Jaya Ram!

The recitation of the Sundara Kāṇḍa, the beautiful fifth book of the Rāmāyaṇa, is performed to welcome Rāma to his temple. This section narrates Hanumān's journey to Lanka, his devotion, and his meeting with Sītā. It details his encounters with demons, his wise counsel to Vibhīṣaṇa, and the gathering of the monkey army. The core teaching is that remembrance and devotion to Rāma are the glorious path. Without divine grace, one cannot attain true fellowship, and without fellowship, one cannot attain spiritual discernment. All strength and success flow from devotion to the Lord.

"Rāma kājūkārī phira me āvāṁ, Sītā kaisē udhī prabhu hī sunāvauṁ." (I have come to do Rama's work; how Sita is, only the Lord can tell.)

"Sunu daśamukha dyota prakāśa, Kabahu ki nā linha karai bhāśā." (Listen, ten-faced one, radiant like light, when have I ever taken back my word?)

Today we are blessed ones, the luckiest ones, for we have received the opportunity to see the Śrī Rāmavandirī temple building, and God Rāma has again come after 500 years to His temple. On that occasion, our Prime Minister Modi Ji requested each and every ashram and temple to perform Sundarakāṇḍ on the 22nd of January to welcome God Rāma to His temple. So today we are singing Sundara Kaṇḍ. It is the fifth volume of the Rāmāyaṇa. The Rāmāyaṇa has six parts, and there are seven volumes. This is the fifth one, Sundara Kāṇḍa. Puni hanumāna Part 2: The Glorious Path of Remembrance and Devotion When remembrance and worship occur, how many tales are there of the Lord? Even by conquering enemies, meaning, listen, Janaki, the monkey is also considered an equal benefactor. There is no one else. Taking the form of a god, human, or sage, for whose benefit do you perform every service? It does not become your mouth. Listen, all my mind, in the core of my heart, I see nothing else. Again and again in my mind, I remember the monkey, the gods, and the pilgrimage sites. Behold, in an instant, hearing the Lord's words, seeing the expression on his face, Hanumanta, filled with joy, fell at his feet, overcome with love. Immersed in that love, he arose. The Lord placed his lotus hand on the monkey's head. He began to speak, a very beautiful monkey arose. He embraced the Lord's heart, took his hand, and stood firm. Which monkey, protected by Ravana in Lanka, is very crooked, devoid of other compassion? The Lord, pleased with his devotee Hanumana, spoke words devoid of pride. The friendship of the immortals is a great humanity; friendship surpasses friendship. The king of serpents, the city of the demons, the herds of demons, the troops of elephants, the forest was cleared. All that was the splendor of Raghurai; nothing of my power, O Lord. Therefore, I say, O Lord, nothing is unknown; you know what is favorable. Then, taking a great arrow, he burned all the wicked clans. O Lord, devotion is the giver of happiness; bestow your grace, O unfailing one. Hearing the supremely straightforward words of the monkey, the Lord then said, "So be it." He whose nature is known as Umārama, to him is brought the treasure of worship. The message that comes from the sun, that devotion to the feet of Ragupati alone attains. Hearing the Lord's words, the troop of monkeys... "Victory, victory... O compassionate one, source of happiness." Then the Lord of the Raghus, the Lord of the monkeys, called. He said, "Let us go, let us make a great noise. Why delay now? Quickly, tell the monkeys to come." Seeing the spectacle, the gods showered flowers in delight. The monkey army, filled with enthusiasm, moved towards the city. The monkey lord, seeing them, called out. They came, shining with various lights. The monkey army, the bears, and the great heroes arrived. The Lord's lotus feet thundered. The mighty bear... Seeing this, Rama, with his entire monkey army, observed. With his lotus-eyed grace, the monkey lord, by Rama's grace and strength, recognized his own. The mountain of the mind rejoiced, seeing the auspicious signs in your movement, O beautiful-faced one. He whose fame is entirely auspicious, his movement is considered auspicious here. The