Memorial Tributes and Spiritual Teachings: Honoring Kṛṣṇa Nānjī’s Legacy in Vép

The remembrance of Kṛṣṇa Nānjī’s life reveals core spiritual teachings.

Kṛṣṇa Nānjī built a team of dedicated organizers. The spiritual guide was welcomed to Hungary in 1978. The first Yoga in Daily Life book was released in 1984. Thousands received the teachings. A vegetarian lifestyle was popularized in difficult times. Protecting animals upholds non-harm, Ahiṃsā. The guiding principle values one gram of practice over a ton of theory. All people were met with equal regard. From poverty to royalty, everyone was seen as a child of God. Service was given without questioning why or when. This unconditional action is a lesson for youth. The seminar continues in that spirit. This location welcomes seekers from many countries. A memorial is planned in lasting honor. Gatherings for yoga camps and bhajans persist. The legacy inspires continued selfless work.

"One gram of practice is much, much more valuable than a ton of theory."

"He never asked, 'Why do you need it?' or 'When should I stop?'"

Mr. Vilmos C. was the leader of the student hostel, and from the beginning, he was the person who supported Károly and helped him to create this series of seminars here in our school. Those two men were truly a great team together. We should remember him, and we should realize those plans which were dreamed by Károly Kovács. You are welcome to our city here in Vép in the future as well. We must do this together. And as our usual farewell greeting here in Vép goes, "Vép is with you." Thank you very much for your attention. Our Kṛṣṇa Nānjī, our Mr. Károly Kovács, was a great organizer, and he had a very good relationship with us organizers. He built a great team, and many of us have beautiful memories with him. We would like to share a few of these memories with you. I would like to ask my guru brother, Dr. Géza Márk Śrīvapurī, to come and please say a few words about your memories with Kṛṣṇa Nānjī. Please come here, Śrīvapurījī. Károly was a truly great organizer, and in our organization, we organizers reflect upon this deeply and keep beautiful memories in connection with it. Now I would like to ask my organizer, Śrīvapurījī, who is the representative of our Hungarian organization, the Fellowship. He is the fellowship representative of our Hungarian Yoga in Daily Life organization. He will say a few words about Kṛṣṇa Nānjī. I would like to welcome Viśvagurujī, the Swamis, and the international community in the name of the International Śrī Dīp Madhavānanda Āśram Fellowship Society. I would like to welcome dear Viśvagurujī and all of our participants in the name of the International Yoga in Daily Life Fellowship. This organization is present on all continents, perhaps except Antarctica, and it is present in many, many countries. Its main duty is to guarantee the quality of Yoga in Daily Life, and its second main duty is to represent the humanitarian activities in India. He was the first to welcome Viśvagurujī in Hungary in 1978, together with his dear wife Amṛtānandjī, who is here with us today. I would like to highlight only a few of his many, many activities. The first yoga book, the first "Yoga in Daily Life" book in Hungary, and one of the first Hungarian yoga books, was released by him in 1984, and it had many, many copies, like ten thousand or one hundred thousand. A second volume followed just four years later. It is very hot here in this place. I must just say a few, three things that are probably typical of Kṛṣṇa Nānjī. The first and perhaps most important thing is that he was a vegetarian, and he popularized this lifestyle, this philosophy of life, at a time when it was not yet known in Hungary. He made a lot of effort to make a vegetarian lifestyle more popular in Hungary when it was truly difficult. Scientific facts prove that eating meat is so harmful to health, but it is also very important that if we do not kill animals, we uphold the principles of Ahiṃsā, non-harm. If we protect the animals, we are following the path of Ahiṃsā. The second point I would like to highlight is Kṛṣṇa Nānjī’s motto, which he learned from Viśvagurujī: one gram of practice is much, much more valuable than a ton of theory. Another important aspect of Kṛṣṇānandajī’s personality is that he managed to find a way to talk with everyone. The first āśram in Budapest, the Guru Āśram, was inaugurated in 1980 with Viśvagurujī and his master, Holī Gurujī. This area of Budapest is home to many poor people living in poverty. When we had programs in the surrounding parks, many