Vishwaguruji's first visits to Czechoslovakia

The early spread of yoga in Central Europe began through sincere invitations. People from Czechoslovakia requested teachings despite political warnings. A core group of devotees, including a professor and a young woman named Lalitā, facilitated the first programs. These gatherings attracted diverse individuals from various faiths. The practice grew steadily from these humble beginnings. The foundational yoga system was later developed and compiled into a book. This work established a lasting community of dedicated practitioners. The journey was marked by personal devotion and collective effort.

"They said, 'Please, we would like to bring you to Croatia.' I said, 'Okay, I’m okay.'"

Hari Om. Śrīdeep Nārāyaṇ Bhagavānkī, Dev Puruṣamā Devakī, Madhvanājī Bhagavānkī, Satya Sanātan Dharmakī. Om Śānti, Śānti, Śānti. You have already done the prayer? Very good, thank you. You are our bhaktas here? You can imagine that we have so many people, and they are all the best. You are the best in the whole world, and we are here. We always bring our best bhaktas and have programs here. I want to tell you what happened with me in this country, Czechoslovakia. There, everyone, wherever I was going to see someone, all they were coming to was with me. And I know how I will bring myself to all, how much. At that time, I came from Vienna, and I came from Germany, Austria, and also from Jaipur, India. After two years away from India, I wanted to go back. Then, three or four people came to Vienna from Czechoslovakia, to my ashram, and they said, "Please, we would like to bring you to Croatia." I said, "Okay, I’m okay." But some people from Vienna told me, "Please don’t go, because at that time it was other countries, communist, from communist, so don’t go, please." But they had some officers, and they said, "Please come and give yoga for us." I said, "Why not? I will come." And the Vienna people said, "Please don’t go." But I said, "I will go." Someone from Vienna, some person, went with me. I went by bus, not airplane. There was this one family, and they brought me a long way from here. Exactly at these times, it was snow and cold and everything. They invited me into one house, and they gave me a practice in yoga. It was about nearly 100 people, and I had been four years in this country before that. Here, people were all coming—Christians, Muslims, Christians, and other Orthodox. Also, the Christian people were coming and asking me to practice yoga. I said, how do you think they are all different countries? And they are here. They said, "No, no, we are all, and you are a great yogī, we are your masters," they said. There was satsaṅg in one city. Then they brought me to another city, near the railway. There, three people were with me. One was a very great person, a professor. His name was Mliński, very great. Another was his friend; he died. And one was this Lalitā. Lalitā was young, and she was in school or something. They all came to me, and it was in the hall of a hotel. From there, these three people were brought further for yoga. Immediately, the people began to come for the mantra and the guru. They said, "We want the guru," and then all other people came. They liked this and said, "Yes, yoga is good." So from there it began, very much Indian, my Indian yoga for me, the whole world. At that time was Lalitā. She was all the time making all the lectures and this, somewhere, and that, and that, very much. So that was the first time. Then they said, "Please come again." I wanted to go back to India. You see, I hadn't—even I don’t have my hair, beard. I was a young child like this, and I said, "OK, I will come, but I want to go to India." They were after about one month, only one month or something. Czechoslovakian, please come all, and in Vienna. From that, for me, it was like a little bird and the birds’ nests. In the birds’ nests, in the nest, about three, four, five. So I said, Vienna is this bird, but all the eggs, how much was in this bird? Slovakia. In this, it was very great. The Holy Gurujī came, and Holy Gurujī and me, we were sleeping in the little house, and his son and she, they went out to his mother’s. Holy Gurujī was very nice to them. Then, one day, in the second year of this, when I came the next day, she said to me, "Please, Swamiji, there is one of my friends, and he is very... he is not good, he is ill." Someone told me, she said this, "Līlā, Lalitā, yeah, and tell that one, ill man." So she took me. It was a long way, and she was driving the car. I cannot drive. She brought me so far, and everywhere, many, many people and she together, they made me very great. Then it came to the other place. It was he who showed his mother was hitting you. Yes, and they too, they caught me like this. In this way, the Hungarians, then that time, the Slovenians, yes, and then I got it new, more, how do you call it? So I was very hard, very friendly, and very good. She was always there for me, and he had one son, and he was also very good. Such people, how are they, with very great things? Then one day somebody