Mansik Puja to Vishwaguruji

A guided meditation and puja for a guru's birthday.

"Today, on the beautiful occasion of Gurudeva’s birthday... we might physically not be able to be with Gurudeva... but mentally we all can, with our heart, with our devotion, with our full being."

"As a guru, Gurudev cannot fix himself. That is going against the laws. Gurudev can fix all of us, heal all of us. But our prayers and our love are the only things that can give him the strength."

A speaker guides viewers through a detailed mental worship (Mānasik Pūjā) for Gurudeva's birthday. Participants are led to visualize the guru, perform paduka puja, light a lamp, offer āratī, flowers, and prostrations, and finally offer food. The meditation concludes with expressions of gratitude and prayers for the guru's health, the disciples' spiritual progress, and universal peace.

Hari Om, and good morning to all of you who are present here and who are watching through Swamijī TV. Today, on the beautiful occasion of Gurudeva’s birthday according to the Indian calendar, we might physically not be able to be with Gurudeva in Jhadan, but mentally we all can, with our heart, with our devotion, with our full being. Everyone, please close your eyes. Gurudeva is inside of each and every one. Visualize in your heart that he is sitting in front of you, and we are sitting in front of him. He is sitting on his beautiful throne, on his gāḍī, and we all, disciples, are sitting in front of his lotus feet. Individually, Gurudeva is sitting in front of each and every one of us. So we all can simultaneously perform Guru Pādukā Pūjā and apply Tilak to his lotus feet. Paduka Pooja means the worship of his lotus feet. With your ring finger, dip it into the Tilak which you have next to you, and apply it to the rise on his right big toe, the right toe, while chanting: Namah Sanantaya Sahasra Murtayye, sahasra pādākṣi śiro rohāve. Sahasra nāmne puruṣāya śāśvate, sahasra koṭi yajñadhārine namaḥ. Kamalānābhāya namaste, jalasāyine namaste. Keśavananda Vāsudeva, namo’stu. Vāsudevasya vāsanā, ambuvanantrayam. Sarvabhūtāni Vāsose Vāsudeva Namos te. Now we will light the dīpak which we have created. This is a Mānasik Pūjā, a mental worship, so the Pūjā plate, the Dīpak, and all the items can be of whichever metal you want: gold, silver, diamond, whatever you can imagine. It should be as grand and as big as possible. We are performing Mānasik Pūjā. Your thālī, prepared for the Pūjā, is prepared according to your imagination, just as you would wish. We are lighting the dīpak. We light the Deepak. Now we will perform āratī with that deepak for Gurudeva’s lotus feet, and for Gurudeva himself: four rounds of āratī to his lotus feet, three rounds to his heart, two rounds on his face, and seven rounds to the full body. Now, with the spoon, you take water and sprinkle it three times around the āratī flame. Now you would offer the āratī to Gurū Dev. After which, you will take the āratī to yourself, placing your hands over the flame and then onto your head. After which, we will take flowers in our hands. If it is a mala, you will put it around his neck. If they are loose flowers, then place them on his lotus feet. Now we will make daṇḍa praṇāms by prostrating and placing our forehead on his lotus feet. Then we will rise. Then we will perform parikramā, circumambulation, while standing. Now we will ask for forgiveness. Forgiveness for everything that we have done, forgiveness for anything. We are asking him to take all our sins away from us. Now Gurudev is placing his hand on our heads, his thumb on our forehead, and giving us his blessings. Feel the energy of Gurudev flowing through his hands to our forehead. Feel that strong light, that power which he is giving us. Gurudev is blessing us, guiding us, showing us the path, enlightening the path. Now we will bring the food which we prepared for him. Place the food in front of him. Oṁ Annapūrṇāya Sadāpūrṇāya Śaṅkara Prāṇavallabha. Nava-vidyā-siddhy-arthāya bhikṣāṁ dehi ca Pārvatī. Mātā ca Pārvatī Devī, Pitā Devo Maheśvara. Bāndhavaḥ Śiva-bhaktāś ca, Svadeśo Mṛtyuñjayaḥ. Sarvaṁ Karotu Kalyāṇaṁ, Ārogyaṁ Dhana-sampadā. Śatru-buddhir vināśāyā dīpa-jyote nama-sute. Dīpa-jyoti para-brahmā dīpaṁ sarve mohanam. Dīpa-namsajate sarvaṁ sandhyā dīpaṁ sarva-satyam yam. Brahm arpanam brahma have brahma gno brahma ho tam brahme vade nantavyam brahma krama samādhinah. Pūrṇamadaḥ pūrṇamidaṁ pūrṇāt pūrṇamudacyate. Pūrṇasya pūrṇamādāya pūrṇamevāvaśiṣyate. Oṁ. Śāntiḥ, śāntiḥ, śāntiḥ. Now Gurudev is eating the food which we prepared for him with full love. In India, we serve as much as we can. Even if the person says no, you still offer more. It’s called manvar. After he finishes eating, he has left prashad for us. We will wash his hands after he finishes the food. We will greet him. He blesses us. We are thankful for everything that he has done. We are grateful that he incarnated in this world for us. We are grateful for every moment we spend with him, for every glimpse of his darśan. How he has changed our lives! We are thankful and grateful to him for choosing each and every one of us. We are grateful and thankful that we found the Guru as Viśvagurujī. We are grateful and thankful for him, for all the work which he has done around the world. We are thankful for what he has done for humanity, for the animals, for everything. May there be peace inside of us. May there be peace around us. May we all live in happiness, abundance, and peace. May we follow the path. May we not get lost in our path. And if we do, we pray to Gurudev to bring us back, to always keep us in his shelter, in his arms, for him to protect us. For him to take away all our sorrows. For him to take away all our doubts, problems, and conflicts. May happiness come in abundance to all of us. May we realize ourselves and the Guru Tattva. May we realize that the Guru and disciple are one. May we be together, may we progress together, and may his blessings always be with us. May the jyotī which is inside of our hearts just grow and grow and grow. May our love and devotion towards Him grow. May everything be okay. May our life, may our health be offered to Gurudev. May he be happy and healthy, and may his physical body be with us as long as it is. May he regain his strength. Our prayers, love, and support are the only things that can do that. As a guru, Gurudev cannot fix himself. That is going against the laws. Gurudev can fix all of us, heal all of us. But our prayers and our love are the only things that can give him the strength. Om Śānti, Śānti, Śānti.
