The Essence of Yoga in Daily Life

A spiritual discourse and award ceremony on integrating yoga and Sanātana Dharma into daily life.

"You should know why you have come to this world." "Yoga in daily life means in the whole world, in the whole world."

A speaker, referencing Gurudev and Swami Madhavanand, delivers a wide-ranging talk emphasizing the purpose of human life, the principles of yoga, and the protection of animals and Indian culture. He shares anecdotes about teaching yoga abroad, insists on vegetarianism for practitioners, and discusses the global spread of both meat-eating and veganism. The event includes the presentation of awards for promoting Indian culture and peace, with thanks given to organizing institutions like Apex University and the Yoga in Daily Life Foundation.

Gurudevo Maheśvara Gurur Sākṣāt Parabrahma Tasmai Śrī Gurudeva. I always say this: you should know why you have come to this world. Our revered Devpurījī, Śrīdīp Nārāyaṇ Mahāprabhujī, and revered Svāmī Madhavānandjī from Bāḍīkhāṭū, Nāgaur, Rājasthān—do you know him? He is known throughout the world. Here in this city, he is like a father. They were descendants of Mahāniśwariya. Madhavānand Jī gave me everything in this world. When I was with Gurujī and he took me abroad, I saw many things. As far as I know, he is like an elephant in stature. In whatever country I went, I saw that people eat meat. Even in places where proper food is scarce, meat is there. I knew my duty. I taught yoga in three or four countries. They wanted to do yoga but also eat meat. I said no, and I would not allow it. I told them if you want to learn yoga, give me a month's commitment, and then I will teach you. So, give me a month, and then I will guide you. Two or three people agreed, then four or five, then for a year. Our Vedanind Mahārāj, Yogeś jī... I will tell you something short and sweet. Here in India, in Rājasthān, there were those who previously did not eat meat. Now they are in our country. I made them eat so much meat that they will not eat anything else. They will go to our country today. You said you were coming. Where did you go? You also went. So, what must we do to open their eyes? Number one. Number two, short and sweet. When we wake up in the morning, we have to open our eyes. When we open our eyes, we have to wake up. What is the one word? "I am a human being." But the mother is the mother of the earth, and the mother of the earth is the mother of the whole world. After that, the first thing to drink is water. Water is Jagadīś. Jagadīś, Sarveś, Jagadīś, Bhagavān. If we see how much water there is—how much water, trees, whatever is on earth—it circulates. Take a little water in your hand. Just one, two, three drops. That drop will tell you, while you look at it, that "I am in all of you." As soon as you apply it to the whole body, it is like an injection. Both are working very hard. By doing this, Jagadīś will enter the entire body. Then you will see that you will be very good to everyone. And earth, etc. Now, when humans stay at home and sleep, do not let animals into the room where the mother, father, and children are. Look, we have left the cow and the calf. And there is a dog. The dog did not sleep. This happened a lot. I don't know. There are dogs too, but that dog is sitting on a stick. They say the dog is in the middle. Or the mother of the village gets up at home and goes to get the dog. See, that dog is good. It is very good. I am not saying otherwise. But even there, they are doing so much. I told him that on the one hand, feed everyone, but on the other hand, he cannot go beyond that. And after that, Muslims are very good. What language do they speak to their mother and father? What do they say about Muslims? What do they say about their mother and children? So, their children, all of them, are doing it. Very good. Now, the Australians. The Australians are saying, "I am sitting at home." So, they are doing it the way they do it in their village. So, till now, they are doing it that way. And the other thing is that you are a Hindu, and we are from India. Now, what is there in India? What should I say? What should I say to my mother? What else should I say? What should I say to my father? He is saying that he is in trouble. Now, you tell me, what is there in India? Before I went abroad, it was good. And now he has come. Then you tell me, what did you say about your children? Whether it is a thief or a thief, what did you say? And what did your mother say? What did your father say? I don’t know, I don’t have a clue. I don’t know if there is such a thing or not. So your child, your name, your what, is not of our Hindustān, is not of our Bhagavān. And that, too, is not of their nature. So why did you leave us all in your India? It is fine that we are Hindustani, but in my opinion, I say that you are not living, you are living. What should I do with this? Foreigners tell me, "Mahārāj Jī, what are you doing?" Now, the second is Yoga. Yoga is the name of all the yogas in the world. So it is like this: all the sādhus and saṅghas who do yoga, they will have their Gurujī’s name given to them. Their father’s name will be given to their Gurujī. So our Sādhus and everyone else, even their father’s name will be given to them. Like the mother will give the name of her son or daughter. Now he has left that. Now all the yogīs we have, our yogīs and mine, how did he