A Tapestry of Devotional Prayers and Bhajans

A teaching on inner light, non-dual realization, and steadfast practice.

The teaching presents the path to the inner light and non-dual realization. Kindle the heart's flame with the divine light. Dispelling darkness, unite the individual light with the universal. The Satguru's direction reveals the true Self within. Oil in seed, fire in wood, fragrance in flower—all powers lie dormant. One is the temple, deity, priest, pilgrim, and river. "You are me and I am You"—non-duality is the essence of scriptures. Strength is life; weakness is death. Face inner demons with mantra and concentration; dissolve them. Long for divine vision; it liberates from ignorance. Satsang is highest; leave worldly ties. Meditate on So'ham; break chains of birth and death. The holy name purifies all. Touch the master's feet to recognize the Self. Through the fire of practice, reach the goal swiftly. All sorrows uproot when the inner light unites with the source.

"You are me and I am You—we are not separate."

"Strength is life, weakness is death."

Filming location: Debrecen, Hungary

The next bhajan, or prayer, is “Jyoti se Jyoti Jagāvo”—kindle the light of my heart with Your flame. Let Your light dispel all darkness. Please, Sadhguru, bring light into my heart. You are the Lord of wisdom, pervading everything and yet transcending all. Be merciful and deliver Your children. Kindle Your light in my heart. We, Your children, wait at Your door. Appear in Your beauty. Awaken Your flame within me. We pray for Your mercy; grant us the nectar of Your love and unite the light of my heart with Yours. For so many years this power has lain dormant within us. Awaken this śakti. Enlighten my heart with Your light. This flame in my heart was never growing, but when I met You, the sound of So’ham awakened in me. Please unite the light of my heart with Yours. Śrī Dīp Nārāyaṇ Bhagavān Kī Jai. Next bhajan: “Merā Satguru Dīyo Iśāro.” Through the teaching of my Satguru, I am now aware of my true Self. Like oil in the seed, fire in wood, fragrance in a flower, my true Self is all within. I am the temple, I am the God in the temple, and I am the priest in the temple. I am a pilgrim on pilgrimage, I am the holy river. I am the mālā and the third eye on the forehead. I am Sūmaran and Navadhā Bhakti; I sing the praise of my own greatness. I am the disciple and I am the master. I am the light of the sun, the stars, and lightning. You are me and I am You—we are not separate. Swāmī Dīp says, “This is the essence of the Gītā and all holy scriptures.” So we know: we are not separate, we are one. One with the highest Self; all is one with the highest Self. This must be realized. Śrī Dīp Nārāyaṇa Bhagavān Kī Jai. Śrī Dīp Nārāyaṇ Bhagavān He Jai. Now, again in English, a bhajan from Swami Vivekānanda: Strength is life, weakness is death. So pull yourself together and give what you have. All powers lie within you; rise up now and work it out. Cultivate strength of mind, help all others, and keep meditation and high ideals. Always face the devil—never show him your heels. Face the devil inside: whatever is not good in our thoughts or feelings, we must face it, not push it aside. Then we will be free. Dissolve it with our mantra, and we will become persons of infinite strength. So play your game. Our life? Never take things too seriously. Your own true nature must reveal itself. What happens outside is not the reality. Let the stream of consciousness flow constantly. There we are strong. To reach that state, without fire you will never go higher. Face it internally: look at what is strong, what is not good, what disturbs you, and with your mantra and concentration dissolve it. Then you will be free. Keep this fire burning, and we will reach the goal in no time. Śrī Dīp Nārāyaṇa Bhagavān Kī Jai, Śrī Śrī Viśvagundāśa Paramāsvāmī Mahāśvarānandajī Guru Dev Kī Jai. Śrī Dīp Nārāyaṇa Bhagavān Kī Jai, Śrī Śivayasa Gondasaparama Svāmījī Gurujī Devakī Jai. By the forest, dusk descended. My cloak beneath my head I spread. I joined my hands in silent prayer. To God above I laid my care: “O Lord, I beg Thee, grant me rest. This roaming life weighs on my chest. This endless march, this exile’s fate, to dwell on soil, to desolate. May God now grant a peaceful night and send His angel, pure and bright, to guard our dreams and give us grace. May God bring peace to this night’s face.” The second: erdők, mezők, vad, ligetek. (Forests, fields, wild groves, but I’ve been through a lot with you.) I went there with the wild ones, with cooing pigeons. My God, please arrange accommodation. I am tired of hiding, hiding in the green forest, the big run in a flat field. O, our gracious good friend, we greet you today, and we wish you many good things. Long life, long life, … John. Blessed is the hour and minute in which you were born, that you were baptized in the name of Saint John. Long live, long live, long, long live John. And the fourth one: The bright sun has now set. The earth remains in darkness. Daylight turned to night, bringing rest to the weary. Let us consider, my dear God, so that I may not have to fear for my soul, so that I can speak more boldly when I have to stand before You. Next bhajan: “Hameśā Kāma Satsaṅga Se.” I love this satsaṅg. Szeretem a satsaṅgot. It doesn’t matter what other people will say, what they want—even father, mother, brother, sister. I will leave everything to others, including my possessions. I will let myself meditate on the highest, and when all dissolves in meditation, let it dissolve. Menedékemet kerestem Gurudev lábánál. And he broke these chains of birth and death. If others still want to follow their karma, let them go. Sing of the glory of my Guru Dev. And when this worldly attachment breaks, let it break. I will repeat the mantra So’ham. With this mantra, I will attain Self-realization, and all the burden of sins will fall away—let it fall away. He is blessed for all times; brilliant is his light. Mahāprabhujī says, “My Master, I am at Your lotus feet, and when it will unite, so let it be.” Next bhajan: “Itanā to Karanā Gurujī.” Please give me Your darśan that I may see You. I am caught in the net of ignorance and doubts. Please come quickly, my Lord, and save me. To see You, to have Your darśan, is so holy that it liberates from all sins. Let my heart be a place, Your palace. My heart longs for this. Please come quickly and grant me Your darśan. Through the nectar of Your words, we can behold the form of the highest. Your words calm and purify all sorrows. Please, come quickly; give me Your darśan. Hadd láthassalak. (Let me see you.) When I touch Your lotus feet, all sorrows will be uprooted. When I touch Your feet, I can see, I can recognize my ātmā. Please give me Your darśan. To repeat Your holy name is so uplifting; this is the essence of all meditations. The world cannot offer this. Swamiji said of this, the world is boring. Please come quickly and give me Your darśan. All glory to the masters we are singing. By doing this, we will not have to return to this world of ignorance. Ācārya Rāmjī attained liberation in this way. Please come and give me Your darśan.