local people would just come and join us, and he had a really good relationship with those people as well. On the other side of the social hierarchy, we had the respect to host the Mahārājā of Jodhpur here in Vép, and also the Prince of Liechtenstein. Kṛṣṇānandjī could talk in a very friendly way with them too, because for him, all of us are equal; we are children of God. It does not matter what financial situation or social position one has. Even though Kṛṣṇa Nānjī left us nearly three years ago, we still organize this seminar in his spirit, building on the connections and with the people who established a relationship with him. We would like to thank him, and also we would like to thank Viśvagurujī’s blessing and the work of the karma yogīs. Thank you for your attention. Thank you. Śrī Dīp Nārāyaṇa Bhagavān, Kī Jai. Paramahaṁsa Yogānandajī Mahārāja, Kī Jai. Viśvaguru Mahāmaṇḍaleśvara, Paramahaṁsa Svayī Māheśvarānandajī, Gurudeva, Kī Jai. Hari Om. It is beautiful for us and for this world, but here, this world is very, very great. Hari Om. This is a wonderful place for us. The whole country, the whole world is very beautiful, but this is a particularly good place. In this country, in this region, this is one of the best places here, and everybody is coming. Among the neighboring countries, this is one of the best places, because everyone can come here. Many people come, going and coming, and you can always see that. Many people come here, and in this place, nobody tells you anything. They are very peaceful to everybody, and that is the very best, I am telling you. I was here many times, and we will all stay here, and they will help us so that we can come here. We are here from many, many countries. They might not even know the language, you know, like Australia. You know Australia? They come from Australia. We have a guest from Australia as well. Yes, he came here for this. Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Canada—all are coming here to this country. And our Swami, my disciples, were here, so it was very good. I think I want our country, your countries, and yes, if they can bring this Swāmī, we can bring him here to some beautiful place here somewhere. And here we can make a memorial for Kṛṣṇa Nānjī in a very beautiful environment, with a very beautiful picture. Somewhere here or there, somewhere. We will make, if you want, a very nice little something. Here somewhere in this square, and if you would like, we can also put a statue there—if the mayor will allow it. So thank you very much, and we will speak about that another time. You see that we are very happy and very good, but also we are not good because so far we are, therefore we will not go, yes? So, this village is very great. And we have been here many, many times. People are coming from many, many countries; they are coming in great numbers. They are very good; they make it possible for us to be here. If we have any need, they always come and help us. So this day was very great for us and for this whole village. So we will not speak further now. Otherwise, we come tomorrow evening there, and we can come for bhajan. Next time I come in the evening, and she will dance. The dancing is very nice. Next time we can have a very, very nice gathering. Our whole community will come. Thank you very much. Why do you ask? When do you want me to do it? And when should I end it? This is what I would like to give to the youth of today. It is very hard to say a few words after these beautiful speeches, but I would like to mention one thing that was very important for Kṛṣṇānand. When Viśvagurujī asked him to do something, he never asked, "Why do you need it?" or "When?" or "When should I stop?" I would like to give this message to the youth. Thank you very much, Viśvagurujī, for making it possible for us to remember Kṛṣṇa Nānjī, our leader. I would like to present our latest edition, the Golden Jubilee book, the fifty-year summary of Swāmījī’s work, the images and memories of the last decades of his work. Now we would like to present it to the mayor, with a fresh dedication from Viśvagurujī. We would like to give one copy of this Golden Jubilee book, which commemorates the last five decades of work. Mahāprabhujī kī Jai. We turn now to the school area, to our yoga camp, and continue our program. Dear friends, thank you very much for coming, so that we could remember Kṛṣṇa Nānjī together. Today, on this beautiful, very warm day, we will finish our program here and return to the yoga camp to continue the program there. Thank you very much indeed. Hari Om.