do that? He left them. And in this, he also said that we will not do two words. Now, the yoga work that we will do, we will not do it with two words. That what? That mass, and what else? We will not say that we will not do it. Sādhus say that we will not do it. We will not do it. But I will not tell them to do it or not to do it. And the yoga that I have done, till date I have kept it with me. For five years, their children, children in front of them, they have told everyone that they are our Hindu. They have told such good things. They have told the ashram. So you do not say that, "I don’t want to hurt you, but I just want to say that Yoga in Delhi life, Yoga in Delhi life,... Yoga in Delhi." If you are taking care of the dogs, you will not feel good. Dogs are good. They have to stay in their place. You are also a cow’s child. How nice it is to have a cow’s calf at home for five to ten days. The cow is worshipped, and the dog is worshipped. So in our India, because I am telling you, whatever is happening in the world—eating, drinking, speaking, everything—but only in India, there is Sanātana Dharma. How much they pray, how much they pray, how much they do everything, how many sages and sages do it. Apart from this, there is no one else in this world. Our people who go to Gujarat, America, many of our people from this village go there. They go there, pray there, do a lot of work, and worship our people. And the people who used to eat Mūrṣā, they also left them together in America, our people. He said, "Wow!" So he left it from there, where? From here, and what is happening there, so this is our living, giving. So Mr. Modījī has done a lot, and all of them, all of them, back to Sanātana, Sanātana, Satya Sanātana. So, in the same way, by going inside my yoga, I would like to say one more thing: the time is very bad. Not bad. Sorry, the time is short. So then, what did I do? Now, for the most part, it has been 20 years. 20 years or a little more. Then I went to my foreign friends and asked them how they keep their cows and how they water them. Five or six people came and saw the cows. There are no cows in Atalgaon. There are only dogs. Sorry. Shall I tell you something? You may have seen something, but you haven’t seen others. So what is that? After five or six years, a cow’s calf is coming there. Two men are sitting there. There is a cow, and the calf has taken the calf out. It comes as it is. One day, a child came and pulled up a cow. It wasn’t a bull; it was a tiger. You saw it, right? It was a bull. He looked at it and pulled it up. He said, "Why are you pulling it up?" The cow was very sad, so what happened? The people were sitting. So, five or six other people started to eat the cow’s calf. At that time, they were all foreigners, not mine. They said, "I will not eat, I will not do. We will not kill any animal." They made sure that no animal, cow, buffalo, goat, or dog would have milk. That is theirs, but don’t drink their water. So now see what I am doing. Otherwise, I am drinking my own milk. But more than me, my people are in America and Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Canada, everything, everywhere. So those people have come. What have they been called? Vegan. Vegan. Will you have a name for vegan? So, what is that? The cow’s milk, ghee, and butter will not be eaten. If you have a tree and you want to make it beautiful, then you can do this. Have you seen a wagon? There are eight wagons in your village. There are eight wagons in three or four places. And in Australia, in the Far East, there are wagons. So the foreigners who live in Europe or in America, they are non-vegetarians. And when I say, you can say what has happened. When our people from Europe and our people from India come here, and the other people who also come here, when they come here, they say that they want to eat as much meat as possible. And they are not vegans. They say that we don’t have meat; we have two vegans. See, come with me, I will give you. I will tell you on the same day. They left all the animals, all the animals... all. What you have done and what you are doing, I don’t know. This is my village, this is my country; I have to bring it back a little. This is not my mother. The mother will remain the mother, the son will remain. Everyone will have meat, Madhira will not have meat. So, pray. You should wake up the children, you should wake up the children, do prāṇāyāma, go to the temple and sit. I am not saying that this is a big deal, but this is a big deal. So, that is why Yoga in daily life. Yoga in daily life means in the whole world, in the whole world. And if someone asks me, "Who is Yoga in Daily Life? Where is it from?" Is it from India, or is it that? I will say that you belong to India. We will do yoga for you. They will do it for me, but they will not give it to me. That is why I have called everyone to do yoga in daily life. Every day, practice yoga. Every day, practice yoga. If they are doing yoga in daily life, then you will have to do it well. And if someone comes in front of the other person for 5, 10, 20, 30 days, and the third person comes in front of him, then I am seeing it now. I know that, but Mahārāj Jī has done a good thing. He has done it. He is doing it very well. But sometimes, when not many people come, some people ask for help from others. But if someone comes to me, and he is 18 years old, he will say, "10 