But again, from time to time, they lost the feeling of that, and how many are also taking meat and killing the animals. Then it is said, “That is not you. You are not for that mother, of that mother.” Which mothers? The mothers of the humans. And also, you see, when our animal, our cow, is giving birth to a calf, that cow—the little cow—and she is also suffering. How many months she is suffering, but how she feels? She feels what is love, mother, child. And it is not easy that she brings such big animals, like cows or buffaloes or something like that. But they know, even if it is so painful, in her heart that mother said, “My child is born.” The cow gives birth, the mother to a baby boy or a girl. Say that, and it is not that, okay. She knows it is very painful, but she is so happy, “God, I have my child.” And the people take them and kill them, and the animals are looking there. What is that then? So, in a way, now is the month of Christmas, and people are all happy and looking good, and we are praying that, when we are here, you are in India here, in our āśrams, on that day, we should worship Jesus, very nice, very light, and like this, because that light was very nice. God Rāma and Rāmā have made it very nice, and so it is also because when Hanumānjī came, people said, “Where is God Rāma? There is no Rāma, no God.” He said, “My God is in my heart,” and they said, “There is no, you are not like this,” then you know that. Hanumānjī said, “Where is Rām?” And he said, “Because Rām and Sītā, they went.” But he said, “No, he’s in my heart.” I said, “Where is it in your heart?” And then, you know, Hanumānjī took his needles—needles, no, needles—and saw that. There was Sītā, and you see that many, the heart of the God Hanumānjī. And so, after what we see, they are also showing about the same thing, the heart of Jesus. And you see there is also the Jesus heart, there are two. We should know that from time to time. So, God is sometimes, we do not know where He is and where He is going, everywhere. And so it shows it is a lot of problems, very wishful, and like following in this way. I wish you, and we will speak more about this, and I am sure that all our yoga people, yoga in their life, people around the world, from my side to say, we worship Jesus, and we are taking the day, we are coming. Day by day we will come there, so thank you for all of you. And every day, before sleeping or in the morning when you wake up, think about the Holy Mother, okay? Your mother, your mother, and then she will come. That will come, the Jesus. Baby, but it is not a baby; it will be God. We have to know each other. And so it is not only that. Many, many countries and many, many religions, and everybody is thinking about their God, and it is very good. Why not? They are very good. I worship. I wish that all are like this. We should be. And that is not to say that I am only a Hindu, or that I am not a Christian, or I am not this, but we all should be human. In these very nice bhajans, and I was, in the last three days or four days, I was not here, and we will see tomorrow again. May we, I hope, come to the satsaṅg here, because I have three places to go, but it should and it will be. If I come here earlier again, then I will, of course, come tomorrow; otherwise, I am there. And so, we have very nice, beautiful bhajans of our Ārādya Bhagavān Śrī Alakhpurījī, Devpurījī, Mahāprabhujī, and our Lālā Nanjī is very great. He was very great, very great. And I went to see this year, and some came with me, and I want to see that place of our, yes, yes. And Lala Nanjī’s was, he had there, like a very beautiful, great palace. And he had so many horses like this. And it was very nice. We were with you at Premanandjī’s. And how many sādhus were there? So I wanted to see when we go to the Kelās on Khattū. Then we will come to that place to see Lalanānchī Mahārāj, okay? And they want me to come there. Unfortunately, that palace is falling down a little because some people cannot work, and there was this and that. Otherwise, that time was a great thing. Like this, all sādhus were very great. But they know how to do, how to work, how to feel, and this. It is not easy, it is not easy that you have that, your power in you that otherwise is gone. And so, very good bhajan, okay, the best one. Yes, Dīp Nārāyaṇ Bhagavān Kī Jai. Om Bali Śrī Dīp Nārāyaṇ Bhagavān Kī Jai, Śrī Śrī Alakhpurījī Mahādeva Kī Jai, Hindu Dharma Samrāṭ Satguru Svāmī Madhavānandajī Bhagavān Kī Jai, Viśvaguru Mahāmaṇḍaleśvara, Svāmī Maheśvarānandajī, Yogī Rāj Kī Jai, Satyasanātana Dharma Kī Jai, Āj Kī Ānanda Kī Jai, Mātāpitā Gurudeva Kī Jai.
