Devotion to Nature

The sacred environment is the foundation of all life. Spiritual knowledge is essential for real life, requiring guidance from a master who provides direction and inner happiness. All creatures and every atom in the environment sustain our existence. The environment provides nourishment, medicine, and purification. Ancient scriptures teach that divine presence exists within trees and that all life depends on planetary prana. Greed leads to cutting trees, pollution, and harm to water, soil, and creatures, which ultimately endangers humanity. Protecting the environment is a sacred duty. One must not cut trees without planting more and must avoid polluting air and water. A healthy environment ensures a healthy, happy life for all beings.

"Without spiritual life, this life is not real life."

"The motherland has enough for everyone, but not for the greedy."

Salutation to Alakhpurījī, Siddha Pīṭha Paramparā. My adoration to Viśvagurujī’s third lotus feet. Respected all the divine sannyāsīs, yogīs, all spiritual seekers and aspirants, the yoga and daily life followers, teachers, students, as well as the fellowship organizers present here in this divine place, Om Śrī Viśvadīp Gurukul, Swamī Maheshwarānandajī Ashram, Education and Research Center, Om Ashram, Jādanpālī, Rājasthān, Bhārat, and through the webcast around the world, to all the spiritual devotees, many blessings to all of you from Ālakhpurījī’s Pīṭha Paramparā, and as well from Viśvagurujī. We are all fortunate ones, blessed ones, the luckiest ones. This is our great opportunity, all of us, that we have the great paramparā and guru’s guidance. It is very, very necessary in human life that one should gain spiritual knowledge and spiritual development. Without spiritual life, this life is not real life. Be happy, be healthy, and be helpful to ourselves and to others. This is necessary, the spiritual knowledge. And for spiritual knowledge, we need the spiritual master. It is called Guru. Guru means guiding the devotees. Guru means giving good direction to the disciple. And Guru means giving happiness, inner happiness, to the disciples. And the Guru is giving knowledge to disciples to make themselves and others happy. So that is necessary for a disciple. That disciple means a life without disturbance, a healthy life, and a happy life. For that, the disciple or devotees need to think that all creatures, all planets, all environments, each and every atom on this earth, visible and invisible, all are helpful for our life. Example, let’s say my topic today is the environment. Environment is the base of our life. Environment is nourishment for our life, whether on the earth, in the sky, or in space. There are 8.4 million creatures. Everyone needs an environment. In wire, if we make an explanation of this word or this sentence in wire, it means the inside, inside the body. And "wires" means, in English we call this a wire, isn’t it? This wire. So the wires go in the body, and through the wires our body recharges through the oxygen, through the food, what we eat, what we drink, and what we are inhaling and exhaling. That is very necessary for all creatures. And this environmental knowledge, our beloved Gurudev, Vishwagurujī, was giving many, many, many lessons and many, many lectures and many, many instructions, and many, many trees or plants he planted around the world. I was listening for many, many years to Vishwagurujī’s lectures, and many, many times, Swāmījī himself, or organizations by Swāmījī and other bhaktas, held world peace summits around the world. In many, many world peace summits, they were planting the peace tree, isn’t it? The peace tree. And this peace tree is giving a lesson to humans or any creatures that the trees, this plant, or this environment, it is life for humans. So, there are many, many examples in the Bhagavad Gītā. Bhagavān Kṛṣṇa was teaching Arjuna, and he was preaching and chanting one śloka: Aśvaś ca sarva-rakṣāṇām, deva-ṛṣīṇāṁ ca Nāradaḥ, gandharvāṇāṁ Siddharāṣṭhaḥ, siddhānāṁ Kapilo Muniḥ. It means the beginning, this śloka: "Aśvaś ca sarva-rakṣāṇām." Lord Kṛṣṇa was telling to Arjuna, "O Arjuna, I am in the tree which is the people tree." And the peepal tree is there, special it is, that peepal tree, its quality is 24 hours giving oxygen. Similarly, he was mentioning, "I am in the Devas, I am Nārada, and Siddhartha in the Gandharvas, I am the Siddhartha," that one particular name, who are there dancing in heaven, people. Siddha Nāma Kapilo Muni. I am in the Siddha. Who are Siddha Yogīs? Them, I am the Kapilo Muni. So, Lord Kṛṣṇa was mentioning that, "I am also existing in the trees. Also, I live in trees." And in ancient scriptures, in Vedas, Upaniṣads, there is endless explanation given that this... Planets or environments have the prāṇa inside. If the human does not understand, then they should not eat any sabjī, any salad, any fruits, any flowers, any corns, or any grains for a whole year. They should not eat, then they will understand how helpful this environment is for humans. So I want to come back to Vishwagurujī’s endless work, or endless lectures, on the environment. In Australia, a bhakta sitting here, I think, our Sukadev Muniji, I was listening to one lecture, and Swamiji was planting some plants there. And their bhaktas were planting there many, many plants, and after this, the area had many, many... Trees and their government, given that area, a particular area named Swami Maheshwarananda Forest, and similarly in Dharanasram, here, how many trees, Swamiji, or plants, Swamiji, planted here? I remember that more than, I think, half a million plants are planted here around. And now, you see how many trees are here? It was not here 20 years ago or 25 years ago. This was all only