years old, what is it? 10 years old." So in this way, what I say is that Yoga in daily life, in the whole world, in the presence of God, protect the animals, protect our India, protect our India. Our parents are children. Don’t let the animals go into the house. They have children. Make them do it. Don’t let them do it. But sleeping in front of a house, in the lap of a goat, or in the lap of a cat—there is a cat, a cat is also good, so give it to them—but whatever is in a house, it should not go there. BOL ŚRĪ DĪP NĀRĀYAṆ BHAGOVĀNĀÑJĪ JAIHU DEVĀDĪ DEVA DEVA PURĪṢYA MAHĀDEVĀ JAIHU MADHVĀNĀÑJĪ BHAGOVĀNĀÑJĪ SATYA SANĀTAN DHARMĀJĪ JAIHU MĀTĀ PITĀGURU DEVĀJĪ JAIHU OṀ ŚĀNTI ŚĀNTI... AMARI BHARAT... published work of great Sanskrit scholar, Pt. Madhusudan Pocha. Now, I request Mr. Mantra Deśhwar to propose a vote of thanks. I would like to call Professor Kailash Chaturvedi for a few words. I just want to say that yesterday I was sitting on Facebook, and thousands of my friends had asked me a question: that mobile, telephone, and other institutions are losing everything. How long will it last? I said it won’t last. It will end in such a way that the whole world will be confused. Number 2 is that as long as it is going on, we say, "Hello, hello, hello." Tell me the alternative. I said, at least the Indians and all of you should know that its alternative is to say Oṃ. Say Om whenever you pick up the telephone or talk. Namaskār. Thank you. Now I would like to thank you. So I would like first to thank our Gurudev, Viśvaguru Mahāmaṇḍaleśvara Paramahaṁsavāmī Aśvaranpurījī Mahārāj, who is the main organizer of Yoga in Delhi Life International, Śrī Svāmī Madhavānand World Peace Council, and many other societies, NGOs around the world. So, Swami Madhavanand’s World Peace Council is also associated with the United Nations with a special collaborative status, ECOSOC, and in this, you saw we gave five awards because the program was very short, so we did give five awards for the promotion of Indian culture, which means promotion of ancient culture and peace. So I would like to thank our main co-organizer, Apex University. The father has many children, but the dream of the father is that the children are outgrown. So we have here the whole family, Junivaldi and two brothers, who are actually, when you search for APEX University, this is not only one institution; there are nine institutions. So I would like to thank them for their hard work in education. And that’s why we also awarded our dear Ravi Jī with the World Peace Award. Beside them is the vice-chancellor, who worked so many years in the technological field, but what you don’t know is he did his graduation, I think also his PhD, in Hungary in 1986. So this is connection, international connection already in many places. And we have the Major Sub, which is now a major force in connecting the international cultures and the Indian cultures, because India is basically the cradle of civilization. I know it’s thought about this for the Middle East, but basically, India is the cradle of civilization. And many scientists have successfully proven in so many European countries, in America, and everywhere that this is true. Now we have the President of the Rajasthan Sanskrit Academy, Dr. Saroj Kocher. She was working in education for so many years. Now she is the chairman of the Sanskrit Academy, and also she is working very hard in the promotion of vegetarianism in India. Now, this is a very sad thing because before, when I came 20 years back, there were very rare places which were written "non-veg." Now, there is no place where this is not written. So now it’s becoming opposite. The craze for meat, unfortunately, is taking over, and the main point for the meat industry is that it’s healthy. If the meat industry is healthy, then why are there so many hospitals in Europe and America? Just think on that. So we did together with Apex University, Yoga and Daily Life Foundation, and our branch, Vishwa Gurudev Ashram Research Center. We did this small program of three hours here in the university. I would like to thank our hosts and Gurudev for this opportunity. We had one more speaker, Bandit Mahesh Dadjī. He is a very famous scholar, especially in Śrī Vidyā and Rāmāyaṇa, because you know that India is the cradle of spirituality. So there is connected with spirituality, this professor Mahesh Dādjī knows. And we have here Virendrajī Bansal. He actually started as an artist, and now he has a collection of 20,000 Paṇḍulipi manuscripts—20,000 old manuscripts. And when you go to his museum, there are an unknown number of paintings, all paintings, all things, and so on. So we are thinking that he also joined this conference. So, for this world, I would also like to invite all of you, whenever you have time, to come to visit the Ashram, visit Om Ashram, and I wish you all the best. Śrīdīp Nārāyaṇa Bhagavān. To now request Dr. Ravi Juhiwal, Chairman of Apex University, to kindly convey our heartfelt gratitude to Mahārāj Jī and all eminent scholars present here. Peace, harmony, vegetarian—whatever program is being run in around 3,000–4,000 centers around the world—is really a blessing for us. You have come here, you have welcomed us here. For this, our best wishes. Today’s ceremony comes to its conclusion. I would request everyone to proceed for prasād and service refreshments outside the auditorium. Thank you very much.