asked me, we were in a restaurant for eating, and there is something, some food, not meat, but it is a very fruit, not a fruit, no, no, and this is a very smell. Can you give me more? This was the third time I was in this country. I took this very good fruit, and I was coming by train. All stopped, all trains and everything. It is between Austria and this and that. Two policemen came, and they said, "Please open your door for me." I opened this, and he said, "Stop, close it, close it." It is so much smell, this, no? I said, "No, why that? No, no, close it." And so many people like that, eating this, yeah? So when I came there, I always brought this. All the police there are, all the time telling me, "Ah, please go." And always, when I came from Vienna to here, the police and all their people were asking me very nicely. This time, anywhere, my car or a hard car, or anything in the forest. No one took our bus, truck, or our cows, not hard, or hard. In the forest. We went the next day to another place. The truck was here. The car was here. Nothing, no look or nothing. Yeah, in this Kriya, in all these logs and everywhere, no, there was any problem. Well, it was many things. That’s why today, we saw, as today she was, I don’t know how it happened. I think she was burned in the house, and she fell down in the house. So maybe she fell down in this, and this, so nobody had insight. For some years already, she was falling down. Then we made it, everything. This is like this. After so much good, everything must change, but what has happened to her? It is not. So maybe she thinks that she has done a little more, and then you will go to the high, to God, and so, I don’t know how she fell, or this, I don’t know. From there, what we call Czechoslovakia. It was very great people, very great people, yeah. Then other countries also, then Hungary. This is all that was taking me. I was coming back again to Vienna, Austria. Okay, but not like that, like this here. How are the people there? How are they living? How they have love, how everything, very much. So I said, when they told me that she had died, and then they said she was in her house, and nobody told anything. I was really, I was very tired, I’m sad, very sad. She’s here now, you can see. So it is in my life, and your life for me is great. What does this mean? Not only in Gal, in Alita, but all others, the whole of this country and many, they are all with me, like my brothers, my sisters, and many go with me to India. Coming there, helping everything, very good. Then it comes also from Hungary, and after Hungary, there was this—what was this whole? Yugoslavia. Yugoslavia. Everyone, everyone, and they were also very great, very great. In that way, I will say this: they tell the country like this, but otherwise they come whole, big from there to there, and they were so big and very good, and they became so quickly my disciples there. You cannot imagine how my disciples from there, again, they have all been very heavy people, good people. It is unbelievable how they are peaceful and very good to them. So you can see from Czechoslovakia and this, and then from this side to here, all are my... Then there was someone who took me to America. Many other countries came. When I first went to America and New Zealand, also in Australia, they gave me a lot of gratitude, and one of the yogīs who welcomed me there with great respect, he is now a sādhu. Yeah, Madhuram is after Lakṣman. So, my Lakshman, very... my Lakshman, very big. He’s a big. He’s very, so beautiful and very spiritual. Any work you want to do, you can do. But one thing, he makes work something, and instruments are falling down. So, my dears, that’s why it all began for me, only these people like you. All can teach: America, Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, here, all. At that time, what happened was that people were eating meat, and I told them not to eat meat. So all the people are now here, but slowly, slowly. In Vienna, I was there. They came, five people for yoga. Twenty people for yoga, or thirty, or like this. And I want, but they said, "Come to eat with us." I said, no, I eat no meat. And they should not be, I said, "I will not eat meat." So, my disciples, very good disciples in Vienna, and everyone, and slowly, slowly, they all came, no meat, no alcohol, and us. Now you know, it is many, many, many people that do not eat meat and alcohol. And here also. Then came the vegans, and the people were giving them animals, and they were killing and so on. So these old people in America and very weird people came, and Germans also, the vegans, no milk, no butter. So people decided not to use milk at all, butter. And no, not only dairy products, but also honey, bees. So everything that is happening comes from the yoga in daily life. We were in Czechoslovakia, and these people were there. I gave them, there were two Indians who were from India, and we said, "How to make yoga and practice yoga, make the yoga class?" At that time, some Indian people were practicing, but they were always coming the same, ten people this, let’s say, half