agricultural land. Nothing was here. Only Ṭhāṇī Bhūṣis was here. Acacia and Khejri are the typical trees here, Thani Bhusis also. And cares, and what is called as some kind that is not good for the earth, that kind of tree was also here. But now you see how many trees here, Neem, Nārāyaṇa. We say in India, "Neem, Nārāyaṇa." And neem is very good for humans, for medicine and for their health. And millions or billions of bees are surviving here because the neem is here, and they are taking the juice from the neem flowers. That’s called neem honey. It’s a special honey. You cannot get it. So for human beings, or human life, surviving on the environment, on the trees, on the plants. So, my main, my own opinion and all my experience is that environment is necessary for humans, and they should take care of the environment. They should not cut trees, and the government should also prohibit cutting trees. If you cut trees where you make a home or for any companies, if you are cutting trees, then you have to plant them there. When you cut a tree, for every tree cut, you should plant two plants to grow and to maintain the environment. So, the government is helping, number one. Indian scriptures give instructions to humans to protect trees and to protect the environment. And as well, the yogīs and saints also, they give lessons, they give explanations, they give examples: please don’t cut trees, please don’t harm the environment, please don’t make pollution. This also is pollution. Not good for the environment also, for trees, trees dying, they cannot breed. And the main thing is that all these creatures survive because of the trees, because of this planet, because of this food. And now people are too greedy. They are cutting trees, they are making pollution, they are harming the environment, they are harming the crops, they are harming the water, making pollution. Everywhere there is pollution, pollution, pollution. A great wise person once said, "The motherland has enough for everyone, but not for the greedy." So, greedy ones, they are in the world; people live, they always, they always, if they do not eat, then they are spoiling. So, it is necessary for humans to please take care of the environment. Do not pollute the environment. Water is necessary for human life; more than 75% of our body is water. So, please don’t harm or pollute the water. Don’t cut trees, and don’t put so much spray where there are plants or where there are crops. So, where there are fruits or where there are medicines, please don’t put spray or chemicals or pesticides. When we put pesticide, the earth is dying, the planet is dying, the creatures are dying, the birds are dying, the bees are dying, and finally humans also will die. And similarly, this environment is giving human medicine—sorry, sorry—first, giving nourishment to survive, number one. Second, the environment is giving us medicine, doesn’t matter: Āyurvedic medicine, homeopathic medicine, or allopathic medicine. Or which they are making different, all kinds of medicine. All medicine is coming from the plants. And the yajñas, when they make yogīs, yajñas, or sādhus, or bhaktas, in yajña, many, many different, different herbs they put in the yajña. And when they put in the yajña, these herbs, they make the purification in the air. And all Gods and Goddesses, they are happy. It says, Yajña is the navel of this world. Where there is Yajña, there is life, there is Prāṇa. That one wise person also told, "Does it matter to the human how to make this world happy?" Does it matter how much science develops to make this world happy? Or, very, very... comfortable, this world? The material things, but finally, mental peace we get in the life of nature, or on the planet, or in the environment. So, environment is the life of humans and the life of all creatures. So, please, my humble request, personally, to the devotees, or bhaktas, or friends, or colleagues, or whoever they are, protectors of the environment, plants, earth, air, sky, and space, and as well, to the many, many organizers who are working. Many, many... many companies, many, many bhaktas, they are working to protect the air, to protect the earth, to protect the sky, and they should not pollute the air. And there are many, many ṛṣis; they are giving us all lessons to save the soil, the earth, and have the prāṇa inside. So please take care, and I am thankful to all who are working on the environment. There are many, many organizers, so it is very, very good that all are working. And this is helpful for all creatures and the whole world. I am very happy that we have many, many āśramas in our Guru Paramparā. In every ashram, our Vishwagurujī and our Paramparādhīśīs plant many, many plants there. And the trees are growing there, giving shade, giving oxygen, giving fruits to us and to other creatures too. So thank you very much for listening and giving me the opportunity to share my feelings with all of you. And I hope that you understand my feelings, what I am talking about, because this time, this Kali Yuga, it is very necessary to take care of the environment. As long as the environment is healthy and happy, we will be healthy and happy. If the environment is not happy, we will not be happy. So thank you very much. Once again, many, many blessings to all of you from Viśvagurujī. And now, my request: just pray to our mighty God, to the cosmic light, for our Viśvagurujī’s good health and his spiritual health. So please fold your hands. We will chant one mantra for Viśvagurujī. We will chant three times, "Om." Through the Om, we will pray to the cosmic light for Viśvagurujī’s good health. Inhale. Om. Prabhujī Mahāprabhujī Tathāsthu Śāntiḥ Śāntiḥ... Sarve bhadrāṇi paśyantu mā kaścid duḥkha bhāg bhavet. Oṁ śāntiḥ, śāntiḥ, śāntiḥ.