movement of the Lord, the devotee, the left side of Vaidehi's body throbbed, as if indicating something. Whatever auspicious signs are known, if inauspiciousness occurs, fear does not reside in the heart. Moving, some bears and monkeys roared on the path. With nails as weapons, carrying mountains, they moved through the sky as they wished. Some made deer-like sounds, bears and monkeys roared, shaking the elephants of the directions. The elephants of the directions trumpeted, mountains trembled, the ocean was filled. All the Gandharvas, Vasus, sages, Nagas, and Kinnaras rejoiced. They sing the qualities of the victorious Lord Rama of mighty prowess, the skilled one, the Lord. The entire army, its belly filled, marched on, intoxicated. How, again and again, is the hard back of the tortoise so beautiful? How is the beautiful journey of the Raghu hero so splendid, knowing the situation? Extremely beautiful, as if the tortoise shell, the skull, the snake, and the dust are writing a disappearing script. In this way, the compassionate-minded one went. Upon reaching the northern shore of the ocean, where they camped for a moment, the great monkey and bear heroes. There the demons remained, fearful, when the army encamped. Everyone in their own homes deliberated, saving the family of the demon clan. He whose strength cannot be withstood by the powerful, what good can come from him approaching the city? Hearing the news of the city, the people could not bear it; Mandodari became extremely agitated. She remained, wringing her hands, becoming frantic, speaking words full of political wisdom. "In your family, a garden of lotuses giving sorrow, Sita, Sita, night and day comes. A herd of demons like Ramban, the world knows them as arrogant. Rama Sita, Rama Sita, Rama, victory, victory to Rama. Rama Sita, Rama, Sita Rama, victory, victory to Rama." All the women auspiciously gathered. True auspiciousness has arisen. The mind is very fickle, which now dies, cutting and cutting, the poor one lives. Eating grass at night, the people tremble and go in fear, but that woman, with all, laughs greatly. Saying such things, she will stir up the wicked, she went, her maternal affection increased greatly. Mandodari's heart was pierced with fear, extremely, by contrary advice. "Son, the news has come, the army has arrived on the shore of the ocean." They conquered the gods, all the gods, then they have no effort. Taking the earth from the hands of men... Rama Sita, Rama Sita, Rama, victory, victory to Rama. Rama Sita, Rama Sita, Rama, victory, victory to Rama. The minister, whose own preceptor is dear, spoke only out of fear. The duty of a king, if it becomes the cause of destruction, is quickly destroyed. That very Ravana, I tell you, became supportive. They praise, making him hear again and again. Vibhishana arrived for dismissal. Bowing his head at the conduct of the vow, again sitting on the seat of victory, he spoke words receiving instruction. "O compassionate one, you asked, I speak the form of the intellect, constantly the form of the intellect, beneficial. Whoever desires their own welfare, good intellect, good destiny, various happinesses. Besides, women sport, O Lord, abandon the fourth state, there is no moon of the fourteenth. The fourteen worlds become one husband. One who hates beings does not remain, I see the man in the city of the ocean of qualities. No one is a boy of greed, desire-anger-pride-greed-all-Lord-the path to hell-all-avoiding-O Lord-worship-worship-victory-O saints." "Therefore, Rama is not a human protector, the Lord of the world, time, and the great time. Brahma, imperishable, unborn, divine, all-pervading, unconquered, beginningless, infinite. Making enmity with him, O mother, the destroyer of the distress of the supplicants, the Lord of the Raghus, the giver. Give, O Lord, to Vaidehi, worship Rama without cause, love. Those who have taken refuge, the Lord, the great abandonment, world-hating, done, ignorant. He whose name is the shelter from the three afflictions, that Lord, clearly, will kill Ravana." "Again and again, I bow, O remover of obstacles, the