The Guru’s Light: Awakening the Inner Temple
The Guru brings light.
Gu is darkness, Ru is light; the Guru is the light-giver. The light came but darkness did not accept it. To bow at the Guru’s feet is to accept that light in the heart. The Guru builds exterior stone temples and also the interior human temple. A temple’s dome has seven layers, mirroring the seven cakras. The kalaśa atop the dome receives Śiva’s universal energy. That energy awakens the earth element and flows to Mūlādhāra Cakra. Kuṇḍalinī Śakti awakens and rises through the cakras. Consciousness placed in Maṇipūra Cakra marks the halfway point. Kuṇḍalinī is that light, consciousness itself. Spiritual meaning and beauty require the rising of this inner light. This light emanates from Maṇipūra. Guru Tattva provides the strength to develop that light. Without Guru Tattva, ignorance and darkness persist. Receiving the Guru into the heart kindles the inner light brighter. Then one becomes truly human and fulfills life’s dharma—this is the Guru’s prasāda.
“Gu is darkness, Ru is light, and the Guru is the one who brings the light.”
“When our consciousness is in the Maṇipūra Cakra, we are all halfway—the goal is halfway reached.”
