Life will be easier if we don't eat meat

The core problem is violence and consumption causing suffering. My disciples asked for help for a sick relative who eats meat. This is the global issue: people consume meat and alcohol, creating suffering and karmic knots. Life, in any form, is sacred. Animals endure great cruelty. Practices like Kṛṣṇa consciousness show a better way through vegetarianism and prayer. Yet people revert to old habits. Humans, endowed with intellect and comfort, exploit and kill other beings who also possess senses and life. We build and accumulate but often lack true compassion, as seen in the lonely elderly who are abandoned. Our actions have consequences. We must help, but the fundamental solution is to stop the killing and consumption.

"They are creating many different, complicated little knots."

"Each and every living being, every animal, has this."

They have been my disciples for very many years, originally from Hungary. He was beginning very well, coming along nicely. She and her husband are also long-time disciples. They maintain many centers where nobody eats meat or such things. He came today; he is now working in Germany. He is very nice, and one of his friends or family members is also very nice. However, they are not involved in my yoga practice. Now they have come to me, asking, "Please, can you do something for my friend, for my nephew?" You know him, so they ask. He has problems in his body now, so they are telling me, "Swamiji, please, can you give something for this?" I said, "Yes, I will do it, I can do it." But then I asked, "Is he eating meat or not?" The answer was yes. You see this in the whole world. In this village of the world, everyone is eating meat. And everyone—how much are they consuming? These people are all dying from this. For a while, they eat and it seems good, but then it brings the consequences back again. In that regard, it is like this. I observe that in our yoga practice, everywhere in different countries, many who may have done the same thing face difficulties. Otherwise, life could be very good for everybody. But they are creating many different, complicated little knots. This is also life. Even a little life is still life. Yet they treat these lives with such cruelty, burning them inside or out, and then they consume more meat, alcohol, and other things. Why are people doing this? We should convey this message in Hungarian as well. They have many issues now, and there are people involved with various groups. There is a very big ashram, with pandits and others, many from Australia. They are becoming Hindus now. What is that? Yes, can you say it loudly? The Aborigines from Australia, yes, Hare Kṛṣṇa. So this Kṛṣṇa consciousness is now all over the world. Truly, they bring awareness: no meat, no alcohol, none of that. Always bhajans and prayers, everything very nice. Consequently, they have no such problems. Sometimes people go there for a day, eat well and so on, but when they return home, they go back to eating meat and other things. This is because the animals are suffering. They are suffering greatly. These cows they take for killing—sometimes they are treated as if they are nothing. This disregard will only lead to more and worse things. One day, it will bring very bad consequences. Therefore, we should tell everyone: please, no meat and no alcohol. It is said that alcohol is only for doctors, for internal use in medicines, but that is a different matter. There are so many animals being killed, and they are given so much suffering. They kill them in such a way that the animals cannot even cry out. They are making it so there are no more animals. How can they do this? So, jīva jīva bhakṣyate. The word is jīva. Jīva is life—humans, animals, and all living beings from many scriptures. Where there is life, even if it is not considered a high form, it is still there. They all go somewhere and stay there; they have this life. This is why we go there. If they do everything well, they may not come back as humans; they might be killed by humans. But however much they are always being killed, there is so much killing. It means the whole situation is, "Oh man, oh man, you are a human." You have everything. God gave it all in your head, in your brain, everything. It all comes in when we see or eat something. We eat only until it is inside the mouth. When it is swallowed, it's gone. That part of the body doesn't tell you what it is. When something goes deeper inside, it is different. That is also not good, not proper. Only this part—the senses—is given to all animals. Even a little ant has eyes that see, and a nose. Its sense of smell is very strong. From a smell here, they will all come very quickly. Where do they come? Into the garden, the kitchen—our kitchens. We keep everything very nice and clean so they don't come. But everyone has life, yes? Whether a little ant or an elephant or a bird. You know, a little ant can cause problems for an elephant. That is why elephants have big ears, yes? Why is he always flapping them? He doesn't want any animals or insects to go inside, because if they go into his ear, it can become a very big problem for him. So, it is always like that. Each and every living being, every animal, has this. In this, humans think only of ourselves. But what happened there that day? How do they do? How are we doing? We are doing many, many things. Now we have very nice houses, families, and people. Okay, we build one house, then another because the family is bigger. But not only for your family; you build buildings and then give them to someone. Everyone is letting space for a few, for five people. I have an ashram here and there, but only sometimes. What we have made is too much. So humans are now thinking all the time, so much. Good things are best; everything is good. But it is not like this anymore in this way. So, okay, someone comes to me after that, and I will tell them, of course. I will say, "Okay, I hope I can tell God that it will be okay." But when it has already gone back, and by then, it is like the tiger—the big tiger. When the tiger comes and goes here, and when he is in a certain state, others cannot do anything. Sometimes he might run away quickly. So this is coming. We humans operate; we protect each other. Whenever we go out, we have shoes for our feet. No animals have this. These comforts are not present for them. They are very cold, even in the winter. But God provides for them. They sit like that, or they go back