ten-headed one. Giving up delusion and pride, worship the Lord of Kosala. The sage Pulastya, his own head, on the seat, told something, quickly from that, the Lord, adorned, obtained a bodily form. Malyavant, that Shiva's bed, his words are to be heard, not to be heard. Happiness, no, therefore, younger brother, your policy, Vibhishana. Take the form of a hero, whatever Vibhishana, enemy's side, how to make him true? Do not distance, whatever there is, someone, Malyavant's house went outside. Vibhishana says again, folding his hands." "Good intellect and bad intellect are everyone's own, O Lord, the Puranas and Vedas cannot do so. Day and night, demon, the love for Sita is very dense. Therefore, holding the feet, ask for protection, my dear. Give Sita, to Rama let there be no harm, your intellect, Purana, Veda-approved speech." Vibhishana spoke words of policy. Hearing, the ten-faced one arose in anger, "Wretch, near you death is certain, you always live as a traitor, my life, enemy's side, fool, you are thought. You said, entered in some conspiracy, go, understand strength, conquer me there." "In my city, showing affection to the ascetic, meet truly, victory is only to morality." Saying so, for a moment, holding the brother's feet, indeed a boon, Uma, saints, this only increases, evil, whoever does good. The minister, with all, went to the path of the sky. All hear, saying fearlessly. "Rama is of true resolve, Lord, all time is under your control. My dense shelter is without fear, where you go, give the daughter of Janaka." Saying so, Vibhishana left, then all became afraid. Rama Sita, Rama, Sita Rama, victory, victory to Rama. Rama Sita, Rama, Sita Rama, victory, victory to Rama. "Instantly, O goddess, bad words. Doing good to all, loss." Rama Sita, Rama Sita, Rama, victory, victory to Rama. Rama Sita, Rama Sita, Rama. "When Ravana abandoned Vibhishana, fear, world-prosperity, without support, praised. The movement of the gods, the qualities, reaching, fulfilling desires. Honoring, giving the water of the feet, where the red, tender servant, giver of happiness. The footwear, the husband kept in mind, those feet, today, see, unworthy, alas..." "The news, all told, what? Sugriva heard, Raghurai. Came, meeting, all brothers', Lord, friend, where did you say? What, monkeys, hear, O Lord of men, knowing, victory, demon's illusion. Why, form, for what reason came? Secret, ours, to take, with came, kept bound, me, impossible. Friend, morality, yours, considered, maternal, shelter-seeker, fear-destroyer." Hearing the Lord's words, the sage Hanumana, the shelter-seeking, changeless Lord. "Shelter-seeking, whoever abandons, their own harm, inferring, for them, wretched, sinner, illusion, three, not seeing, loss, crores, even, power, strikes, go. Come to shelter, do not abandon, him, in front, become. My life, whenever crores of sins suffer, then sin, possessing, make good conduct. My worship, that house's, will do. Whoever wicked heart, that becomes, my front, without front, that. Pure mind person, he me attains, me, deceit, fraud, piercing, world. To take secret, path, bad, head. Caught, in a moment, in the blink of an eye, so much. Whoever, frightened, opportunity, not, kept him, life, not. Means, there, not, compassionate, said." Saying "Victory, O compassionate one," the monkey left with Angada and others. Immediately from there, the monkey army went where the compassionate Ragupati was. From afar, the two brothers saw, the givers of the gift of bliss to the eyes. Again and again, Rama, of fourfold splendor, beheld. They remained, about to rise, for a moment looking, long arms, lotus-petal-red eyes, dark body, destroyer of the fear of the supplicants. Lion-like neck, broad chest shining, infinite, charming, mind-enchanting, eyes, nectar, very full. Mind holding patience, said soft words. "O Lord, the ten-faced one's actions are great, day and night, demon, good people, god-protector. Innate sin, beloved, own body, born, owl, evil, covering. Hearing the good fame, empty, O Lord, destroyer of the fear of existence, save, save, destroyer of