Yoga is One

Yoga is the practice of yoga in daily life. Many have taken the teachings and given them other names, but what they offer for practice is often incomplete. True yoga requires full discipline, not merely physical exercises. A core principle is non-harming; one must not eat meat or consume alcohol. Many modern adaptations accommodate rather than uphold these standards. Our comprehensive books provide the correct path. The practice is for everyone, regardless of background, but it demands daily commitment to the entire teaching, not just discussion. We must return to the authentic beginning and proceed step by step.

"It says meat can be eaten and so on? No."

"Yoga is the yoga. It is the yoga, and that is all."

We are all practicing our yoga in daily life. I would like to show you one of our books. I believe you all have this book. Does everyone have it? Very good. Have you practiced everything from it? We have another book as well. It is very long, beautiful, and excellent. We worked on it extensively, including a German edition, and it is very nice. If you see this book, learn from it, and show it, you will understand what it truly means to be a yoga practitioner. It is a comprehensive guide and a help for us in everything, according to its teachings. When we demonstrate anything from it, have you learned everything? Have you shown everything or not? That is not so important; it was just a little interjection. So, let us begin. You know, and I know, all that I have done and continue to do. You have also learned these things and have been with us for many years. You know this work has reached many different countries, as is shown in this book. However, some did not practice it; they did not complete this book. We have our yoga center. Yoga is the yoga. It is the yoga, and that is all. There is nothing else. When we take this book, one person may come from one side, another from a different side. The path is different, but we are all coming to the same point. That is yoga. Yoga is that which is for the yogīs. What others have made is not right. Of course, they have created something. Modiji gave his best, which is very good, but he cannot personally oversee and check everything all the time. Somehow, they took everything, gave it another name, and presented it. What they are giving for practice is not sufficient or fully correct. Every yogī—we can say yogīs, we can refer to our satgurus or our gurus—does many things. Everyone may follow one yogī who has given beautiful lectures and done everything in his āśram. He established ashrams and went to other countries, but it was under his name. So, yoga is yoga. But which guru, which master, is the one who is consistently coming and doing all this? We should respect them all. For example, we ourselves have our yoga: Yoga in Daily Life. So, yoga is our practice of yoga in daily life. Do you all understand this? Are you practicing Yoga in Daily Life, or are you only talking about it? I do not know where you stand. That is why we have to come back to it again. Many people now make yoga into different things. They do not uphold certain principles. For instance, they do not tell you not to eat meat because they do not wish to ask, and they themselves may eat meat. Of course, many are good and are doing their best. But when they come to a university setting, they say, "If you want to, you can; if you do not, as you wish. We do not insist." They teach all the exercises, but not the full discipline. So now it is different. They are doing everything in an accommodating way. But if we are in yoga, then first we have to see our own conduct. Like I told you yesterday, we should not eat meat, consume alcohol, and so on. You all know that you are doing this. Good. Perhaps someone occasionally eats meat, but this is also not good. If they say, "Okay, one thing," meaning one finger, and we cut it off—no, that does not matter. I cut only this. It is like this: physical exercises are one thing, but to become truly yogic, to reach that real yoga and ascend, how to reach heaven... on the other side, you are coming with many other things. I went to Australia. There, people come to practice yoga at an ashram and then leave and eat meat and other things. This is not good. So now we must all affirm that Yoga in Daily Life represents a certain standard. The whole world, wherever you are from, you should bring this understanding, and the whole book, everything. There are five more books, and in these books, the teachings are given. It says meat can be eaten and so on? No. We worked very hard in Australia and elsewhere; there is a difference. Now we must proceed as if we are all in this school together. This school, which we are making very good, we must understand. But I tell you, there are three things. It does not matter which country we are from, but we must consider killing and harming animals. We are human. Humans were given the understanding not to kill animals and to live spiritually. Then we will progress into the spiritual world. Otherwise, we may be good and have everything, but how they are eating... You know now some say we will produce more meat and so on. This is not good. Anywhere, I mean not just in this country but the whole world, they are trying to kill animals. You know, originally, long ago, people did not eat meat so much—very rarely. Then, over time, as people came again and again... At that time, all the people were there, and they had little to eat. I am sorry, but I do not know for sure; I was not here then. But I saw that throughout the world, humans were fighting and marrying. They did not have many things. They saw people from other countries, like America, who were eating meat—not every day. And other people, perhaps here in Germany or Austria, would stand and look: "Who is eating meat?" And when those people left, they might take something. I do not know if you know this history. After that, when they came, they always tried to provide meat. They wanted to eat meat and more meat. Like this, they have come to eat meat. Do you know what I am telling you? Now they are coming more and more, killing animals, and this is not good. Of course, you are living your life, but we should see that we do not want these creatures, the animals or anybody, to be killed. When I travel by airplane from one country to another, I see now that inside the airplanes, many people ask only for vegan meals. So many, many people on the airplane choose vegan. There are many people because they have seen that animals are killed. Many, many animals are killed. That is why all people, especially young people, say, "No, I do not want to kill animals. We do not do like this." So we ourselves should not want to kill any creatures. In any case, in these books, there are the kinds of exercises from that time, and what they contain is very great. We should learn from them again. It is not only their lectures, but it is very nice to read again and understand how it will affect the body. There are many exercises, of course. Every yogī has many. Yes, it begins from the beginning, but there is not only this. Further, we have to approach everything very nicely—vegetables and so on. There is a lot we have to learn according to this, practicing for the people. From this book—if you have the book, you can keep it; if you do not have it, you have a new book now—so now you begin from the beginning again. What does that mean? In the beginning, you have two beginnings. One beginning is that you know very much everything. But now I do not know when and how and where. Then we should come to it and again proceed step by step. That is very important. Otherwise, what we are calling Yoga in Daily Life, which is a very great practice... All must not be in my yoga's name, but other Swāmīs, many from India, come to other countries and give their name. So, yes. Now, there is in the United Nations and everywhere, but there is one more. We have Yoga Nadi, or the next one more, and that is from the yogis... no, what is that? Sivananda. So, Yogananda is yoga, a yogī. He was very great, his master, and they were very good in their practice. Still, they are, according to the yoga... This is the name known throughout the whole world. I have seen it everywhere. There is another one also, and so is also the yoga. Now, what is yoga? The name is okay. How I brought my Yoga in Daily Life—I was mostly in other lands at that time: Croatia, the other side, Czech, Slovakia, and so on. So it was my yoga more there. But they said, "What you are telling, how is it like that? Are you talking about religion?" Then they did not want it. Others would do different things. So we made "Yoga in Daily Life." So yoga, Yoga in Daily Life. Life: every day we should practice. This is yoga, and so we have begun from this. Now, what have I got? This first very beginning there, and in that way, "Yoga in Daily Life" immediately, quickly, spread to so many countries with many people practicing under the name "Yoga in Daily Life." It means we should practice every day. That is all. And that is for everyone, whether they are Hindus, Muslims, Christians, or anybody. It is like that for everyone. So, do you have 100% understanding? I know somebody said that we have this book, and we had our book. We read sometimes and were telling something, this and that. But exactly, we did not practice. And if we did, we lost it. Because we must practice everything, and then again, then it is okay. In this way, Yoga in Daily Life. So we see, how do you begin to come? Exercise, and everything is everywhere here. So now, who is coming here? Please, on this beginning, we should begin, okay, in this class.