a month, and the others only for one day. So all the coming in and out, and they don’t know how to do it. Then in Czechoslovakia, and here on that side, her mother is sitting there, and the other one is not. Then we said, we will make yoga very current and good. From beginning till that far, and so we made this yoga book, you see. With my mother and with other people, Satya Mitra and others, we sat down and we came up with the whole system from which we have today the book, System of Yoga in Daily Life. This, so we brought this in, this very great. Here in the Czech country, and there, they had the best university. This is one of the best universities in the Czech Republic: Charles University in Prague. Yes, this was one of the first in Europe. I was there, and I asked for practicing yoga. One professor said to me, "What are you doing?" "I am with you for yoga," he said. "But you do the yoga, but what are you doing?" I said, "I will give you the best, and you will do the whole world." So there, in my room, it was, I write this yoga. They said, "What is that? Why?" Then I asked him, "This meditation, this is concentration, this is that thing, this, showing this, that, yeah, oh, what is that?" And in the Unite, inside there, I was speaking language. Yeah, language. And they failed me. So one person was sitting there, and he told me, what is this? Why this? Why that? And myself, I didn’t know what to do. But I said, it is the best of all this. And yoga, this is best and best, best. Then the professor in their university, Mr. Swami, you know, but I know better. I said, "What? Because I have studied in India." And all languages he has learned from that. And this is that, please, this point. And this is that you did it. I did this to him then, and he understood later. So it was in this country, and in further, and this everything is very great. So, how is it that it is coming? And you, you have to come further, please. And your children. Now you know that five families are in my yoga teachers. When I was dead, there was an old woman. And she said, "Swamiji, I will never give the meat and this." And his son, and he also will not eat the meat and alcohol. And he has one child now. And he’s already three, he’s already in my, no meat and no like that. I have many people now, all coming, vegetarians and everything good. I have many people who are vegetarians, and they are doing well. In this Līlā, in this Līlā, and on that day, in the three-day sectors in the program, when I came there, so many people were always coming like this. And people who are going quickly, please give them something to eat, and then they should go. Yeah, so tell them from that side, that people going, "Please eat something and then go." They are from that side. And not here, they are from there. They go, people. Go quickly. So I was that time in India, I was like this, and maybe a little bit some hair, a little bit like this, and very thin. So, where is that Līlā, and where are his other people? So they said that they are all eating there, and one father’s grandmother came with the stick in hand. She was standing with the chair like this, back side. And he said, "Mother, now you will see what Swami Maheshwarananda is." So his mother said, "Oh my God, this child is not eating, it’s completely like this." It was like Indra, no, Gandhi, Gandhi, like a Gandhijī. I said yes, but it will be good. Then, after this, his mother said, "He will be like this; he will kill." You are killed this time, so his mother came, and he brought me here, there. And he said, "You don’t eat anything." I said, I eat very much. So from there begins so much. All these people at that time always were, you go up, meat and alcohol, meat and alcohol, all in these countries. And now, maybe they are not with me or not, but they are all vegetarian. And also eating something, and that everything is good. So that was like this for me there. There were about ten people with me. It was like Lalita, and two, and five moments, this was. There was a very great thing, also good, very great. So, my dears, you are also doing. And I know, I know, may you do or not, but you are in your heart and you think of me. That doesn’t matter how it is, but they say, "Oh, he is a good boy." We have something good. So it is that for every, you are all admitted by me, you are my, you are all each and every one of my choir, a choir here. Yeah. So all my ears, this from on that, that is my satsaṅg. And my guru, and this, she was a great girl. So it is like this. So let all one minute, please. We shall think on, we shall tell her, and it was not good. She died, and it was not good. But God, please, give her heaven. Aum. Aum. Aum. Aum.... Aum. Aum.... Aum. Aum.... Aum. Aum.... Aum. Aum. Like this, everybody, and we are all with us, and one day we will also go to this light and peace. That’s it. So you have seen, because in some countries and other countries, so in such countries like this, anywhere, when a few people, any country, only one, if they become a sādhu, śānt, bhakti, all. All we are like this, and we will always be like this.