distress, shelter, happiness, dense." Saying so, doing prostrations, seeing. Hearing the pitiful words, the Lord's mind was pleased. Embracing with his vast arms, he brought him to his heart. With his brother, meeting, made him sit for a long time. Simple words, the devotee, destroyer of fear. "How is the Lord of Lanka with his family? Your residence is auspicious? The wicked company, residence, bad people, true religion, how to say? I know your entire conduct, very clever, the calculation of existence. Dweller in the city of the enemy, the creator of hell, wicked company, know, O creator, gives the body. Seeing this state, the auspicious Raghurai, what is your own birth-giving? Then, auspiciousness cannot be said to be life, even in dream, or mind rest. As long as one does not worship, say Rama, sorrow, abode, giving up. Then, in the heart dwell the wicked. Greed, intoxication, delusion, demon, intoxication, mind, as long as in the heart dwell, Raghunatha holds the bow, arrow, waist, soldier. Attachment, youth, I, blind, passion, hatred, owl, happiness-giver. Then, as long as dwells in the living being's mind, as long as without the Lord's splendor. Now I am auspicious, the destroyer of fear has ended. Seeing Rama's lotus feet, yours, you are compassionate, to whom favorable, they protect, the hunter, threefold, happy. I, that demon, drive away, base, good conduct, good behavior, why not sing? Servant form, sage's meditation, come, then Lord, in heart, me, gain, oh, fortune, infinite, and Rama's grace, happiness, heap, seeing, eyes, Brahma, Shiva." "Janabhusundi, Sambhagiri, whatever person becomes, hater of all beings, comes, frightened, to shelter, me, give up intoxication, delusion, deceit, movement, do quickly, saint, equal, wealth, Janaka's brother, daughter, body, wealth, house, faith, filled, all, my, father, brother, collecting. My, Lord, bond, tie, equal-seeing, desire, choose, joy, sorrow, fear, not, mind, hope, person, my, heart, dwells, how? Greedy heart, dwells, wealth, as, you, all, play, saint, dear, O. He whose two feet have love, hear, Lord of Lanka, all qualities, yours, therefore, you are very dear, O Rama." Hearing the words, the monkey army, all said, "Victory," filled with compassion. Hearing Vibhishana, the Lord's words, not hurt. Knowing the ear-filling ritual, holding the arm, gave a boon, heart, filling, love, other. "Hear, O gods, arrangement, O Lord, protector of the supplicant, heart, inner, knower. First, in the heart, desire, Lord's feet, love, river, sleeps. Now, O compassionate one, own devotion, purifying, give, O Sadashiva, mind, thought." Saying this, the Lord's heart did not waver. "O mother, the ocean is to be crossed, the ocean of actions. Stupid, to cut, desire, not, my sight, unfailing, in the world. Breath, wind, fierce, to dry up, Vibhishana, not to see, gave the kingdom, unbroken, which wealth, Shiva, not given, gave ten heads, that wealth, Vibhishana, not able to give, Raghunatha." Thus, the Lord, giving up, worship, brought, then man, animal, not ask, horn, own people, knowing, him, make own. The Lord's nature, monkey clan, mind, existence. Again, omniscient, all, rejoicing. "Hear, monkey, brave lord of Lanka. By what means to cross the deep ocean, troubled, full of crocodiles, serpents, as species, very difficult, hard to cross, all, of bad nature, hear, O Lord of Lanka, qualities, crores of oceans, dryer, ascetic, power, stupid, intellect, drink, constantly, sword, with, humility doing, ocean, conciliate, Lord, your, family, teacher, ocean, what means, consider, without effort, ocean, will cross, all bears, monkeys, holding. Friend, to say, small means, doing, god, whatever, glory, mantra, brought, mind, mind, existence. Rama's words, hearing, sorrow, get. Bow, O god, what reliance, dry up, ocean, doing, mind, sorrow. Ungrateful mind, say, one support, god, lazy, call." Hearing, smiling, spoke Raghuvira. "Just like this, do, hold, mind, steady." Saying so, the Lord, with his brother, made understand, went near the ocean, wandered. First, bowing, not sitting, then sat on the shore, on darbha grass. When Vibhishana saw the Lord, then