inside. But who gives them that warmth or protects them from the cold? Other than God, no one. How is this? And so, people are like this. Sometimes, when it is very cold, animals go somewhere underneath, and they don't eat, they don't go out. They stay inside. God has given them the ability to stay for one month or two months. The animals are certain to be there. They come and go like that. But, oh man, you have everything. Very nice, good. How many things? One cloth this afternoon, a sleeping place, everything. You take out more and more. But still, we have nothing. We are not ourselves. We don't like, and we take. This is not good; this is good? What is this? This is not good, and all that suffering in this life. And then what will be? We will die. Everything is there when a person... He died in the house, and nobody was there. After five days, someone came to know that inside was one... was married? Not married, had died, yes. And who tells that? I know that. Tell the one. One very old woman, very nice, and she's... I know that this is one of his... his brother or something like this. This is one lady who has no children, no husband, no people. When we are doing well, we are with you. But when there is nothing here, then nobody calls on the telephone, nothing. So, in that context, what I said... So, Priyanka, hey Priyanka. I tell you like this: how it has been killed. So she is sitting like this because it is very cold. She puts it here. No, no, no. Yeah. And then, so she is sitting here because it's cold. She is very, very old. She put it here, and what happened is, somehow she did something with this. So this fell on her hip, this burn, very bad. And now she cannot go out. She can only pull out... And really, both legs here are burning like this, and she died inside, like this, in this. Premanājī, please tell me. Yes. It is not like this. I am telling it as it is, but you can tell Premanājī when he comes. So she was... maybe she did something for her people, somebody who liked this or something like this, this burning like this. Nobody is calling. There is no "hi," "yeah," or "bye." So is that why? So many things. And you know all other animals? When they are killed, it is very quick, one day or something like this. But we humans, because of how we live, what we eat, we take everything, we do so many things. We humans are now doing everything, even killing humans. It's the same, you know, like this. That is that, oh my Lord, what can I do? God, you have God, my humans, and this may be God, but it is said, God, Bhagavān. So Bhagavān said, and then he gave the humans, and when he got the humans, then, you know, that he said, "Now tell me, what are you? What can we not do? We will kill." You know, now and always, Bhagavān was running away, no, with his government? Yeah? So, like this is the situation. Therefore, we, but still we want to help. We are helping and doing, but what happens will happen. We should help. It doesn't matter how it is. If one bribes a person or does billing or this, but still we will say please, and then we are taking a hand and like this, but it will give up. So there is a lot of suffering, and when the suffering is in there, on that side, then all your everything comes again. Like there, I know a very nice place where we always went for yoga practice, with many people. She has a beautiful house there. While I was there once, I told you, and he opened it, and we were going and practicing and went to, um, Mancha, yeah, Rada, and others, a little brother, like this, yes. And he was coming, and he was sitting there, and he was sitting in meditation, and he was giving this. Already in this, yeah, Manohar, yeah, yeah. So that place I'm telling you, and there was sitting one man, and it was called, very called there, yeah. So I have a room, and this, and I'm going out, going out, and in the morning, sana, one old man now, very... A man sitting here. Anybody coming, he's looking this side or that side. Nobody's talking. So one day I said, "Hello, sir, how are you?" And he said, "Yes, please. Can you speak with me?" I said, "Yes, I can speak with you in English or in German a little bit." He was a very great person, sitting there in the sun. He said, "Please, can you sit beside me?" I said, "Yes." And then he told me this: "I am a very great person." There were many people around him. He had two, three, four people on this side and that, and then a person was coming to bring him things, everybody attending. He had only one daughter. His wife died. And his daughter went to Germany. When he tells her something, she says, "Yes, father, if we had a part in common, this is good." She didn't come here. They got a little house somewhere. All his house, all his money, everything, he said, "My friend, my life is not anymore. I was very great. Whenever I went anywhere in our countries here, people would come, 'Oh, this is the best brother is coming.'" But when he was like this, nobody saw him at all. It comes inside like this. That is why we ourselves should have no killing, no doing this and that. And if you have something to give, we should give. Yes, we should give something. If someone is really in need—people are giving in a hostel somewhere and they are eating there, but one person has no money, so he goes slowly, slowly, and sits somewhere—you can give him something. And it is said, "Yes, yes, karma." This karma, it is the karma of everybody. Karma. Karma. Karma. We had given, I think, today or two, three days ago, I was giving a lecture here that year. So, very nice that it is. Which bhajan was that? Something? What? I don't know. What did he say? She always speaks German. Yes. And so I cannot hear very much. We didn't Deutsch. I feel like, yeah, so it is so. And when there is too much money, then many more things come which are not good. All that is being done, and all have money, and they throw it, and this and that. But if somebody gives to somebody, they will say, "No, nothing. Who is that?" You go and give so much money in a restaurant, but when you go outside and see some persons there, you will not give them one rupee. This is that human. And so, human, oh human. So it is said, there should be no humans anymore, because they will kill more and more and more. So this is that. Now you said, "Your forebrother, go and help him." Of course, help, and no meat, and no alcohol, and do not give this death. And do something good, if it is possible. Namah sabhādasu prabho, namah yoma, namah śrī prabhodī.
