We are never old for yoga

A closing address summarizing a weekend spiritual seminar.

"One topic was our vegetarian food... from Viśvagurujī, we learn the main reason: ahiṃsā paramodharma."

"What we learned from Viśva Gurujī is that it is very important to know how to say 'No' to ourselves."

A speaker concludes a seminar, sharing insights from Viśvagurujī. Key themes include the spiritual principle of non-violence (ahiṃsā) behind vegetarianism, the subtle dangers of the Kali Yuga era, and the importance of steadfast spiritual practice, likened to receiving a protective vaccination. The talk also looks forward to the opening of Om Āśram, emphasizing the need for inner spiritual readiness over mere external form.

Praṇām Gurudev, Hari Om. First, we have an announcement. Blanka Ternhalova from České Budějovice passed away on the 12th of this month. During her life, she donated a large statue of Śiva, which now stands next to the altar. A disciple from České Budějovice has kindly asked for prayers for her soul. Now, this weekend seminar is slowly coming to a close. For all of us, I think it was truly a great time. We had the opportunity and time with Viśva Govindjī, and we also heard, perhaps not so much in quantity but very rich in substance, from Viśvagurujī. They were rare words from Viśvagurujī. One topic was our vegetarian food. I will not say the food itself is most important, but it is important to understand its meaning. We had excellent food here, and although the food is not the most important thing in itself, it is very important for us to understand what it is all about. Nowadays, there are many people who are vegetarian, vegan, and so on, but most of them are so for health reasons. Here, from Viśvagurujī, we learn the main reason: ahiṃsā paramodharma. What does it mean to truly understand ahiṃsā? We don't need to explain to anybody why. It is healthy, it is good, and so on. Just like today, we don't need to explain, "I don't eat humans." For me, it's normal not to eat humans, and you don't need to explain whether it's healthy or not. The same principle applies to anything that is alive. What we heard is that the influence of Kali Yuga is now increasing. Everything enters through small doors. That is why Gaṇeśajī controls the mouth and keeps that mouse under control. What does the mouse symbolize? It symbolizes various small deviations, such as entropy and inflation. Inflation in spirituality is just like a mouse—small, little. "I will sit with these people. I will just smell this and come." In the end, we find ourselves who knows where. Inflation in the spiritual world means you make a small deviation; for example, you say, "No, I don't eat this, but at least I smell it." What we learned from Viśva Gurujī is that it is very important to know how to say "No" to ourselves. I think that is perhaps something truly great that we gained from this seminar: to understand that we are in this Kali Yuga, and it approaches so gently that we do not realize we are being caught by that tiger. A very important message from this seminar with Viśva Gurujī is to realize we are in Kali Yuga, which ensnares us in ways we don't even perceive, and immediately that tiger catches us. We also learned this weekend that a yogī is like ghee. You know that with aging, ghee only improves in quality. Ghee that is a hundred years old becomes a medicine for almost everything. What does it mean that the best karma yogī starts at 100 years? That is a truly great lesson, because very easily people say, "Oh, I am old." And that is this little mouse: "I'm old." We are never too old for yoga. We are never too old for our sādhanā. I realized: why is an old yogī better than a young yogī? Because they have been practicing yoga for 50 years, and that is the great thing. Practicing, practicing, practicing changes us. We have now received one injection. This injection is against Kali Yuga. And we need to keep practicing to have an even better immune system, to survive this time. Truly, we need to become good yogīs, not only for ourselves. It is also very important that when we return home, we bring this light of Viśvagurujī with us into our family, our ashram, our city, and continue to work. Thank you for this vaccination. It is a good vaccination, but we also need to practice. Very soon, next week, all of us will prepare for the opening of Om Āśram. What is also important for opening Om Āśram, I think, is that we come to the opening in good condition. Not physical condition, okay? We will be in good physical condition, but in spiritual condition. Because if we come to the opening of the āśram in good physical condition but not in spiritual condition, it will perhaps be just... nice functioning. But if we come with our spiritual practice, we will be, I hope, able to feel what is truly the opening of our heart. Just as with vegetarian food—it is healthy, and I will be healthy—or we understand that it is the Ahiṃsā Paramadharma, the highest religion, the highest principle. Or, regarding Om Āśram: we will be opening a nice, large building in the shape of Om, but we know that in reality we are opening something that will signify a great change for the spirituality of us and all humanity. That is just a subtle difference. Our perspective, how we approach everything—our āsanas, our prāṇāyāma, our food, and our āśram—is a subtle difference that will create a change in how we practice, how we perceive the opening of the āśram, and all other things. With the blessings of Viśvagurujī, I hope that all of us will understand this deeper meaning of all these things.