Ravana sent a messenger. All conduct, three saw, held deceit, monkey body, Lord, qualities, singing, shelter-seeking, covering. Manifest speech not, Rama's nature, very, love, deep, hard to reach, enemy's messenger, monkey, then, known. All bound monkeys, then, saw, said, Sugriva, hear, all monkeys. "Breaking limbs, breaking arms, demon." Hearing Sugriva's words, the monkey lord. The bound army, all around, sent, many kinds of death, monkeys began. Day, call, shore, ocean, gave up, whatever, kill, nose, ear, that monkey, struck, with slaps, came. Hearing, Lakshmana, all, near, called. For the sake of compassion, smiling, instantly released. Ravana's messenger, went, path, Lakshmana, words, family, knot, said. "Mouth, speech, secret seat, my doubt, correct, Sita, meeting, not, came, time, yours." "O, quickly, take, Lakshmana, lotus-eyed one." The messenger went, describing the song of qualities. Saying Rama's glory, Ravana's feet, head, not bowing. Brother, accomplished, face, asked, matter, "How is the news of well-being?" Again say, news, lady, not, went, death, came, very dense. Doing royal, seeing, giving up, when done, fled. Again say, Bāli, Kesari, cut, hard, time, impelled, came. Whose life, doing protector, fear, age, dear, mind, ocean, consider. Of the ascetic, the matter, outside. Whose heart, fear, ascetic, mine, what happened, meeting, or went back? Hearing, good, hear, mine, say, O Lord, compassionate, ask, I, as if, say, anger, giving up, meeting, go, when, brother, yours. Wherever Rama's tilak, that weapon. Ravana's messenger, I, hearing, ear. Monkeys, bound, gave, various sorrows. Hearing, nose, ear, thorns, stuck. Rama, instantly, gave, me, abandoned. Ask, therefore, O Lord, Rama, cut. Body, crores, hundreds, filling, not possible, no, no, filling, bears, monkeys, holding. Beggar mind, vast, fear-causing. Victory, city, god, whatever, sleep, yours, all monkeys, them, table, over. Infinite name, hard, fierce, infinite snake, strength, very, full, desire. Vibhishana, Dadimukha, Kesari, Nisatha, Satha, Jamavant, strength, enthusiasm, these monkeys, all, Sugriva-equal, them-with, crores, troops, counting. Rama's grace-measured-strength, them, straw-equal, three worlds, counting. We, hear, prostrate, shoulder, lotus, seat, troop, holder, Lord, army, sorrow, monkeys, join, you, conqueror, bow, not. Supreme anger, in, victory, all, came, Supena's, qualities, told. Bridge, ocean, built, glory, shining, fill, O Lord, burden, great mountain, cross. Half, half, meet, give, servant, head, such words, say, all, monkeys? If mountain goes, if tree goes, if ocean goes, countless, I consider, swallowing, bite, Lanka. Om Sri Lakshmi Puriya Siddha Pīṭṭa Paramparā. All our great paramparas, great saints, I pray to them that this Sundarkāṇḍ part we have done, it should bring peace in our life, happiness, joy, and more spirituality, more in-joy, not out-joy, what Mahārājī is mentioning from two to three days, respected dear Mahāmaṇḍaleśvar. Sri Swami Phul Gurujī Mahārāj and Holy Gurujī were also always saying, "We have to always enjoy which one?" Enjoy, so when you get enjoyment when you do satsaṅg. Without satsaṅg, we do not get viveka. Without Rama kṛpā, without the blessing of our beloved Gurudev Mahāprabhujī or God Rama, we cannot get the satsaṅg, and without satsaṅg, we cannot get the viveka. So this is the blessing of our divine paramparā of God Rama. You were listening yesterday, day before yesterday, about God Rama, and today it was a great celebration of the opening ceremony of God Rama. And, same like that, soon we will also have Om Āśram opening. So we are all prepared for that, so we should get more energy. May Hanumanjī give us more power, more energy, so that we can do our Om Ashram celebration very nicely and greatly. Thank you. And I would like to request dear Mahāmaṇḍala Śrī Svāmī Phulpurījī Mahārāj, he will give us some satsaṅg about this Rama temple, about God Rama. If you have time, we can do five minutes or ten minutes, whatever. Yeah, thank you. Śrī Rām Jaya Rām Jaya Jaya Rām, Śrī Rām Jaya Rām Jaya Jaya Rām, Śrī Rām Jaya Rām Jaya Jaya Rām...
